Missing Letters On Keyboard

My keyboard's letters fade away after a few weeks of use. I have alerted microsoft to this problem and they have replaced my keyboard, very promptly, twice, making this my third keyboard. I contacted microsoft and asked them what i could do. Apparently nothing! I tried painting the keys with clear nail varnish to no avail. I was hoping that perhaps microsoft could embed the letters on the keys - but so far, nothing has been done to my knowledge.microsoft have been more than helpful in every other respect. Does someone out there have a solution?

Keyboard Skips Key Letters In Ie8

I have found a problem with the internet explorer 8 and windows 7. When the last windows update took place, it caused a problem when you are typing on any search engine or msn messenger. When you are typing in any other program, ( microsoft word, etc. ) There is no problems. What happens when you type online, is the typing skips letters. I have one system with ie8 and windows xp on it and the other system that has windows 7 with ie 8.

I spent about 6 hours trying cables, keyboards and other things and finally load safari on the windows 7 system and haven't had the typing problem with it. I would like to go back to ie 8, but i can't afford to have to retype the missing letters. If you can get this fixed, then i would gladly go back to internet explorer.

Raid Hdd Was Not Assigned Drive Letters After Install

Boot manager installs on wrong hdd and raid hdd's was not assigned drive letters after install. This is first time i installed windows 7 and after updating motherboard bios and mixing the hdd boot order i find out in the end that the files windows require has been installed on my mirror raid instead of the system disk stripe raid. This annoys me a bit, do i have to plug out all my hdd's except the ones i want to install windows 7 on to ensure the booting is independent of other hdd's?

(Another annoyance was that the mirror raid did not show up under my computer, which after installing every driver known to man i found that a drive letter had not been assigned. )

Security Issue With Sharing Root Drive Letters

I use the wifi ability of my lg ally smartphone to access lan shares with estrong file explorer. When i built a new pc which runs windows 7 home premium os, i shared a couple folders and tested to make sure i can access them from my phone. What i saw was unbelievable.

According to any information i have been able to find about sharing files and folders in windows 7, it is supposed to be impossible to share a "root drive" (the entire drive content, like "c:" and all its sub-folders) in windows 7. You can share a folder, but not a whole drive. Well, estrong file explorer, running in lan access mode by wifi here, is showing me all the drive letters (i have several) of my windows pc, and their sub-folder content on the screen of the ally phone! Even my other cat5 connected pcs can only see the folders i have set for sharing on the win7 pc. I am only stopped from accessing a few folders on the win7 computer's c drive. Aside from that, i can access every drive letter and all of their folders and files, even though i do not have shared folders on most of those drives.

Of course i do not have any of the root drive letters shared because windows 7 won't even let me attempt to do that. I can't explain how this is working, but it seems like something microsoft would want to look into. I can repeat this action any time i want. I did have to create a user account for the phone to even get into the win 7 pc via wifi, but with that information the phone seems to have full access to the entire pc.

Dual Boot Works But Drive Letters Don't Match

I took a 1 tb drive and split it into 2 primary partitions. I installed xp on partition c with an image. I installed win 7 on partition d from scratch.

The dual booting works fine. However, in win 7, the drive i installed win 7 on is listed as drive c. The drive i installed the xp image on is listed as drive d. The files for each, however, are listed on the original drive letters (xp on c and win 7 on d). It really gets confusing with i install a program in win 7. It claims it's installing the program on drive c but it's actually installing it on drive d.

Any idea what happened, or how to correct this? I've set up systems to dual boot in the past and never ran into this problem.

Volume "failed" After Assigning Drive Letters

I have a 300 gb hard drive on a win 7 ultimate system, partitioned into 4 dynamic disks. I reassigned one of the drive letters yesterday with the disk management plug-in. Now the disk management plugin shows the four pieces with the relabeled piece split into two pieces and shows a fifth volume of size 300g (the entire hard drive). The fifth piece is described as "failed" and "missing". In addition, the d: drive is now as labeled as the system drive, although c: is the system drive. Reactivating the missing volume does not succeed. Suggestions, anyone?

X6 Keyboard Issue

Recently purchased above keyboard and have noticed after a coule of weeks the #7 key at top of keyboard appears to stick down. Ie hold #7 key down and will repeat at a much faster rate than the other keys, almost 3-4 times as fast. If the plastic key is removed and i use a pen to hit the sensor it works correctly. Do you think it needs to be returned under warranty or is there something which i can do? I thought the key itself might be holding the plastic cover on teh sensor down longer than normal, but its position is consistent with all the other keys. I have checked for dirt etc under keys but all clear.

Changing Keyboard

I have a laptop with a japanese keyboard. I am running an english os. I have gone to control panel. I clicked the change keyboard. I added languages so that i have both english and japanese and both languages keyboard options installed. The ime too. When i press alt and shift, the language bar does change between en and jp. The language bar also indicates that the keyboard has changed too.

However, even when the language bar says the language is japanese and that the keyboard is japanese, the pc still types as if configured for an english keyboard. I have also tried typing with the default input language set as japanese, and then tried it set as english.

Does anyone know why, despite following all the steps; despite having text services and input languages indicating that under installed services that english and japanese input devices have been added (and yes, i pressed apply); and despite having a language bar that does switch between english and japanese when alt+shift is pressed, that nothing changes and the key board still behaves as an english (us) keyboard?

Brazilian Keyboard

I just received a new computer with windows 7, and i'm trying to get a brazilian keyboard to work with it. My old computer was xp, and this same keyboard worked fine. I set up a different language for when i was using this keyboard, and it would let me use all the keys (i don't remember what was the keyboard layout that i used).

When i try and set it up with windows 7, however, there is no keyboard layout that matches my layout. The abnt and abnt2 options look the same, and both are missing two keys. My keyboard has the to the left of the z, and the / to the right of the ;. Is there some error with how windows 7 has set up one of these keyboards?

Login Using Only Keyboard

When i leave my work desk i have to lock my station, i do it very often so i would like to login faster - by using only my keyboard. Is there a combination of keys that would get me straight to the password box? When locked the monitor says "swipe your finger" (i can't use my fingerprint reader at that point because the lid is closed, i'm using external keyboard and monitor) when i try ctrl+alt+del nothing happens, esc key works by displaying user icon and the button "switch user".

I must point the user icon with the mouse to reveal the password box, there is apparently no way to change focus to that icon from the keyboard (tab doesn't work). It's annoying that i must grab my mouse every time i want to unlock the workstation.

Using Keyboard In Win 7

I'm not visually impaired, but i prefer to use the keyboard more than the mouse. I am finding win7 to be very cumbersome to use with the keyboard. I know there are tons of new logo key combinations-i think i've tried them all-but it is still very difficult for me to move around explorer using the keyboard. Seems like everything takes 2 or 3 more keystrokes than it did when i used xp. How are other "keyboarders" or even visually impaired users coping with win 7? Any ideas on working more efficiently with the keyboard?

The @ Key On Keyboard

I have just bought and started using a netbook. I've got windows 7 running and have installed office 2007 professional. The keyboard layout is qwerty. When i use the number 2 key to add the @ symbol to what i am writing, i get speech-marks (") and visa versa with the speech-marks key i get an @.
The number 3 key give a pound (£) symbol instead of the hash. I have been to the control panel to check the region and the keyboard settings, but it all looks normal. Is there a way of changing these keys to they way they are printed on the keyboard?

No Keyboard Input Available

There is a user who started having problems this morning. The machine is 1 week old, loaded with windows 7 ultimate 64bit. The keyboard is dead, the only thing i'm able to do is turn the f-lock on and off nothing else responds. I tried plugging in another usb keyboard and then a ps-2 keyboard and neither work. When i was finally able to use the on screen keyboard to login i found in device manager there was an error 19 for the keyboard saying that driver information in the registry had become corrupt so the device couldn't be started.

So i look that up and find that deleting the upperfilter in the registry was suggested. So i deleted the upperfilter and rebooted and still no keyboard. I can use the keyboard in the bios and to select safe mode or normal mode but once windows starts the keyboard is dead. I've also noticed that everytime i reboot along with the usb keyboard and mouse a ps-2 keyboard and mouse is installed in the device manager with exclamation marks. I've restored to earlier times when everything worked and still no keyboard. Any ideas?

Missing Drive

Ok, i'm not computer smart, so i'll try to make this as simple as i can put it. Whenever i insert a dvd or cd into my laptop, nothing happens. I try to look for it on my computer and the drive isn't listed. I've also gone through various forums telling others to go into the registry and locate the upper filter or lower filter and i couldn't even find those. How do i fix my drive? Step by step procedures would be greatly appreciated.

Missing Memory

Where is my missing 1gb of ram? I have just purchased an acer asipre r3610 4gb ram with windows 7 home premium 64 bit os. I have read on the web that on a 64 bit os i should get the full 4gb of ram is this correct? Msinfo32 advises me i have installed physical memory (ram) 4gb but then says total physical memory is 3gb. I have spent numerous hours reading the web looking for answers.

My bios correctly reports i have 4096 mb of ram. Msconfig "advanced options" the "maximum memory" is unticked. After checking in resource monitor, i found that 1025mb of ram was "hardware or bios reserved". My inbuilt video card nvidia ion (latest drivers 195. 62), nvidia graphics utility tells me it has 256mb dedicated video memory, 64 mb system memory and 1215 mb shared memory.

I can only assume that this 1025mb ram that is "hardware or bios reserved" is part of the 1215 mb that my graphics card reports is being shared. How can i stop my graphics card from reserving 1025mb ram. Is this something to do with my bios or the way windows 7 handles/assigns memory?

I have read on the web that on a 64 bit os i should get the full 4gb of ram is this correct? I also believe that http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/display/graphicsmemory. Mspx says that turning it off shared mvideo memory in the bios doesnt disable the windows feature. Is this correct?

My Printer Is Missing

Windows 7, x64, 8gb ram. Fresh install, i installed an hp laserjet 6p printer, connected via an add-in parallel port card. Everything worked fine. Today, it's missing. I tried to reinstall and got an error message that says the name is in use. I gave the new instance a different name, finished the wizard, and printed a test page successfully. But still, in devices and printers, no old hp printer, no new hp printer. The parallel port shows in device manager as working correctly.

Googling around showed a similar problem that occurred in xp, but no reports yet in windows 7. Anyone got any good ideas? Where would a find a list of known printers behind the pretty gui?

Missing Drives

When i open "computer " it only shows my c, d, e & f drives, e & f are my2 dvd drives. I installed win 7 in my self built computer and after i installed win 7 it did not show my card reader drives as vista did. I have actually had to do a complete (format hd) install for a 2nd time.

For whatever reason it never has shown my g, h, i, j, k card reader drives in " computer", it looks like they are not installed yet if you put in a compact flash card or an sd card or any media it takes you can download pictures or whatever is on the cf, sd or what might be on the card you put in to be read with no problem? The usb port on the card reader works fine also, so the card reader is functioning ok.

Now: if you go to device manager & look under disk drives you see this. So they are all there.

Disk drives
Generic " compact flash usb device
 Ms/ms pro usb device
 Sd/mmc usb device
Sm/xd "picture usb device
Hp photosmart 8200 usb device
Maxtor  stm3500  ata device

Then: if you look under portable drives you see  all the card drives;

G: h: i: j: k:

Why in computer" doesn't it show the card reader drives as it did in vista?

Missing Cd Drives

So ever since i installed the rc in july, my cd and dvd drives not shown up on the my computer window, however it keeps poping up a 3. 5in floppy drive which i don't have nor do i even have the cable for one hooked up to the mb.

I have gone through the device manager and updated the drivers, the device manager shows that i have both cd and dvd drives hooked up to the mb. I have been able to successfully install programs off the cd drives only as long as they have an auto run feature. Problem now is since there is no icons for the drives so i cant explore any cd or dvd, and any dvd or cd not having an auto run feature cant open, i don't even get the notification window that a disk has been inserted into the drive. I haven't been able to successfully find any 64-bit drivers on the manufactures webpage for the drives. Anyone know how to fix this or whats going on?

Missing Codec

I am using a software program to analyze subject behavior. It works by opening and playing a video file within the program that can document when defined behaviors are observed based on preassigned categories. I can get the video file to play within the program on my pc at work (windows xp) but cannot get it to do the same on my laptop (windows 7). I the following message invalid media type. (Id 12768)video file e:project videos hl65hl65 07 07 10 h145. Mpg cannot be displayed, the media type is not recognized.

Make sure you selected a valid video file and also have the correct codec installed. Is there a way to find which codec is working with the video file on the xp and download it on my windows 7 laptop?

Bootmgr Missing

I'm getting the bootmgr missing error upon startup. The pc in question is the family computer and is only 2 months old, but was experiencing severe slowdown from corrupted files, in order to solve this, my brother tried to reinstall windows 7, but simply added another version of the os. So upon startup, we had to choose which windows 7 we wanted. I restored the computer to factory settings using the startup disks that came with it, and now i am getting the bootmgr error.

I changed the boot settings to run the install disk first, and attempted to repair windows 7 with that, but it tells me it cannot be automatically repaired. And when i click on the "repair my computer" the box from which i should select the operating system to repair is empty.

Missing Toolbar

Running vista sp1& ie8 normal startup of hotmail in ie8 shows a window with several toolbars at the top. One of these bars contains the new tabs, ie history and several tools icons such as print, page, safety, tools, etc. Within the last day this toolbar is missing only when a hotmail window is opened. The original ie8 home window is normal with all expected toolbars available. On the hotmail window i have right clicked on the available barand selected "customize / add or remove commands" and see that the missing icons are selected. I have searched theforums and found a similar item (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962963). This did not fix my problem. Any advice?

Favorites Missing

Over the last 2-3 weeks all the links within ie8 favorites have disappeared. In fact when first clicking on favorites the following error message appears:

"Location is not available - c:users*name*musicfavoritesfavorites refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be in a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the internet on your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been move to a different location"

Subsequent clicking on favorites within ie8 then just comes up completely blank. I can find all the links within a favorites folder in the music folder location. I don't know why the favorites have been moved and how to rectify this. Any advice would be appreciated.

The problem is on a laptop running windows vista home premium service pack 2.

Ntldr Is Missing

I have a pc with win 7 ultimate on it and my cat stood on my keyboard and froze the screen (not a clue what he pressed) i restarted the computer and it cam up with an option to start windows normally or repair files. I chose to start windows normally and it came up with the windows logo as if it was starting but wouldn't get past that screen. So i restarted my pc and chose to repair. I tried all the options there and nothing worked.

I restarted my pc again and this time it said ntldr is missing press ctrl+alt+del to restart. I have checked on the net and tried some of the solutions i found there such as disable quick boot (which i can't find anywhere in the bios) any help would be greatly appreciated.

When i press ctrl+alt+del it does exactly the same thing and i tried pressing f8 when it is starting up and nothing happened. Btw i got the pc from a friend and he used to run vista with xp and another drive, don't know if it's still on there and i don't know how to check. I don't know how to set which hard drive the pc boots from so if anyone can tell me i could try that and see if it works.

Keyboard Drivers Becoming Disabled

Keyboard *drivers* becoming 'disabled' (1st usb, then ps/2); show "!" In hw-lst, but win-diags find nothing wrong. This is a most peculiar problem. First my usb kbd driver went dead. At first i didn't notice it, as i was using the mouse, primarily, for input, but remember a hw-rejected sound from windows earlier upon logging in.

My keyboard wouldn't do anything. No led toggles - etc, but on another machine, fine, and on same machine 'fine' - until windows comes up, then kbd goes dead (once bios drivers are no longer driving kbd, likely).

Under keyboards, the hid keyboard driver showed a small yellow triangle with an ! In it.

After trying  reinstalling the driver (its the stock ms driver), upgrading it (no upgrades), repair ("nothing can be found wrong, maybe the driver is corrupt", but file kbd_hid.sys, checks out w/valid ms sig), i decide to hook up a ps/2 keyboard. It worked for all of maybe 20 seconds. Then a low hw reject message as win7 disconnected my ps/2 kbd! Unbelievable! Now both my hid kbd driver and the 'standard ps/2 keyboard driver show up with the yellow triangle with a "!" In it. But i can't figure out what's doing wrong with the.

I also tried system restore to day before any of this happened - no go. I figured going back further would be a waste, since the start of the problem was rather clearly defined.

I *thought* i had caused it when i tried to enter a sw policy restriction to forbid 'wisptis.exe' from executing - (the onscreen digital ink input dealy) - for two reasons - it kept getting in the way and i couldn't figure out how to get it to turn off (i wanted to use my tablet's native drivers, but wisptis was interfering and making the tablet good for nothing but digital ink (handwriting recognition as keyboard input)).

The final straw came when i was looking through my logs and found the security log (~20mb log) mostly full with security failures from wisptis.exe (i turned on monitoring of security failures, only, thinking that failures, should be rare in properly acting sw, and this software was clearly violating win7's own security policy!).

It was after i added the policy that the usb keyboard went dead.

But that policy went away from the first 'backstep' (system restore point) - but the keyboard didn't come back. After that it was downhill for the ps/2 driver. So, to be clear, the policy is not in the security panel - it was back to pre-init state (no sw policies in effect) after the 1st system restore. So that 'had' to be coincidence. But it felt oddly coincidental, that the only 'keyboad' type inputs left to use on the system were the on-screen keyboard and the digital-ink keyboard. (Mouse paths/drivers are unaffected).

Keyboard Performing Shortcuts

Why is my keyboard performing shortcuts i don't want and don't mean to type? I have a new dell inspiron laptop (my old computer with windows xp was also a dell laptop). When i am typing, especially when i'm typing an email or anywhere else online (in firefox), i am unintentionally closing windows and tabs, opening up history and bookmarks sidebars, accidentally sending emails, opening up windows explorer windows. It's all from the keyboard - i am accidentally entering in shortcuts somehow, i guess? I have no idea. This was not a problem on my old computer.

I am a fast typer, but this is annoying the _ out of me. Is this a setting i can turn off? Is it windows 7, or firefox, or my keyboard? Of course i use the common computer shortcuts (copy, cut, paste, etc. ) And don't want to completely turn off keyboard shortcuts, but i am not purposely entering in shortcuts, they just keep happening. All the time. What is the deal?

Keyboard & Mousepad Conflict

I have recently installed windows 7 pro (64-bit) over my last os - windows 7 ultimate candidate (32-bit). Before hand, i had no problems with my keyboard and mouse-pad. Now, i can't move my mouse while i press a key on the keyboard (letters, space bar, numbers, etc). The mouse pointer just stays in place while a key is pressed, and even after i let go it takes a second for the mouse to move again. This is especially annoying when i'm trying to use keyboard shortcuts on photoshop.
I am not using any new programs.
