Removing Offline Files In Win 7 After Upgrade

Removing offline files in windows 7 after both windows upgrade to 7 and elimination of server drives that were mapped with offline files enabled. Installed windows 7 on vista ultimate laptop. Same time the server blew up eliminating two mapped drives with substantial offline data remaining on the now windows 7 machine. I have disabled the offline files in sync center and rebooted. Where do i look to find the now hidden offline files so that i can remove them?

Removing Win 7 Files

With a new copy of windows 7 professional, i installed it onto my system and then discovered that i had inadvertently placed it on my data drive (a second physical hard drive in the computer). So i started over, this time making sure to install it onto my intended boot drive. With my second attempt successful, i then turned my attention to removing the unwanted windows files form my data drive.

- I made sure that i was running the copy from the boot drive and tried to remove the unwanted folders
- I tried safe mode
- I tried safe mode with command prompte
- I set all file attributes to rw
- I tried running regsvr (okay, that was desperate and dumb)
- I took the data drive out of the box and connected it to a different computer
Access denied!

Is there any way to do this? Are there any old-style norton-like utilities that can turn these unwanted folders into unallocated clusters? Anything?

Removing Sound Files From Wmp 12

I recently let wmp 12 do a scan on my system for random mp3 files. When scanning, it picked up all the system sound files. (Ding. Chord. And a few hundred others) and added them to the library of wmp 12. I wish to remove these files from wmp 12, due to the fact its playing havoc with my backup to the mp3 library, which is pretty extensive, and the autosync always includes the system sound files, which obviously, i do not want in the mp3 library.

"Trusted installer" wont let me delete the files out of my library, which in a way is good, but it doesn't help me in removing the sounds out of the library i don't want to delete the sound files, just remove them out of the library. I've tried everything. But nothing short of deleting the whole media center, and beginning again. Anyone have any ideas?

No Offline Files

I have a user that has offline files enabled and syncing. When she takes her laptop out of the office, she can login and see her files, work with them and return to the office an sync the changes. Now for the problem, if she wants to connect to say a hotel wi-fi, she can do so, but after logging in she doesn't have her offline files. It appears that windows 7 creates a new profile for her. She is using her domain login credentials and does not change to (this computer) when she is connected elsewhere.

Offline Files Problem

i have a network with:

Desktop - win 7 ultimate
Dell laptop - win 7 pro
Sony laptop - win 7 home premium
Netgear readynas duo

I have tested the "always available offline" function on the desktop and dell laptop and it works fine with files on the nas. However on the sony laptop the right-click option "always available offline" does not appear. I can find the sync center in the control panel, but when i go to "set up new sync partnerships" it says " there are no new sync partnerships that can be set up on this computer". Also the "manage offline files" link doesn't work.

Can anyone help me enable this? I'm assuming that this function is available on home premium as there is an entry in the control panel.

Offline Files Problems

I'm having all kinds of problems trying to get offline files to cooperate with me. This is the first windows 7 machine we have on the domain. We have been running xp with offline files successfully for several years. Some info about the setup:

The machine is connected to our domain (2003 level). H: is mapped to the users' home directory on our file server (2003 server r2). The mapping is done through the profile tab for the user in active directory. "Documents" and "desktop" are redirected to h:documents and h:desktop via group policy.

According to windows explorer, both documents and desktop have offline files enabled (i believe this is by default when using folder redirection). If i'm online, i can force a sync by right-clicking each folder and selecting "synchronize selected offline files" (i'm on swedish win7, so it might not say exactly that). However, if i go into the synchronization center and hit synchronize, nothing happens. The status just reads "waiting for synchronization". No error messages, no event log messages, nothing.

Another issue i'm having is that if i pull the network cable, the folders go offline and i can continue to work on documents as well as save new ones, but when i reconnect the network cable, it doesn't go online again. Even logging out and in again doesn't help. In order to get back online, i need to restart the computer. And even then, when i login, it won't synchronize automatically. I still have to force the sync by right-clicking each folder and hitting synchronize.

It should be noted that after re-connecting the network cable, it appears the computer doesn't even have connectivity with our domain. For example, running gpupdate results in an error about not being able to contact the domain controller. What's up with that?

Offline Files Lost

I have map network drive on my computer. Which is connected to a data folder on an other computer in my small office network. I hade activated the service "enable offline files".

Today when i loged on sync process started. When it was in process i disabled the function  "enable offline files". Sync was stoped. But some files from that folder on another computer are now missing. Now from where i can find those files.

Perhaps when sync was in progress i disabled the offline files and the files from my computer could not be copied to that network computer. Please tell from where now i can restore those files. They are five files which are missing.

I am much worried. I dil not know that how offline files work so i did by mistake. But that data in those files was very important. That contains record of my company for many years.

Saving Offline Files To A Seperate Partition

When i installed win7 on my vaio i created a separate partition for my data (d:) & reserved the smaller (40gb) c: partition for system files. When i activate offline files, it quickly fills the c partition as it is storing these offline files in the csc folder.

I followed all the advice i received in the folowing thread:

http://social. Answers.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/w7files/thread/6af0cf60-84f6-4e48-b0a1-2780a5fd7b7a
Without success. Apparently i'm not the only one having this probem. It still tells me that 'access is denied' when trying to delete csc folder.

Removing / Reinstalling Laserjet Printer

I have a problem with my hp laserjet 4m plus printer. No print jobs are going to the printer. I have it hooked up with a usb parallel cable to a usb port on my computer. I am running windows 7 on an hp pavillion system. I tried to remove the printer from the 'devices and printers' display by right clicking on the device and selecting 'remove device'. The printer is removed from the display. But, when i come back to the 'devices and printers' display, the printer reappears.

I, also, tried selecting the printer and clicking on 'remove device' (on the tool bar). Again, the printer is removed from the display. But when i come back to 'devices and printers', the printer reappears. I, then, tried clicking on 'print server properties' and then on the printer (under drivers) and clicked on 'remove' and 'remove driver', i get an error message: "unable to remove hp laserjet 4/4m plus ps300, x64, type 3 - user mode driver. The specified printer driver is currently in use. "

I don't see how that could be. The printer is turned off and the usb parallel cable is disconnected. All i want to do is to remove the printer from the system, attach a new usb parallel cable (since i suspect the old cable may be bad) and reinstall the printer and driver.

Removing Old Vista & Win7 32 Installs

I have a vista64 and win7 32 installed on a raid drive and win7 64 on a single drive. I want to remove the vista and win7 from my raid drive so it can be used for new testing. I have tried the bootsect command and it does not allow me to set up the win7 64 as a bootable drive. It still looks at the raid drive for boot information. I have done:

1. I have taken the raid off line and booted from the win7 installation disk and done the bootsect /nt60 c:

2. I have used the created system startup disk and tried repair and the bootsect.

3. The bios has been changed to reflect what i need done making the win7 drive the main drive on boot.

4. I have used the suggested bootsect /nt52 c: that help suggests.

5. I did not use the bootsect nt/60 e:, where e is the dvd drive with the win7 and the startup disks are located.

I completes each time and tells me to start the computer . Still it hangs.

Can not use the system image as the backup does not work on the win7 64 drive only on the win7 32 raid.

Upgrade Expanding Files Gets Stuck At 21%

I am trying to upgrade from vista to windows 7 and when the install program is expanding out windows files, the install gets stuck at 21%. What should i do? I am installing from the downloaded student offer version of windows 7. I have let the install hang at 21% for 16 hours before turning off the computer.

I haven't heard any upgrade from vista to windows 7 take this long. When it reaches 21% i can no longer boot up vista and i have needed to restore my laptop to its factory settings. I am running 32 bit windows vista and have bought a 32 bit version of windows 7 upgrade.

Upgrade Fails At Transferring Files At 60%

I have a toshiba satellite m305d-s4829 laptop. I tried running the upgrade exe. Fails. I can't really catch the error message but it goes to a blue screen, and all i see is the word memory on the screen. This happened like 3 times. I read around on here, and it seems drivers can affect the upgrade process. I go to the toshiba website and download the toshiba upgrade assistant. I run it. It's automated. Does some downloads, uninstalls somethings, and prompts me to run the windows 7 iso.cool.

The upgrade gets around the same point and fails for the fourth time. What gives? I apologize for not being more specific on the error message. It clears from the screen very quickly and sometimes i even miss it. Any help is much appreciated. I rather not clean install. I have many audio production programs and i rather not have to spend days getting my stuff back in working order.

Removing Hard Drive Causes Win 7 To Not Be Able To Boot

I have a desktop with two hard drives. I installed vista on one of the hard drives, and later on, i installed windows 7 on the other one. So i could boot into both operating systems. However, i no longer want vista and i want to remove the hard drive that vista is installed on from my computer and use it elsewhere.

However, when i remove the hard drive with vista, i can't boot into windows 7 either. When i put the vista hard drive back in, the desktop boots fine into both operating systems. I've tried using the original installation disc to repair windows 7, but it couldn't even find the installation.

I have a feeling that the boot files for windows 7 could be on the vista hard drive, even though i installed it on a separate hard drive. I'm not sure though. If someone could help me boot into windows 7 using only the windows 7 hard drive, that would be much appreciated.

Ms Office Corrupted After Removing Antivirus Program

I had a fake anti-virus removed from my laptop using malwarebytes but it didn't work and then i used fake anti-virus removal program and that seem to do the job. Plus other sites were recommending to also use combofix as well, so i did.

Now my laptop can't get windows update to install and the yellow shield after so many attempts can not install the updates and keeps popping up. And also ms office programs were removed from from start menu and trying to re-install or remove ms office it won't let me.

So i'm trying to solve this. I have tried the system restore but the fake anti-virus deleted all my prior restore points and at one time i couldn't even access the restore even under safe mode.
I don't have an old copy of an old registry to try to replace i was wondering if there is a program that would release ms office to uninstall and to have windows update work again and install the updates.

Printer Offline

New laptop with windows 7 - initially no issues with pairing to wireless internet and printer hp photosmart premium c309g-m until i bought home work laptop also with windows 7. Needed to use wireless printer and to connect temporarily to internet this system forced me to setup network group (not being completely sure what i was doing but thought i was doing no harm).

Thats when the problems started, this disabled our home laptop computer which before this was wirelessly connected to the printer and internet it stopped printing or connecting to internet even after joining the network group (for home computer with correct pass words etc) many many hours waisted, eventually got connection back to internet by restoring to a previous date.

I then deleted the  network groups, the printer shows as default in devices and printers but when fails to print saying it is offline, i have tried deleting printer and searching for bluetooth from both laptop and from the printer end a well (none detected).

Offline Folders

I have a general question having to do with offline folders. If you have offline folders and say someone then on the server moves some files into a subfolder. When you resync back up how is that handled? Are the files deleted and the copied on your offline folder cache or are they moved? And what happens if you happened to make a change to a file, but it's been moved on the server? I've been looking, but can't find any documentation as to what happens when. Can somebody please help me out?

Access Denied On Usb Drive After Removing Permissions

I accidentally removed all the access permissions from my external usb drive, after i had already taken full ownership of the drive, and now it shows me the drive icon and letter "e:", but states that access is denied when opening. Even the "security tab" is gone from the drives properties.

I was trying to change permissions to include inheritable ones, and i hit the wrong button to remove i think(i was stupidly moving too quickly through all the options, my fault), and after that i was no longer able to access the drive. I have thousands of files on this drive! Please help, anyone? The drive still shows up within windows explorer as e:, and disk management shows it as a healthy (primary partition).

Update: found the fix, thank you lord! I tried going into safe mode just in case, and it worked! Go into safe mode, and login with an administrator account. From there you will be able to right click on the drive and have the "security tab" working again, where you can take ownership and add permissions back!

Offline File Synchronisation

As an experienced xp pro user, i am somewhat surprised at what appears to be limitations associated with win 7 offline file synchronization process in xp pro files would sync on log on, log off and as frequently in between as you established. However in win 7 it appears to only sync on log on [and as timed in between] but not on log off - am i correct?

If so am i also correct that there is a strong potential of losing recently updated network files that when you log off [ie after the last timed sync] and as such are not on the remote/network pc/laptop. Has anyone encountered this problem and more importantly identified a way of resolving it please.

Cannot Locate Driver Files For Ide Controller During Upgrade Installation

I just bought the windows 7 home premium upgrade family pack which entitles me to upgrade all three of my computers, i was told. I have installed it successfully on my gateway desktop with vista home premium without a problem. I anticipate putting it into my l vista laptop.

I've tried to update another xp dell desktop, but keep running into a wall. The installation program asks me to choose a hard disk partition onto which i should install the update. One of the partitions is marked "reserved", so i choose the other. But i can go no further in the installation until i locate driver files for the ide controller.

I've tried finding such files on the windows xp disk, in cwindowssystem32drivers (since that is where device manager says they are) and on the windows 7 disk itself. So far, no matter what driver file location i have tried, i cannot get beyond that point in the installation. I realized that upgrading windows xp to windows 7 would mean losing my data and other installed programs and am willing to do so because i'd like all my computers on the same os and the use of 'homegroup'. Please advise on how to get beyond this point in the installation.
