Network Printer Shows As Offline When Its Online

Network printer shows as offline when it's online at its locally connected computer. Printer is laserjet 4000 attached through a usb port. Printer driver is hp universal printing pcl 5 (v5. 1).computer which has printer connected locally is windows 7 professional 32 bit.computer which has printer showing as offline is windows 7 professional 64 bit. Fter acquiring and implementing 64-bit printer driver everything works well for about 24 hours, then printer shows as offline. Trouble shooting says set printer to default printer - no change in status. Unlike vista, there doesn't appear to be any way to set the printer status as online.

Online Printer Not Recognized As Online

I recently upgraded to windows 7 professional from vista business. After upgrade, i was able to access a wireless hp c4380 series multi function printer thru my lan. Now for some reason, i can not longer print to this printer. When i run the troubleshooter, it tells me the printer is off line and to turn on the printer.

I have turned it off and back on and it still shows up as offline, both in the troubleshooter and in the control panel device window. I have not made any other changes to the computer or installed any new hardware or software. It just stopped working one morning.

I checked the router via my admin access and all devices are visible to the router. So why is the printer not visible as online to windows 7, all of a sudden. As i said, it worked for weeks, now it is invisible.

Always Available Offline Not Available For Network Folders

I have a netgear stora nas. All is well with my network access to the device, but windows 7 will not index any of the folders. Right clicking on the folder does not give me the "always available offline" option. All help topics say that i need to have the folders available offline in order to do the indexing.

After Remote Login, Network Printers Go Offline

In windows vista, whenever i would remote login to my home pc, my default printer (which happened to be a network shared printer off my server) would clear its default setting. That was annoying but easily fixable. I've since upgraded to windows 7 ultimate and i'm having a related problem. Now whenever i login remotely to my home pc, my default printer (same network shared printer - hp lj 4000) goes offline, and it only comes back online after a reboot.

This is a huge pain point for me because i typically have 20+ windows/applications running at any given time and a reboot takes 30 minutes out of my day to get me back to where i was.

Printer Offline

New laptop with windows 7 - initially no issues with pairing to wireless internet and printer hp photosmart premium c309g-m until i bought home work laptop also with windows 7. Needed to use wireless printer and to connect temporarily to internet this system forced me to setup network group (not being completely sure what i was doing but thought i was doing no harm).

Thats when the problems started, this disabled our home laptop computer which before this was wirelessly connected to the printer and internet it stopped printing or connecting to internet even after joining the network group (for home computer with correct pass words etc) many many hours waisted, eventually got connection back to internet by restoring to a previous date.

I then deleted the  network groups, the printer shows as default in devices and printers but when fails to print saying it is offline, i have tried deleting printer and searching for bluetooth from both laptop and from the printer end a well (none detected).

Oki Laser Printer Offline Error

I'm using windows 7 64bit edition and an oki c5150n laser printer and have downloaded the latest drivers from the website. It always says the printer is offline, and when i uncheck the "use printer offline" mode, anytime i try and print it gives an error, which troubleshoot "fixes" by turning the printer to offline mode and the file i sent to print still does nothing. I have checked the cords, rebooted the printer and computer, as well as using "remove device". Any ideas would be appreciated

Dell Printer Goes Offline After Shut Down / Restart

I have a netgear 802. 11g wireless router with an hp 6840 printer & a dell mfp 1600n printer attached via ethernet cables. My various macintosh, windows xp and vista computers have been printing to these printers via wireless connections without problems for the last several years.

I got a new lenovo t410 notebook, with windows 7, in january 2010. I can install both remote printers on this system, and then print to them via the wireless router. However, when i shut-down or restart the t410, the 1600n printer shows up as "offline". I must then "remove" this printer, and re-install it (via "add printer") on the t410. It seems to lack "persistence" across a system restart with the windows 7 system. The hp printer works fine, showing "ready" status after a restart. Both printers work fineafter shut-downs and restarts on the mac, xp and vista systems. I use a static ip address for the 1600n, and have the latest windows 7 driver from dell.

One other piece of data: during the "add printer" process, the hp printer is automatically discovered, i select it, and then add it. The dell printer is not discovered, and i have to add it as a tcp/ip address, "generic device", of type "dell network printer", then specifically "dell mfp laser 1600n". Any ideas would be appreciated - lenovo and delltech support refuse to help troubleshoot- both say it is a microsoft problem.

Printer Doesn't Print, But Job Shows Up In Spooler

The printer doesn't print, but job shows up in spooler when printing by network (lpr) - unless i restart the spooler! Same problem here. My epson d120 does have a compatible win7 driver and prints nicely via the same router configured in winxp (or 7, resp. ) Identically. In win7, no go. That is, unless i restart the spooler service/daemon under computer-manage-services manually. But not every time. When it restarts & will print correctly, epson's status window will pop up und inform about the progress.

I'm getting tired of the spooler restarting - please fix this (it works in xp)!?

Further details: win 7 rc (build 7100), updated printer drivers by clicking windows update button (added loads more, took ages). This btw also added another option under printer ports : customized/user defined (i'm using the german version, don't know the equivalent name in english). This wasn't present before the windows update procedure. It also exists in xp, though. Finding the printer via discovery of the port doesn't work - probably a upnp issue.

Will definitely not buy (though i think it's a great system/os) until this is fixed for good. Or is it, that your company doesn't like fully functional rc versions out there that users will eventually hack to get a freeby?

Don't get upset about the latter suggestion - it was just inspired by what other software vendors have been doing in the past. Not a good sort of behavior, if it ever leaks to the media/community.

Canon Mf4370dn Laser Printer Keeps Showing Up As "offline"

I just bought a new canon mf4370dn laser printer and followed the instructions that came with the printer for setting it up to print via the network. The printer printed the test page, but keeps showing up as "offline" and i can't print anything at all. I have a toshiba laptop that has windows 7 on it (not sure if that's relevant).

I have very little knowledge of how networks work or how to set such things up properly, but i followed the instructions in the 'starter guide' that came with the printer. The printer is plugged in and turned on, however keeps showing up as "offline" when i look at the printer queue.

Network Printer

Trying to set up a network printer and having problems. Printer is hp photosmart c5200 hooked up to pc running windows 7. It works fine on that computer. I have a laptop running windows vista that i would like to get to share the printer. Laptop is obviously wireless. Did have the same set up working on a pc running windows xp with no problems. I have the sharing tabs set on both pc and a homegroup set up on pc ( workgroup on laptop ).

Can access pc from laptop, but when i go to discover printer it is not showing up. Can access pc and navigate to folder showing printer. Have tried to manually add printer to laptop, but will not print. Did notice that laptop and pc are in different workgroups in laptop network set up, but can't figure out how to delete one and put them in same workgroup. Any help is appreciated

Network Printer Not Working

I'm having trouble getting windows 7 pro (64 bit) talking to a network printer. The printer (samsung clp660) is connected directly to the network (via ethernet cable). I have downloaded the correct drivers from the samsung website which just happens to be the same for all versions of windows and after running the setup and using the samsung software to setup the printer as a network printer, which sees the printer on the network and appears to install perfectly.

However, this is where the problem starts. First the printer was showing as 'offline' so i disabled snmp on the tcp/ip port that this printer was using which fixed the 'offline' problem. When i try to print a test page it does not print giving an error in the print queue. When i run the troubleshooting wizard it says that windows is not communicating with printer and is unable to rectify the problem. I have also successfully managed to ping the printer from the offending windows 7 workstation.

I have successfully installed the same network printer on 2 other xp pro workstations using the same setup package.

Printing On Network Printer

I upgraded 2 desktop pcs from vista to win 7. Each pc has its own printer directly attached. Prior to upgrading, both pcs could print to either printer. After upgrading, one pc can print to both but the other can print only the printer directly attached however, the printer on the other machine is visible when checking devices on the network. I have gone through checking network names, sharing, reinstalling drivers, deleting and reinstalling the printer with no success. I've even attempted to establish a "home group" but am unable to do so. Any suggestions?

Network Printer Cannot Connect

Its for my homegroup network with both computers running windows 7 (pc is on 64bit and laptop is on 32bot). I can print from the pc where the printer (epson) is connected via usb but i can't print from my laptop through the network. The homegroup works fine enough, i can access files through it. I thought originally it was pharos that was upsetting the computer (installed very very poorly and finally days later managed to get every sign of it off the laptop) - but now i get the printer being found but it won't connect!

I've been though a couple of other threads but none of it seems to work. The file and printer sharing has always been connected (as my brother from his xp computer can print to my printer) and the firewall lets it through. Is there any other way? The permissions are set to print for everyone so its not that either. Does anyone know how i can get my laptop access to print?

Printer Not Printing Over Network

I saw a question similar to mine but not quite the same issue. My main desktop is running win7 pro and my laptops and other desktop are running win xp pro. I have set up a work network not a home network, per instructions from a friend in it. All other computers can see the printer and print jobs get spooled to the main computer. The jobs arrive but do not print. Just to clarify, i can print just fine from the main computer. I know there is a tutorial on here for this issue, but the graphics are no longer present, so it's rather difficult to check what the settings should be.

Network Printer Not Recognized

I am running windows 7 pro on a laptop connected to a network server utilizing windows 2000 server. When i try to add a network printer on the server to the laptop, the printer shows up in the add a printer wizard, but when selected, the process ends with an error message that the printer port is unknown. Incidentally, i can access the network printer if i access it on the laptop as a shared printer on another machine connected to the server running xp, but not directly off the server as i want to. Any help in getting the printer port recognized?

Error - 0x00000866 - Cannot Use Network Printer

An hp printer in our home is connected to a w95 laptop and shared to the homegroup. Other laptops, mostly xp, use this printer by wireless network. A new windows 7 laptop can not "persistently" use this printer. (Error 0x00000866) adding it as a local printer, selecting the correctly listed network location (serverprinter_name) as a port, allows printing until the computer is rebooted. After the reboot the print jobs just go onto the printer queue because the printer is described as "offline". There seems to be no way to put the printer "online". Is there any way to add the printer so that it can be used after rebooting?

Network Printer Wakeup Problem

I have a windows 7 laptop wi-fi'ed to my windows 7 desktop, both recently upgraded from vista. The printer on the desktop is network-shared. On the desktop, under power options, sleep, "allow wake timers" is enabled. Printing from the laptop under vista could occur whether the desktop was awake or asleep. Now, under w7, printing occurs only when the desktop is awake. On the desktop, under printer properties, "sharing" tab, it reads: " the printer will not be available when the computer sleeps.

To change these settings, use the network and sharing center. " However, i can find no option there to allow waking the desktop on a print request from the laptop. How can i cause the desktop to awake on a laptop print request?
