How To Upgrade Drivers?

I have been using win7 for the past few weeks and it was great! The only thing i didn't like about it that it didn't have aero in it. I did the windows experience index and it was 1. 0 :(. I checked out the "troubleshoot transparency and other aero effects" thing, and it said this: "video card driver does not support aero. " How do i update my 'video card'? The win7 os is on my desktop computer. I had to format win xp and install win7.

Oh, also, heres a few details of the pc:
Os: windows 7 ultimate
Ram: 512 mb
Processor: intel® pentium® 4 cpu 1. 60ghz
Video card:? How do i find the v. C. ?

Sony Win 7 Upgrade Disc Did Not Come With Drivers

I received a sony windows 7 upgrade disc in mail, but it did not come with the companion disc for the drivers. Where can i order or download the missing companion disc. I sent in my laptop to sony to have windows 7 installed. Ive waited 3 weeks and still haven't gotten it back, and the technician is saying he does not have the companion disc available to install.

Ive talked to other technical support and apparently none of them carry the companion disc. Ive also placed another order with sony for the windows 7 upgrade, and again received the windows 7 without the companion disc.

Will Win 7 Upgrade Reinstall Dell Wireless 1397 Wlan Mini Card Drivers?

Will windows 7 upgrade reinstall the drivers for my dell wireless 1397 wlan mini card that came with my dell studio laptop? I purchased a dell studio laptop in oct. And have received a windows 7 upgrade disk with dell's upgrade assistant disk which they have you run first. This disk checks your computer to make sure all your programs etc are compatible with windows 7. The results of this scan were that it needed to delete the wireless card drivers and googletoolbar.

I have set up a home wireless network and do not want to lose my connection. I called dell technical support and was told that the upgrade disk would install the proper wireless card drivers and i would not lose my wireless connection. I would like to make sure before i do this. If dell support gave me incorrect information, what do i need to do to make sure that my wireless card continue to function after upgrading to w7?

Upgrade Hangs At "setup Is Loading Drivers"

Upgrade hangs at "setup is loading drivers", then issues automatic login failure message. I received a copy of win7 ultimate at a ms roll-out show yesterday. I am using this to upgrade my vista ultimate machine so that i don't have to reinstall all of my software.

The upgrade proceeded through a few reboots, until it reached the point in install where it appeared to be transferring registry entries for installed applications. This required two reboots, the second a little over 60% of the way through the app step.

After this last reboot, the machine (thinkpad w500) hung on a screen with the text "setup is loading drivers". After a few minutes a message box appeared that indicated that the automatic logon failed. All i could do was press ok, which presented a black screen with a mouse pointer and nothing else. After a few more minutes the machine automatically rebooted from this screen. Then the above hang-up sequence repeated itself.

Following the advice in this link didn't help:

Windows 7 dies during installation

I used the safe mode menu to turn on logging, but could not see the log, because i could never get windows to start. Finally after bringing up the safe mode menu one more time, i selected debugging mode. Unfortunately this time i got a screen saying the "upgrade was unsuccessful. Your previous version windows is being restored. "

This successfully restored my vista ultimate, but i would like to know what i can do to ensure a successful upgrade from vista ultimate to win7 ultimate before i retry this. Does anyone have any ideas?

Upgrade As Clean Install Using Upgrade Media Using One Hard Drive

I need help with planning my upgrade to windows 7 from windows xp pro. Can i do this upgrade as a clean install using upgrade media if i've only got one hard drive? I'm currently running 32-bit windows xp professional and want to upgrade to 64-bit windows 7 professional.

My laptop only has one hard drive on it, so installing "fresh" to a separate hd isn't possible. Since i already back up all my data to an external hd, i'd like to just format the internal hd and install windows 7 onto that. Will that be possible though using upgrade media? How does it verify my existing xp pro license?

How To Upgrade Hard Drive At Same Time I Upgrade To Win 7?

How should i upgrade my hard drive at the same time i upgrade to windows 7? I plan to upgrade my laptop from win xp pro to win 7 pro and want to at the same time upgrade my hard drive. I don't know what i should do to ensure that the win 7 install program recognizes the prior win xp installation.
Would it work to put the old (win xp) drive in an external enclosure connected via usb? Alternatively, what would i need to copy from the old hard drive to the new in order to have the win 7 install recognizes win xp?

Cannot Upgrade From Vista Home As Straight Upgrade

Just obtain windows 7 professional and it states it is an upgrade for windows vista. When i start the upgrade the program states that because i have vista home i cannot do a straight upgrade. The box does not say so. Installing the windows 7 professional as an upgrade i find i cannot do it from windows vista home as a straight upgrade. It must be a full clean installation. The documentation does not say so.

Updating Drivers

I ran vista 64 on this custom pc for 2 years and upgraded to win 7. I had it running well for about a month until i started getting lots of updates for drivers, like atapi, 1394, atk 0110 etc. Installing these "updates" over time began to give me lock ups and bsods. I sort of just took windows word for it and installed these drivers, knowing full well that windows has tried to give me the wrong drivers in the past (gpu, monitor, sound card to name a few).

Im on my 6th install of win 7 so ive decided to update all drivers manually in the future. Im pretty familiar with updating drivers for devices like the gpu, mobo (nforce), monitor, mouse, sound card etc but im unsure about updating several other devices. These devices have windows generic drivers dating back to 2006 and include :

Acpi x64
Wdc scsi disk device
Ide ata/atapi controllers (ata 0, 1, pci ide generic)
1394 bus controller
Usb's

It should be noted that ive been sent windows updates for atapi, atk 0110, ehci (usb updates), 1394
My board is an asus striker ii extreme. From their website i can get the drivers for :jmicron(raid controller), nforce (though its outdated), onboard audio and atk 0110 and install them on top of the generic drivers. But that leaves me with quite a few other drivers missing. Atapi, ehci, 1394. Where would i get these?

Blocked Drivers

I got a new hp 610 laptop with windows 7 home basic operating system. On installing the "total protection" it gave me an error saying that a driver. Had been blocked by the operating system and disabled. It is not giving me an indication as to which driver it is.

It must be something to do with the firewall because i cannot get it to switch on. I have total protection running on my pc and previously on my other laptop but they were running on xp pro.
Have you had something like this before?

Re Download Drivers

When i download a driver and try to expand/install it and it says down load error - down load again, which i download again but because the driver was downloaded before it does not actually download again, but shows in a split second that the driver has downloaded as (1). When i click the new downloaded driver it shows the same download error message. This is because the download begins from where the download stopped and not from the starting again, showing the same file from the hard disk.
Please tell me how to delete the cache file and re-download a fresh driver.

All Drivers For Win7

I own a lenovo laptop and recently upgraded to windows 7 ultimate version (x32), but i lack a lot of drivers now. Lenovo service center denied to give any specific help as they don't guarantee driver availability for windows 7 ultimate version, but only for home/basic editions. So i am rendered helpless.

I am getting errors in drivers of bluetooth, chipset, touchpad, camera etc mainly. Can anybody please guide me where i can get all the compatible basic drivers needed in my laptop? Considering me a layman about technology, please keep it simple and specific.

Hp Drivers Vs Win 7

My employer bought a new dell laptop with windows 7. We have an hp laserjet 3030 plc6 on a machine running xp pro, and, an hp laserjet 4050 plc6 on another machine running xp pro. I connected the windows 7 machine via local network to the xp pro machines. I installed and can use the 4050 printer with no problems. However, i tried to install the 3030 on to the new laptop, and it tells me that no suitable driver was found. I downloaded both plc5 and plc6 universal drivers from hp, for windows 7. Still will not work.

Prior to that, i tried connecting the 3030 directly to the laptop via usb, and it works fine!
Why can't the laptop find the driver, which was installed within windows 7 from the beginning, when i am using it as a shared device on another machine?

Ati Drivers Conflict

I upgraded from xp x32 to windows 7 x64. I performed a clean install of xp and immediately installed win7. After the first reboot in the setup the image on my monitor became garbled just after windows loaded. First, i restarted into safe mode but got a message that the installation was not complete and could only be completed in normal mode. I found that after windows loaded i could type my user name and press enter repeatedly to complete the installation although i still couldn't see what was happening.

After the installation completed i went into safe mode which gave me a clear picture. If i disabled the display adapter in safe mode i could boot into normal mode with a clear picture, but windows 7 would then install drivers which caused the image to become corrupted upon reboot. During one boot into normal mode the device manager gave me a code 19 for my video card:"windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged.

I've tried 2 clean installs, 3 driver versions, and a different monitor. The other monitor just gives a black screen where my main monitor gives a garbled image. I've used driver sweeper and the control panel to uninstall the video drivers, and i've installed new drivers from downloaded .exe's and by letting windows find them. This computer was working perfectly fine one day ago with windows 7 rc x64.

Keyboard Drivers Becoming Disabled

Keyboard *drivers* becoming 'disabled' (1st usb, then ps/2); show "!" In hw-lst, but win-diags find nothing wrong. This is a most peculiar problem. First my usb kbd driver went dead. At first i didn't notice it, as i was using the mouse, primarily, for input, but remember a hw-rejected sound from windows earlier upon logging in.

My keyboard wouldn't do anything. No led toggles - etc, but on another machine, fine, and on same machine 'fine' - until windows comes up, then kbd goes dead (once bios drivers are no longer driving kbd, likely).

Under keyboards, the hid keyboard driver showed a small yellow triangle with an ! In it.

After trying  reinstalling the driver (its the stock ms driver), upgrading it (no upgrades), repair ("nothing can be found wrong, maybe the driver is corrupt", but file kbd_hid.sys, checks out w/valid ms sig), i decide to hook up a ps/2 keyboard. It worked for all of maybe 20 seconds. Then a low hw reject message as win7 disconnected my ps/2 kbd! Unbelievable! Now both my hid kbd driver and the 'standard ps/2 keyboard driver show up with the yellow triangle with a "!" In it. But i can't figure out what's doing wrong with the.

I also tried system restore to day before any of this happened - no go. I figured going back further would be a waste, since the start of the problem was rather clearly defined.

I *thought* i had caused it when i tried to enter a sw policy restriction to forbid 'wisptis.exe' from executing - (the onscreen digital ink input dealy) - for two reasons - it kept getting in the way and i couldn't figure out how to get it to turn off (i wanted to use my tablet's native drivers, but wisptis was interfering and making the tablet good for nothing but digital ink (handwriting recognition as keyboard input)).

The final straw came when i was looking through my logs and found the security log (~20mb log) mostly full with security failures from wisptis.exe (i turned on monitoring of security failures, only, thinking that failures, should be rare in properly acting sw, and this software was clearly violating win7's own security policy!).

It was after i added the policy that the usb keyboard went dead.

But that policy went away from the first 'backstep' (system restore point) - but the keyboard didn't come back. After that it was downhill for the ps/2 driver. So, to be clear, the policy is not in the security panel - it was back to pre-init state (no sw policies in effect) after the 1st system restore. So that 'had' to be coincidence. But it felt oddly coincidental, that the only 'keyboad' type inputs left to use on the system were the on-screen keyboard and the digital-ink keyboard. (Mouse paths/drivers are unaffected).

Using Vista Drivers With Win 7

I installed windows 7 rc and the drivers that were on the machine worked fine. However, i am hosting a windows 7 launch party and received a signature copy of windows 7 ultimate. When i tried to install the promo os i had to do a clean install which wiped out the drivers. I contacted the manufacturer (hp) who are apparently not going to provide updated drivers for my machine (which is only 2 years old) for windows 7. When i contacted their support people i was told to use the drivers for vista, but when i try to install the drivers i am told that my os is not vista and the install terminates. So, is there any way for me to fool the software into thinking i am actually running vista?

Canon Hg20 Drivers

I recently purchased a canon hg20 hi-def camcorder. It uses a hard drive to store video - as well as a flash memory card. I have 2 computers, both almost identical in hardware and both running windows 7 home premium 64-bit. When i plug the camcorder via the usb connection to one computer it's found ok and drivers are loaded successfully. It's using "disk.sys", "partmgr.sys", and "sahdad64.sys".

However, when i plug it in to my other computer it searches and searches and searches and searches and finally comes back and says it couldn't find drivers and that it failed. When i look at it in device manager the driver is "usbstor.sys". I've tried removing the driver and reinstalling but it keeps picking the same one. I've tried updating the driver and the system tells me it's already the most current and refuses to replace it.

The computer that installed correctly works fine with the camera - i can access the videos on the camcorder hard drive and copy them to my computer. The other computer, however, refuses to install the camcorder correctly and i therefore can't access the camcorder from that computer.

Any ideas on how i can get my other computer to install this camcorder drivers correctly? I thought windows 7 was supposed to handle drivers better than other versions. I'm really surprised i'm getting different results on different computers that are almost identical.

Display Drivers Stopped

Display drivers have stopped and have been recovered.nvidia driver kernal 191. 07 has stopped and have been recovered. My display drivers keep stopping then recover whilst playing call of duty modern warfare 2 and also while i play combat arms. I have recently purchased a brand new pc that runs an i7-920 6gb ram a bfg gtx 285. I have tried every version of drivers from nvidia with no solution. My previous machine ran xp and combat arms ran fine on this. My friend is also having problems with call of duty and he has an ati card so don't think its related to drivers. He also runs windows 7.

Install Missing Drivers

I recently upgraded my lenovo t61 laptop from it's original 100gb hard drive to a 500gb hard drive. After installing windows 7, updating and restarting a few times, i noticed that i was still missing 2 drivers, both called "base system device". I went to lenovos' driver web site, looked through what was offered but could not figure out what was missing. I then called lenovo directly and they said that it was a windows 7 problem, not a lenovo problem so they don't know how to deal with it.

Any assistance to resolve this issue and get me my drivers would be greatly appreciated.

Win 7 / Hp Drivers Clash

I have recently purchased an hp officejet pro 8500 wireless. That connects and prints wirelessly. Unfortunately, the drivers do not facilitate the scanning process. The printer will scan and display the scan on my monitor but will not save to my scans. I have attempted to download the hp patch, only to be given in a message that says "this update does not support any of the hp device drivers that you have on your pc. You do not need this software update" hp are suggesting that there is a clash between the windows 7 drivers and their system drivers, especially when there has been an upgrade from vista to windows 7 that might require windows 7 being uninstalled and reinstalled. Can anyone shed any light on this problem.

Is there anyway to override this and install the drivers i want to install? I am running the windows 7 rc.

Kb980232 And Sound Drivers

I'm trying to install windows 7 ultimate x64 in a desktop with some aging parts.

Asus a8v deluxe motherboard
150gb pata hard drive
2gb ddr400 corsair memory
Ati radeon x800 pro agp graphic card
Amd athlon 64 x2 4200+ processor
Creative sound blaster audigy2 zs platinum sound card

Windows 7 x64 installs smoothly until i tried to install sound drivers and update it through windows update. Whenever i try to install the driver for the creative sound card or the on-board sound device, windows would freeze right before the 4 light orbs show up at the "starting windows" screen after restarts.

The same freeze also occurs when i try to install security update for windows vista for x64-based systems (kb980232) through windows update. The freeze does not occur if i download kb980232 from download center and installed separately.

Windows 7 is installed on a clean ntfs pata hard drive. I've tried installing the creative sound card drivers both through windows update and from creative's website to no success. I've tried the windows xp 64 driver for the creative sound card, but the problem still persists. Same freeze occurs when i remove the creative card, reinstalled windows and tried to install the driver for the on-board sound device.

Nvidia 8800gt Drivers Help

I have had this graphics card for a while, and i like it very much. Never had a problem with it from xp to vista. For the first few months of win7 i never had a problem. However, ever since the windows important updates through windows update a few weeks ago my nividia card stops responding, the drivers will fix the issue, windows and my card will fight for a while and then i get the bsod nvlddmkm.sys error code.

I always update my drivers manually, so i double checked and found out there was a newer driver that came out a few days after i began having this problem. No change. I use the solution center which hardly ever works or gives good information and basically everything aside from removing my nvidia drivers i had already done before seeking help. Since then i have removed the nvidia drivers and now its hit or miss on if windows will fully load before telling me there is a kernal problem and that my video card stopped responding. If it does load i usually have about a minute to 3 minutes before i have this problem.

I uninstalled the nvidia drivers and later deleted them one at a time. With no nvidia drivers in my computer i still get nvlddmkm.sys bsod which is only present in system32(since it's using the windows version of the drivers).

I've checked the compatibility of my hardware and the only other thing i have issues with is my lachesis mouse's cursor flying to the left on rare occasion (but that only started in vista, and im not too concerned).

I've run out of ideas, and the only other thing i can think of is that one of the windows updates did state that some programs or devices may work better or worse after this update, but not like this ever happened until the more recent windows updates.

Off the top of my head i'm running:
Windows 7 ultimate
Nvidia geforce 8800gt 512
2x 2gb ddr2 1066
Intel core 2 3. 0 proc
Gigabyte mobo recommended/bundled with proc
Razer lachesis
Thermaltake 700w psu
Wd 250gb hd (boot)
Wd 1tb sata hd
Lg dual-layer dvd burner/reader w. Lightscribe

Any ideas/assistance would be greatly appreciated. But again no hardware changes since before i got vista ultimate. Within the last 3-4 months no software updates (aside from malware/spyware/windows essentials) outside of windows update important updates, and the nvidia driver.

No Device Drivers Found

I'm trying to install windows 7, and have wasted multiple discs in the process, trying different speeds, different softwares, even different types of discs. My problem is i'm getting stuck with the "no device drivers found. " I've seen a few threads but i cannot find an answer that will work.

The last thing i thought i would mention is that i'm currently on windows xp x32 and i'm wanting to go to windows 7 x64. Can this be done? Do i need to fully uninstall windows xp with the windows xp disc before even using the windows 7 disc?
