Upgrade Issues From Starter To Home Premium

So i just bought a dell mini with windows 7 starter on it. I have also recently purchased a copy of windows 7 home premium or my home pc. I used the activation code from the windows 7 premium with the mini it upgraded the mini from stater to home premium, but a few days later it rejected the activation code because it is in use on my home pc. I have no issue buying the upgrade, however when i go to windows 7's site there is no option for this. I keeps seeing that i have home premium installed even though it is not activated. It gives me an option to upgrade to professional. Any thoughts?

Update Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit To 32-bit

Because of adobe not providing support for 64 bit computers, i am wondering if i am able to update my 64-bit windows 7 to a 32-bit system, and then again reversing it once again when adobe catches up? My update set came with both discs, and i'm using them on the same computer, so is this even possible or even legal?

Upgrade From Vista Home Premium 32-bit Failed Installation

I am attempting to upgrade from windows vista home premium 32-bit to windows 7 home premium 32-bit. I obtained this upgrade from a download, and my installation is failing.

At 21% of the way through the "expanding windows files" process, the installation quits with the following message:

"The upgrade was canceled. Any changes that were made to your computer during the upgrade process will not be saved. " And in a bow below that message: "setup can't continue. Your computer will now restart and your previous version of windows will be restored. "

No reason is given for the cancellation of the upgrade. I have, however, run the windows upgrade advisor, which has shown that my computer is fully compatible. All programs that it advised me to remove have been removed. I've also removed all external devices from my computer during the installation.

I fear i may have a corrupted installation file of some kind but am not sure of anything. I'd appreciate if anyone has any suggestions, or has been in this situation before and or knows what to do.

Will I Need To Upgrade All Of My Existing Software To A 64-bit Version, If I Use 64 Bit Win 7 ?

I am ready to purchase a new desktop computer with windows 7, but i am a little confused about the 32 vs. 64 bit decision. I understand technically what the difference is, but i am not sure what the impact on my software will be. At present all i have is 32 bit software running on both my desktop and laptop, some of which is quite old but still needed and very functional. I can't afford to replace all of my software, some of which have no counterpart in 64 bit. My new laptop is running 32 bit vista (less than 1 year old). Will i need to upgrade all of my existing software to a 64 bit version if i get the 64 bit version of win 7 or will i be able to use my old software with the new os? I also plan to upgrade to a new version of office. What impact will that have if i go to a 64 bit version? What about compatibility with my laptop and the existing 32 bit office on it?

64-bit Vista To 64-bit Win 7 Upgrade Fails

64 bit win vista to 64 bit win 7 upgrade fails at transferring programs , files and settings. I'm am trying to upgrade from vista home premium to 7 home premium. I've followed all instructions and kept getting hung up at the transferring programs, files and settings stage. I have turned off my anti-virus and disabled startup items and 'hid' services.

The cursor froze and it sat for 6 hours with no activity. I then tried a clean install in which i backed up and booted from the dvd. Once again i got to the last stage (completing installation. ) And once again my cursor froze up with no cpu activity. I waited 3 hours to no avail.could this be a corrupt pre-ordered dvd? If so, who can i contact to remedy this situation?

Roll Back 64-bit To 32-bit Or Upgrade To Professional

Roll back of 64 bit to 32 bit or better solution such as upgrade to professional? Recently i purchased an hp g72 260us which has one of the new i3-core processors, 4 gb ram, etc. After over 6-7 hours or trouble shooting, over 17 uninstall/re-install of software under different configurations i believe i have discovered the problem to be an update that occurred to my windows 7 operating system from 32 bit to 64 bit. While i have tried to roll back the updates, it has been to no avail so i am looking for a way to resolve either multiple software issues that are rendering my broadcasting, production, and internet usage impossible.

If i upgrade to professional, will it resolve my issues with my sprint novatel ovation u720 usb modem. Which by the way since the update, drivers will not load allowing the computer/os to recognize the device at all. Or is there a way to roll back to the 32 bit version without limitations to the performance. I am not gaming which is what i understand the major value/benefit of the 64 bit upgrade. Or suggestion to resolving these conflicts and others such as with adobe audition and other similar programs.

64-bit Win 7 Upgrade From 32-bit Vista

I just went through a thorough effort to upgrade my desktop at home from vista 32-bit to 7 64-bit. Windows 7 upgrade advisor says the hardware is fine. I downloaded the home premium windows 7 upgrade from microscoft and paid for it. I figured out how to do a custom install and make a bootable dvd from the download. However, during installation i was expecting to be asked whether i wanted 32 bit or 64 bit. I tried several different things including booting from dvd. I got a 32-bit install and i cannot figure out how to get a 64-bit install. The product specifically says it includes both versions. How do i set the install to be 64 bit?

Redo Upgrade With 64-bit Version From 32-bit

I just recently upgraded from xp to windows 7 a couple of days ago. And i must say i love it however, because i was so excited about upgrading i actually put in the 32bit version disk. So my question would be can i redo my upgrade with the 64bit version disk. I'm assuming it would be a custom clean install and don't mind reinstalling certain programs ( it is well worth it ).

Convert 32-bit To 64-bit Version Using Same Upgrade

I am currently using xp on my desktop and want to convert to 64bit win7. However, my tax returns were done on this computer over the past several years and the 32bit tax software used to prepare these returns probably will not work on the 64bit os, if i install the 64bit version now i will lose access to my older tax data. Can i install win7 32bit version via a clean install with the upgrade version, now and later, convert this win7 os to the win7 64bit version using the same upgrade version?

How do i upgrade my windows 7 ultimate to 64-bits. Would i lose my files? Or requires me to reinstall microsoft office or other programs? I had a vista ultimate and i brought an oem windows 7 ultimate. I have successfully installed it without any loss of data or program. How To Upgrade From Win 7 32-bit To 64-bit?

Last year, i upgraded windows vista 32-bit to windows 7 32-bit. I recently found out that i need windows 7 64-bit. I ran the windows upgrade compatibility program, which reported that i had no hardware issues preventing such an upgrade. I placed the windows upgrade (64-bit) dvd in my drive and restarted, then struck a key when prompted to boot from the dvd. Windows components load from the dvd, presents the pale blue windows 7 default desktop. And then nothing. It just freezes there. I can see my mouse pointer, but no keystroke or mouse button does anything.

It just sits there for hours, not installing or functioning in any practical fashion. So i went to microsoft.com and downloaded the windows 7 (64-bit) upgrade. When i run the .exe file, it unpacks the software over a few minutes, then complains that "we are unable to create or save new files in the folder in which this application was downloaded. Please check the folder properties to make sure that you have security permission on the folder to write files and that the folder is not read-only. " I went to the folder it was downloaded to and examined the properties, then un-checked the box that identified it as "read-only".

It prompted me as administrator to authorize the change, then displayed a progress bar to show how it was changing permissions in that folder and every folder in it. But after i hit "okay" and re-checked that folder's permissions, it still reported as "read only" and the downloaded windows 7 (64-bit) continues to refuse to run.

Can I Upgrade To 64-bit From 32-bit Using Same License?

If i buy a retail dvd with both 32-bit & 64-bit versions of win 7 (professional, ultimate, or whatever), with a single license for a single computer, and then install the 32-bit on my computer. If i later want to uninstall it and install the 64-bit instead (say, i got more ram later), will i be able to use the same license (for the same computer, only with more ram)?

Home 64-bit Compatibility Issues

I have a hp dv6-1355dx and i have been having issues running programs on windows 7 home 64-bit and don't like it. First of all i have a windows 95/98/xp/vista games called "star trek armada", "star trek armada ii demo", "star wars galactic battle grounds - saga edition", and i also have a game production programe called 'game maker 7". With the star trek games they install ok but when i try to play them they say i don't have enough virtual memory, they both need a minimum of 256mb and a recommended amount of 1gb, and according to my computer i have 8gb virtual memory.

With the star wars game the graphics are messed up but the computers graphics card is more then enough to support it because my computer call support 1080p 3d graphics and the game is not hd or 3d. The "game maker 7" program keeps on reverting to the free lite version from the paid for pro version, but it does not do this on my windows 7 home 32-bit htpc i also have it on, and it also is not showing some of the programs tap tiles, but they are shown on the htpc, so would you know what could be the problem, i know it it something to do with the 64-bit part of the os, but i don't know if it is just that or not. I have also contacted hp and yoyo games (game maker 7), and am waiting to here from them. I would appreciate it if you could at least help me trouble shoot the problem.

Home Premium 64-bit Virtual Pc

I was noticing that virtual pc 2007 is available on the list of student downloads, but there isn't a version that will run on windows 7 64-bit that i can find a link too, which kind of makes me sad since it would solve a lot of the issues im currently having with a c+ class i'm taking, teacher is making us use borland 5. 02 which i cant seem to get to work in windows 7, at least not completely, but anyway i spent most of yesterday and today repartitioning my hard drive and installing vista 32 bit on another section of my drive, but now i have to switch between them since all my visual studio 2008 projects are on my windows 7 partition. If a version of virtual pc 2007 exists for windows 7 home premium 64 bit then please let me know.

Win 7 Home 64-bit Ram Issues

Firstly, pc spec etcmobo = gigabyte ga-n650sli-ds4 http://www.Gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?Pid=2514#ovram = corsair xms2 6400c5c 1. 8v ver 5. 1 (currently at 2*2gb sticks)graphics card = nvidia geforce 260 gtx "approx" total memory 2671 mb (as read from dxdiag)cpu = intel core 2 quad @ 2. 40hz(4 cpus)

The issue im having is im trying to upgrade to 8gb or ram on the above mentioned ram sticks but when ever i go above 2 sticks and enter the realms of >4gb ram windows gets as far as the "starting windows" screen and thats it, it wont even play the little animation. The usual hold-down-power for 4 secs to get a power down goes to a single push at this point (unsure if thats relevant).

I have 4 slots and i have tried all the sticks in all the slots (its been a long night). This is all on the back of a new install after something went horribly wrong in the msconfig interface and my machine was stuck in a loop asking if i wanted to repair windows or start normally both would just reboot the machine back to those options.

In the msconfig interface i have unticked the maxi mum memory (an it support told me to tick it and set it to 0 which is how i got the above issue)regarding bios. My bios can see i have 6gb running when i have the 3 sticks in, not even got to 4 sticks yet. But it just seems windows doesn't wanna play ball. Iv never ungraded my bios before as all the warnings signs tell me not to unless its really really needed. I really hope someone can help with this as iv ran out of things to try.

Reinstall Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I have a legitimate copy of win 7 home premium 64 bit from an oem dvd installation, with registered product key. I installed such some months back. I understand that with this oem copy that it was good for use only once. My situation is this: my hard drive is on the verge of going south even as i write this. Is there any chance that microsoft could do something to help me do a re-install, i am in my late 60's and have only a modest disability income.

Home Premium 64-bit Install Issue

I just bought win 7 to upgrade from vista. I also bought a couple new hard drives. I installed the hdds and set them up with raid 0. Loaded the driver so that windows would recognize my array, and it still wouldn't install. I figured this might be because technically the driver is for vista. So i deleted the array and went back to just having 2 hdds. Started installing win 7 and after the computer reboots once or twice the computer goes to a white screen and stays there. I had previously tried installing an oem version of win 7 and it was doing this.

I thought it was because i didn't have the opk software package. Clearly not the case. Any ideas? I haven't tried re-installing vista yet, but before i left for work this morning i started installing ubuntu on my old hard drive and there were no issues.

Program Files In Home Premium 64-bit Edition

In my recently purchased dell studio 1550 laptop "windows 7 home premium 64-bit edition" is preinstalled by dell. It has intel core 2 duo processor t6600 (2. 20 ghz // 800 fsb // 2mb cache).

Now in os (c:) there are two programs folders, first is "program files" & second is "program files (x86)". I made a search in google for this and came to know that "program files" is associated with 64-bit programs & "program files (x86)" is associated with 32-bit programs.

Before purchasing this system i thought that this system will only run only those programs which are 64-bit & also w7 hp compatible. But now my query is that whether i install any w7 hp compatible program (either 32-bit or 64-bit) to my system?

Win 7 64-bit Doesn't Distinguish Between Ie8 64-bit And Ie8 32-bit

Windows 7 64bit doesn't distinguish between ie8 64 bit and ie8 32 bit when attempting to set a default browser using the control panel default programs 'associate' utility. My new windows 7 64 bit pc (luv that i7 920 intel cpu) came installed with both ie8-64 bit and ie8-32 bit (nothing more need be said regarding the absurdity of having to deal with this in the first place - i should have gone with the imac).

Anyway, ie64 bit lacks the flash player cuz adobe hasn't released a 64 bit version yet, per their website. So i can't use ie64 with xm online music stream (et al). Ie32, on the other hand, supports flash player, but won't successfully link to various embedded hypertext links, such as those embedded in an email. My initial solution was to use firefox, which served me well until an application from a local vendor will only work with internet explorer. Sigh.

I've used windows since version 2 back in the 1980s, have become stoic, and can emotionally cope with having to use 3 browsers to get the job done.

However, just for fun, my current burning question is, with two different versions of ie8 (64 bit and 32 bit) installed into windows 7, why doesn't the control panel default applications utility seem to aware of the fact that there are indeed two different versions installed? It lists firefox and internet explorer, but does not differentiate between the two flavors of ie. My goal was to set ie8 64 bit as the default browser temporarily to accommodate the vendor's application.

Fyi, by setting the default, i refer to: control panel | default programs | associate a file type or protocol with a program. Then scroll down to 'http' and click on the change program button. So in my case, firefox and only one instance of internet explorer, with no bit distinction, display as selection options.

Xp Mode Is 64-bit Or 32-bit In Win 7 64-bit

I am planning on purchasing win 7 pro & installing the 64-bit version. I intend to make use of the "xp mode" feature if i can install 32-bit printer drivers within the xp mode, as my photo printers have no 64-bit drivers. I currently edit my photography on a win xp pro 64-bit pc, which is networked to a win xp pro 32-bitpc in order to print images. I need to know if "xp mode" is 32-bit - even when installed with the 64-bit version of win 7 pro. I want to be able to convert/edit my photos in win 7 64-bit, then print these images using "xp mode" via the 32-bit driversi intend to installin xp mode- all from the same pc. Is this do-able?

Ati Radeon Sapphire 5770 - Win 7 64-bit Asks For 32-bit Drivers

I have windows 7 64 bit. I recently changed my video card for an ati radeon sapphire 5770. I had an nvidia before that stopped working. I installed the lastest drivers from ati for win7 64 bit (version 10. 5) after uninstalling those from nvidia. Everything seems to be working fine, but windows keep telling me that there's no drivers installed for my card, even tho i can access the catalyst control center. When i click on the link that windows provide, it always lead to the 32 bit version of win 7. Is it a known problem? Is there something i can do to correct that?

Multi-boot System Win 7 64-bit & Vista 32-bit On One Hard Drive

Multi-boot system windows 7 (64-bit) & vista (32-bit) on one hard drive - do i need two hard drives?I have an existing windows vista ultimate (32-bit) system installed on a 500gb sata hard drive, partitioned into 2 partitions (c: and d:). I would like to make the system multi-boot so that i can back-track to vista if i have a problem with win7.

One issue here is that i plan on multi-booting vista 32-bit and win7 64-bit on the same hard drive without touching the d: partition of the hard drive. I don't know if this is possible, but i'm interested to see if it is.

I've done some research and have found that win7 has many compatibility modes, so maybe i don't need to worry about keeping an installation of vista on my system? I just don't want to be "caught with my pants down" if something were to go wrong with win7, like if one of my programs was incompatible or something along those lines.

If i can't multi-boot vista 32-bit and win7 64-bit from the same hard drive, can i do it with 2 hard drives having one os on each hard drive? Or, am i being much too paranoid about this and should i trust microsoft on this one that win7 will not have any large compatibility issues with my most used programs?

For reference, here are some of my most used programs: firefox 3. 5, steam, adobe photoshop (versions 7. 0 and cs3), ie tester (for web development), winamp, trillian (an im and irc program), itunes, skype, mozilla thunderbird (for e-mail), and fraps (in-game video recording software).

I know that this is a lot all at once, but does anyone see any foreseen compatibility issues with any of these programs and win7 64-bit ? I'm also worried about the compatibility of some of my drivers with win7 64-bit, but i've heard that there have been leaps and bounds made with driver compatibility on win7 64-bit (as compared to the mess it was with xp 64-bit). Is this true?
