Ie8 Hang Ups And Memory Hogging

I have a dell inspiron e1505, using vista home basics. I loaded  norton virus 2010 2 1/2 weeks ago, updating my expired norton program. I downloaded ie 8 approx. 3 weeks ago. And ie is constantly hanging and closing and stalling and sputtering. I am currently showing 214, 220 k of memory use on my task manager. I have trouble with adobe 9, also, which i have downloaded several times and it says installation failed. I cleared/deleted all the shortcuts and so called program icons from my desktop. I don't need microsoft security if i have norton.

I read the threads related to ie 8 from the savvy, experienced developers. I'm not the only one. Users exponentially more knowledgeable than i are having problems.microsoft's responses sound like zombie automotons (sorry. But very frustrating).microsoft - please own up to the problem, figure out the fix and email users of your forum (you have our email addresses) and others a simple solution. Ie 8 doesn't play well with others in my or other sandboxes.

Network Connection Hang Ups

Windows 7 professional 64 bit network connection hangs up at random everyday. Using sony vaio all in one desktop. Suffering hang ups connecting wirelessley and wired. It happens during simple saves and loads.network printers also loses ability to print from same computer (sometimes during the print process. ) Other computers on same network using xp do not have any issues. Using server 2008. Sony customer service connected to my computer and after 2 hours of trouble shooting stated that problem is with network connection, but can not be because other computers not suffering same problem. So problem must be with windows 7 professional.

File Downloads From Ie8 Hang

When in ie8 and trying to download a file it will usually stop downloading prior to completion. Sometimes only a little bit gets downloaded before hanging. Other times i'll get close to half the file before it stops making download progress. This happens when trying a right click "save target as"in my first install of windows 7 professional 64 i saw this problem so i reinstalled windows 7 (clean install) and started to track this problem. After the reinstall of windows 7, i tried a "save target as" before anything else was installed or configured and noted that the download failed.

Web pages display, but downloads fail. I then loaded the chipset drivers, lan drivers, audio drivers, etc. Downloads still failed. The problem is clearly not related to any conflict with other 3rd party or other microsoft software on the system. I followed the various instructions (registry updates and trying to download in the virtual xp environment) in:

http://social. Answers.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/w7network/thread/862e0808-9929-4803-b2e0-8ab04580cf11/ and unlike others had no success in the xp environment.

I then followed the directions from (tools > internet options > connections > lan settings > untick everything at the top):

http://social. Answers.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/w7network/thread/104e4f47-9968-4095-932b-bc451cdd4800and still had no success.

I then went to the lan chip vendor's website (realtek) and downloaded and installed the very latest drivers, and still had no success. I loaded a 3rd party download manager and can download some files, but not with 100% success. The download manager (dap) would quickly download part of a file and then appear to hang as well, but would usually pick back up and quickly download another segment of the file and stop again, but keep going like this until the file was downloaded.

Also tried a second new motherboard of the same model with the same result so i don't think it's the hardware. Ny new ideas/solutions?

Ie8 Memory Leak

I recently upgraded to ie8 and after a few minutes of browsing i receive a message that my computer is low on memory. When i check task manager there are at least two instances of iexplorer running, although i have only one browser window open with multiple tabs. Each instance of iexplorer is using upwards of 40, 000 k, my computer then starts to act up slowing down everything. I do not get this problem when running other browsers (google chrome), and didn't have it with ie7. Any suggestions?

Memory Leak In Ie8

I'm on xp professional sp3. I have 2gb ram. I installed ie8 a couple of months ago, and love it, except for one thing. I watch video online at netflix. Since installing ie8, in as little as an hour, the video cuts off and i receive a message (from netflix) that there isn't enough memory to continue. I can close the browser and open a new session, and go back in, but that's a big pain right in the middle of everything.

After one such instance i looked in task manager, and saw that ie was using a ridiculous amount of memory, with 1, 403, 828k listed on one line, and 14, 320k on another, though only one browser window was open.

I have 249gb free on my hard drive, at present. I checked the virtual memory when this problem first occurred and switched it to allow the system to manage the size. It has 2045 mb allocated for the paging file (though the recommended amount is 3067 mb), and this does not seem to change, even with the out-of-memory errors on netflix; it remains at 2045.

The interesting thing is that i did not have this problem with ie7, though i hear it had more problems with memory leakage. I have also tried watching the netflix videos in firefox, and do not have memory problems there (after 2 hours, it only used ~150, 000k), so it isn't a netflix issue. Nor have i experienced any other problems with ie 8 or memory; only when watching videos online at netflix.

I've tried looking up info generally on the internet, but only find a lot of developer info on detecting leaks; nothing about how to fix this (at least that i can understand or am willing to do on my own).

Memory Leak In Ie8 When Using Js

We have recently released a javascript based version for some parts of our web app and our customers are complaining about ie8 getting slower through out the day to the point that it becomes unresponsive and they have to restart it or even reboot the machines. Upon investigation, we found that the memory usage in ie8 increases by 20m or more each time one of the new js based pages is unloaded. The flow to see this issue it simple: from a static web page we load a page which renders the html using javascript.

Then, the page is unloaded and the previous static html page is reloaded. I can provide a url and details to someone that might help. I am able to repro this issue on windows xp sp3, with ie8. I have ran windows update recently, i also ran ie8 without add-ons and reset its advanced settings as instructed here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

Pop Ups

I keep getting a really annoying pop up. "Insurance-car". I tried shutting off the pop up's but it's still coming back. The annoying part is that the only way i can close it is to go to the windows task manager. I click on the pop up "x" and the program just "dings" (makes a noise). Any ideas on how to find this thing and shut if off. Please reply to email removed for privacy. Also, my ie explorer seems to have gone away. I click on it and the screen goes to the home page but then it disappears and the desk top comes back. All this since i've started getting the ms downloads. Please help. '

Usb Connection To Ups During Sleep

How to maintain usb connection to usb ups during sleep (win 7 64)? Still no answer to vexing problem with system losing connection to ups during sleep. Brand new desktop (dell studio xps 8100; intel core i-7 860 @ 2. 8 ghz; win 7 ult 64; 8 gb ram; ati radeon hd 5770, etc). Brand new apc back ups xs1300lcd w/power chute personal edition v. 2. 2. (Win7 compatible).

As with my older vista ult sp2 (32-bit) system, sleep cuts power to usb devices, including the ups.
So, if a power outage were to occur during sleep, the apc software could not perform its managed system shutdown. That defeats the purpose of having the ups with its shutdown software.

Ts at my computer maker (dell) and at apc have been unhelpful. The only viable "workaround" in vista was to implement a power plan that never put the hdd to sleep. Not a very good solution, but at least it allowed the ups shutdown software to do its job in the event of a power outage.

Apparently, this is the only workaround for win 7, as well. Or is it? If i disable usb selective suspend in the settings for a power plan that does put the hdd to sleep, will this or will this not resolve the issue and allow the computer to maintain power to (and the connection with) the ups during sleep? I am not overly computer savvy, but i hope there *is* a more satisfying solution to this problem. I have posted to these forums several times in recent weeks, but never seem to get a reply.

Ie7 Blank Pop Ups When Opening A File

I am a tech services employee, and i have a very interesting situation with one of our users here. Originally, the problem was that when the user would go to download a file from an internet site (usually, it was an office document), ie would freeze and crash on him. We decided to upgrade him to version 7 of ie (ie 8 at this time is not approved for installation on our corporate pcs because they are not compatible with some of our web applications).

The installation was successful, and the user is able to download and open the documents from the internet, however, when he does, and extra blank window appears and does not automatically go away. It's more of an inconvenience at this point, but i was wondering if this issue can be fixed?

Flickering Pop-ups Reset Themselves Every Couple Seconds

I just installed windows 7 ultimate and installed all the latest drivers for my machine. The problem i'm having is that all windows-related windows and popups reset themselves every couple seconds. If you do nothing, they just sit there and flicker but if you try to drag a window around it resets to its original position. Pop up menus like the network connections are almost impossible to use in this state because they disappear almost instantly after you click on them. This appears to only affect system windows because programs like firefox and nvidia display manager work perfectly with zero flickering or problems of any kind.

Like i said, all drivers are up to date and the only other software installed is firefox. If anyone else has seen this problem and knows a solution, i would really appreciate your help.

Hang During Profile Logoff

On occasion when i perform a logoff from a secondary profile under windows 7 the pc hangs. The logoff seems to work, but then either windows or the pc hang. I've tried alt ctrl delete with no success. I dont hear any disk activity, but that doesn't mean anything. I have to power the pc off manually, wait a minute then power it back on. Sometimes it asks how to restart windows and sometimes it performs a normal startup. The pc is an hp pavilion pc6230y. Anyone have a similar issue?

Login Hang After Remote Desktop

I'm seeing a strange hang with using my new windows 7 ultimate (64-bit) machine together with remote desktop. The steps i'm going through are the following:

1.configured the win7 machine to enable remote desktop.

2.connect to the win7 machine using remote desktop from my xp machine (same subnet). At this point, everything is working fine and i can operate the win7 machine correctly from the xp machine.

3. Disconnect from the win7 machine by selecting "disconnect" from the start menu. This closes down remote desktop on the xp machine.

4. Try to reconnect to the win7 machine using remote desktop or
5. Try to log in on the console of the win7 machine.

Neither 4 nor 5 work if i have ever connected to the machine using remote desktop. For #4, remote desktop hangs for a little while and then disappears, as if it's connection was established and then dropped. No error appears. For #5, the console just sits at the "welcome" page with the little spinning busy icon, as if it is hung trying to load setting prior to displaying the desktop.

In either case, the only option to regain access to the machine appears to be to power off the system (losing data). The system is otherwise completely unresponsive. I don't see any of this instability if i don't use remote desktop.connecting on console normally otherwise always works. Any ideas for how to resolve this, or if (when) a hotfix is going to be available?

Flash Causing Internet Browsers To Hang

This has been an ongoing issue and i am so sick of it. Flash content is constantly causing any internet browser i use to hang. My main browser is firefox. It mostly happens with flash video like on youtube. Sometimes it works fine for a while and then all of a sudden when i go to play a new video the browser will hang. When the browser hangs i will no longer be able to watch videos unless the computer is restarted. When the browser hangs it also affects windows too.

I can't even play videos on wmp, it would hang too. It only happens if the browser was hanged. I always get the hang errors when it happens in firefox but i have no idea how to use them. I have made dump files too when it happens but i do not have a clue how to use them. (Something about signature files or something)

Have several users we have just upgraded to windows 7 pro, all clean installs. Some are having issues with excel 2003 hanging up when trying to open spreadsheets. Myself, i keep having access 2010 hang when trying to open databases. My own personal computer at home, just bought a new sony vaio with win7 home and photoshop hangs when trying to open a picture to edit. I find it very strange that different computer types, different os types and different programs, all have the same issue. Only thing in common. Windows 7. Any ideas?

Repartition Memory Stick / Memory Card

How to repartition a memory stick or a memory card? So, i bought an 8 gb memory card and figured i could create a couple or a few partitions on it; perhaps exfat and fat32 ones. I fired up the disk management program only to find out that the flash memory disk has the shrink/extend/delete volume controls greyed out. I did manage to shrink the volume using the disk-part command line program but couldn't use it either for creating new volumes.

Where does this seemingly ridiculous and pointless restriction stem from? I only found a couple of instructions on how to partition a memory stick using some shady third party programs.

Installed Memory Versus Available Memory

I have installed windows 7 64 bit as a clean install on a second disk in a system with windows vista 32-bit running on the 1st disk. The install went fine, and the system is running well. However, when i check the system resources i am told that there is 4 gb of memory installed but only 3. 49 gb available. Is this because i have the windows vista disk in the system. The mbr shows both systems are bootable, and the windows boot file and winload.exe are located on the vista disk drive.

This leads me to believe that i have inherited the 32-bit memory restriction on windows vista. On another system, a new laptop that came with windows 7 64bit pre- installed, also with 4 gb memory, the system resources show that there is 4 gb of memory, without any restriction on what is available.

Win 7 64-bit Doesn't Distinguish Between Ie8 64-bit And Ie8 32-bit

Windows 7 64bit doesn't distinguish between ie8 64 bit and ie8 32 bit when attempting to set a default browser using the control panel default programs 'associate' utility. My new windows 7 64 bit pc (luv that i7 920 intel cpu) came installed with both ie8-64 bit and ie8-32 bit (nothing more need be said regarding the absurdity of having to deal with this in the first place - i should have gone with the imac).

Anyway, ie64 bit lacks the flash player cuz adobe hasn't released a 64 bit version yet, per their website. So i can't use ie64 with xm online music stream (et al). Ie32, on the other hand, supports flash player, but won't successfully link to various embedded hypertext links, such as those embedded in an email. My initial solution was to use firefox, which served me well until an application from a local vendor will only work with internet explorer. Sigh.

I've used windows since version 2 back in the 1980s, have become stoic, and can emotionally cope with having to use 3 browsers to get the job done.

However, just for fun, my current burning question is, with two different versions of ie8 (64 bit and 32 bit) installed into windows 7, why doesn't the control panel default applications utility seem to aware of the fact that there are indeed two different versions installed? It lists firefox and internet explorer, but does not differentiate between the two flavors of ie. My goal was to set ie8 64 bit as the default browser temporarily to accommodate the vendor's application.

Fyi, by setting the default, i refer to: control panel | default programs | associate a file type or protocol with a program. Then scroll down to 'http' and click on the change program button. So in my case, firefox and only one instance of internet explorer, with no bit distinction, display as selection options.

Memory Used Up

I have a dell mini 9 with 7. 07 gb capacity. I need to reload mc afee and there is not enough room. I am using 6. 95gb with 121 mb free. A lot of the usage is for 2 items - microsoft.net framework2. O, service pack 2 (183 mb) and framework 3. 0 using 179 mb. There are only 3 games on there using very little space - even if i deleted them, the mcafee wouldn't have enough room. Is there some way to reduce the size of these files, delete them, or do something so i can reload mcafee? I have cleaned, defragged, everything else i could find to help. Any more suggestions?

Memory Issues

I have a dell e510, 3. 0g ht processor, geforce 8400 video, . I had to install win 7 64 with just 2gigs of ram. After the install i added in another 2g of ram. It booted up and is working fine except its showing 4gigs with 3. 25 usable. I installed another gig of memory for a total of 5gig, (which my bios shows properly), but win 7 wont boot with the extra gig. So the 2 questions are, why is it only showing 3. 25 usable? Is that a vid card memory thing? And 2, why won't it take the other gig of memory when the bios recognizes it fine?

Memory Leak

Hi guys, ok so for the last few weeks i've been trying to fix this but i cant and now im all out of ideas so im hoping someone here will be able to. The problem occurs when im installing a game, after a minute or two while its installing my memory usage will start increasing and it does this all the way up to 99% where it will sit until i reboot my pc.

Now this only happens when i install a game, i can do anything else and its fine ie play games, encode videos, move files etc etc all fine. Right, things ive tried so far. First thing i did was open task manager and see what was using up the memory unfortunately there wasn't anything there that was using it even so i still shut down every single process and it still was at 99% memory usage (btw this takes forever to do when your memory is maxed out).

I tried running sfc/scannow (nothing wrong), next thing i did was run memtest 86+ all night (10 hours) no errors. After that i ran prime95 blend test all night (10 hours) no errors, then i ran disk doctor on all my hdds and fixed any problems it found. After all that didn't help i decided to format my pc and start afresh so i reinstalled vista 64 thinking this has got to fix it, but no it didn't. This all just happened out of the blue after my system was running fine for nearly a year.

Missing Memory

Where is my missing 1gb of ram? I have just purchased an acer asipre r3610 4gb ram with windows 7 home premium 64 bit os. I have read on the web that on a 64 bit os i should get the full 4gb of ram is this correct? Msinfo32 advises me i have installed physical memory (ram) 4gb but then says total physical memory is 3gb. I have spent numerous hours reading the web looking for answers.

My bios correctly reports i have 4096 mb of ram. Msconfig "advanced options" the "maximum memory" is unticked. After checking in resource monitor, i found that 1025mb of ram was "hardware or bios reserved". My inbuilt video card nvidia ion (latest drivers 195. 62), nvidia graphics utility tells me it has 256mb dedicated video memory, 64 mb system memory and 1215 mb shared memory.

I can only assume that this 1025mb ram that is "hardware or bios reserved" is part of the 1215 mb that my graphics card reports is being shared. How can i stop my graphics card from reserving 1025mb ram. Is this something to do with my bios or the way windows 7 handles/assigns memory?

I have read on the web that on a 64 bit os i should get the full 4gb of ram is this correct? I also believe that http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/display/graphicsmemory. Mspx says that turning it off shared mvideo memory in the bios doesnt disable the windows feature. Is this correct?

Not Able To Use All Of Installed Memory

I have recently did a fresh install of windows 7 64-bit. I upgraded from windows vista 32-bit edition. Here's the problem.

Before i upgraded i had all my current hardware running on my vista os with no problems with the memory. I had 3gb and was able to access and use 3gb. After i installed windows 7 my memory was still fine. It showed 3gb and didn't not report that any less was only usable. This morning i log onto world of warcraft and notice everything running slow. After i installed windows 7 it was lightning fast and looked great. Now i only have 1gb of memory available to use.

I have read as many things about this problem (as i could stand) before deciding to post this. Everything is the same except is a 64-bit os and a newer edition of windows. If my bios was not a problem in vista why would it be in windows 7.

I have ran the memtest. I have prowled the bios for any way to better control the memory. I'm left with believing that the problems originates from windows 7 and i hope there is a fix for it soon. I'm gonna try restoring windows to about a week ago and see if my memory returns.

Memory Usage Goes Up

When i starting the windows (in the first few hours) everything is normal but after 1 day or 2 (sooner or later) the amount of available memory gradually goes down and the physical memory usage increasing. This increasing, continues until the memory usage reaches near the 88% and at that point , there isn't any memory available to operate any software . Also when memory reaches that point, i can't access any drive in the hdd; because everytime i want to open any folder, the following error appears :

C: is not accessible. Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service. At this point, i even can't shutdown or restart windows normally; i must restart windows manually by pressing the restart button. After restart, everything goes to normal again; but this problem appears again and again. (I had to restart windows every 1 or 2 days)

Here is the screen-shots of processes and performance tabs in the task manager (at 88% memory usage)
You can see that there is no software(application) that uses this amount of memory :

I already did the following actions but unfortunately none of them helped me:

0- using some optimizing and freeing softwares like (memory booster gold - ram saver pro - cleanmem)
1- scanning my computer with antivirus and antispywares
2- changing antivirus software
3- updating windows with all updates available via windows update
4- updating drivers of all hardwares
5- downloading and installing the following hotfixes that are related to memory leak:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976658
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977357
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978042
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978155
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979223

6- using cclenaer for clearing everything and using memtest86+ for finding any possible error in memory. And here is screen-shot from process explore (from sysinternals suite) at 90% memory usage :

Bsod After Memory Upgrade

I have a win 764-bit  pc that has been solid as a rock since i installed in october. Recently i was doing a bunch of stuff and i noticed a distinct system slow in the system. Upon checking, it seemed to me that the 2bg memory was over committed and i ordered another 2x1 gb for the two open slots on the mb. My original memory was ocx dd2-pc3200 cl5. I used cpu-z to determine type and verified that that type was supported on my motherboard (intel dp35dp). I ordered 2 sticks of kingston ram of the same type also with the same voltage and cache latency (cl) numbers.

On power-up, bios recognized the 4gb of memory. All seemed well.

On windows boot, the logon screen came up. As soon as i selected my userid, i got a bsod and the machine rebooted. I booted into safe mode and everything came up fine. I looked and confirmed that windows oculd see 4gb of memory and that the page file was now 4gb.

Booted back with normal windows (since i didn't know what else to check, and the system booted up fine and i could log on. I started running the system performance evaluation and mid-stream another bsod. Again, the system rebooted too fast for me to read any of the diagnostics.

First question: how do i make the machine stop on a bsod and not reboot?

I have a old (ca. 2009) windows memory diagnostic disk here and i booted off that to run a memory diagnostic. That said the installed memory was bigger than 4gb and it could only test part of the installed memory. I'm letting it run while i'm typing this.

Second question: is there a memory diagnostic tool that is more recent and will test the entire memory range?

Third question: any other suggestions on how to trouble-shoot this? Anything that i might have overlooked, any compatibility issues i have not considered? This really sucks, i have been successful in upgrading almost every other component of this pc over time and have never had any problems.
