Htpc - S3 Sleep Not Working

I have recently put together a windows 7 htpc (see components below). Media center is working great! I'm just having problems configuring the sleep settings. Here is the rundown:

S3 sleep does not work - error message and reboot when computer wakes
S1 sleep works - cannot wake up computer with remote

Bios is set correctly but s3 sleep does not work. I can wake the computer from s3 sleep using the keyboard/mouse/power button the error screen only appears for a few seconds so i'm unable to make out any error codes. I've checked the event logs, but they don't say much just that my computer was shut down unexpectedly. I tried disabling "hybrid sleep" which seemed to work - the computer woke up and i saw the desktop, but an error message popped up shortly followed by a reboot. Ideally i would like to be able to enter s3 sleep with remote and wake with the remote. S1 sleep won't wake from remote.

I can successfully wake from s1 sleep with the keyboard/mouse/power button, but not the remote. I have tried looking in the device manager for a setting to allow the remote to wake from sleep, but haven't been able to find one. The ehome infrared transceiver device does not a have power management tab. Fyi, i am using the ir receiver port on my hauppauge tuner card not a usb receiver.

Computer Sleep

I set my computer to sleep after 30 minutes. It did go to sleep. When i moved the mouse to wake it up, only the wallpaper loaded up. No icons at all. I had to turn it off by the on and off button on the tower. Not a good idea, but that was the only way i could restart my computer, after it turned on again all my icons were there and i was able to resume all the functions again. Any ideas how to set it to sleep without this problem? This is a new windows 7 computer. Hp pavillion elite 137c

Pc Will Not Sleep Or Shut Down

My computer will not shut down or sleep, i am running windows 7 64-bit on an hp pavillion slimline. When i click either of these options it tells me it is going to sleep or shutting down, but the actual computer never does. It stays on the shutting down screen with the circled icon constantly spinning. Eventually it just cuts out like after some time, ill say about 5-10 mins, then restarts saying there was an issue shutting down. So for the past couple of days i been trying to fix this problem and it seems i cant do it on my own.

Win 7 Sleep Issues

Having installed windows 7 this weekend, i now find that my system isn't really sleeping. It does go into an altered state but i don't think it's really sleep and i can't wake it up with the (ps/2) keyboard as i could before.

The energy report from powercfg says that s3 has been disabled due to a known hardware conflict but standby worked with the same hardware in windows xp. Is there some way i can determine what this "known" conflict is and override it?

The report also lists some usb devices that are not entering suspended state. How do i match the ids on the report to entries in the device manager? Finally, would replacing the keyboard with a usb model let me wake it up with the keyboard again? There were so many complaints about usb keyboards preventing standby that i've tended to stay away from them.

How To Configure Mouse To Allow Sleep?

Three days ago, i did a clean install of windows 7 and configured the machine to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity. That worked fine for two days. Yesterday, i installed intellipoint 7 because i need to program the extra buttons on my intellimouse explorer 4 for different applications. Now that i've done that, the machine will not sleep automatically. When i display the properties for the mouse and go to the power management tab, the option to allow the machine to turn off power to the mouse is not activated. Iow, i cannot check that box.

I changed my advanced power management settings to be sure that i set the multimedia sharing to allow the machine to sleep and also disabled "selective suspend" (not sure what it's for) but i still can't get the check box in the mouse power management properties to be activated. Edit:  i uninstalled intellipoint 7 and sure enough, the machine sleeps as expected. The box on the power management tab remains deactivated but the machine is sleeping. What's going on here? I never had any problem with this in same model mouse with either windows xp or vista.

Is this a "known issue"? The old version of intellipoint is not compatible with windows 7 so i can't use it. Is there any way to program my buttons and get windows 7 to sleep?  Does anyone know if i can run an old version of intellipoint in some sort of compatibility mode? Fyi to microsoft: intellipoint seems to have degraded with every successive release since version 3. If that version supported my current mouse and would run on windows 7, i would definitely be using it.

Troubleshooting Sleep Mode

I have a brand new hp laptop w/fingerprint reader. It's has continually had a problem coming out of sleep mode. When i was using just a password it would always tell me my password was invalid, when i started using the fingerprint reader it always says it doesn't recognize the reader. I could do a hard reboot (disconnect power and remove battery) and it would cure the issue. This last time i did a hard reboot the computer started up, the screen flashed and went black and it will not and has not allowed me to do anything. Keyboard and mouse do not function, black screen. Lights on the keyboard come on and the fans work but that's it!

Cannot Disable Keyboard Wake From Sleep

I have an asus n80vn notebook. I want to be able to wake up my notebook only by pressing the power button or the sleep button. I do not want any other keyboard key to wake my computer from sleep. Currently, pressing any key on the keyboard will wake my computer from sleep.

Here's what i've already tried:

1. Go to device manager -> keyboards -> properties -> power management -> uncheck "allow this device to wake the computer" why it doesn't work : there is no power management tab in my keyboard driver's properties window. I currently have four entries under "keyboards in the device manager:

Keyboard device filter
Microsoft ehome mcir 109 keyboard
Microsoft ehome mcir keyboard
Microsoft ehome remote control keyboard keys
There is no power management tab in any of these!

2. Go into bios, disable "wake on keyboard" why it doesn't work: there is no "wake on keyboard" option, nor anything similar, in my bios.

3. Open a command window, use the "powercfg -devicedisablewake" command to disable waking from the keyboard. Why it doesn't work: "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" does not report any devices currently set up to wake my computer from sleep. Furthermore, "powercfg -devicequery wake_programmable" only reports that my network card and my usb mouse are capable of being set to wake my computer from sleep (both are currently set not to wake the computer); it makes no mention of the keyboard.

I'm resigned to the idea that i will need to edit my registry, replace my keyboard drivers, or something equally intensive to prevent my keyboard from waking my computer, but i definitely want to do so. If it matters, i have the computer set only to go into s3 sleep, and have disabled hibernation. Any ideas?

Keyboard Dead During Sleep Mode

To date i've been impressed with windows 7. I now have an issue that will have me moving to unix or back to windows xp if i cannot find a resolution quickly. I noticed recently when the pc was asleep that i couldn't wake it using [usb] kbd or [ps/2] mouse.

Pressing caps lock on keyboard gives no result as if power to the kbd has been removed. The only way i am able to get out of sleep mode is to press the front-panel reset button. I'm loathe to do that too often. I'm not aware of any changes made to the computer that coincided with this problem starting. Any ideas what could be going on here? Where do you start troubleshooting if the keyboard and mouse are unresponsive?

Keyboard Does Not Work After Sleep / Hibernate

After i updated to windows 7 (clean install from xp) my keyboard (standard ps/2) will stop working after my pc goes into sleep or hibernate. I changed the keyboard settings to "allow this device to wake computer", which works for sleep mode. However, once the computer goes into hibernate the keyboard will once again not work and the "allow this device to wake computer" box is no longer checked. The drivers are up to date. Is there a fix or work around for this?

Win7 Won't Sleep

I have had this problem since i upgraded from vista to windows 7 back in november 2009, and it is becoming too annoying. I have a sony vgn-nw120d and am running a windows 7 home premium 64-bit system. (If more info is required, please ask!) Anyways, this is the problem: when my laptop goes to sleep, it does not go to sleep. The screen turns black but the laptop is clearly still running because the fans are still on. However, at this point, the laptop becomes unresponsive.

The screen will not turn back on whatever i do it can't do anything - it is as if it is frozen, forcing me to do a force-shutdown by holding down the power button for 15 seconds. I have downloaded many of the drivers on sony's website and have even spoken to sony representatives about this problem, but there has been no luck.

This problem does not happen every time i send my laptop to sleep, but it happens often enough to be a great annoyance. I've asked around many forums but have not gotten a solution as of yet. I have even tried reverting my laptop back to the factory condition (and hence, back to vista), and then re-upgrading it back to windows 7. I hope that someone will help me this time until the issue is resolved.

Sleep Option Problem After Upgrade

I have an hp pavilion dv6500 (though it says dv6000 on the case) that i bought in june 2007. I recently upgraded to windows 7 professional (32) from vista ultimate. Ever since i installed windows 7, the computer won't sleep-it's not even an option. The option on the start menu is grayed out, and when i go to edit plan settings, there are no options to put it into sleep. When i go to advanced power settings, the sleep node only has "hibernate after" and "allow wake up timers. " Under "power buttons and lid" the drop down menus only offer hibernate, shut down, and do nothing.

It seems to me that this is some sort of hardware/driver issue, but i have no clue how to solve it.

After Update Sleep Mode Is Broken

I had my computer set to go to sleep after about 20 minutes or so and when i would wake it up, it would immediately show the login screen and i would type my password and then the desktop would show up right away. Well then i installed some "update" and now when i go to wake my computer up it starts all the way back from my bios, running the bios initialization and essentially starting windows as if i just turned my computer on, then it takes forever to load up the password screen and after i enter my password it takes another few minutes to load my desktop. This is unacceptable its actually faster to shut my computer down and turn it back on!

Hdd Problem With Sleep Mode

When the computer goes into suspend, it hangs the hard drives, and doesn't spin them down. Im using win 7, 64, and i am wondering if theres a control panel or something that governs how the computer suspends itself. Im curious to know if you have ever heard of hdd's that do not have the spin-down feature in them. Why i am curious, is that these 2 250gb hdds came out of a raid array, and they are spec built to be continuous (for server type use that never spin down)which may be the problem. I don't know if its hardware or software.

Sound Dead After Sleep Mode

Every time my computer goes into sleep mode, and i turn it back on again the sound is gone. I've searched for hours and hours trying things suggested to others with the exact same problem. I've done troubleshooting steps, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, trying different settings in the sound control panel. Nothing. My computer is a self-built running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, i've got a gigabyte mobo with onboard realtek hd. Cannot Print After Resuming From Sleep Mode

Will not print after sleep mode with win 7 pro, after coming out of sleep mode, 2 printers will not print. I need to restart/reboot, and upon restart printers begin printing jobs in que. Same happens when coming out of sleep mode on win 7, when trying to print from networked win xp pro pc. I need to restart the win 7 pro pc. Printers are hp laserjet 3030 and hp deskjet 6122 (with deskjet 990c driver for the hp 6122). I have had this problem since set up of my win 7 pro pc in feb 2010; haven't found an answer yet.

This new pc has 2. 8 ghz amd athlon ii x64 7850, with 4 gb ram, 500 gb hd (only using 10% of hd). I have avast home, lavasoft ad-aware, threatfire; all in memory; windows firewall or comodo firewall set at different times - never on at the same time. Right now this is the major glitch. I know that network printing will not work when win 7 pro pc is in sleep mode; but after coming out of sleep mode printing is no longer available. I have run the troubleshooter countless times, but so far no answers.

Display Image Translated Up Or Down After Sleep

Monitor hp l2445m
Display adapter intel q45/43 express chipset
Windows 7 ultimate 64bits

Issue:
When the monitor comes out of sleep, the image is translated a couple of pixels up or down, usually up (between 5 and 10 pixels). That means the top of the image is truncated while i have a horizontal black stripe at the bottom.

Pictures after and before:
http://cid-dfbbf8b0792cbc29. Skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/display%20issue%20pictures/dsc00102.jpg?Sa=826062896

If i restart the monitor or do an auto adjustment, it comes back to normal.

The issue seems to come from the windows7 machine because i tried with several laptops running vista, and this does not happen.

I have the latest drivers for the display adapter and the monitor. This is not terribly annoying but i d like to have it work.

Usb Failure When Resuming From Sleep

To start i have windows 7 ultimate on a homebuilt machine:intel core i7 920gigabyte ga-x58a-ud7 logitech mx 5500 revolution bluetooth mouse and keyboard when my bios is set to s3 suspend, the machine sleeps or hibernates as it should and wakes by moving or clicking the mouse, but when i get to the windows logon screen the mouse and keyboard no longer work. I've tried unplugging and replugging the usb reciever, moving it to a new usb port, and updating logitech setpoint drivers.

I am able to plug in a wired mouse and keyboard to control the machine but when i log back in it seems some other usb devices (ups and cac card reader) have lost connection, but my external hdd and webcam function properly. It seems my mouse and keyboard no longer show up in device manager and the only way to get them back is a restart. If i sleep again, while leaving my wired keyboard an mouse plugged in, everything works normally, until i'm back and the log on screen, where my wired keyboard and mouse will also be inoperative.

To add to the confusion, if i sleep or hibernate with the bios in s1 mode, then everything works fine, but unfortunately i prefer s3. I've checked all the settings in bios, keyboard and mouse are allowed to wake the computer (and they do wake it like they should). In windows device manager they are allowed to wake the computer. In power settings i've tried hybrid sleep on/off and also usb selective suspend on/off.

I updated my motherboard bios (rechecked all the setting), installed new chipset drivers, and installed these 2 microsoft hotfixes just for fun (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/974476  && http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978258). I just tried using the keyboard and mouse on my laptop also running windows 7 ultimate, and sleep and resume worked fine, so that seems to rule out logitech drivers as the culprit, leaving me with microsoft windows or gigabyte to blame.

Usb Connection To Ups During Sleep

How to maintain usb connection to usb ups during sleep (win 7 64)? Still no answer to vexing problem with system losing connection to ups during sleep. Brand new desktop (dell studio xps 8100; intel core i-7 860 @ 2. 8 ghz; win 7 ult 64; 8 gb ram; ati radeon hd 5770, etc). Brand new apc back ups xs1300lcd w/power chute personal edition v. 2. 2. (Win7 compatible).

As with my older vista ult sp2 (32-bit) system, sleep cuts power to usb devices, including the ups.
So, if a power outage were to occur during sleep, the apc software could not perform its managed system shutdown. That defeats the purpose of having the ups with its shutdown software.

Ts at my computer maker (dell) and at apc have been unhelpful. The only viable "workaround" in vista was to implement a power plan that never put the hdd to sleep. Not a very good solution, but at least it allowed the ups shutdown software to do its job in the event of a power outage.

Apparently, this is the only workaround for win 7, as well. Or is it? If i disable usb selective suspend in the settings for a power plan that does put the hdd to sleep, will this or will this not resolve the issue and allow the computer to maintain power to (and the connection with) the ups during sleep? I am not overly computer savvy, but i hope there *is* a more satisfying solution to this problem. I have posted to these forums several times in recent weeks, but never seem to get a reply.

Not Even Bios Post After Win 7 Sleep

My windows 7 installation was working fine including sleep mode for about a week, when it suddenly locked up on keyboard awake from sleep. When this occurred, the machine awakened, and the fans and disks spinned up, but the monitor showed no signal. The machine would not respond to ctl-alt-del, power button press, power button hold or reset. The only way to get it to turn off, was to flip the main (rear-panel) power switch. Since then, turning on the rear panel switch and then the front panel button causes the disks and fans to spin up, but that is all.

No bios post, nothing and, again, only hard power cycling will turn off the machine. I tried clearing the bios, but the problem persist. I checked the monitor with another machine and it is working. I tried pinging the machine after allowing it enough time to boot, but there is no response. It won't boot from cd/dvd it wont boot to safe. It doesn't even post bios prompts.

Win 7 Goes To Sleep After Splash Screen

I just installed a fresh copy of the above on a new system (new mb, drives, ram, etc. ) After a successful installation, i eventually did a reboot, and right after the splash screen appears, the screen goes black, and is not responsive to any keystrokes. After a power cycle, i get the options menu to load safe mode, etc since the machine was essentially in windows when i powered it off. Any ideas? Edit: i've changed power settings in bios to s3 from s1, i've disabled sending monitor to standby in group policy for battery and connected electricity while in safe mode. It boots into safe mode without a problem.
