Dvd Drive Not Recognized Unless Scan For Hardware Changes

I have 2 ide optical drives in my desktop, a sony ddu1612 dvd-rom (cable select in the slave position), and a pioneer dvr-116d dvd-rw (cable select in the master position).

These worked great until i installed windows 7, and actually still work great. The only problem is that each time the computer is booted, the pioneer will not show up until i go into device manager, under dvd/cd-rom drives and "scan for hardware changes" (the sony is always recognized as it should be) - then everything works fine, until i reboot the system.

Is there a permanent way to fix this so that both devices are automatically recognized each boot?

Hardware Not Recognized

I have a simple tech 250 signature mini external hard drive (which is compatible just to plug in and use according to microsoft)that is not working on my new dell studio laptop, the harddrive works on all other computers in my house hold with out windows 7. Been surfing last 3 days on net to try and fix the problem since all my important files from old desktop are on it, thing i have tried :

Updated all drivers that i know about
Updated bios off dell.com
Updated 3 different chipset versions
Tried simple tech for drivers but only have a version for windows 98
Unplugged battery and power supply

Updated windows various times even trying optional updates i thought would affect it. Tried small 2g usb drive and it worked properly, also mouse i am using currently

Note: when drive gets plugged in red light comes on and starts running properly, not a power supply issue. I go to device manager and its there but listed as unknown device, i update drivers and it says all drivers are up to date or not needed for device, the disk is not recognized in disk management.

Saving Scan File As Date And Time Using Win 7 Fax And Scan

A friend has a brother 8840d all-in-one printer. He used to be able to use the scan function on the printer and send the scan in .jpg to the computer running xp with a unique name that had the date and time embedded in the name ie: 111709214200001.jpg.

He doesn't have the windows 7 driver to use the scan function as above but the windows 7 fax and scan viewer will let him scan. Question: is there a way to default win7 fax and scan to save a scan with a name similar to above that would have the date incorporated? I now saves it as img01, img02. I am still running xp so i don't have the ability to check.

Cd/dvd Driver Not Recognized On Win 7

I received a new dell inspiron for christmas with windows 7 and the dvd/cd drive is apparently nonexistent in the software. When placing any disc in the drive it sounds like it is trying to read it, then stops. Under computer , d: is not even listed. Only c: now, on occasion, the computer will recognize the drive and it will work just fine, but not today, and i'm tired of working around that random chance. I attempted to reinstall it, as per the microsoft website instructions, and the drive is not even listed under device manager as the website led me to believe it would be.

Now, disc drives is, but there is no such option upon expanding or right-clicking to uninstall anything, nor does anything under disc drives seem remotely similar to what the website made me think dvd/cd rom drives would look like. So that's my problem. I would just call customer support, but that, uh, costs 60 dollars.

Bios Flash Problem, Dvd Rom Not Recognized

I'm a windows 7 user and i have this problem:my dvd rom is not detected by the computer, it does not boot from dvd when restarted. In bios it's viewed as cd/dvd rom. Before having this problem in bios the dvd rom was appearing as pioneer nr. As the name of the dvd rom is. I forgot to tell you that i'm using a laptop acer 5520g. Bitlocker Message - Do You Want To Scan And Fix Drive

I'm using windows 7 ultimate 32 bit on a 3 drive desktop pc, using bitlocker to encrypt drives d and e. After several weeks without any issues i'm now finding that every time i unlock drive d after booting up i get a message saying there are disk errors and asking me whether i want to scan and fix drive d. Or continue without doing so. If i confirm a scan and fix, the pc will take about 90 minutes to complete the task but then report that no errors are to be found, yet the next time i reboot the machine, exactly the same message appears.

If i continue but ignore the 'error' there's no problem until a scheduled backup to drive e is due, which then fails, telling me it can't backup drive d because there are errors on it:( i've run registry mechanic to fix any registry errors but this hasn't eliminated the problem, and i'm now at a loss to know what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions what steps to take to resolve this?

Cd Drive Error Code 19 - Cannot Start Hardware Device

After installing windows 7, this error appears with my cd drive, windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19). My laptop ran windows xp, and i used the windows 7 compatibility software to see if windows 7 can work with my laptop and it was approved.

Long story short after i installed windows 7 i installed all the drivers the sony esupport told me to, however my cd drive isn't working. When i go to the device manager and click on its properties i get the following error message "windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)". I tried uninstalling the driver and restarting and that didn't fix the problem either.

One Hard Drive Not Recognized

I have 3 drives in the following configuration before installing win 7 rc:

  1. 120gb drive with xp 64 sp2 (used as a c drive)
  2. 120gb drive with vista 64 (used as d drive)
  3. 320gb drive used between them for data (used as e drive). Both oss could see the 320gb drive.

Did a clean win 7 rc install on the vista drive (replacing vista and all). Now, i can not see the "e" data drive when booted in win 7, but when i do a defrag, the defrag program (from accessories) sees the drive though not as a drive letter. Xp64 can still utilize the data drive as well. Please let me know what specific info i need to share with you if necc.

Optical Drive Is Not Being Recognized

I can see it in the bios and everything appears normal. It is visible in windows but only in the drive properties and it has a yellow exclamation mark. The device status says the following: "windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)" error message: code 52

I've tried deleting the drivers then reinstalling them upon restarting my computer, but the same thing happens every time. I don't know of anything that i have changed recently that could have caused this.

Usb Drive Not Recognized After Reboot

I have a windows 7 64-bit system. I connected my maxtor 500gb usb drive while the pc was on and it recognized the drive using the default windows driver. Seagate, which owns maxtor, does not have a 64 bit driver for this drive. Seagate and microsoft say the drive should work with the windows driver. It was working beautifully.

Then i re-booted my system. Upon windows re-start, the drive came up as "usb device not recognized". In device manager it is a yellow icon next to "unknown device". I removed the usb cable and re-plugged it to no avail. I then removed the drive's power cord and plugged it back in. The drive was instantly recognized again.

What is happening on a re-boot to mess up the usb connection? How can this be resolved? I don't want to have to pull the power cord on every re-boot.

Floppy Drive Or Disk Not Recognized

Windows7 ultimate (64 bits) does not recognize a usb-connected floppy drive or disk that works fine with windows xp and, before i installed windows7, that used to work with vista ultimate (64 bits). I can plug this teac drive into another machine, a notebook running windows xp, and there is no problem-i see the six .doc files on the diskette, and i can open all of them. But when the same drive (with the same 3. 5" floppy diskette) is plugged into the window7 machine, i am told to insert the diskette, which is never read.

A speedometer for computer slowly proceeds across the top of the screen, but nothing happens. No matter what i do, i see: "please insert a disk into floppy disk drive (a)". Rebooting does not help. And canceling and reinsertion of the diskette changes nothing. Launching word and then trying to open the files from word's open gets me nowhere. Disabling my anti-virus software changes nothing.

Windows tells me that the floppy drive is installed; i see it listed by name (teac drive) in device manager; and from device manager i have tried deleting the driver for this teac drive-windows then reinstalls it. I also tried to update this drive from device manager, but then i am told: "windows has determined that the driver software for your device is up to date". Please help.

Flash Drive Is Recognized Then Disappears

I bought a lexar twistturn flash drive in december. It has functioned wonderfully with windows xp and vista, but my computer with windows 7 on it has given me problems. The computer is a compaq that came with windows 7 pre-installed. When i plug the flash drive into any of the usb ports, it is recognized and autoplay starts, but about ten seconds after the autoplay window opens, it closes and the flash drive is no longer recognized. This continues in a cycle for as long as i leave
The flash drive plugged in.

I have googled this problem to death, and have found no solution. I also contacted lexar tech support and was told that the problem is likely being caused by the pre-installed drivers. I have checked that my the os is up to date (it is), as well as trying to find drivers to re-install on the manufacturer's website. They may be there somewhere, but i have been unable to find them.
I'm pretty much at the end of my rope with this problem: please help?

Ide Hard Drive (usb 2.0) Not Recognized At Computer Startup

Ide hard drive in external enclosure (usb 2. 0) not recognized by windows 7 at computer startup, but recognized if it is rebooted after windows 7 is done loading. I have a western digital 500gb pata (ide) hard drive in an enclosure. I leave the enclosure on at all times since it has a cooling fan.

However, if for whatever reason i need to reboot my system, windows 7 never recognizes this drive unless i turn off and on my enclosure. Once i reboot my enclosure, windows 7 recognizes the drive and tries to autoplay. I would like w7 to recognize my drive at startup so that i don't have to reboot my enclosure every time i reboot my computer. What can i do to fix this?

Usb Flash Drive Driver Install Failed / Not Recognized

I plugged in a flash drive to my laptop the other day and i got the plug and play message, it downloaded the driver but the installation failed. Now windows 7 will not even recognize that the flash drive is plugged in or try to install the driver again. The flash drive still works on my main computer just fine and other usb devices including other flash drivers work just fine on this laptop. Device manager and computer management under administrative tools do not register it as being plugged in either.

I could not find a way to check if maybe the driver did install and was corrupted. Is there anything i can do?

Usb Flash Drive Error - Volume Does Not Contain Recognized File System

I plugged in my usb flash drive into a computer using windows 7. It always prompts me to scan and fix or cancel. I canceled every time, but i got annoyed with it popping up every time, so i told it to scan and fix. A loading screen came up so i patiently waited. After completion it asks to format my usb flash drive. I can't format it though because i have homework files and all my other personal files on there. So i canceled the format, but every time i plug it into my computer it asks t format it. I even plugged it into a computer running on windows xp and it wanted to format it.

When i try to run it without formatting it it says, "e: is not accessible. The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted. " My question is, what did windows 7 do to my flash drive and how do i recover my data?

Usb Flash Drive - Usb Device Is Not Recognized

I have tried 4 different usb flash drives from different manufacturers and my usb hard drive from western digital. Windows 7 recognizes it until i start transferring files. Then it can't find the drive. When i unplug it and plug it back in, i get a notification that the usb device is not recognized. After i restart the computer, it does the same thing all over again. I ran vista before windows 7 and never had this problem. I am very frustrated. I must have access to my flash & external drives or windows 7 is useless to me.

Fixing Cd/dvd Drive

My cd drive has been missing for several weeks, and do not know exactly when it disappeared. I went through the deleting upper and lower filters as most places say, then rebooting, and it didn't help. I have created a new reg file and merged, and that brought the drives back, but they did not show that a cd was in. It has since disappeared again, and i do not have lowerfilters.

I have tried system restore, but i always get an error code because it "cannot access the file". I have updated the firmware from the dell website, and ran several different virus scans. Itunes and my computer say the drive is missing, but device manager says it is functioning correctly and completely updated. My dvd drive is there, it is only the cd drive. I am running windows 7, and have a dell inspiron 1750.

Also, i checked my brothers computer, who has the same set-up, and his registry files are all identical to mine, and his drive works just fine.

My dvd drive disappeared even though i stopped making virtual dvd drives for iso images. Sorry for bad spelling. When i want to make a partition rpc server is unavailable. Dvd drive is not in device manager. The hardware and devices troubleshooter thinks i have no dvd drive. I have no iso imaging programs now but i need one.

Dvd-rw Drive Disappeared

I install a antivirus software in my laptop and then suddenly my dvd-cd-rw drive disappear. I have a vista premium and after i understand that the antivirus is for window xp. I don't see the driver when i go in to my computer. In the device manager there is no dvd drive. There is "a" drive and i uninstall the software and restart my computer twice; but the dvd-cd-rw drive did not come back.

I then reboot my computer, lost everything, the software came only that day and did not work properly because it only work with a cd not a dvd. But by the next day it gone again. So i don't wont to reboot my computer again because it will eliminate 10gb of my hard disk space. So my question is whats next?

Cd/dvd Drive Has Gone Missing

I have a new computer with windows 7 professional 64 bit and everything was fine but now my cd/dvd drive has gone missing. It's nowhere to be found in explorer and if i insert a cd or dvd nothing happens. I tried the troubleshooter but it tells me i don't have a cd/dvd drive. It's also not listed in device manager. I'm a complete non-techie type of person but was wondering if my drive has just gone kaput or maybe one of the leads internally has become disconnected. The computer is only about 3 months old. I have done all the updates that have been recommended. I would love it if someone could give me some ideas about fixing this.
