Login Twice Issue (double Login)

Currently, i am having issues with a few of my machines. When the user logs in it accepts the credentials, comes up with the welcome, and then it prompts them again for their user name and password. After the login the second time, everything runs smoothly. It has occurred with domain accounts as well as local accounts. I've checked the events and there are no flags being thrown. It just doesn't continue to the next step. It doesn't occur every time, and there is no way of predicting when it does. Any ideas?

Login Using Only Keyboard

When i leave my work desk i have to lock my station, i do it very often so i would like to login faster - by using only my keyboard. Is there a combination of keys that would get me straight to the password box? When locked the monitor says "swipe your finger" (i can't use my fingerprint reader at that point because the lid is closed, i'm using external keyboard and monitor) when i try ctrl+alt+del nothing happens, esc key works by displaying user icon and the button "switch user".

I must point the user icon with the mouse to reveal the password box, there is apparently no way to change focus to that icon from the keyboard (tab doesn't work). It's annoying that i must grab my mouse every time i want to unlock the workstation.

Login Problem

My computer isn't letting me log in to my account. I am the only administrator, on the computer, i believe. Right now, i am on the guest account. What it says is; "the user profile service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded. " I am running on windows 7 home premium. I tried to run chkdsk, through this guest account; i right-clicked the command prompt, too, but it still didn't work; i'd type in my administrative-password, and it would say that the command prompt didn't exist, under my account. I tired opening other things, under my name - but it's all as if my account is just disabled?

Login As Administrator

I have had a few programs that have asked me to log in as administrator which you think being the only log in i would be but apparently on some programs i don't have the right. I found this:

Click start
- Type: cmd
- Right-click cmd and click run as administrator
- Type: net user administrator /active:yes (notice there is a space between the word "administrator" and the "forward slash"
- Press enter
- Exit
- Restart windows and you will be given the opportunity to log on as administrator. Is there any other way around it?

How To Login Without Password?

In windows 7 i have a computer named hal. Hal has an account named dave which has the password daisy. On hal i share a folder, in the sharing options i allow "everyone" read/write access. Dave remains owner and is unchangeable.

On another machine i try to access hal, it requests credentials to access the share. I already stated that i want everyone to be allowed without a password, but it still will not let me access the share when i type "everyone" as the username. It will only let me access the share if i use dave/daisy but this is a problem as i would then have to disclose my personal password to everyone.

That is issue number one, issue number two:

I have remote desktop setup to access pc2 from pc1, pc2 has a username and password dave, and daisy
I can access remote desktop this way but i decide i would rather just be able to login to remote desktop without the use of a password. I disable dave's password and try to login but it tells me that i cannot login with blank passwords " login failure: user account restriction. Possible reasons are blank passwords not allowed, logon hour restrictions or a policy restriction has been enforced. "

Why are these annoyances in place and how do i disable them so that i do not require a password for the simple act of sharing folders and logging in via remote desktop?

Cannot Complete Login

I've got this machine i built not too long ago, been working great. Moved to a new location and went to fire it up, enter my password and it shows 'welcome' spinner and that's the last thing it ever does.

Boots fine in safe mode.
Went into msconfig and removed everything that made any sense.
Un-joined it from the domain
Turned off the firewall
Set the bios back to defaults (no clocking = slow)
Getting the 7001 error in event viewer
Also getting a 1005 on dcom w/ the shellhwdetection

Stumped.

Hate to re-install, it was running so nicely.

Black Screen Before Login

Computer was running fine until today anyways, i started up a game to play this morning and the video card driver started bugging out - it would crash and recover literally every 5 seconds. I assumed that the intel graphics update that i installed 3 days ago might have been the culprit, so i did a system restore back to the date before it was installed.

However, after the login i was presented with a black screen with simply the cursor - task manager worked, explorer.exe was apparently running but i still had a black screen :/ (although only a tenth of the usual system processes were working) i restarted the computer but now i got the black screen before login, after the windows logo shows up and does the twirly thingy o. O running in safe mode has the same result.

I'm thinking it has something to do with the video card driver, but seeing that i can't get windows to startup all the way i've no idea what to do. Tried putting in a windows 7 os disc in to reinstall but the computer doesn't detect it. I did install another program yesterday but i'm not sure if it's related. Info - windows 7 64 bit, hp pavilion dv6 laptop, 2. 1 ghz dual core, 4 gb ram, intel media graphics accelerator (intel gma 4500 mhd or something. )

Login Cookies Are Being Deleted

Okay, this is a weird one! Every so often, seemingly at random, i sit down at my computer to find all my login cookies have been deleted from my favorite websites. This is a reall pain! The first thing i did to solve this was to reset my privacy settings to 'medium' from 'medium high. ' i then added every one of my favourite websites to the list of sites allowed to use cookie information. This worked for the last couple of days.

Then, i woke up this morning to find it had happened again! All my cookies had been deleted, and i had to sign in to all of my favourite websites. I've checked to see if maybe my antivirus program (avg) or anti-spyware program (adaware and spybot s&d) were responsible. Nope, neither one had done a scan in recent days. The only other possibility i could think of was that maybe there had been a power failure during the night, but that would be the first time a power failure has caused this to happen. It certainly never happened when i was running windows xp.

Nor did i get a message about improper shutdown when i first went online this morning. Everything looked the way it always looked, expect for the missing cookies! (I left the computer running all night, as i have seti at home installed, and it works on analyzing data from outer space while i sleep. ) Can someone please help me get rid of this cookie monster that keeps 'eating' my cookies?

Black Screen After Login

I have begun the experience issues with the black screen of death problem. I am running windows 7 pro. On a samsung nc10. I get the black screen after login and am unable to use ctrl alt del to access the task manager. I am able to log into windows normally though via one of two methods - this varies. Either bash in the password really fast when the login screen appears, or wait a few minutes on the login screen then login. I have tried the prevx's fix but this has been unsuccessful. I have just checked my display drivers with samsung but the driver i have installed is upto date.

I have checked around on the web and i think the  only option is to repair install or reinstall but i don't see why this would be relevant or how i would stop the same problem from happening again in another week. I have checked for malware and don't think there is a problem i have also checked for viruses using eset smart sec. And haven't encountered any issues. Do you have any constructive advise?  Do you know when microsoft plan on releasing a fix for this issue?

Server Login Failed

I have a server running on windows server 2003, all the other 5 computers are able to map the drive in the server and login with the credientials i have. The problem: i just goit a new computer, custom built, i installed a fresh copy of windows 7 everything works fine, the internet is working, i see all the computers in the network and i also see both servers in the same work-group. I can go in the server and connect to the new computer using the correct login. However, when i try to map a drive on the server, it asks for a login username and password. I type in the right info a million times, and it says login failed, unknown user or wrong password.

But all the other computers connect to the server with the same login. I cannot login the server at all, both servers. Every time i type in the login info, it just says that the login failed and it gives me a refresh ( so i can retype) and if i keep pressing enter with the "wrong password" it does not lock me out or anything, it seems like i'm not even connecting or anything. I am pretty knowledgeable with computer, this has never happened, i have tried everything, this is not something common.

Saving Passwords And Login Id

I have a brand new laptop with w7 home/pr pre-installed. Auto-update is working so it's up to date. I use a zyxel wireless-n router which is functioning fine with all my xp laptops and my w7. Also attached to the network are a wd nas as well as various print-server connected printers. My security software is zone alarm extreme (up-to-date).

The password issue:
(1)  the w7 laptop logs on fine when i startup in windows and to the network. But when i open explorer and click on the nas, i always have to enter the logon-id even though i tell it to save it.

(2)  passwords are not saved with outlook 2003. I've applied every method in kb 290684 and 829918, including the registry stuff. To no avail.

(3)  windows live mail - same problem - causing failures.

(4)  ie 8 - will not accept a modified default search engine setting . . . Related? So now i use firefox but i need ie since some foreign sites do not accept firefox (even in ie mode). There are no problems with accessing internet sites which require logon and passwords. Since the laptop is new i have not tried local applications with password settings. However, until the email is resolved, the w7 laptop cannot become the primary laptop.

I'm sending this from an xp since i cannot logon with a w/live logon on the w7 laptop. Any suggestions on how to fix this "save password" problem are appreciated.

White Screen On Login

I am running a toshiba satellite portable computer. Upon logging into the admin user account the screen goes white and stays white. Unlike other people i am unable to get the task manager, my only options are lock, switch user, log off and change a password. I am fixing this for a friend and have never encountered this type of issue before. Safeboot results in a black screen with nothing ever happening. Same with command prompt.

I suspect it has something to do with a process starting up. Install discs are not available as this machine is roughly 3 years old and have been misplaced. Just looking for a way even if temporary to at least get the files off it i need so i can wipe the system. I hate vista with a passion. Anyone's quick and speedy response would be great!

Blue Screen At Login

I bought my friend laptop after he came back from iraq cause he no longer wanted it. I was going threw changing the stuff to make it mine, like user name and what not. Well i tried to change the computer name as it was his name kebowlin-pc and it said to do this to restart the computer. I did, and now when the computer gets to windows 7 login screen it goes to the blue screen error. I have done two system restores with no luck. I have also tried changing the name back with now luck. This is what it is telling me.

Also a weird thing that i don't under stand is that the main user file is his name and it has a little lock on its pic in the user files, but i am the only person on the computer and the only admin.

(0x80070057)"i boot into safe mode, press ctrl-alt-del, and i *do* get a password prompt.system restore still fails as above. When i try to boot normally, i get no login prompt again. I'm at a loss. What should i try next?

Login / Welcome Page Keeps Popping Up

Have a brand new lenovo thinkpad and had windows 7 installed on here. My login page keeps popping up every time i look away from the screen it seems. It is happening within about a minute of inactivity. I have tried resetting power settings in the control panel, and nothing seems to make any difference. Is there a way to disable the login page? Or slow it down so it doesn't pop up so frequently? It doesn't even have a chance to get to a screen saver it happens so fast. I have tried troubleshooting and so on, and i am not super techno-savvy but i did search online and i just can't seem to find anyone with the same problem to resolve this. It's super irritating and i would appreciate any help.

Automatically Login On User Account

I have my main user account and two other rarely used accounts for my niece and nephew. When i boot my computer, it stops on the login screen where i have to manually choose my main user account to continue. So, i was wondering. Is there a way i can set it so my main user account is automatically chosen every time, without having to manually choose it, so i can boot computer, walk away, and come back with my full desktop loaded? I have looked through mounds of forum threads, help topics, and all the user account settings i can find.

Login Password Recovery / Reset

A friend of mine is setting up a new laptop with windows 7. He gave his assistant his chosen password to access windows, however, she forgot to write the case combination she used down. So now he can't access windows. Is there a password recovery section or a way that he can reset this. I am not sure if there were alternate security questions asked that he could refer to, but getting around the password with alternate questions, would he still need the password to be able to reset this?

Random Corrupt Login Error

Occasionally and more frequently, login will not work properly. I am a genuine 64-bit windows 7 user, and i love the system, but unfortunately i have been running into a recurring problem. I'm sorry that this does not have any specific error messages (i didn't think ahead, and it's not happening now), but these are the symptoms:

- On boot, i get to the login screen just fine, i enter my credentials.

- It says welcome, and then something like "loading your desktop".

- It says something about a corrupted login, then puts me into either:

- A) some weird half-breed of windows 95 and 7, where icons still resemble windows 7, but the taskbar and explorers are grey

- B) this last time, i was logged into a temporary account

- Edit: when i shut down, there is some weird audio feedback

- From then on, if try to log in, an error message about login or profile data not found.

- I usually just restore to an earlier image, and it will work fine.

Unfortunately, this has become more frequent, and i'm wondering what is the culprit. If it is impossible to grasp the situation without further information, i will try to get it. Past searches suggested it was something about the registry.

Non Administrator Account Login Problem

I have had my windows 7 administrator account working perfectly fine since the day i turned on my computer, but the guest account i set up refuses to work. I do not get an error message, nor any explanation of any sort. When i try to log in to the guest account, i see the words "logging in. " Which quickly becomes "logging out. " And i am returned the user-select screen. I also created a new account, with no privileges to test it. Same results. I am running the 64-bit windows 7, and have installed very few programs, although this problem has existed for some time.

I have no idea what could be causing this logging out, and the fact that i don't receive an error message adds to the confusion. I really would like a guest account so that other users of my computer don't have access to my private files.

Update Prevents Administrator Login

I installed a windows update last night (kb980248). After reboot, i could not login. It did not reject my password, but nothing happened after i entered it. Tried going to user accounts in control panel to make changes but it asked for system administrator password and would do nothing (yes, i used the correct password). Tried uninstalling update but asks for password and it did nothing again. Bottom line, after installing the update, it would not load my password. Somehow, i was able to restore my computer to just before the update and now i am up and going again. However, i am afraid to install that update again. Anyone with a similar experience?

Screen Saver Slows Down Login

I upgraded from vista ultimate to win7 ultimate a number of months ago. Everything works fine, except that whenever i activate any screen-saver, and it runs for a few hours, getting back to the login screen takes five minutes. If the screen-saver runs for a few minutes, no problem. My solution is just to lock the computer, but i wish i could use my screen-saver photos (happens on other screen-savers also). I don't want to do a clean install; not worth it for this inconvenience. Any other suggestions?

Login Hang After Remote Desktop

I'm seeing a strange hang with using my new windows 7 ultimate (64-bit) machine together with remote desktop. The steps i'm going through are the following:

1.configured the win7 machine to enable remote desktop.

2.connect to the win7 machine using remote desktop from my xp machine (same subnet). At this point, everything is working fine and i can operate the win7 machine correctly from the xp machine.

3. Disconnect from the win7 machine by selecting "disconnect" from the start menu. This closes down remote desktop on the xp machine.

4. Try to reconnect to the win7 machine using remote desktop or
5. Try to log in on the console of the win7 machine.

Neither 4 nor 5 work if i have ever connected to the machine using remote desktop. For #4, remote desktop hangs for a little while and then disappears, as if it's connection was established and then dropped. No error appears. For #5, the console just sits at the "welcome" page with the little spinning busy icon, as if it is hung trying to load setting prior to displaying the desktop.

In either case, the only option to regain access to the machine appears to be to power off the system (losing data). The system is otherwise completely unresponsive. I don't see any of this instability if i don't use remote desktop.connecting on console normally otherwise always works. Any ideas for how to resolve this, or if (when) a hotfix is going to be available?

Forgot Win 7 Login Id / Password

I have forgot my windows 7 ultimate log-in id? What do i do now? Back in november a computer coach and i built a new desktop pc. At the time we loaded windows 7, he said. "You must enter a personal log-in id. And don't forget it. " Well. 1. I did not write down the log-id. (Dang) and 2. For several different reasons, this new pc has sat in the case card board box since it was built. I have not used this new pc yet.

I am to take in this new pc this wednesday afternoon to 'finish the build' because some of the corsair obsidian 800d case 'features' were not working and i needed to receive replacement parts. Also the guy who helped me build the new pc ordered the wrong, (non-raid) western digital hard drives for back-up. I now have the correct wd hard drives which i will install as back-up drives.

When i go into his shop on wednesday and we install the replacement parts and then new hard drives. (I am not going to move windows 7 from the samsung spinpoint hard drives. ) We will eventually have to start windows 7. I am sure i don't remember the windows 7 log-in id i entered into this new pc. So, how can i a) either recover the id i entered back in november? Or b) fix/solve this problem? Please don't tell me i have to re-install windows-7 ultimate 64 bit edition. For when we did the initial install he updated several drivers.

Note: i wasn't sure on which thread to post this question/potential problem. Back in november, the day of the build, we did install windows 7 ultimate, 64 bit edition without any problem. So, i am sure windows & works. I just am worried that if i cannot remember my log-in id. I know what to do to 'fix' the 'problem'.
