Install 64-bit With 2gb Of Ram

I have a vista home premium that passes the install test except i only have 2gb of ram. What happens if i install windows 7 using the 64-bit version? If i do this, can i add ram later? Will it let me install the 64-bit with 2gb of ram?

64-bit Win 7 Ram Compatibility - 2gb Only 1.87 Gb Usable

I'm now using windows 7 32-bit, but my programs require an upgrade to windows 64-bit version. I have used windows 7 upgrade advisor to check if my computer can install a 64-bit version. Then i received a report that said my ram is not compatible. I install 2gb of ram but only 1. 87 gb are usable, so the report said i wouldn't be able to install a 64-bit version of windows. It require a whole 2gb of ram. I now wonder to know that can i install that 64-bit version?

Bsod When More Than 2gb Of Ram Installed

Customer brought in a toshiba portege m800 laptop. Problem it is having is that on a clean install of windows 7 pro 64bit, it will bsod with 0x7e, 0x0a, or 0x1e when there is more than 2gb of memory installed. It boots perfectly fine with 2gb or less.

Motherboard, processor, hard drive, and memory have been replaced. I've tried using different brands of memory, different speeds all with the same problem. All memory that has been used has passed every test thrown at it. The bios reports the correct amount of memory installed no matter how much is installed. The computer can handle up to 8gb of memory.

I know vista had a similar problem, but i was not able to find a hotfix for windows 7 and of course the vista hotfix will not install on 7. Any ideas on solving this problem?

Ram Upgrade Problem From 512x4 (2gb) To 2x2 (4gb)

Ram. I upgraded from 512mbx4 (2gb) to 2gbx2 (4gb) when i run the 4gb by it self it boots up fine but i went to add back in 2 of the 512mb chips it will not boot up to windows. The computer sees the ram fine but windows come up with widows damaged repair files or boot up normally when i say normal it reboots and comes up to the same window.

When i remove the two 512mb chips it boots up fine again. Is windows 7 compatible with 5gb ram? Why do i get an error from windows and not my bios? They are all ddr2 chips but  the 2 512 are at 533mhz and the 2gb chips are at 1066mhz. Can i buy 4 more giabytes of the 2gig chips for a total of 8gb and it will work?

Update i bought 4 gig more of the same ram still wouldn't work must be time for a new motherboard! Dell support now sucks won't tell me how much ram my computer will take and if you want to call and ask it's like $50. 00.

Win 7 64-bit Ram Is Gone

Upgraded from windows vista 32 bit version to windows 7 64 bit version, hoping for the improved performance by being able to use all my ram in the 64 bit version, my 4 gigs of ram previously being limited to 3. 3 due to the inherent nature of 32 bit os's. I formatted the system drive as directed so i could put in a fresh 64 bit install on the system. After all was up and set, i hit the desktop and checked my ram, it was reading 2 gigs.

Upon further investigation it is now showing 2 gigs of ram in bios as well, but here's the sticker. It's detecting both dimm 2 gig sticks, just only half of each stick! Did windows 7 quietly flash my bios? I can't fix this issue no matter what settings i try, and post is quite insistent i only have 2 gigs now. I tried changing each stick individually and with each one only in the system, both each read 1 gig alone, they were 2 gig sticks before windows 7!

Motherboard: evga nforce 780 sli
Ram: 2 gig  patriot dimm 800hrz ramx2

Not Showing All Ram In Win 7 32-bit

I have just built from the ground up a new system with 4 gb ram. I have installed win 7 32 bit. The bios shows 4g, but windows only recognizes 2. 4 gb. I have verified the following (stolen from other forums): bios. You can check with your bios manufacturer, about how to enable the maximum memory.

Check the advanced boot options.
1. Go to start, in the search bar type msconfig and press enter.
2.system configuration window will open on the screen.
3. Click on tab named "boot".
4. Click on "advanced options" and uncheck the box for "maximum memory".

I have verified the max memory is unchecked, and found it unchecked.

For the record, i have the following hardware:
Msi nf980-g65 mobo
4gb ocz ddr3 pc1600 (2x2g)
2 nvidia 7800 gt (256 mb) in sli

Win 7 X86 32-bit Only Recognises 3 Of 4 Gb Ram

Windows 7 x86 (32-bit) only recognizes 3 of my 4 gb ram. Should i upgrade to windows 7 x64 (64-bit)? I just upgraded to win 7 from vista (both x86) on my sony vaio vgn-280e which was shipped with vista home prem x86 and sony state that it is capable of 4gb ram. I have just upgraded from 3gb to the full 4. And of course only 3 usable according to system properties.

You all say that it's cos x86 oss aren't capable of 4gb ram but that's just not the case with everyone, i've read other forums where people have. And also where x64 users can't access all their 4gb, only 3 or 3. Xgb. I have run linux x86 on here, which uses the full 4, and have an os x leopard install which also detects and uses all 4gb. My bios detects all 4 too. Is there absolutely no way that i can get win 7 to use the full 4gb ddr2 (pc-2 5300 667) ram i have installed?

Further system spec:
Mobile intel 965 express chipset family
Core 2 duo 667mhz t5450 cpus
Intel gma x3100 video (total available graphics memory: 358mb - 64 system, 294 shared)

Also: if i upgrade to win 7 x64, and the full 4gb ram is utilized by the system, isn't the trade-off that an x64 os is more demanding on system resources including ram? Ie. Probably performance-wise i'm not any better off?

Extra question to you: how do i update bios? My bios is showing the full 4 actually, so is my os x install (and using it too). But win 7 x86 says 4 installed, using 3. How can i tell if that extra 1 is or isn't "wasted", ie is it going to graphics (c. 300mb in my case) etc?

Win 7 64-bit Crash - Ram Issues

I recently picked up a copy of windows 7 and thought i'd do a few hardware upgrades at the same time, notably picking up an extra 2x2gb of ram.

The (clean) windows installation continually crashed after the "completing installation" restart, so long as these new ram chips were in the machine; when they were removed, the install went flawlessly. Subsequently, when i put them back in after the install, the computer began to crash just after clearing the windows load screen (the same location as during the install).

I have since tested both these two ram chips and some extra 1gbs that i had laying around in various configurations and amounts to the point where i think i can say that all the ram sticks work fine, as do the slots on the motherboard. I even flashed the motherboard bios hoping that would solve my troubles, but no luck. The bios recognizes all installed ram, and only crashed *after* windows began to load. As near as i can tell, using completely different ram sticks than my new shineys, windows crashes only if my system exceeds 3gbs of ram. Under or at 3gb is fine, in any ram slot configuration, but as soon as i throw the extra gig in it starts to crash.

I've seen other cases on the 'net of similar ram issues caused by the motherboard, but microsoft's compatibility center seems to indicate i should be alright.

Any ideas?

System specs
Asus m2a-mvp mobo
Amd athlon 64 x2-6000+ cpu
Radeon x1950 pro video

Win 7 Home 64-bit Ram Issues

Firstly, pc spec etcmobo = gigabyte ga-n650sli-ds4 http://www.Gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?Pid=2514#ovram = corsair xms2 6400c5c 1. 8v ver 5. 1 (currently at 2*2gb sticks)graphics card = nvidia geforce 260 gtx "approx" total memory 2671 mb (as read from dxdiag)cpu = intel core 2 quad @ 2. 40hz(4 cpus)

The issue im having is im trying to upgrade to 8gb or ram on the above mentioned ram sticks but when ever i go above 2 sticks and enter the realms of >4gb ram windows gets as far as the "starting windows" screen and thats it, it wont even play the little animation. The usual hold-down-power for 4 secs to get a power down goes to a single push at this point (unsure if thats relevant).

I have 4 slots and i have tried all the sticks in all the slots (its been a long night). This is all on the back of a new install after something went horribly wrong in the msconfig interface and my machine was stuck in a loop asking if i wanted to repair windows or start normally both would just reboot the machine back to those options.

In the msconfig interface i have unticked the maxi mum memory (an it support told me to tick it and set it to 0 which is how i got the above issue)regarding bios. My bios can see i have 6gb running when i have the 3 sticks in, not even got to 4 sticks yet. But it just seems windows doesn't wanna play ball. Iv never ungraded my bios before as all the warnings signs tell me not to unless its really really needed. I really hope someone can help with this as iv ran out of things to try.

Dell Xps 710 - 8gb Ram With Win 7 64-bit

Unable to get to 8gb ram on x64 dell xps 710 windows 7. Less than 6 works fine. Notice asymmetric vs interleaved and sdram speed listings change. Dell xps710 did clean install of windows 7 x64 from xp. All went well and things worked fine for a while. Decided i wanted to get more out of my x64 machine so decided to upgrade the ram from 4x1gb to the system max 4x2gb. I originally ordered the wrong ram (pc2-6400 800mhz) and when i installed them the system wouldn't even turn on.

Picked up the correct pc2-5300 667mhz 4x2gb units and after a clean install i put 2x2gb sdrams in with 2x1gb original sdrams. Machine shows 6. 0 gb installed and lists them as 667mhz and dual asymmetric. Everything works fine.

If i installed 4x2gb sdrams, the system says 8gb installed but lists them as 800mhz and dual interleaved? Won't make it through startup. Will try to do a repair but nothing works. Go back to 6 or 4 gb and things are fine? Any ideas?

Cpu-id shows me with 12 gb of ram (http://valid. Canardpc.com/show_oc.php?Id=1136011)
However, window's system info show installed memory (ram) as 6. 00 gb. I also notice that during boot-up, the screen indicates that there is also only 6 gb. Lastly, i ran the memory configuration from crucial which also shows only 6 gb of ram!

Any ideas?

Win 7 64-bit Bsod When Playing Wow Game - Ram Issue

I've been getting windows blue screen of death for some time. I thought it was one of my ram because after swapping them in and out of every slot and even one at a time. One of them was the one that was causing the bsod while the other one was stable. So i replaced both with 4 new sticks and now i'm getting bsod even more often. Like every 30 mins. Before i used to only get it when i was playing a game like wow when i had 2 sticks of ram in and i could go days without crashing. With 1 stick it was constantly stable. Here's are my 2 most recent errors:

Problem signature:
Problem event name: bluescreen
Os version: 6. 1. 7600. 2. 0. 0. 256. 48

Using Key From 64-bit Install For 32-bit Version On Same Pc

Want to use key from 64 bit install for clean install of 32 bit version on same pc. I recently purchased windows 7 ultimate which included the 64 and 32 bit versions. I installed the 64 bit version on my laptop and would like to go to the 32 bit version for compatibility issues with older programs. (I've grown a bit tired of working through the trouble shooting that comes with the 64 bit version) i would like to know if it is legal and possible to use the key from my 64 bit to use for doing a clean install of the 32 bit version on the same pc?

The computer/bios is happy with it but windows 7 will only use 1gb of it.

Upgrading Ram - Which Type Of Ram I Would Need?

Currently i have a windows vista 32 bit, and am going to go to windows 7 64 bit. I only have 2 gigs of ram right now but i want to upgrade to 4 gigs.

Current specs:
Intel core2 duo t9300 2. 5ghz
2. 00gb ram
Windows vista 32 bit

1- i was wondering how to find out which type of ram i would need. (Btw, this is a laptop)

2- is there anywhere that can give instructions for self installation (i heard it was easy to do myself), or if its even wise to do it myself.

3- would it would benefit me to install the ram before or after i did a clean install for windows 7

Ps- any reliable companies that you would suggest that make ram.

64-bit Win 7 Problem With Install Programs

Inin 64 bit windows 7, i've only been able to install 3 of my probably 20 programs i've used before, why is this? Ive tried 64 bit versions designed for windows 7 and tried compatibility modes. I really don't have much to say. Ive got 64 bit, and ive tried just about everything i can. A couple examples of what i cant install that are designed to work for this: itunes, logitech g19 keyboard drivers, alex feinmans iso recorder.

Also one of my cd drives wont let me do anything, like install stiff from a disk or copy a cd, if theres encryption at all. My other cd drive does. Skype doesn't work, nor ventrillo. Steam and all its games run so far, and crysis works but its editing tools don't, and there designed only for 64 bit. I do like windows 7 and i do find that its faster, but whats the point in speed if i cant run anything?

Cannot Install Office 2003 In Win 7 64-bit

Before going to windows 7, i checked to see that my old office pro 2003 software would be compatible. It is, but only sp3. Of course, i had sp3 on my computer, but what i missed is that the installation disks i have only have sp2, so it won't install. Well, i'm not actually sure why it won't install. The error is "the requested operation requires elevation" code 800702e4. I upgraded from xp 32-bit to 7 64-bit. Is there a workaround for this, or am i stuck? I've seen that they are supposed to be compatible, but not for me yet.

Win 7 64-bit Software Raid After Install

Already have windows 7 (and tons of other programs) installed. I am currently considering to add another hard-disk and activate raid 0. The only thing, that holds me back currently is: i don't want to go through an entire new installation. During the fist installation (upgrade from vista), i installed also ahci.

A) is there any chance to activate a software raid without having to go through an entire new installation?

B) would it be alternatively possible to create and save an image of the current installation and then write it back to striped drives?

Home Premium 64-bit Install Issue

I just bought win 7 to upgrade from vista. I also bought a couple new hard drives. I installed the hdds and set them up with raid 0. Loaded the driver so that windows would recognize my array, and it still wouldn't install. I figured this might be because technically the driver is for vista. So i deleted the array and went back to just having 2 hdds. Started installing win 7 and after the computer reboots once or twice the computer goes to a white screen and stays there. I had previously tried installing an oem version of win 7 and it was doing this.

I thought it was because i didn't have the opk software package. Clearly not the case. Any ideas? I haven't tried re-installing vista yet, but before i left for work this morning i started installing ubuntu on my old hard drive and there were no issues.

Install Upgrade - Activate Win 7 64-bit Help

I recently installed windows 7 home premium 32-bit on my imac computer (using vmware) and it works fine. My geek son said under that format windows does not take advantage of all the true hardware features of my imac so he installed the windows 7 home premium 64-bit on the same computer (using the imac boot camp procedure). My windows 7 home premium is a full install not an upgrade and it came with the 32-bit and 64-bit cd.

Now to my problem: when i bring up the windows 7 64-bit and go to systems maint i see the message "2 days until automatic activation. Activate windows now" when i click activate windows now and key in my valid product key i get the message "the activation server determined that the specified product key could not be used" i'm thinking mabe i should uninstall the windows 7 32-bit so my question is how do i deactivate my windows 7 32-bit so windows wont think i have 2 windows 7 versions on the same computer?

It requires me to download and run the windows validation components first, but after downloading and running these the message is that they are already installed. They don't get as far a running. How do i actually get the system validated? There's no error other than "windows activation is already installed" and then the installation stops.

Dot Net 2.0 Framework For 64-bit Fails To Install

I'm getting very stretched with programs not running under windows 7 64-bit. Its just not ready yet. So, i have several programs with mutual dependencies on dot net framework. I go to microsoft site, download the version of 2. 0 that is tagged for i64, and run it. It fails. Gives some error i've never encountered about "wrong machine type". Of course, the 32 bit version also fails. Simply says wrong version for this operating system. Which i guess is the right error code. Will microsoft support dot net on windows 7?
