Keyboard Dead During Sleep Mode

To date i've been impressed with windows 7. I now have an issue that will have me moving to unix or back to windows xp if i cannot find a resolution quickly. I noticed recently when the pc was asleep that i couldn't wake it using [usb] kbd or [ps/2] mouse.

Pressing caps lock on keyboard gives no result as if power to the kbd has been removed. The only way i am able to get out of sleep mode is to press the front-panel reset button. I'm loathe to do that too often. I'm not aware of any changes made to the computer that coincided with this problem starting. Any ideas what could be going on here? Where do you start troubleshooting if the keyboard and mouse are unresponsive?

Sound Dead After Sleep Mode

Every time my computer goes into sleep mode, and i turn it back on again the sound is gone. I've searched for hours and hours trying things suggested to others with the exact same problem. I've done troubleshooting steps, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, trying different settings in the sound control panel. Nothing. My computer is a self-built running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, i've got a gigabyte mobo with onboard realtek hd. I'm about to resort to just reformatting my entire hdd and reinstalling windows because i'm pretty much convinced there is no fix. This is my exact motherboard: http://www.Newegg. Keyboard / Mouse Inactive After Monitor Goes Into Sleep Mode

I seem to be having a problem with both the keyboard and mouse going inactive after my monitor goes into a "sleep" mode and is "woke-up". The mouse works for a few seconds after that and then "freezes& if i unselected the "turn monitor off after 1 hour", then i never experience the problem. I'd like to select "after 1 hour" as i leave my pc on constantly. I have the most recent drivers for my monitor (acer al2216w), am using a logitech "access" keyboard and ms wheel mouse optical usb. The drivers for the keyboard and mouse were installed by windows 7.

Cannot Disable Keyboard Wake From Sleep

I have an asus n80vn notebook. I want to be able to wake up my notebook only by pressing the power button or the sleep button. I do not want any other keyboard key to wake my computer from sleep. Currently, pressing any key on the keyboard will wake my computer from sleep.

Here's what i've already tried:

1. Go to device manager -> keyboards -> properties -> power management -> uncheck "allow this device to wake the computer" why it doesn't work : there is no power management tab in my keyboard driver's properties window. I currently have four entries under "keyboards in the device manager:

Keyboard device filter
Microsoft ehome mcir 109 keyboard
Microsoft ehome mcir keyboard
Microsoft ehome remote control keyboard keys
There is no power management tab in any of these!

2. Go into bios, disable "wake on keyboard" why it doesn't work: there is no "wake on keyboard" option, nor anything similar, in my bios.

3. Open a command window, use the "powercfg -devicedisablewake" command to disable waking from the keyboard. Why it doesn't work: "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" does not report any devices currently set up to wake my computer from sleep. Furthermore, "powercfg -devicequery wake_programmable" only reports that my network card and my usb mouse are capable of being set to wake my computer from sleep (both are currently set not to wake the computer); it makes no mention of the keyboard.

I'm resigned to the idea that i will need to edit my registry, replace my keyboard drivers, or something equally intensive to prevent my keyboard from waking my computer, but i definitely want to do so. If it matters, i have the computer set only to go into s3 sleep, and have disabled hibernation. Any ideas?

Keyboard Does Not Work After Sleep / Hibernate

After i updated to windows 7 (clean install from xp) my keyboard (standard ps/2) will stop working after my pc goes into sleep or hibernate. I changed the keyboard settings to "allow this device to wake computer", which works for sleep mode. However, once the computer goes into hibernate the keyboard will once again not work and the "allow this device to wake computer" box is no longer checked. The drivers are up to date. Is there a fix or work around for this?

Troubleshooting Sleep Mode

I have a brand new hp laptop w/fingerprint reader. It's has continually had a problem coming out of sleep mode. When i was using just a password it would always tell me my password was invalid, when i started using the fingerprint reader it always says it doesn't recognize the reader. I could do a hard reboot (disconnect power and remove battery) and it would cure the issue. This last time i did a hard reboot the computer started up, the screen flashed and went black and it will not and has not allowed me to do anything. Keyboard and mouse do not function, black screen. Lights on the keyboard come on and the fans work but that's it!

Win7 Would Freeze After Sleep Mode

Windows 7 would freeze after sleep mode and a hard reboot would fix it. Until this last time went to awake it up and i got the normal freeze screen when i went to hard reboot nothing happens other then my fans spin lights come on and the cd drive.

Programs you are having problems with my keyboard will not light up nor will my screen turn on. I tried removing ram and swapping it around, unplugged hard drives, unplugged everything and checked all connections and even removed the battery from my mother board. My motherboard is an asus m2n-sli deluxe with a 3. 2 duel core athlon.nvidia 8800 gt i believe.

After Update Sleep Mode Is Broken

I had my computer set to go to sleep after about 20 minutes or so and when i would wake it up, it would immediately show the login screen and i would type my password and then the desktop would show up right away. Well then i installed some "update" and now when i go to wake my computer up it starts all the way back from my bios, running the bios initialization and essentially starting windows as if i just turned my computer on, then it takes forever to load up the password screen and after i enter my password it takes another few minutes to load my desktop. This is unacceptable its actually faster to shut my computer down and turn it back on!

Hdd Problem With Sleep Mode

When the computer goes into suspend, it hangs the hard drives, and doesn't spin them down. Im using win 7, 64, and i am wondering if theres a control panel or something that governs how the computer suspends itself. Im curious to know if you have ever heard of hdd's that do not have the spin-down feature in them. Why i am curious, is that these 2 250gb hdds came out of a raid array, and they are spec built to be continuous (for server type use that never spin down)which may be the problem. I don't know if its hardware or software.

Cannot Print After Resuming From Sleep Mode

Will not print after sleep mode with win 7 pro, after coming out of sleep mode, 2 printers will not print. I need to restart/reboot, and upon restart printers begin printing jobs in que. Same happens when coming out of sleep mode on win 7, when trying to print from networked win xp pro pc. I need to restart the win 7 pro pc. Printers are hp laserjet 3030 and hp deskjet 6122 (with deskjet 990c driver for the hp 6122). I have had this problem since set up of my win 7 pro pc in feb 2010; haven't found an answer yet.

This new pc has 2. 8 ghz amd athlon ii x64 7850, with 4 gb ram, 500 gb hd (only using 10% of hd). I have avast home, lavasoft ad-aware, threatfire; all in memory; windows firewall or comodo firewall set at different times - never on at the same time. Right now this is the major glitch. I know that network printing will not work when win 7 pro pc is in sleep mode; but after coming out of sleep mode printing is no longer available. I have run the troubleshooter countless times, but so far no answers.

Pc Does Not Respond After Waking From Sleep Mode

This is beginning to happen more frequently. I put my computer to sleep, and 5 minutes within logging and using anything (ex.google chrome or itunes), the application freezes. I then click alt-control-delete, but it never pops up (usually works). Then i go the taskbar and it shows a "explorer.exe not responding. ". Then the whole computer just freezes, and then only thing i can do is hold down the power button for a force shutdown. My wife's computer is also windows 7, and it always works (doesn't "not respond") when she wakes it from sleep. So its something with my computer. Is there any solution for this?

Computer Wont Come Out Of Sleep Mode

My computer wont come out of sleep mode. Screen will go black after some time. Than using the mouse and keyboard wont wake it up. The screen stays black. Yet the light on the monitor stays green instead of orange (it has signal but nothing is there) i have to hold the power button and kill it than reboot to get the screen back. I never had any hardware problems in xp but im new to windows7 and still getting familiar with it. Figured somebody would ask some system specs.
I just installed windows the other day and downloaded newest drivers for everything. Also got all automatic updates.

In power settings turn off the display is set to 10 minutes, and sleep mode is set to never so im guessing its not really going into sleep mode. I now went in and looked at some settings and made some changes. In advanced settings i turned off hybrid sleep (i dont know what it does) i saw selective usb suspend setting that was enabled (dont know what it means) could that be turning off my mouse and keyboard thus why i cant wake it up? I turned off all sleep mode features now. And disabled all hibernate/turn off display features. And am going to let it sit for awhile and see if it does it again. I will report back if this works.

Cannot Go Into Sleep Mode After Being Left Idle

Windows 7 home premium, dell inspiron 1545 laptop. My laptop will not go to sleep after being left idle. I have checked all power options, including allowing the laptop to sleep when sharing multimedia. I have checked the device manager for hardware which can wake my laptop. There are no programs which are scheduled etc. When the battery reaches the critical level, my laptop does go into hibernate mode. I am currently using the default power saving power options which do not work. I am fairly sure my laptop used to go to sleep with windows 7 installed, but have no idea what has been changed and don't fancy formatting etc. This is driving me mad. I'm not a computer novice, and have googled, tried loads of different options etc.

Bluetooth Mouse Fails After Sleep Mode

My logitech bluetooth mouse looses communication after coming out of standby mode. The mouse does not show up in the devices panel and will not resync. To get it back i have to reboot, then remove the bluetooth mouse from the devices panel and then add the device again. When win7 was installed, it recognized the mouse without the need to manually supply drivers. I checked the logitech site which does not have win7 drivers available for download.

The issue is not limited to the mouse as a bluetooth speaker system has similar problems with standby mode. Anyone know how to solve the bluetooth standby issues on win7? System: dell m1330 laptop, logitech v470 bluetooth mouse, win7-64 home premium

Hard Drive Full After Sleep Mode

Problem occurred after upgrading from vista to windows 7.coming out of sleep mode, or logging in after computer left running unattended for several hours, c drive is full. Going into sleep mode/log off, c drive has 377/456 available. Have changed to dynamic drive and eliminated other partitions. Did not fix problem. No error codes. Restart clears up the problem and c drive goes back to normal space available.

Some additional information:

If computer left running and in lock-up problem occurs over time.

Normal steps taken to fix: defrag, minimized services, ran troubleshooter etc. Have run virus scans/spyware scans etc. Have searched forums for similar issue. Found something in vista forum regarding system restore taking up available drive space. So i have set maximum shadow storage to 10gb. Won't know for a while whether this fixed the problem. I doubt it though, because default max shadow storage was set to 30% = '40gb and problem was consuming 377gb.

I traced the offending files to the pc tools application internet security and/or registry mechanic in the common files subdirectory. There was an xmlfile in there that grew until all available drive space was consumed. I tried to get support from pc tools but all they suggested was downloading the current application versions, which i did, but to no avail.

I was at first unable to delete the file because it is in use when the apps are running in background. However, by changing the settings to turn them off at bootup, and using the disk cleanup application below, i was able to delete it.

External Drive Disconnects After Sleep Mode

Twice in the past month i have awakened my computer from the sleep state to find that the external drive was no longer recognized. I had to disconnect the fire-wire cable and reconnect it for the drive to be recognized. At the same time my bluetooth phone lost its connection with the bluetooth adapter on my computer. I did nothing differently as far as i know on these two occasions than on any other similar occasions. Does anybody have any thoughts on what might be happening?

Win 7 / Vista Sleep Mode Problems

I have installed windows 7 x64 over my vista x64 as a upgrade. I have problems with the computer not going into sleep mode. I have a home built system with a asus p5ql pro motherboard. The system will stop working and the power and hd indicator light will go out, and the system will constantly reboot until i kill the main power and i have to reset the bios. This also happened in vista. Out of curiosity i reinstalled windows xp home edition on a second hd, and it sleeps and/or shuts down properly.

Pc Won't Enter Sleep Mode

I've built a system with windows 7 home premium (64 bits) as the os. The screen saver works fine and the screen is turned off at the specified time in the power manager; but, when it's supposed to enter in sleep mode it never does. I've already tweaked the power manager in every possible way, also updated the bios and the drivers for all the devices plugged in my system and the problem remains unsolved.
This feature is helpful to me since my pc uses a 700 w psu and sleep mode is a feature that allows to save some power. I had a pc running windows xp before and never had a problem with sleep mode.

Laptop No Longer Enters Sleep Mode

I have an hp dv9000 with windows 7 ultimate, which i updated recently with kb980408, kb975496, and kb972696. I figured at first that the reason for not being able to go into sleep mode was due to the updates at first however my laptop i still having issues with sleep mode. I tried editing the sleep mode configuration to allow and deny hybrid sleep as well as disable timers with mixed results. Generally when i attempt sleep mode the laptop screen goes black, the lights on the panel go dark but only for a second and then power back on. When i used the command powercfg -lastwake i got a response of

Wake history count - 1
Wake history [0]
Wake source count - 0

Right before posting this issue my laptop had in fact powered into sleep mode for about 5 minutes and the powered back on so i am confused why the history doesn't show any activity. For the life of the laptop and while having windows 7 i have not had this issue until this week. Anyone have any suggestions for me to try?

Monitor Goes Directly In Sleep Mode On Boot Up

I bought a computer last week online (had it built from a popular site that i've used before). The computer worked fine for a few days. Last night, in the middle of playing a game, it crashed or something. Upon reboot, the monitor went directly into power saving mode. I thought my old monitor was t he problem, so i bought a new monitor. Same thing. When i turn it on, the monitor goes right into sleep mode. Maybe once out of every 20 or 30 reboots it will actually boot up, or i can spam f8 and get it to boot into safe mode.

I read online to turn off all the power-saving options. So i did (and i also installed the new monitor driver from the disc while i was able to do so). Rebooted. Same  problem. Every time i boot up, all i see is a black screen and the monitor goes right into power saving mode, hitting f8 does nothing, no normal boot screens even appear. The boot up "beep" never sounds off, and the fan seems to die down very quickly as well. Whats really confusing is that it worked fine for like 5 days. Then poof there's some kind of conflict.

Maybe the onboard video card is turned on in the bios or something? I don't know cause i cant even get that far. Booting up gets me to a sleeping monitor every time. Anyone got any ideas? These are the exact parts i am working with: amd phenom ii x2 550 dual-core cpu4gb ddr2-800 pc6400ati radeon hd5750 1gb single cardasus m4a785-m amd785g hybrid crossfire chipset power supply 600 watt windows 7 (64 bit)

Blue Screen When Entering Sleep Mode

Bsod when entering sleep mode and with system restore. I recently started to have problems with my system crashing and bsod when it went into sleep mode. I updated all of the drivers and have attempted different fixes but i cannot resolve this issue. When i attempted to do a system restore, it, too, was unsuccessful and also crashed with bsod. There is no apparent malware or virus; however, windows doesn't recognize my avira antivirus program, which is running normally.

Ipv6 Does Not Work After Waking Up From Sleep Mode

I had a problem about ipv6 on windows 7 for a long time. I have a ipv6 & ipv4 dual stack network. Every time i wake up my computer, the ipv6 cannot work. The appearance is that i can't ping and access ipv6 website. But after some research, i realize that only the dns part is broken. When i ping the ipv6 site like ipv6.google.com, it tells me it find no host, but if i use nslookup, i can find the ipv6 address. And the following are my tries:

Ping ipv6.google.com - not work
Ping 2a00:1450:8001::68 - does work, the ip is the ipv6.google.com address
Ping -6 ipv6.google.com - does work like the above
