Error - Do Not Have Permission To Save To That Folder

When i download files and try to save them to my folders in 'd' drive, i get an error that says i do not have permission to save to that folder. I was a vista user and created these files and folders on 'd' drive. When vista crashed, i began using win7rc for many months and had no problems accessing the folders and files on 'd' drive. Yesterday i installed rtm. Now when i download files and try to save them to my folders in 'd' drive, i get an error that says i do not have permission to save to that folder. I am the only user and am an administrator.

I used the same user name on the install of rtm that i had in rc. I did change the computer name during the install of rtm. How can i regain control of my folders. I do not have any trouble reading the files in the folders. I have set up my libraries the same as all user files are in 'd' drive.

Open File Security Warning

Whenever i boot up right after i log in, this open file security warning pops up, and also prevents my dell dock from loading. I have a 64 bit dell inspiron laptop, and have been dealing with this for the past 2 weeks after i have downloaded a video file transfer software, and have been graced with this security warning ever since. I even uninstalled the video software to see if it goes away. It says.

Open file security warning
Name: appdataroamingmicrosoftsvchost.exe
Publisher: unkown
Type: application
From: c:users(my name)appdataroamingmicrosoftsvchost.exe
Then gives me two options to run or cancel

And then it asks me by checking a little box if i want it to always ask before opening this file, but it opens this anyway every time i log into windows when it starts up. This is ridiculously annoying and i am on the verge of giving my one month old dell inspirion laptop to my dog as a chew toy and going out and buying a mac just so i wont have to deal with these ridiculous random security warnings that microsoft has plagued it's consumers with time after time with their operating systems. Can someone please help me before fido chews through the hard drive?

Open File - Security Warning Messages

How can i get rid of those annoying insipid "open file - security warning" messages that drive me nuts every time i execute a program? I've set my user account control to the lowest setting, but those messages still pop up. Isn't there some way to stop them short of opening every program on the computer and un-checking the "always ask before opening this file" box?

File Access Permission

I am moving from an older laptop running xp to a new one which came pre-loaded with windows 7. I am unable to access a folder with all of my previous emails in various sub-folders entitled c:usercomputer administratorlocal settingsapplication datamicrosoftoutlookoutlook. Pst unless i log in as administrator. I went into security under properties in 7 and gave my non-administrator user account full access, yet when i try to open the above folder i am still denied access.

I suppose it has something to do with the "computer administrator" in the file name. How do i go about re-naming this file so it is accessible to the non-administrator user, or is there a better way to make it so that all of my previous email folders are available?

Live File System Will Not Save File

Live file system will not save file!Windows 7 and udf will copy several files and then you get to the last file which is 700 meg and the space free bar under the dvd rw drive shows 1. 2 gig left. The copy starts and runs till about 350 meg left then it slows down all the way to 17 kbs and also till 10 k was left on the dvd. By this time about 5 hrs have gone by and the copy window has showed 1 hr left for 3 hrs. The cancel button won't work task manager when used will crash the system. You can force a shut down but then you have to reactivate norton with your purchase code. A search of the internet for me was no help at all.

Administrator Permission To Delete A File

I have been running as an admin (i have since set up another standard account for my daily work), and i am trying to delete a folder on my external hard-drive. It says i need an admin/everyone's permission to delete the file. I am the only user. I have tried to change the settings for my external hd to share it and grant all users full control. I cannot find a way to change the ownership of it like suggested in one thread.

How can i delete files without getting this message that i need permission, when i am running as an admin or standard user?

Save As File Locations

Often when saving a file, a window pops up with several, what appear to be random, file locations listing where the file can be saved. Some of the locations are actually internet sights. I, always want to save the files to a folder on the hard drive of my computer, usually in the documents folder or a sub-folder. The list of available locations is getting longer and it's hard to find the documents folder in this list. How can i delete all the locations, especially the internet locations, and keep this drop down list manageable?

Full D Recovery Drive Disk Space Warning

I'm having a somewhat similar problem as a previous poster but. Have a newer computer and i upgraded from vista home premium to w7 home premium . My backup d drive is full . I guess the backup has not removed former backups . Now processing is slower and i worried about a total freeze. I used the disk manager and tried to add space onto my d from c but only ended up with an unallocated partition of 20g's .couldn't figure out how to add to d.

In the previous solution " press a special key combination when the computer starts, you can use the recovery partition to restore the computer to the way it was when it was new. " Would that remove windows 7(don't want to do that" or. Do i have to remove the partitions letters for the d? Would that just make it one big c drive? . Would that effect computers performance? How can i get that unallocated partition back to c . Or to d? Sorry for being so wordy but i could sure use some help.

Unable To Save File To Remote Server

My site is hosted on a server with frontpage extensions installed. As such, i can edit my html files directly on the server, but also i have been able to open excel files that are located on the server, update them and then save them directly to the server itself. That was when i used windows xp.

Within windows xp i had added my site via 'my network places' and so could open the xls files within the 'open' dialogue box in excel (2007), click on 'my network places' and then double-click my site and login to view the xls files that i want to edit.

Since i have switched to windows 7, i find that i can no longer do this. I have added my site as a 'network location' in windows 7, but if i log into my site either via windows explorer or within excel, there are no files listed - it is just blank. I can open a file in excel if i type in the exact url address for it in the 'open' dialogue box, but when i try to save it, i find that i cannot save it to the server - the error message is "document not saved".

I really don't want to go back to windows xp, so is there a way to restore the functionality that i had in xp - editing and saving excel files to my server - within windows 7?

Deny Permission On Drive C:

I was tinkering with group and users policies when i accidentally assigned "deny" permission to "full control" on the c: root folder to the "users" group. Now, since c: is the drive where windows is installed, my sysop is pretty screwed up;even as administrator i cannot access any file on that drive, cannot install almost anything and more. Is there a way to restore the permissions on c: without reformatting and reinstalling? Please keep in mind that being c:  the system drive i cannot install anything like msi or msu packages. I think im going crazy.

Downloading Issues / Save Or Open The File Message

Okay, i first noticed this issue when i was playing team fortress. Whenever you enter a server you'll be presented with a server message, which is a html page with-in the program (from my understanding). But when my computer is about to load the server message it minimizes and i get a message saying if i want to save or open the file, if i click open it will open in my browser and the in game window will be blank. Its happened to a few other programs as well, for instance when installing a program the eula will come up as a html doc within the installed and i have to scroll to accept, however it again asks me to open or save, if i open it will open in a browser.

The last place i noticed it was in outlook, whenever i get new mail, instead of doing the normal thing outlook does with mail it asks me if i want to save the file it's receiving. At first i thought my temp folder was full, cleaned it and i still get the issue. Its really limiting what i can do on my computer, could anyone help?

Drive Is Not Accessible - Permission To Use Network Resource

I have done a clean win 7 64 bit install on c drive on my pc that used to be xp. The hard drive has two partitions c drive and d drive. The win 7 pc also has two other hard drives installed each with a single partition (e drive and v drive). The hard drives are not raid configured. The e and v drives were not involved in the win7 installation and therefore still have their xp configuration.
Prior to installing win 7 all partitions on all hard drives on the pc were accessible on the three other xp machines on my "workgroup" home network.

On the win7 machine i can access all drives on all of the xp machines. On any of the xp machines i can access the e and v drives on the win7 machine. When i try to access the win7 c drive or d drive from any of the xp machines i get:

"Pcpc (x) drive is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource" where (x) is either c or d depending on what drive was accessed.

I have tried un-sharing and re-sharing the c and d drive. I have also compared the property settings between the c and d drives that i can't access with the e and v drives that are accessible. Those setting are the same. Please advise any thoughts on what can be done to render my c and d drives accessible on my network xp pcs.

Permission Problem With External Usb Hard Drive

I keep getting change permission to open file messages when trying to access files. I had a pc with windows xp home addition on which packed up. So i've just brought a new laptop windows 7. I need to access some files on the old pc so i took the hard drive out a placed it into an external case. When connected through usb to the laptop i can explore the old hard drive and see all the files i need. But when i try to open or copy the files to the laptop i keep getting permission errors.

I've changed the permissions to the admin on the laptop and checked i have all rights to the files but its still not letting me access them. Is there anyone that can help or is there a program out there that can help me access my files.

How To Format C Drive And Save On D Drive?

So had vista on c drive and used d drive to store. Did clean install of windows 7 on d drive. However, c drive still has about 18 gb of stuff that i'm pretty sure dealt with vista and it won't let me format c drive even though i am logged in as administrator. Found most of the workaround by changing owner of folders from trusted installer yada yada.

Found the way to show hidden folders. Right now have everything deleted except $recycle. Bin boot and system volume information. All i want to do is clean format c since windows 7 is on d drive and free up all the space on c. Everytime i try i get same message "windows was unable to complete format".

Also, even though i've changed permission on d drive i am not able to save even simple notepad docs to d drive. Have to save to a folder. Any ideas on how to change this?

Save As To A Usb Thumb Drive

My usb thumb drive is not cooperating. I can drag (or send) a file to it from the desktop if i "provide administrator permission to copy to this folder. " I can create a new file on the thumb drive. I can even open and edit the new txt file - but "access is denied" if i try to save the file (to its original name and place).

Some applications will save to the thumb drive with an odd message, but the real trouble is an application that flat out refuses to save to the thumb drive. Wordpad says "you don't have permission to save in this location.contact the administrator to obtain permission. "

How to fix the thumb drives?

Cannot Save To C Drive After Windows Update

I have windows 7 and as of yesterday after a windows update i cannot save files to my c drive. I can copy and paste files from an external drive to my c drive but if i try to save something to my c drive from word, paint, etc it says "a required privilege is not held by the client" and if i try to save to a folder within the c drive i get the error "you don't have permission to save in this location.contact the administrator to obtain permission. "

I have not changed any permissions and i have double checked that the permissions are correct. I have also tried to take ownership of the drive and it was successful but that did not resolve the issue. I can save to my documents but not the c drive or any of my personal folders within it. Also, system restore is not an option as every time i try to do system restore it tells me that it has not completed successfully.

Any ideas what could be causing this issue?

Using Internal Drive To Save Files When Upgrading From Xp To Win 7

I've already searched my question countless times, and undoubtedly its possible that my situation has occurred before, but bear with me. Being not as tech-savvy as some ppl, i've been facing some dilemma in wondering if i should upgrade to xp and windows 7.

Currently, my computer has 2 hard-disk, one 50gb, the other 450gb. I run xp from the 50gb, whereas i save most of my games and installation files on my 450gb both of which are internal. Now, in the process from upgrading to xp to windows 7, its recommended that an external hard drive, but as i currently don't have one - i'm wondering if its still possible to save the various stuff i have in the 450gb internal hard-disk, even though its only used for storage?

Start - control panel - hardware and sounds - manage audio devices - properties (for main speakers)

At action: i choses inactivate, at that moment the speakers icon disappeared and i lost my sound in my speakers ever since. I cant find any sorts of configuration/controls over speakers. However before i did this my speakers worked perfectly normally. Now i have to use my headset to even be able to hear anything.

Please help me, how do i get my speakers icon back at sounds configuration at the control panel
Im not very good at fixing computer problems so please respond in a way a "dummy" would understand.

Programs Dont Run In Win 7

I am having a problem with windows-7. I have done a upgrade from vista and found that was a mistake. I did a reinstall as a dual boot because i still needed vista to run the programs that would not run in windows-7. I found that windows-7 is a bigger problem than vista. I had to do a download to run my hp printer that i bought in january of this year. I still cant run my hp photosmart 812 camera. The software won't load. I can't get microsoft age of empires-2 to run with good graphic.

I have about four more that will only run while i am in vista. I have written to hp and they have no plans to update their software. I ran the windows-7 adviser and my computer passed. If i had it to do over, i would not have gone to windows-7 from vista. I have not found any reason to change to windows-7. I am going back to vista and just write this off as a bad experience.

Hot Link Buttons Dont Work

When i load some web sites the hot link buttons aren't working. The problem just appeared. I don't remember any changes to the system. Running windows vista) i am talking about buttons that you click on on a web site that call up pop-up windows. This one site i frequent has buttons that i have always clicked on to call up results pop-ups from bridge games.

All of a sudden when the site opens the outlines of the buttons are there but no filler and no functionality. What has changed and how can i fix it?  I've tried changing cookie settings, and tried to find answers in various help areas. I know the buttons work on the site because i have checked on other computers.

Logitech Quickcam Express Webcams Dont Work

I have an older logitech quickcam express v-uh9 that doesn't seem to get detected by windows 7 (64bit). Old drivers don't work under compatibility mode and also auto detect doesn't seem to find a driver for it either. Software seems to install properly but then just keeps saying to plug in my webcam (i've tried every usb port i have on my computer). I have another webcam that has the same problems (from retail plus).

I'm guessing that his might be a trend with older web-cams?
