Upgrade Home Premium To Professional

Background: recently purchased an hp desktop computer that came with windows 7 home premium 64-bit. Since then i upgraded to windows 7 professional via a retail copy purchased locally.

Question: is there a chance of any incompatibility/conflict/? In using a non-hp winodws 7 upgrade package? I seem to have multiple errors on the machine except in safe mode and cannot seem to run long before the system crashes. All my hardware checks pass, but i get blue sceens on just about anything you can get them on - memory_management, ntfs.sys, bad_poool_header, pfn_list_corrupt, system service exception, page_fault_in_nonpaged area, registry error, irqnle.

Problem Upgrading From Home Premium To Professional

I had a problem upgrading from win7 home premium to win7 professional. The search for "anytime upgrade" yielded no results. In other words, it could not find anytime upgrade on my machine and that step was necessary to start the upgrade process. A clerk at office depot offered a suggestion that i did not get in two days on this forum and it worked. Click on the control panel and click on the "view by" button. Select large icons and one of the selections should be "windows anytime upgrade".

I selected the icon and entered my product key. Ten minutes later my machine is upgraded to win7 pro. S information, my win7 home premium was an upgrade from vista. This worked for me and i am passing the information on so that it might help others.

Upgrade Vista Premium To Win7 Home Premium

Bought a hp dv7 just before win 7 came out with promise of an upgrade to win7 when it was launched. When the upgrade disk eventually arrived in feb time we had a guy from hp come and do the upgrade. Unfortunately he had not done one before and was a hardware guy so i do not have a clue what he did but some 7 hours later it appears to be working. Unfortunately it seems to be unstable. We have strange things like when opening windows mail and using on closing we have to click on the x twice to close it, the first it appears to close but the second one then closes it.

Also i have just tried to install the latest quickbooks and the pos part locks up, installs okay on the hp i bought with win 7 on already. As part of qb it installs google desktop which causes the entry area in the taskbar to flash and a message keeps coming up that google desktop has had to close down and you need to run it again from the start menu. Tried running a system check package of the microsoft website but it failed with a runtime error. I suspect it is the vista to win 7 upgrade that is the cause or interaction with the hp stuff that gets installed.

Can I Re-use Installation Key To Upgrade From Premium To Professional On New Laptop?

I have purchased four computers, and return four computers because i've been told that the computers i have purchased would run the windows 7 professional in xp mode, and they do not.

I have now done research, and will return and purchase a new laptop which i am certain, according to the specifications, will run windows 7 professional in the xp mode.

My question is can i re-use the installation key to upgrade from windows 7 home premium to windows 7 professional on the new laptop i will be purchasing because i am returning the old one. Purchased the laptop on monday, the software, i purchased from a separate vendor when i purchased the initial laptop.

There is light at the end of the tunnel, but i know the new store will not trade my now invalid key code for the software i installed on the laptop i am returning to them.

Can anyone help me please?

Upgrade From Vista Home Premium

Over 3 years ago i purchased an hp computer with xp mce on it. At the time of purchase the computer was eligible for a free upgrade to vista, via a requested dvd(or cd), which i received. I later did the upgrade with an "in place", so as to not lose xp programs. It worked well. I am now considering upgrading vista home premium to win 7 home premium, with an in-place upgrade. My question is do i purchase the upgrade, or full version of 7? The computer meets the microsoft win 7 upgrade eligible requirements.

Home Premium Upgrade Reinstall

I recently successfully installed windows 7 home premium using an upgrade disk onto my dell laptop that had vista basic with sp1 installed. I used the custom option instead of the upgrade option to do this. Everything worked well and my product activated as required. This also put a windows. Old folder on my laptop (which eats up a lot of space)

Here is my issue though - i have since found out that, after clicking the custom option, i had the ability to click on the drive option (advanced) button that would allow me to actually delete and then create a new partition for a completely clean install, which i would have preferred.

I have no problem at this point re-installing my os, but since i have a windows 7 upgrade disk and not the "full" product, if i delete and create a new partition will the installer still recognize that i am doing an upgrade or will i have a problem re-activating my product?

Home Premium To Ultimate Upgrade

My questions is about upgrading windows 7 home premium to windows 7 ultimate. At his moment im using windows 7 home premium, but im thinking of upgrading to windows 7 ultimate. But im not sure wich version of ultimate i need to do this. I was thinking of buying the full version of ultimate because when i need to reinstall windows later, only this disk will be sufficient.

Later i noticed that there is an upgrade version of windows 7 ultimate, but its available at the same price as the full version.

So basically, i want to know if i can upgrade windows 7 home premium to windows 7 ultimate using the full version of windows ultimate, or do i need the upgarde version?

How To Upgrade From Home Premium To Ultimate?

Is there someone out there who can help me with this problem as i am going round the twist. Okay here goes, are you sitting comfortably then i shall begin. I bought a new computer and it had o/s win7 home premium set up on it and the disk etc. Was with it, i wanted to upgrade to ultimate but was put off by the price, i heard of this site that was software4students and when i got on it was able to buy the upgrade at a much reduced price, anyway i have tried to upgrade but have failed because it asks me for a key to activate it but i have only the product key, it tells me that i have to do a clean upgrade not a custom one, i bought it because i could do a custom upgrade as i am not in the slightest pc wise or a tecky at computer work, i can do the usual stuff but the ultimate upgrade is sat on my shelf and after trying to contact software4students and getting nowhere then microsoft, who wanted £45 to a question, i don't think so, i am left with a feeling that i have been conned as i have very little money and it took an age for me to afford the upgrade as i cannot work due to being disabled, a clean upgrade means i have to clear my pc and do the upgrade but it will come to nothing as i will be asked for the upgrade key and i do not have it so any help will be so very welcome. One thing please keep it very basic and simple as i am not very pc wise and able to do programming stuff, hope someone can help as i would like to get this up and running.

Anytime Upgrade From Home Premium To Ultimate

I have windows 7 home premium in spanish installed in my computer. I do not speak spanish, so i would like to change the language to english. For this purpose, i would like to upgrade my os to windows 7 ultimate. I have 2 questions:1. Are windows 7 "anytime upgrade" packages language specific (i.e. In order to upgrade my windows 7 home premium spanish, do i need to purchase spanish version of anytime upgrade package)? If yes, where can i find it in us?2. Anytime upgrade packages are not released in my country yet. I will travel to us next week, so i plan to purchase a package there. Can i install the package when i return back to my country? Or, will it check my ip and tell that i am not in us so cannot upgrade.

Upgrade Issues From Starter To Home Premium

So i just bought a dell mini with windows 7 starter on it. I have also recently purchased a copy of windows 7 home premium or my home pc. I used the activation code from the windows 7 premium with the mini it upgraded the mini from stater to home premium, but a few days later it rejected the activation code because it is in use on my home pc. I have no issue buying the upgrade, however when i go to windows 7's site there is no option for this. I keeps seeing that i have home premium installed even though it is not activated. It gives me an option to upgrade to professional. Any thoughts?

Vista Home Premium In Place Upgrade Problem

I have been having trouble with updates for a long time (a bit over 6 months. ) I tried to do an upgrade in place with my system instad of continuing to beat a dead horse (fixing whatever is wrong with updates - nigh impossible to do) or taking the slegehammer approach (clean reinstall of os)

The upgrade in place is fron vista home premium sp1 media. (I'm running vista home premium sp1 with the botched update problems. ) It appears as though it's going to work but then when i login after it's complete a get a dialog that says: this version of windows could not be installed. Your previous version of windows has been restored, and you can continue to use it. Before trying to install this version of windows again, check onlin to see if it is compatible with your computer.

Another dialog also comes up that says: windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown. A problems caused windows to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available. Finally, another dialog comes up that says: address a problem with audio driver (stwrt.sys) audio driver has stopped worknig properly. To solve this problems go to your computer manufacturer's website and search for audio driver updates.

Notes: i had the sound card completely disabled (via devmgmt. Msc) during this process. There is no update to the audio driver: it is the most recent. The computer is running vista home premium sp1. It is clearly capable of running in that configuration. (When i purchased it, it was running vista home premium before any sps had been issued. )

Upgrade From Vista Home Premium 32-bit Failed Installation

I am attempting to upgrade from windows vista home premium 32-bit to windows 7 home premium 32-bit. I obtained this upgrade from a download, and my installation is failing.

At 21% of the way through the "expanding windows files" process, the installation quits with the following message:

"The upgrade was canceled. Any changes that were made to your computer during the upgrade process will not be saved. " And in a bow below that message: "setup can't continue. Your computer will now restart and your previous version of windows will be restored. "

No reason is given for the cancellation of the upgrade. I have, however, run the windows upgrade advisor, which has shown that my computer is fully compatible. All programs that it advised me to remove have been removed. I've also removed all external devices from my computer during the installation.

I fear i may have a corrupted installation file of some kind but am not sure of anything. I'd appreciate if anyone has any suggestions, or has been in this situation before and or knows what to do.

Upgrading From Vista Home Premium

Multiple questions about upgrading. I currently have vista home premium installed on both my laptop and my desktop. Vista home premium is 32-bit. Can i upgrade to windows 7 ultimate 64-bit or do i have to continue with 32-bit? Windows 7 ultimate upgrade is licensed for one install, one computer. What happens if i want to buy a new computer a few months from now which has windows 7 home premium installed and i want to upgrade it to ultimate? Do i have to buy the software once again or can i upgrade with the software already purchased and installed on an old system, actually transferring the license to the new system?I now have vista on my laptop and desktop computers.

If i upgrade the desktop to 7 ultimate, will i also be able to upgrade the laptop seeing as how the two are used for business and travel access - same purposeslso, if i have to leave vista home premium on my laptop, installing ultimate only on my desktop, will i be able to take advantage of the remote desktop access in 7 ultimate using my laptop which will have the vista os?

If i want to, or need to, upgrade both my laptop and my desktop to 7 ultimate using the same piece of software, will i need to purchase a second license/key for the second computer? If so, how is that accomplished and how much will it cost? I'm hoping it isn't necessary to purchase the software twice in order to have it accessible on both my laptop and my desktop . . . What are my options?

Does Home Premium Support Ftp?

I am about to change from mac and have ordered a laptop with 7 home premium 64 bit installed, but i want to use my canon wireless filt transmitter to send images to my pc. The manual for the canon says apple osx is fine ( it can be used as a ftp server ) but that windows vista home and xp home are not because they cannot suppor ftp server functionality. Is this also the case with 7 home premium? Is there nothing i can do other than either tostick with mac or buy windows 7 pro? I'm pretty new to windows as you gather and don't want to make an expensive mistake.

Home Premium Remote Access

I'm running windows 7 home premium, is it possible to setup remote access or do i need to upgrade to windows 7 professional? Microsoft's web page that compares premium, professional, and ultimate states the following is for all 3:"access you photos, movies, and videos from a pc running windows 7 anywhere in the world". This would indicate remote access should work from windows 7 premium but have not been able to get it to work. Is there some "trick" or is this a mis-statement?

Whilst being repaired they have reformatted my laptop which took it back from windows 7 to windows vista. I have now reinstalled windows 7 from my genuine upgrade disk and then tried to activate it and i get the error code 0xc004c008 telling me that i cant use this product key, and it gives me a list of options on what to do. I chose thr re-enter option but still no luck. I have only 1 day left to activate, but i cant call microsoft as they only operate between 8am and 8pm in australia.

Home Premium Activation Woes

I bought a windows 7 home premium 3 license family pack in november. Now that i finally have all 3 pcs installed with w7, i can't activate my version after restoring from a backed up image. It keep telling me my key has already expired, which, quite frankly, is a load of b$. I didn't spend the money for a legitimate copy to be told i'm attempting to steal it in a roundabout way. I've already called the so-called help line, which was worthless, since it said their rep center is closed.

The online activation wizard was a joke, as well, since it said my license key was only valid for one pc, which is more b$. This is the first time i've ever had this kind of issue and i am not only annoyed, but i'm also insulted. This is ridiculous! Get a grip on the situation, microsoft, or find a better, less buggy way to validate your products. A customer dissatisfaction support is in order, i believe/

So, now that that rant is over, what can i do? I'm going to be even more belligerent if i have to wait for the customer support center to open.

Home Premium 64-bit Virtual Pc

I was noticing that virtual pc 2007 is available on the list of student downloads, but there isn't a version that will run on windows 7 64-bit that i can find a link too, which kind of makes me sad since it would solve a lot of the issues im currently having with a c+ class i'm taking, teacher is making us use borland 5. 02 which i cant seem to get to work in windows 7, at least not completely, but anyway i spent most of yesterday and today repartitioning my hard drive and installing vista 32 bit on another section of my drive, but now i have to switch between them since all my visual studio 2008 projects are on my windows 7 partition. If a version of virtual pc 2007 exists for windows 7 home premium 64 bit then please let me know.

Acer Win 7 Home Premium Oem

I have an acer aspire desktop pre installed win7 home premium oem x64 – it is needing a complete clean re install, only thing is i don't have a windows 7 home premium oem dvd. I only have a retail win7 dvd that i purchased a while ago for my partner- so is it possible to use the win 7 home premium dvd retail to re install my acer oem?

Does it work by changing the ei. Cfg file from – channel – retail to oem?

Or just by removing the ei. Cfg file?

Would any of the above work and if not is there another way around this? Now for what i mention on the above and having read the microsoft laws i am assuming this is boarder line from being illegal. As all of the above has been purchased by myself. And i don't want to use the recovery partition as full of bloatware.

Remote Access Home Premium / Pro

I am about to purchase windows 7 pro. My questions is, it is of my understanding that you can remotely access with windows 7 pro your computer at home from work with 7 pro on your home computer. I, however, also have a new laptop that came with windows 7 home premium on it. Would i be able to access the laptop with the 7 home premium as well from work through the desktop that has the 7 pro on it at home. I have a wireless network as well linked to my desktop that my laptop uses in case that would be a determining factor.

Home Premium Office Product Key

Ive bought a new hp pavillion laptop and i tried going on the microsoft office stuff but it demands a product key. I searched through the whole box and everything and finally found something that read "product key" under my laptop. I was just really excited and typed in that product key but it said i had the wrong key. So i searched everywhere on the internet to find a solution and found out that the product key was not for office. So now i need to know where the office product key is, or if the microsoft on my laptop is a trial. If it is a trial how long is it for?
