Media Center Dual Monitor Multi Seat Setup

I am trying to configure my media center pc to work with two monitors, one is my tv, the other is a standard pc monitor. In this way i am hoping to use media center on the tv and surf and play on the other screen at the same time. I have encountered two problems. 1. Media center will not let me select a different sound card from default. Some applications including i believe windows media player will let you do this. 2. Media center when made full screen captures the mouse and keyboard. I hope i can get around this with a media center remote to control the tv while i use the mouse and keyboard on the other screen.

I can take back control with the windows key, but i have to give back control to use media center. Hopefully with the remote i can control media center while keeping control of the keyboard and mouse. I am reading this may or may not work. Ideally i would hope that microsoft could address these issues, as they seem rather trivial and would enable our over powered multi-core pc's to be more useful, its a waste for all that power just to watch tv. I have been assured on multiple forums that microsoft does not care and will do nothing to fix this.

This is an unfortunate sentiment to have in the community and i challenge microsoft to prove them wrong. Seeing as i have had great luck reporting issues to apple and having them fixed within a reasonable time, i thought i might give it a shot with microsoft and see if i had any luck. Is this the best way to contact microsoft about these issues? Are there other contacts i can try? I would love to be able to select a playback device in media center other then the default as well as being able to control media center with the remote while maintaining separate keyboard control. Please make this happen microsoft and prove your customers wrong, that you do care.

Media Center In Dual Monitor / Tv Setup

I'm trying to setup a htpc using windows 7. What i'd like to accomplish is to have a dual monitor/tv setup where wmc is running on one monitor and xbmxc is running on the other. However it doesn't seem like i able to run both programs at the same time, each on it's own monitor/tv. Whenever i change to full screen mode, one of them goes blank. Is there something in windows 7 that prevents me from running two directx programs in fullscreen mode at the same time?

The pc i'm using is configured with two ati graphics card connected to the tv using hdmi.

Cannot Move Windows From One Monitor To Other - Dual Monitor Setup

I have two monitors of the same resolution connected to an ati radeon hd 4300/4500 video card. In windows 7 extended mode i see a full working desktop on one monitor, but only the background picture on the other - the four-square flag motif again a blue background with wispy lines, butterfly etc.

No taskbar, icons or anything else. On one occasion briefly the mouse cursor appeared on it instead of on the full desktop image. If i try to drag a window on to the second monitor it won't go there. The settings are landscape with two mointors "1" and "2". I have two images but how can i use the second one?

Snap Feature Does Not Work On Inside Of Dual Monitor Setup

I have windows 7 home premium x64 fully updated. So far it's great. But i have two monitors, primary 1440x900 and secondary 1280x1024 with the secondary monitor on the right of the primary monitor. When i try to "snap" a window to the edge of either monitor that is next to the other monitor, nothing happens. I was wondering if this was a typical problem people were having or if it was just me and if there was any way to make it work or if there was a patch for it. (Google chrome's built-in "snap" feature can use the inside of the monitors).

Media Center Causes Blank Monitor

I am using windows 7 as an htpc hooked up to a 42 inch plasma tv. I have media center set to open on start-up at which point everything works great. I will occasionally close or minimize media center in order to check email on the machine. When i try to go back into media center my screen goes completely blank about 70% of the time. Minimizing vs a full close/open of media center doesn't seem to matter. Ctrl-alt-del or alt-tab don't work either. My only solution is to do a hard reset. Is there anyone else out there with this same issue?

Media Center Keeps Opening In Secondary Monitor

I am using windows 7 professional 32 bit. Windows media center keeps opening in my secondary monitor and capturing the mouse. I want it to open in the primary monitor. How can i do this? It's very frustrating. I have set my primary monitor as the "preferred" monitor in wmc preferences, that's the only preference i can see. Video card is 7300 gt and latest driver.

Monitor Loses Signal In Media Center

Running windows 7 rc on a dell dimension e521. Runs great, except for the odd thing that has been happening lately. Randomly, while watching tv through windows media center, i'll hear the sound that usually plays when a usb cable is unplugged, and then my monitor will lose its signal. There is no way to get the signal back, as i've tried unplugging and replugging the monitor in, both power and dvi. Ive tried ctrl+alt+del. I usually have to hard restart, and then my monitor comes back on when the bios screen comes on. I want to say its a driver issue, but it happens so randomly, i just cant tell what it is. Any guesses?

Multi Monitor Spanning

I put this under hardware and drivers because it pertains to the functionality of windows with hardware, more specifically video cards and monitors. We in the it department are evaluating windows 7 currently (skipped vista because of functional needs) and in our tests we came across this problem. Granted we can drag the windows open across the monitors or manually set the window size, but this to us is an extreme problem as we would have to instruct all of those users on how they can achieve this goal.

Why is this an issue? We have a good number of people and workstations/laptops (well over 5, 000 currently). All of these use excell and about 30% use visio. Currently in xp, when a spreadsheet/document is opened (more for excel spreadsheets) the user double clicks the top window bar to maximize it and it fills both monitors (no need to drag it open or set the window resolution). This function is not available in later operating systems as i have found out. I actually have two questions, and though i doubt i will receive a cognizant answer, i will ask them.

1 " why was this feature removed from later productions?

2 " is there an effort to re-institute this feature in later windows versions?

I know windows vista/7 (as i read) will not have this ability, but i need to know if this will become part of the next generation. As it is i will have a very hard time explaining this to people that use our board room with 2 x 2 displays on the wall without having to expend more money for something that was at one time a feature of the windows environment.

Bug - Multi Monitor And Apps

I have 2 monitors.

Master monitor (left)
Secondary monitor (right)

I moved office and for cable length reason i changed the secondary monitor to be on the left. I set windows 7 to tell it that the secondary monitor is now on the left not the right.

Previous apps that i've used on the second monitor seem to default in the past to always loading on the screen on the right. Now when i open them application i can only see them in the task bar, they do not appear on screen. If i tell windows 7 my secondary monitor is on the right, i can then see the application on that screen.

This is a bug, windows should know that the secondary monitor is no longer connected on the right and it should not be loading the application window to a monitor that does not exist.

Multi Monitor System Issue With Cursor

Touching the touchscreen monitor causes the cursor to appear on a different monitor in a windows 7 multi-monitor system. There are three (3) monitors on this system. Two of them are dell 2407wfp-hc lcd monitors and one is the acer t230h touchscreen monitor. The dell monitors are connected to an nvidia quadro fx3500 and identify as monitors 1 and 2. The acer monitor is connected to an nvidia geforce 7600gs and identifies as monitor 3. The system is running windows 7 ultimate x64, with current updates. Everything works properly except for the touchscreen feature.

As instructed i used tablet pc setup to configure the touchscreen. In setup, dell monitor 2 reports incorrectly as having touch input available, and the acer monitor 3 reports as not having touch input available - also incorrect. When i touch the acer monitor, the cursor appears on dell monitor 2 and moves according to the motion of my finger on the acer monitor.

Dual Monitor Problem - 2nd Monitor Detected Black

Ok, so i have a dell that was running vista and two monitors. When i upgraded to windows 7 pro i ran into the infamous black screen problem and fixed it. However, i only fixed my main monitor. When i open the display window, both of my monitors are detected but my secondary monitor shows a black screen and the monitor itself says there is no signal detected from my pc.

The strange thing is my pc thinks its working (i can drag a window from my working monitor towards the black one and it moves out of my working monitor into the black screen). I currently have both of them plugged in using a dvi to vga splitter and i have also updated the drivers by clicking the "update driver" button in the monitor properties window. Please help if you can!

Using 2 Mice With Dual Monitors Setup

Is it possible to use 2 mice when dual monitors is setup? 2 mice with 2 cursors*premise:my partner and i have a home theater pc in the making with 2 monitors set up. We use one monitor for basic computing -web browsing, word processing, etc. The other we use for media and video streaming.

Problem: we both want to utilize the varied functions at the same, but constantly run into "sharing the mouse". We've tried setting up hot button keys on our iphones with mixed results. Solution:i think the problem would be solved simply by being able to install two mice on our system, each having its own cursor, but i cannot find a "software" solution. Question:is there anything i can do to windows 7 that will allow me to achieve two separate mice, each with its own cursor?

Xp On Separate Drive To Win 7, Setup Dual Boot

This is my first time on the forum and even though i know a little about computers i could certainly use some advice & assistance here. Presently i have xp pro installed on a 500gb drive(which is partitioned) and i have a 750gb drive that i will be installing windows 7 pro(which again is partitioned)onto. My question is thus: how can i make a dual boot with xp & w7.

These are my specs: drive "c" has xp installed with a partition("d"). Then i have a separate disk with drive "e" which is empty with a partition("f")also empty. Then i have "g" & "h" as my 2 dvd/cd burners. Lastly i have an an external wd my book essential which is drive "j" and the smartware is showing as drive "i". Soin 'my computer' there are drives c, d, e, f, g, h, i &j. I am running a gigabyte ep45t-extreme m/b with 4gb of 1333mhz ddr3 corsairram, performance is by the intel core2duoe8500
Chip(3. 16ghz).

I do not want to have both xp & w7 on the same disk, rather on 2 separate drives. Since i have xp pro already installed as "c" drive how can i make "e"the other os for dual boot. Remember that "e" is on a separate drive. I did have it set up as a dual boot before but my little tacker played his game and things went haywire, so therefor me & all my wisdom decided that i could get it back to normal and yep, you guessed it, i absolutely stuffed it up even more.

Can somebody be so kind and inform me as to how i can make my system a dual-boot once again ?. If you can then i will be eternally grateful. I look forward to hearing from you.

Dual Monitor

Is there any option available with using dual monitor in a "stretched" view instead of extended? What i'm trying to do is run 1 application over my 2 monitors in full screen mode. So far i haven't found anything that would make this possible. I can extend and i can enlarge a window over 2 monitors but i can't really use a resolution of ~3200 * 1050 for example. This was possible under xp but neither vista or windows 7 i can get this to work.

I've tried searching the forums but alas i have not found an answer for this. If someone can find a topic already covering this sorry for double posting. But mostly i found extending and not really stretching it over 2 screens.

Dual Monitor Help

Dell couldn't seem to solve my problem, so i'm desperately in need of help. I have a dell inspiron 580, i3 processors. The machine has one vga output, and hdmi. I want to run two monitors, so dell informed me to buy a second vid card. I did, installed a raedon jd2600 pro 512mb with two dvi connections and one dvi adapter. I hooked both monitors up, and it will either run one monitor on the ati card, or one on the intel card, but i cannot extend the display. I was on the dell support line for over an hour, and  they told me to just go buy another dvi adapter and plug it in. So if that's true, i cant run two cards?

Dual Monitor Support

I got windows 7 professional rtm through msdn. I have a 19" samsung and a 26" samsung monitor (t260hd and 941bw). When i start windows 7 with both monitors attached, it boots on both monitors, then goes black at the login screen. If i boot with either monitor plugged in solo, it works fine. Last, if i start with one, then plug the second one in on the fly, it automatically defaults to my 19"- the display manager shows both as active, and i can drag windows over to the invisible second desktop- but i can't see it. I installed the latest nvidia drivers for my 7600gt and installed the drivers that come with both monitors. I'm out of ideas. Can you guys help me out?

Issue With Dual Monitor

I have an i7 machine running windows 7 - 32. It has an nvidia 9400 gt video card and i am having an issue when i open word or notepad in the second monitor. Once i maximize the program on the second monitor, the mouse becomes unresponsive when in the primary monitor. If i manage to move the mouse back to the second monitor, the problem stops and as soon as i move the application to the main monitor the problem stops also. I am baffled about this issue since i have never seen anything like this. I have all the latest drivers for my hardware and all of them are for windows 7.

Win 7 Dual Monitor Issues

I'm running windows 7 ultimate 64-bit on a dell latitude notebook computer. When it is docked i have dual external monitors. My primary monitor is dvi and the secondary monitor is vga. Recently i have noticed that my primary display is darker than my secondary display. I checked my brightness and contrast controls on both monitors and they are set properly. The weird part is that my mouse pointer is the same brightness on both monitors, but the applications and desktop appear to be faded on my primary monitor. What would cause this? What settings should i check?

Win 7 Dual Monitor Issue

Weird issue. Before upgrading to windows 7 i have two 19inch monitors i use, they worked brilliant at 1440x900 res. There are same in everyway (no sure on make or model) the issue is, when i upgraded to windows 7 and wanted to setup duel monitors one monitor was fine at the 1440x900 res but the other one was not allowing me to go higher then 800x600 plus windows 7 description of the monitor was 17inch? Now first thing was to of course check drivers. So i did i am running a 9600gso nvi. So i made sure i have windows 7 (64bit) drivers installed. Tried this twice. Tried using the normally windows drivers. No luck. Next thing was to uninstall generic pnp monitors. Tried that and no luck.

Next thing i tried was to plug the monitor having the issue in on its own. This allowed me to get 1440/900 but when linking second monitor up, didn't detect anything, restarted the computer and same issue as before.

Dual Monitor, Unable To Save Error

I have had windows 7 installed on my computer for a few months. I use a hp pavioion zd8000 laptop. I also have a lg w2242to flatscreen monitor. In the past, extending my monitor was easy and worked just as described for windows 7. Recently i detached my laptop to go to a meeting. When i returned i hooked up my monitor and i now get an "unable to save" message when i try to extend my monitor. I can use one or the other monitor, but not both.

I have uninstalled the monitor driver and tried system restore with no success. Is there something that can be done so that both monitors can be functional at the same time again.

My graphics card is an ati readon x600 which has worked fine with the two monitors under xp and for a few months under win7. I did uninstall the driver for the graphics card too and reinstalled, but that did not help.

Fn Keys On Win 7 And Vga With Dual Monitor

Okay so i just installed windows 7 last night and was looking forward to plugging in my laptop (hp latitude d600) into my 32" lcd in my room via a vga cable. Which worked on my previous os of windows xp. However it is now not working when i plug the cables in and i can't find where to tell the computer to use the vga link. On top of all that i tried using fn f8 to solve that problem to make it go crt/lcd but my fn keys are now not functioning. I googled it and used the hotfix they provided but that also did not work. Ideas?

Dell 540 Dual Monitor Video Driver Issue

I upgraded to windows 7 64 bit from vista 64 bit on my dell 540 studio desktop. I have dual monitors. I downloaded the recommend driver from the dell site but system keeps shutting down. At first i was getting critical message "no suitable graphics card" found. If i rebooted, everything would work ok. I tried working with microsoft support on multiple occasions and this is still "unresolved". Now my second monitor won't stay on. Keeps going in analog save mode! What do i do next? I had no problems with vista! Dell offered to help if i paid another $200.

Can't Use Dual Monitor With Win 7 64-bit Geforce 9800gt

This has been an unsolved issue for me since i installed windows 7 last year. I've read numerous articles, none of which have solved the problem. I have windows 7 64-bit installed on a core 2 duo 2. 2 ghz, 2gb ram, and using a geforce 9800gt video card.

Problem: as soon as i connect a second monitor (dvi to hdmi or dvi to vga) the original monitor goes black and there is no display on the 2nd, newly connected, display. If i disconnect the second display, the 1st monitor remains black until restart. Note: i had both connected during the original install and the install could not finish as the monitors went blank, so i had to reinstall with only 1 monitor connected.

I have the latest nvidia drivers installed and all critial updates installed. How can this be solved?

Media Center

What do i need to do to get media center to remember where i stop or pause a dvd when i'm unable to watch the entire movie in one sitting? I can pause the movie, and either shut down or "sleep" the computer, but when i restart the computer and start media center to watch the dvd where i left off, the dvd starts from the beginning. Is there something i can do in the "setup" screens to force media center to resume the dvd where i left off at?

Help With Media Center

I am currently running windows 7 and have windows media center where i watch and enjoy tv shows. Unfortunately, my cable company, comcast, has required that customer will have to use a digital adapter in order to continue watching. With the adapter, i have to keep windows media center on channel 3 and control the channel with the remote that came with the adapter.

Due to this change, it is more difficult to record tv shows in windows media center. I really enjoy the way this version of windows media center records and files the shows. But, with this digital adapter i cannot.

I have a hp compute with an external hp tv tuner. The comcast digital adapter does have an "ir in" hole where i can connect an ir something into it. My ir receiver that i got with the computer has 2 holes in the back. Not sure what to do. I would like to configure the system where i can use windows media center like i did before the comcast digital adapter came into my life.

Media Center And Two Monitors

Current setup: using two monitors on my laptop (built-in and external display). Running windows 7 professional 64-bit

Problem: i watch movies/netflix/media center on my external display. When watching movies, my laptop screen just displays whatever was left on it for the entire time.

Solution? Without having to close my laptop, is there a way to make the un-used screen turn off while watching a movie? Either some sort of plugin/application, or maybe a setting in windows or media center? I've just been letting it stay on for now, but i don't want my laptop screen to get burned in.

Windows Media Center

I have windows 7 and enjoy watching tv programs from my pc with the use of windows media center. However, our local cable tv company (comcast) has it now where all customers are required to have a digital box in order to watch many of the channels they provide. After hooking up the digital cable box, i set my media center to channel 3 and all is well. I can watch what ever.

However, if i schedule to record a tv program, the media center will change the channel to the channel that i am recorded. Hence, changing the channel from 3 to whatever the show i am recorded. Sadly, if media center is not on channel 3, then i can not watch anything nor record anything.

Is there a way around this where i can still record by using windows media center along with the digital box that is required.

Media Center Issues

I have a clean install of 64-bit win 7 home premium. After i imported about 20 albums from my music file, it slowed to a crawl and was virtually unusable. I was instructed to turn the media center program off and then back on. While it helped somewhat, i cannot play any music without a 1 to 2 minute wait and i no longer have the media center sounds when it's loading or moving between screens. If i try some of the pre-installed media, the sound is fine.

Sound is fine outside media center. I can also move around in the other sections, just not the music. I would like to manage my music and video libraries within media center, but i hesitate to bring in any videos after the issues with the music. All my music is legal, just in case that might be an issue. I'd also like my media center sounds back - i assume i'm missing the codecs.

Any suggestions aside from reinstalling win 7?

I built the computer with:
64-bit win 7 home premium
Core 2 duo wolfdate 8400 @3. 0 ghtz
4 gb ram
Nvidia geforce gtx 260
Creative sb xfi extreme gamer
500 gb wd hard drive
