Using 2 Mice With Dual Monitors Setup

Is it possible to use 2 mice when dual monitors is setup? 2 mice with 2 cursors*premise:my partner and i have a home theater pc in the making with 2 monitors set up. We use one monitor for basic computing -web browsing, word processing, etc. The other we use for media and video streaming.

Problem: we both want to utilize the varied functions at the same, but constantly run into "sharing the mouse". We've tried setting up hot button keys on our iphones with mixed results. Solution:i think the problem would be solved simply by being able to install two mice on our system, each having its own cursor, but i cannot find a "software" solution. Question:is there anything i can do to windows 7 that will allow me to achieve two separate mice, each with its own cursor?

Dual Monitors Malfunction

Dual monitors, whilst using dual monitors i could not maximize the windows as shown in the task pan when i hover the cursor on it. I disconnected one monitor and the problem disappeared. I disconnected the other monitor and again the problem disappeared. I switched connection between the sockets ( i.e. Monitor to plug b and vice versa) and the problem disappeared. Any ideas how to restore to dual monitor viewing?

Dual Monitors, Trying To Get Them To Work

Me and my friend are attempting to connect two monitors to his desktop, and we have the computer connected properly, but the monitor is not receiving any kind of signal from the computer (it won't turn on, just has a black screen or says in power saver mode). The main monitor works (obviously, since l am posting this) and it connects to the nvida dvi card (a installed video card), and the second monitor is a vga. The second monitor we want to hook up we want to use on the old video card that came with the computer, and we have the ports for it.

However we cannot get it to work, and it is quite frustrating. We have tried to update the software, but we believe he may have disabled the second video card without meaning to, and we need to know several things at this point:

1. Can we use dual monitors from two different computers and use them to do different things (i.e. Use it to surf two different websites with two different keyboards/mouses, or play two different games (our intention is to play wow off the computer) in this manner)?

1a. If so, can someone please link to a site that would be easier to read and understand? (We have been to a few already posted but they are confusing or just say the same things and aren't working).
2. How would we re-enable the video card should it be turned off? Again, simple steps please.

3. Can we use the two separate video cards to run the two different items on the computer, or would they both be forced to run off the one video card?

3a. If so, is there anyone who can explain how to link one monitor to one video card and not the other?

Dual Monitors - Black Bands On One

Dual monitors, black bands on one and the other monitor is fine using nvidia scaling, i recently upgraded from vista to windows 7 x64 via a clean install. I have dual monitors that i use on a daily basis. Both of them are wide-screen format. I prefer to use 1280x1024 which is far under the native resolution of both monitors because the icons and texts are bigger and easier to read. With vista, i didn't have a problem but hopefully someone can help.

I use a geforce 8800 and i downloaded the nvidia drivers so i can access the control panel to customize. With the first monitor, it gives me options under "adjust desktop size and position" and i selected "use nvidia scaling" and everything is back to normal. However, when i click on the second display that i would like to change, instead of providing those options, it gives me an option to move the screen up down left or right.

I thought that my selecting the nvidia scaling it would go in effect for both monitors, however it only shows it for one so i figured i have to manually do it for both. The other one is 1280x1024 with black bands on the side and it is frustrating trying to troubleshoot this. Can anyone provide a solution?

Dual Monitors Problem In Win 7

I have a dell laptop. I plugged in an acer al2223w monitor by vga cord. I went to screen resolution to setup dual-screens, and the acer monitor is identified, but it is the only monitor i see. It does not show 2 screens. The acer monitor is indicating that it has no signal. When i click "detect monitor" nothing happens. It is as if i have only the acer monitor on the system, even though the acer screen is not working? Please help if you have any information. Shouldn't the laptop screen also be showing in the screen resolution setup?

Problem With Dual Monitors In Win 7

I have two lcd monitors connected to an nvidia 8800 gtx graphics card. One lcd monitor is an older and smaller 22" samsung syncmaster 225bw. The other one is a brand new 24" s2409w dell lcd monitor. I obviously want the newer dell to be the primary monitor, and extend my desktop to the samsung. However, no matter how many different ways i connect/disconnect/reconnect the two monitors, windows 7 always assigns the older samsung as the primary display.

I went into display properties and clicked in the check box to make the dell the main display, and that seems to have "kind of" worked. For the most part, the dell is being used as the main display, but is still labeled as display 2. So, when i went to start windows media center, it comes up on my samsung monitor, which is my secondary(extended) monitor. My guess is, it does that because my samsung monitor is still labeled as display 1. So, i have two questions:

 1) how does windows 7 decide which monitor is display 1 and display 2? (You would think it would be by the order in which the display is connected/installed, but that is not the case).
 2) is there a way to force whoich monitor is display 1 (or 2)?

Screensaver Inactive Across Dual Monitors

In using dual monitors - one dvi and one vga - i cannot get the screen saver to show across both monitors using windows 7 (although this was possible in xp).

In xp, you could use dual/two monitors - one dvi and one vga - and they will both screen save; however, windows 7 will not (similar to vista). I recently installed an evaluation copy from a dvd on a dell 745 with a dvi card at work, and on a hp with vista at home, and they're both doing the same thing: the dvi will screen save but the vga will not. You can have the same machine running xp with dual monitors - one vga and one dvi - and when the screen saver clicks in xp, it the screen saver is active across both monitors but vista nor windows 7 will screen save across both monitors.

Dual Monitors - System Sees Only One

I just bought a brand new system, which has windows 7 (home premium) pre-installed. I've connected two (2) identical monitors (nec lcd72v) to a "y" connector. Both monitors display cloned screen, but it's only seeing a single monitor, not both so i can't "extend" to the second monitor. I've even tried hooking up one nec and one scepter, but get the same result. Both monitors show the same screen, but the system just will not detect the second monitor on which to "extend".

The "y"connector i'm using is a "gigaware 2 port usb-powered vga splitter" which claims to allow one to connect two (2) displays to one computer (such as a monitor, projector or tv). Note: all of the "help" refers to how to use the drop down to select the second monitor, so please be aware that the drop-down shows only the single monitor. I've tried disconnecting one monitor and re-booted. Adding the second back on as soon as the system was up. It still won't see the second device.

Dual Monitors Mouse Pointer Problem

Windows 7.nvidia geoforce 8500 gt. I have the latest nvidia drivers and control panel. I have two monitors; 1 on left, 2 on right. I have no trouble setting them up, but the indicated physical position on the computer is reversed; ie monitor 2 is on left, monitor 1 is on right. The problem is that i want the mouse pointer to move to the right to get from from 1 to 2. As it is.

If i am on monitor 1 (physically on left) i have to move my pointer to the left to get on the right monitor (monitor 2). This is opposite of what logic calls for. I have jiggled my cables every way i can think of, to no avail.

Random Screen Blackouts When Using Dual Monitors

Recently got dell inspiron 580 with nvidia geforce 310 graphics card. When i hook up dell monitor (1600x900) to vga output, no problems. When i hook up second monitor (1280x1024) to dvi port using dvi-vga adapter, i get randomly occurring black screens, especially after playing a few minutes of flash video on a web page. Once the screens are black, the only thing i can do is force power-off and reboot.

Where do i start to diagnose what is happening? All i can find is the event viewer, which doesn't have any critical or error events except that an unexpected reboot occurred. Is there some way i can start logging or run drivers in debug, anything like that? I'd like to get some more information other than "the screens are black", because right now i don't know who i should be talking to about this problem; dell, microsoft, or nvidia.

Dual Monitors Not Working With Laptop Screen

I use dual monitors at work with my laptop using a docking station (2 free standing monitors); no problem with this at work. At home, i have 1 monitor and use my laptop screen as the 2nd monitor. It works, but then stops working whenever i shutdown my computer (the laptop screen is blank when i restart my computer). I was able to get it working again once by plugging in the monitor while the laptop was working. Now, i can't even get my laptop screen to work. I'm using a dell e6400. Thanks.

Dual Monitors With Multiple Productivity Issues

I have been in the it industry for several years. I am what people call a triple threat as i use windows, unix, and mac operating systems. For years now i have used dual monitors and have enjoyed it under all three operating systems. I loved windows and nvidia especially as there was a mode called span where the operating system would treat multiple monitors as though they were in fact one.

This allowed me several productivity gains like viewing videos across multiple monitors by saying full screen, editing images across both monitors, wallpapers that span across the entire display etc. There were hundreds of uses for this and i'd like to see an option soon that would allow me to span an application across multiple monitors.

I love the new snap feature you have given to window handling in windows 7 but again with dual monitors there is no way to snap to the middle divider. This is troublesome as i have to snap windows to the opposite end of my screens (40"+) in order to quickly compare folder list. This is also troublesome when using my laptop with an external display as i cannot snap to both sides of either the laptop or the external monitor. You can see what a loss this is when trying to compare folders quickly as outlined in your videos. I would love for you to add snaps to the middle of multiple monitors, this would save me a ton of time.

When stretching videos, images, applications across multiple screens in an effort to manually span an application the user experience degrades quite a lot. Under xp (nvidia span), linux, and mac spanning an application caused no degradation of speed or ui problems but under windows 7 it does. I would like to think this is because of my video card but alas i use the same card under linux and mac with no problems. I would not mind not having a span mode if i could fake it by stretching the application across the monitors, but the speed decreases so much that any productivity gain i would have made is wasted in loss of productivity.

Please allow to utilize multiple monitors without speed problems or having the ui of apps missing buttons. Please. Pretty please allow me to snap to my monitors middle edge. Please, please allow me watch videos in full screen instead of only on one monitor, and please with sugar on top allow me use wallpapers that will span my entire landscape instead of displaying the same image twice.

Dialogs Don't Appear On Old App With Dual Monitors

I've just started having a minor difficulty with my old photoshop 7 on windows 7: several of the dialogs no longer appear on screen (e.g. , The size of the image to save 1-12, lightness/darkness, and one or two others); "important" ones - like what to name the file, some add-ins & adjustments - show up just fine. It has not previously had a problem on the win7 system, so i don't presume that it is a problem with an incompatible old photoshop or necessarily with win7.

Have just added a second lg 23" dvi lcd monitor to win7 system, which is the only thing that has changed about the system since before this problem has arisen. Previously, i'd had one of the same monitor on dvi together with an older, analog flat-screen on vga as the secondary. Now, the new, second lg monitor is also on dvi, but unlike the original one, does not register on display properties as being "(digital). "I have tried switching which monitor (primary or secondary) that i display ps7 on, with no change; i have also swapped which of the monitors is primary & secondary, and also switched which ps7 displays on.

None of these combinations results in the dialog boxes showing up. The only other potential problem that i can think of at the moment is that i've added a new dvi cable that is different from the original one. The new cable is a "dual channel" (?) Dvi that has pins for all of the slots in the dvi connector, rather than only for about half of them (a "single channel?").

If anyone's familiar with what fry's electronics sells, these are $39. 95 and $29. 95 cables, respectively, the newer one by hp, the other a monster cable as i recall (like an idiot, i've thrown out the package). I'm going to mix this setup around a little bit and will post what effect, if any, changing cables and/or using only one monitor might have on this problem, but if anyone has a "fix" for it - maybe two "single channel" cables?

Windows Wont Allow Same Resolution On Dual Identical Monitors

Using nvidia geforce 250 card with dual envision monitors. Latest nvidia drivers for windows 7 64 bit. Monitor 1 shows as 'generic pnp monitor', while monitor 2 shows as 'generic non-pnp monitor'.

I can add a resolution to monitor 2 via nvidia software, but when selected, windows reverts to previous resolution. Monitor 1 sets fine at 1680 x 1050 x 60hz, while monitor 2 only goes to 1600 x 1024 x 60. The monitors are identical. This was not a problem in xp, both monitors ( and windows ) happy at 1680 x 1050 x 60hz. Any ideas? Can i disable the windows resolution setting program so that only the nvidia has control?

Media Center In Dual Monitor / Tv Setup

I'm trying to setup a htpc using windows 7. What i'd like to accomplish is to have a dual monitor/tv setup where wmc is running on one monitor and xbmxc is running on the other. However it doesn't seem like i able to run both programs at the same time, each on it's own monitor/tv. Whenever i change to full screen mode, one of them goes blank. Is there something in windows 7 that prevents me from running two directx programs in fullscreen mode at the same time?

The pc i'm using is configured with two ati graphics card connected to the tv using hdmi.

Xp On Separate Drive To Win 7, Setup Dual Boot

This is my first time on the forum and even though i know a little about computers i could certainly use some advice & assistance here. Presently i have xp pro installed on a 500gb drive(which is partitioned) and i have a 750gb drive that i will be installing windows 7 pro(which again is partitioned)onto. My question is thus: how can i make a dual boot with xp & w7.

These are my specs: drive "c" has xp installed with a partition("d"). Then i have a separate disk with drive "e" which is empty with a partition("f")also empty. Then i have "g" & "h" as my 2 dvd/cd burners. Lastly i have an an external wd my book essential which is drive "j" and the smartware is showing as drive "i". Soin 'my computer' there are drives c, d, e, f, g, h, i &j. I am running a gigabyte ep45t-extreme m/b with 4gb of 1333mhz ddr3 corsairram, performance is by the intel core2duoe8500
Chip(3. 16ghz).

I do not want to have both xp & w7 on the same disk, rather on 2 separate drives. Since i have xp pro already installed as "c" drive how can i make "e"the other os for dual boot. Remember that "e" is on a separate drive. I did have it set up as a dual boot before but my little tacker played his game and things went haywire, so therefor me & all my wisdom decided that i could get it back to normal and yep, you guessed it, i absolutely stuffed it up even more.

Can somebody be so kind and inform me as to how i can make my system a dual-boot once again ?. If you can then i will be eternally grateful. I look forward to hearing from you.

Media Center Dual Monitor Multi Seat Setup

I am trying to configure my media center pc to work with two monitors, one is my tv, the other is a standard pc monitor. In this way i am hoping to use media center on the tv and surf and play on the other screen at the same time. I have encountered two problems. 1. Media center will not let me select a different sound card from default. Some applications including i believe windows media player will let you do this. 2. Media center when made full screen captures the mouse and keyboard. I hope i can get around this with a media center remote to control the tv while i use the mouse and keyboard on the other screen.

I can take back control with the windows key, but i have to give back control to use media center. Hopefully with the remote i can control media center while keeping control of the keyboard and mouse. I am reading this may or may not work. Ideally i would hope that microsoft could address these issues, as they seem rather trivial and would enable our over powered multi-core pc's to be more useful, its a waste for all that power just to watch tv. I have been assured on multiple forums that microsoft does not care and will do nothing to fix this.

This is an unfortunate sentiment to have in the community and i challenge microsoft to prove them wrong. Seeing as i have had great luck reporting issues to apple and having them fixed within a reasonable time, i thought i might give it a shot with microsoft and see if i had any luck. Is this the best way to contact microsoft about these issues? Are there other contacts i can try? I would love to be able to select a playback device in media center other then the default as well as being able to control media center with the remote while maintaining separate keyboard control. Please make this happen microsoft and prove your customers wrong, that you do care.

Snap Feature Does Not Work On Inside Of Dual Monitor Setup

I have windows 7 home premium x64 fully updated. So far it's great. But i have two monitors, primary 1440x900 and secondary 1280x1024 with the secondary monitor on the right of the primary monitor. When i try to "snap" a window to the edge of either monitor that is next to the other monitor, nothing happens. I was wondering if this was a typical problem people were having or if it was just me and if there was any way to make it work or if there was a patch for it. (Google chrome's built-in "snap" feature can use the inside of the monitors).

Cannot Move Windows From One Monitor To Other - Dual Monitor Setup

I have two monitors of the same resolution connected to an ati radeon hd 4300/4500 video card. In windows 7 extended mode i see a full working desktop on one monitor, but only the background picture on the other - the four-square flag motif again a blue background with wispy lines, butterfly etc.

No taskbar, icons or anything else. On one occasion briefly the mouse cursor appeared on it instead of on the full desktop image. If i try to drag a window on to the second monitor it won't go there. The settings are landscape with two mointors "1" and "2". I have two images but how can i use the second one?

Showing Many Keyboards And Mice

I'm having trouble with my keyboard and mouse. I have a logitech g15 keyboard and a microsoft x8 mouse. The problem started when my keyboard was randomly typing and mouse randomly clicking (or not able to click). I checked the control panel, and it listed 1) g15 gaming keyboard, 2) hid keyboard device, 3) hid keyboard device, 4) x8 mouse, 5) hid-compliant mouse, 6) hid-compliant mouse. I delete them from the device manager, but they keep popping up. Why does windows keep recognizing that i have 3 keyboards and 3 mice plugged in, when i only have 1 of each?

Toggle Between Monitors

I used to be able to use pf7 on my sony to toggle between monitors on xp. Now i have win 7 and a brand new samsung lcd monitor and after installation the new software that came with it, the only monitor my laptop recognizes is the samsung. In the 'hardware and sound'view devices and printers"the only monitor the laptop has registered is the samsung and not the laptop, however, the only screen that is usable is the laptop and not the samsung.

The laptop screen is no longer listed in the drop down menu. How can i fix it so that i can toggle between the 2. ? I've tried uninstalling the software that came with the samsung. The other problem is that the image size on my laptop is now about 75% of the screen size and there is nothing obvious about how i can make the image larger. .

Win 7 And Triple Monitors

I am running windows 7 64 bit release candidate. With a dual monitor nvidia (pcie) 9800gtx+ card and an nvidia (pci) 9500gt card, i have had nothing but grief in trying to get win7 to recognize the cards. Downloading the windows 7 drivers from the nvidia site did not help. Upon installing the drivers, the machine blue screens and does a full memory dump before rebooting.

After reboot, it uses standard vga drivers. Both video cards' drivers are not used and are reported as having a problem in the device manager. Uninstalling one video card does not help. Uninstalling all drivers and reinstalling them does the same-  blue screen/ memory dump. The machine has a gigabyte motherboard with 4 gig of corsair memory and an intel q6600 processor. The same setup is being used on windows xp on another hard drive. It is running three monitors with no problems at all. The drivers downloaded is a whql-certified driver. The version is 186. 18

Media Center And Two Monitors

Current setup: using two monitors on my laptop (built-in and external display). Running windows 7 professional 64-bit

Problem: i watch movies/netflix/media center on my external display. When watching movies, my laptop screen just displays whatever was left on it for the entire time.

Solution? Without having to close my laptop, is there a way to make the un-used screen turn off while watching a movie? Either some sort of plugin/application, or maybe a setting in windows or media center? I've just been letting it stay on for now, but i don't want my laptop screen to get burned in.

Windows Does Not Turn Off Monitors

I have a weird problem when windows will all of the sudden stop turning off monitors after 10 min of inactivity (or whatever is set in the power plan settings). What is weird about it is that it happens only once in a while, sometimes after 3-5 hours of normally doing so, sometimes from a reboot. However, once windows stopped turning off monitors only reboot can generally help. Generally, because sometimes i need two reboots for it to work.

It happened with a different motherboard, with both of my monitors, with integrated graphics and with two separate graphics cards. I do not use wireless mouse. I tried closing all possible programs but with no results. Minimal boot is not really a way of troubleshooting, because 'turning off monitors' usually works after reboot.

Please help, it is really annoying to come home and see that your monitors are illuminating the whole neighborhood.

Separate Settings For Two Monitors

I have a laptop computer with its built-in lcd display. I have added an external monitor, also an lcd unit, through the vga port on the laptop. In windows 7, with the screen resolution -> multiple displays set to "duplicate these displays" ((i.e. , The same thing shows on both the internal and external displays), is it possible to have each monitor set up separately in terms of the display model, resolution, etc. ?

If not, only one monitor can be optimized at a time, either the laptop lcd or the external monitor. I realize that i can adjust these settings for each monitor as long as the multiple displays setting is "extend these displays. " When i have this field set to "duplicate these displays, " the display value is locked on "1/2. Multiple monitors, " with no way to adjust the two displays individually.

Cannot Expand Window Across Monitors

I process large spreadsheets and have configured my system with 4 monitors. Under xp and vista, i could expand my spreadsheets across all monitors so i could view very large records without having to scroll left or right. But with windows 7, everytime i expand across screen boundaries the window resizes to fit into only one of my monitors. (Note: this happens with all windows, not just excel. )I've disabled aerosnap under the ease of use features for mouse, keyboard and tasks, but it did not solve this problem. So my question:  how do i configure windows 7 to allow me to expand across screen boundaries?
