This is the technical details of the problem. There is not a virus on this computer. Hopefully you can help. It is very frustrating.

Shut Down Computer From Login Screen

I have my windows 7 systems set up with user account passwords. I sometimes accidentally bump my keyboard and wake my computer up from sleep mode, taking it to the login screen where it waits for a password. How do you shut the computer off or put it back to sleep from the login screen? There isn't a button or anything. Does windows not let you shut the computer off until you log in? It's a completely unnecessary hassle to have to log in to put the computer back to sleep, not to mention if someone else in my family accidentally woke the computer up they wouldn't be able to put it back to sleep at all.

The system reboots automatically and tells me windows shut down unexpectedly. I just upgraded to windows 7 yesterday. I was always able to backup with windows vista home premium 64-bit. I have tried to format the hard drive but the computer does the same thing, that is shuts down, and i get the same message. When i ran windows advisor it told me this drive was compatible with windows 7. What is my solution?

Computer Randomly Shuts Down

I checked the "similar questions" options and didn't none of the solutions seemed to apply to me, so here goes!:So i've had this computer for a while now (i would say about two years). It's a home-built made by a computer-savvy friend of mine and it's been fantastic. It still has high marks in everything but my hard drive. I'm some-what of a gamer, and it's been running games incredibly well. So i decided to move to taiwan to teach english. I really didn't want to miss out on pc gaming for a year(+), so i brought this sucker with me.

I get to my apartment - no 3-prong outlets!  Get a cheap 2-to-3 prong adapter, buy a fancy new screen, and voila, computer seems to be working!  It made the flight with me! (Yes, i had to check it, i had the airline people put tons of "fragile" stickers on it, but that was probably mistake number one, even though i had the original box, and even though i still tried to keep it from getting damaged by putting in other clothes to hopefully brace the shocks. Nyway, so i'm listening to some itunes, for about an hour and then suddenly. Shut down. Oh well, i'll just turn it on.

Itunes. Shut down. I plug in my first-video-gen ipod to update new songs and what not? Shut down. I also brought my laptop here with me so after several more instances of random shut down, i focus on my laptop, and say goodbye until i can bring it to a repair shop or something in the states or have someone with computer knowledge take a look at it. My laptop dies (it was old and had some liquid damage that i guess finally killed it). So now i have to use my desktop. Hey, it's been working ok, even updating my ipod with no problems!

Oh wait, unless i'm playing music at the same time as updating it. So i just don't do that anymore! My computer-savvy friend recommends that i get a diagnostic program to see why i'm having problems. I get this thing called sisoftware sandra lite 2010 from cnet after reading their enthusiastic review. I start up the program and it starts checking. Something. I can't remember, had to do with running calculations and the computer shuts off.

Almost immediately after the test starts. I download and install starcraft 2. Successfully!  "Wow it stayed on long enough to complete it without shutting down! Maybe it's better!"Try to play starcraft 2 - shuts down. Damn! What is wrong with my computer! I see that the little icon at the bottom right has a red x circle on it. I click on it for the first time. "Troubleshoot a problem with your computer. "Oh, might that fix the problem?"Your computer might be encountering a memory problem. " Hmm, hopefully because that's easy to fix, right? Just buy new memory! So i let the windows memory diagnostic test do it's thing.

It restarts the computer and "oo, that's a new thing" the test starts. 1%. 2%. Shut down! So. Is it my memory? If it was my memory wouldn't the test finish? Is it my cpu?  There is a big fan covering the cpu and it moved slightly after the flight.could that have affected the processor? Is it the fact that it's not technically grounded even though it's plugged into a seemingly ok power strip? Is it something else? The motherboard? The fact that it's 110v here and not the us standard 120v?I've also noticed that i can browse the internet ok, but if i try to full-screen a video, it shuts down!

But if i don't full screen the video, there are no problems. It's also really hot and humid here, and i don't have air conditioning yet. Is it overheating? This case is a coolermaster cosmos, it's supposed to be pretty good at keeping everything cool what is going on!?

Monitor Shuts Off But Computer Remains On

Not sure if this is under the right topic, sorry. Well, the monitor will just shut off after booting up the pc. When i bootup in safe mode, the problem still occurs, although it took a longer time for it to turn off. Everything is still running though. This just started happening today. Right now, it seems to be okay, though it took a while before i was able to start it up normally. Several times before, when i tried to boot up, it refused to turn on. The graphics card fan would be on at its highest speed but won't become quiet again, as its supposed to. I had to turn off the main power at the back and wait awhile before i could start it up.

Could it be graphics related? Right now, using speedfan it says my gpu is at 57 c, which is hotter than normal. Also my cpu is at 40c, when its usually at 30 - 35. Usually my com is extremely cool, though i don't use liquid cooling and the room isn't air conditioned. So i don't understand why its suddenly like this.

Or is it a virus? Problem started when my sis tried to change her wallpaper. She said she just clicked on the photo and then the monitor shut off. Virus? Or coincidence? Need your help on this asap :) im using intel core i7 920, overclocked to 3. 2ghz. Asus rampage ii extreme mobo. Expertvision 8800gt sonic.coolermaster storm scout chassis. Windows 7 ultimate.

Floppy Drive Shuts Down Computer

I own a 2005 dell 8400 xp, it did not come with a floppy drive. When i purchased my designer i embroidery unit it required floppies. I ordered a small floppy drive and plugged it in a usb port. For the past couple of years this had worked fine. Now when i plug it in the computer acts as though something is attacking it and shuts down. I use frontier "peace of mind" for my troubleshooting and what not and they told me that when windows did an upgrade it must have down something to no longer recognize the floppy drive and suggested i call dell. Since my computer is no longer under warranted they wouldn't hep me. What can i do?

Computer Shuts Down After Awake From Sleep Mode

I just built a new computer with an asus p7p55d premium motherboard. When i try to wake the computer from sleep mode (i've tried both s1 and s3 sleep modes in the bios), the fans start to run and the motherboard leds turn on, but then the computer just powers off. I then have to turn the computer back on, wait for the bios to load, and then i get the "windows was shut down unexpectedly. Start windows normally or safe mode?" Prompt.

I've tried changing all of the settings i can think of in the windows 7 power options, as well as in the asus bios menu. A friend of mine said it might have to do with acpi settings, but it doesn't seem to change anything when i enable or disable them in the bios.could it possibly be a physical hardware problem? Does anyone have any ideas?

Screen Saver Does Not Work - Display Never Shuts Off

The screen saver never works and the display never shuts off. How do i fix this? I have no idea how to make the screen saver work or get the display to automatically shut off. The preview for the screen saver doesn't even work. Everything i've read said this is typically because of a wireless mouse, but i do not have a wireless mouse or anything else attached to my laptop.

Black Screen Before Login

Computer was running fine until today anyways, i started up a game to play this morning and the video card driver started bugging out - it would crash and recover literally every 5 seconds. I assumed that the intel graphics update that i installed 3 days ago might have been the culprit, so i did a system restore back to the date before it was installed.

However, after the login i was presented with a black screen with simply the cursor - task manager worked, explorer.exe was apparently running but i still had a black screen :/ (although only a tenth of the usual system processes were working) i restarted the computer but now i got the black screen before login, after the windows logo shows up and does the twirly thingy o. O running in safe mode has the same result.

I'm thinking it has something to do with the video card driver, but seeing that i can't get windows to startup all the way i've no idea what to do. Tried putting in a windows 7 os disc in to reinstall but the computer doesn't detect it. I did install another program yesterday but i'm not sure if it's related. Info - windows 7 64 bit, hp pavilion dv6 laptop, 2. 1 ghz dual core, 4 gb ram, intel media graphics accelerator (intel gma 4500 mhd or something. )

Black Screen After Login

I have begun the experience issues with the black screen of death problem. I am running windows 7 pro. On a samsung nc10. I get the black screen after login and am unable to use ctrl alt del to access the task manager. I am able to log into windows normally though via one of two methods - this varies. Either bash in the password really fast when the login screen appears, or wait a few minutes on the login screen then login. I have tried the prevx's fix but this has been unsuccessful. I have just checked my display drivers with samsung but the driver i have installed is upto date.

I have checked around on the web and i think the  only option is to repair install or reinstall but i don't see why this would be relevant or how i would stop the same problem from happening again in another week. I have checked for malware and don't think there is a problem i have also checked for viruses using eset smart sec. And haven't encountered any issues. Do you have any constructive advise?  Do you know when microsoft plan on releasing a fix for this issue?

White Screen On Login

I am running a toshiba satellite portable computer. Upon logging into the admin user account the screen goes white and stays white. Unlike other people i am unable to get the task manager, my only options are lock, switch user, log off and change a password. I am fixing this for a friend and have never encountered this type of issue before. Safeboot results in a black screen with nothing ever happening. Same with command prompt.

I suspect it has something to do with a process starting up. Install discs are not available as this machine is roughly 3 years old and have been misplaced. Just looking for a way even if temporary to at least get the files off it i need so i can wipe the system. I hate vista with a passion. Anyone's quick and speedy response would be great!

Blue Screen At Login

I bought my friend laptop after he came back from iraq cause he no longer wanted it. I was going threw changing the stuff to make it mine, like user name and what not. Well i tried to change the computer name as it was his name kebowlin-pc and it said to do this to restart the computer. I did, and now when the computer gets to windows 7 login screen it goes to the blue screen error. I have done two system restores with no luck. I have also tried changing the name back with now luck. This is what it is telling me.

Also a weird thing that i don't under stand is that the main user file is his name and it has a little lock on its pic in the user files, but i am the only person on the computer and the only admin.

Screen Freezes After Login Within Few Seconds

When i first installed my windows 7 worked perfectly. Now when ever i log in after a few seconds the screen freezes. When i switch user and log in a again but i can't get past 10-15 seconds before the cycle repeats itself. I cannot function with this. Is my windows 7 defective? I thought windows 7 fixed this. My mozilla firefox browser also crashes 15-20+ times a day and my dvd drive does not work anymore both which worked fine and did not crash before when i had vista. Are both my dell studio 1737 and windows 7 home premium defective.

Screen Saver Slows Down Login

I upgraded from vista ultimate to win7 ultimate a number of months ago. Everything works fine, except that whenever i activate any screen-saver, and it runs for a few hours, getting back to the login screen takes five minutes. If the screen-saver runs for a few minutes, no problem. My solution is just to lock the computer, but i wish i could use my screen-saver photos (happens on other screen-savers also). I don't want to do a clean install; not worth it for this inconvenience. Any other suggestions?

Black Screen After Login With Mouse Cursor

I have windows 7 enterprise (bitlockered with tpm).system worked fine for a week. Hp elitebook laptop with nvidia fx2700 video (installed display driver from hp site).

Today i logged in and get a black screen with mouse cursor. Can move cursor around screen. Laptop appears to be running, but screen is black. Can not bring up task manager (or can not see it).
This is not a monitor selection issue (can't switch to another monitor). Plus, mouse cursor is visible.

If i hit crtl-alt-delete, the menu comes up. I can logoff or reboot (can not see task manager).
If i logoff or restart, i go to the windows login screen as normal. Attempt to login and get same black screen. I am trying to login to a domain account.

I can login to local admin account. Seems to work fine from this profile. Is this just a corrupt profile issue? Recreating profile will be difficult from off site. Can try system restore.

I have seen several questions posted regarding black screens, but symptoms seem varied in each case.
Has anyone else had a similar scenario and found an easy fix?

Pc Stuck At Login Screen On Normal And Safe Mode

I turned my pc on in the morning and everything loads up until i get to the login screen and i can't do anything. The mouse doesn't move, the touchscreen doesn't do anything, and the same goes for the keyboard. I've tried "safe mode" and the same problem occurs. I've checked for errors and tried to start at last known good configuration and the problem is still there. I booted into windows vista and it worked like a charm. However, whenever i go into windows 7 the problem is present. If anyone could please help, i would be very thankful.

Crashes And Debugging - Black Screen After Login, Safe Mode Ok

My laptop seems to hang after the login screen, the screen either goes completely black or sometimes shows the desktop picture and an empty taskbar, but i am unable to do anything such as task manager. Leaving the system running for 10-15 minutes after trying ctrl-alt-del will bring up some error message, but i forget what it said, i'll try to get it again.

I can get into safe mode just fine, and ran the sf diagnostic tool from there, i have attached the files it created as requested. The laptop hung on me on shutdown before this issue started and after waiting for 30 minutes for it to try to shut down normally it wasn't responding so i had to power it down. I'm thinking that might've fudged something up but i'm unsure if there were any windows updates queued at the time or not. I'm really unsure what to do at this point, there aren't any system restore points, i didn't remember turning it off but i must have at some point.

Computer Boots To Black Screen

"black" screen and then a restart! New computer 5/2010 - dell inspiron 580 intel core i5 -8 gig - hd 1 tb_dedicated video card  8ginew computer 5/2010 - dell inspiron 580 intel core i5 -8 gig - hd 1 tb. Dedicated video card windows 7 64 bit started off with black screen (never have had a blue screen) then would come back on again after a few seconds. Eventually it would not come on again and i would have to shut down the computer and restart it! This went on almost daily, until it became more and more often during each day and became a pain.

I called dell and they "flashed the mother board" that worked for a little while and then within a few days, it started again, and progressed to the point of screen going black and the computer restarting all by itself. There was no "one thing" i was doing at the time. Originally it did it most when i was stressing the video card, but after they flashed the mb, it happened whenever it felt like it whatever i was doing. One morning i came out to the computer and it was frozen and there was a message on ti saying it h ad not been shut down correctly!

That was false as i had restarted it before i went to bed and it was fine!I called del again and they are going to schedule a tech to come out here and pull out all the major parts, mb etc (not my hd) and see if that fixes it, since it is still under warranty. I was sharing this on a yahoo list i am on and someone told me they had happened to them and a work mate good with computers, had suggested they try a new mouse!

They did and the issue resolved itself and they had no further issues! I said thank you, i am willing to try anything. I switched the mouse with from my older computer to my new one and visa versa. That was one week or so ago! I have not had an issue since!I am really perplexed at this!  Has anyone ever heard of a mouse causing a black screen and a computer restart consistently? I have not called del back again, because i keep thinking that it will start again. Is is possible that his issue was a simple as that and if so, why would a mouse cause that?

Computer Crashes - Screen Flashes Very Quickly

About every other time i boot my computer, i get a bluescreen, and the computer crashes. The screen flashes very quickly, but it says something about a corrupt driver. I'm running windows 7, and i have at&t internet security suite as my virus protection, etc. Is there a list of essential drivers needed for windows 7? I'm at a point where i may just go in and delete any drivers that aren't essential since the "check solution" area offers no assistance. Suddenly Computer Stops With Blue Screen And Restarts

My system is win 7. I recently got this new notebook. I thought i was having problem with anti-virus but i recently came to know about this blue screen of death. Suddenly the computer stops in between anytime with the blue screen showing up and computer restarts. I recently uninstalled norton which was a free-version which i got with notebook and installed kaspersky. I ve now even removed kaspersky and installed bit-defender but problem is still occurring. No virus detected by both.

I ve even tried to restore the notebook to the day i bought this. But the problem is not fixed. The error message looks something like what appears in this link http://www.Gadgetlite.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/windows-7-bsod.jpg. I am worried that my new system may get hardware problems due to this.

Computer Randomly Crashes - Screen Will Go To Black Then White

I recently installed windows 7 on my laptop and it was working great until it started crashing.

At first it only crashed when i was using pretty demanding programs but now it sometimes just randomly crashes when using music players etc, and i lose all my work.

When it crashes i'll just be working then the screen will go to black then white then flash back to the original screen, and it will do something like that for about 5 seconds then it shuts down and restarts.

When it turns back on i get a message that simply says windows has has an unexpected shutdown then it likely gives me some options to choose or something. I don't remember exactly.

Computer Display Shakes Nonstop - Hdmi Tv Screen Resolutions

We just bought a dell inspiron 560. When i hooked up our 26" sharp hdtv (we'd used it on our other computer, worked fine) the computer screen was too big for the tv, and the top and sides were cut off. I've tried every screen resolution/aspect ratio and tv display view option combination i could try. I've found one or two that fit nicely, but the computer display shakes nonstop. I've tried rebooting but it doesn't work. The only difference between this computer hookup and our old one is the hdmi port on the dell. We bought this computer because it had the hdmi port for the tv, but i can't make it work is there a reason why the screen resolutions that fit the tv nicely shake? The recommended screen resolution is 1280x720, but it's far too big vertically and horizontally.

Monitor Shuts Off

My computer monitor keeps shutting off on me. I have a dell inspiron b130 (i know it is kinda old) but i don't think its a hardware issue. It has started happening since i installed windows 7. At first i thought it was because my original product key didn't work, but i did the automated phone activation, and validated on the website, but it still shuts off. If i don't use my computer for awhile, it may stay on for a good 20 mins or so, but once it shuts off once, the time it stays on gets less and less. But, i just close the lid and open it back up and it works again. Any ideas as to what is going on?!?
