Cannot Install Win 7 On Sata Hard Disk - Intel 945 Chipset Motherboard

I troubleshoot more than one pc with dual boot system which run windows xp and windows 7. Which system are most latest- intel g31 chipset, 2gb ram, 500 gb sata hdd, 2. 5 ghz intel dual core etc.
But, now i face some installation problem with my pc. Yesterday i run my pc smoothly with windows 7 with 2 ghz pentium 4, 1 gb ram, 80 gb pata hdd, 945 chipset motherboard etc. I need more storage area, so i purchase a hitachi 500 gb sata hdd. My motherboard has one pata connector and two sata connector. I use the pata connector to attach my hdd and dvd. They worked fine.

But, when i attach my new 500 gb sata hdd to sata connector and remove the 80 gb pata hdd. Only dvd attach with pata connector. I insert my windows 7 installtion dvd to the drive and restart my pc and go to bios. This is amibios. I find bios recognize the sata hdd as primary master and dvd to secondary slave drive. I also find sata drive mark in ide form. (Their also raid and ahci also available. ) I save the configuration and reboot. After reboot, when pc want to start from dvd, i press the space key from keyboard and the setup start to copy installation file in 2 stage and i find it complete the copy process. And pc going to start up, but, but a green color bar running through a tube for about 2 hours. Nothing happen. Read more at the forum.

Intel Chipset And Usb Drivers Won't Install Properly

compal cl51
2g ram
32 bit dothan cpu intel pentium m 1. 8 ghz
Ati mobility radeon 9700
100 gb hd
Windows experience index: 3. 4

I was able to install windows 7 pro on my compal cl51 without any seeming hitches, except these:
Intel(r) 82801dbm lpc interface controller 24cc
Intel(r) 82801dbm usb universal host controller 24c4

Also, the volume control from the function keys does not work even though the function keys for dimmness do work. That might be a chipset thing - i'm not sure because there aren't any other broken/alerted devices in the device manager.

The lpc interface just showed up as an unknown device without any drivers. I navigated through the update drivers -> let me pick -> show all hardware -> navigated down to intel and the lpc interface. Paraphrasing, it said this was "not guaranteed to work with system 7. Are you sure you want to do this? Your system might break. " I did it anyway, and now it shows up, but i'm not sure its functioning correctly, even though it says it is.

The usb thing shows up, but then when i unplug the device that seems to use it (trendnet clearlink for skype - model tvp sp2) it gets a yellow alert triangle on the device manager. It won't recognize when i plug it back in. When i look at it's properties in device manager, i get this in the device status: "windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)". There is no 'troubleshooter'.

The windows support page on the code 43 issue is useless, pointing vaguely at the device maker or intel - i can't be sure. (

Code 43
Recommended resolution

One of the drivers controlling the device notified the operating system that the device failed in some manner.

If you have already run the troubleshooting wizard, you might want to check the hardware documentation for more information about diagnosing the problem.

The only 'documentation' that came with this was a quick start and a user's guide. It halfway works. It just stops functioning correctly and you end up having to reinstall the drivers if you unplug the device. Every time.

The nearest i can figure, i need windows 7 support for all things intel 82801db/dbm on my computer. Intel's site is too vague in it's style of support for downloads. I couldn't tell what to download, or even if i had the right download.

As to the function volume thing - i got used to using it in winxp. I'd sure like it back in win7.

Emachine Intel D945gcl Motherboard Problem

There's no way to get my addition system information back is there?I have an emachine owned by gateway of course. Anyway, emachines support had me use a gateway update that is also on the emachines site to update my bios. Everything was fine, but yesterday i was feeling quirky and tried something. My computer was off and i pressed the power button in for about 4 seconds. It came on and then turned off. I pressed the button again like normal and no boot screen.

I switched off the power in back, switch it on and pressed power again. Boot screen now with a gateway logo, cool, i thought. Only problem is that the addition system information in the intel d945gcl motherboard board is now corrupt except for the lan mac address. I'm out of warranty so i assume there is nothing i can do, is there? There is no way to flash the bios now as it no longer knows the information.

Configuring 5.1 Audio In 64-bit / Intel D945gcpe Motherboard

I have windows 7 professional 64 bit running on a system with the intel d945gcpe mother board that comes with realtek hd audio thing built into it. However i am not able to configure windows to use all three audio 3. 5mm jacks at the back to output 5. 1 surround sound (my speaker's input consists of three 3. 5mm jacks that i used to plug into the three slots at the back of my cpu). I was able to do this in windows xp just by selecting "5. 1 surround sound" under speaker type in the realtek software as well as in control panel. However in windows 7, this option is greyed out in the realtek audio manager. I am unable to find an option to change to 5. 1 audio setup in "control panel->sound" too. So how do i setup my speakers? In addition to the internal audio thing, i have a pci sound card (creative sound blaster 5. 1), however it is not supported in windows 7 yet, so i have to use the realtek thing.

Win 7 64-bit Problem With 4 Sata Hard Drives

How can i get windows 7 (64bit) to see 4 sata hard drives? It will only accept 2 drives; if 4 are plugged in, it freezes on the "loading windows" screen.

Board:intel dg31pr; ram: 4 gb corsair; drives (all western digital): 600gb velociraptor(c:); 1. 5tb (e:); 1. 5tb (f:); 500gb (g:). Pioneer dvdrw-108 is allocated as d:all intel board drivers are up to date. Drives are plugged into board sata ports 0 through 3 (c, e, f, g) respectively.

The only drive that i have not moved around is the 600gb raptor - it has always stayed on motherboard sata port 0. I've tried all other variations on the other three drives. In every case, the only way windows will successfully reboot is if 2 drives are plugged in. If three or four are plugged in, windows hangs at the "loading windows" screen. I can "force" windows to accept a third and/or fourth drive if i boot with 2 drives and when i get to the login screen plug the other(s) in then press .

Windows will then see all the drives, but on reboot i'll have the same hang at the "loading windows" screen. If all the drives are plugged in, i will see them all in the bios. If i use the above mentioned method to "force" windows to recognize the drives, they can be seen both in windows explorer and in control panel>administrative tools>computer management>disk management. How should each drive be partitioned?á Mbr or gpt? Is it possible to partition the boot drive as gpt?

My reading indicates that the boot drive cannot be partitioned as gpt; can you advise as to if that is correct or not?Partitioning the disk as a basic mbr disk allows only 4 primary partitions and unlimited logical volumes - correct?Partitioning the disk as a basic gpt disk allows up to 128 primary volumes - correct?I read somewhere that windows 7 adds a 200 mb hidden partition (hex 17f) for o/s recovery - is that correct?

If so, trying to add 4 disks (assuming a single volume on each disk) would result in 5 volumes thus exceeding the mbr limit of 4 primary partitions (assuming that the boot disk must be partitioned as mbr). So do i need to adjust the partitioning in some way or is this a windows 7 sata bug of some sort? Can windows 7 boot from a gpt partitioned boot disk?If so, what do i need to do to do this. I started to do this in acronis disk director 11, but was warned that the disk would not be bootable, so i did not proceed with it.

Fresh Install Of Win7 On Sata Drive

I have tried several times to install windows 7 oem onto my freshly built computer onto a sata 2 drive. It hangs up each time after it copies the files off the dvd and says its starting up windows. No error messages are displayed. It never gets to the point where it asks me if i need to install 3-party drivers for the gigabyte sata controller. I have tried to install with the wd drive both non-partitioned and partitioned/formatted to ntfs. What am i doing wrong?

Gigabyte ga-ma785gmt. Ud2h
Amd phenom ii x4 965
4 gig of corsair dual channel ddr3 1666+
Internal integrated ati radeon hd 4200 graphics
Western digital 500 gb sata 2
Seagate 500 gb sata 2

Update as of 12/19/09

I have finally got back to trying to finish the build after about 10 days of waiting to get the time to sit down withthe system again. I'm developing a painful disgust for windows 7. The software is real touchy in comparison with windows xp which i have loaded on several types of systems with no problems. I went through some forums on the subject and found several suggestions which ultimately helped me get the software installed. The system subsequently crashed while getting updates from microsoft's website. I'm now going through the motions of trying to reload the software. Here is what a few people suggested:

1. Remove all hardware not needed for the install: cd/rw, external usb devices, etc. And bring memory down to one stick. (Done) note: i never had to do this with xp.
2. Make floppy or usb with sata driver. Install when prompted. (Done)

Note: make sure you install sata and not raid driver because people have had problem with raid drivers during install.

3. Make sure bios is set to sata mode. (Done).
4. Make sure your not using raid sata connectors. I have 5 connectors all the same color listed as sata2_0, sata2_1, sata2_2, sata2_3, and sata2_4 which according to my manual can all be used for sata or for raid depending on bios setting. (Done).

My current install says it is completing installation and has been setting in the same spot at the progress bar at the bottom #2 installing windows for over 90 minutes. I believe the install hung up again for whatever reason. Going to try again and recheck everything. Failed again taking motherboard, processor, and ram back to fry's tomorrow.

Update as of 12-20-09

I returned the gigabyte ga-ma785gmt. Ud2h, amd phenom ii x4 965 and 4 gig of corsair dual channel ddr3 1666+ back to fry's for store credit. Fry's said that due to the issues they suspect that the motherboard was bad. My new selection was asus m3n78-vm motherboard, amd phenom ii x4 965 processor, and kingston ddr2 2gb ram. I built the system and windows 7 loaded with no problems.

The bios and windows 7 recognized the sata 2 hard drive without even loading the sata driver at install. The system seems stable. I'm going to let it run overnight and see if i get any errors. My faith in windows 7 is restored.

Problem Install New Motherboard

I need to upgrade my motherboard, but unlike some, when i install it, it appears to be different enough from the previous board to just "update". Before anyone jumps, there is no oem license involved. I built the machine, and installed a retail xp, then later used an upgrade vista, and then more recently an upgrade win 7. I've tried the "start an upgrade, power off the machine on first reboot, swap board, let continue" but that hung transferring files/programs. Suggestions on how to get the os to update based on the new hal? I'll do a clean install if i have to, but how do i start it?

Ide Hard Drive Connected Via Usb To Ide/sata Adapter

I have an old maxtor 9 1303d6 ide drive which is connected via a usb to ide/sata adapter and an active usb hub. The device worked fine under vista 32 ultimate. After doing a clean install of windows 7 ultimate and subsequent updates, the device is no longer seen in windows explorer. Device manager does see the hard drive, but the usb controller section of devman now shows an unknown device.

(I suspect that this is the usb to ide/sata adapter) the device is accessible using a hard disk recovery utility which can read the maxtor drive. I've tried to unininstall/reinstall and have moved the adapter from port to another on the hub. The device returns a code 43 error and i've tried the suggested kb updates with no luck.

Hard Disk Cleanup

I did something dumb. I moved a program (not installed a program) to program files (not program files(x86)) of my local c hard disk. I realize it shouldn't be there and want it off. When i look at the instructions for disk clean up i get confused about what to choose and find that for suchááa potentially ruinous application the instructions are too simplistic. I don't want to ruin anything and want to be sure i'm doing the right thing first. I have windows 7 pro.

The program does not show up at the control paneláuninstall although the uninstall should be with the program. I can't find it anywhere. The program seems to work fine but i'd like to install it properly. Everything is working fine so i'd rather leave things as is if i would run a risk of any malfunctions. So if anyone out there can convince me on how to get rid of the offending program i'd bevery thankful.

Upgrade With New Hard Disk Drive

Vista 32 bit home premium (oem) to windows 7 64 bit home premium (upgrade) with new hard disk drive my current setup: i have a 2 year old hp laptop which came with windows vista home premium 32-bit pre-installed (oem). I have a partition on the hard disk that will allow me to 'restore' my system. I also received the 'restore' dvd from hp. I do not have the os re-installation dvd as this was oem (and hp doesn't give these out with their laptops) - i only have the 'restore' dvd / partition on the hdd.

I bought the windows 7 64-bit home premium (upgrade version) last summer when win 7 was released but have not had the time / courage to use it yet! (Laziness too!). Current problem: my laptop hdd is only 160gb and its already too full. This is what i want to do: i would like to replace my existing 160gb hdd with a new 500gb hdd and move from my existing vista 32-bit os to the new windows 7 64-bit os. If at all possible, i would like to do a clean install of windows 7 on
The new hdd instead of upgrading from vista to windows 7. Can this be done?

Hard Disk Space Unusable

I am using windows 7 32 bit edition on dell inspiron 1545. The specifications are
Intel core 2 duo
2 gb ram
250 gb hard disk

There is only one drive ( c drive ) in the partition. Only 232. 77 gb is allocated out of 250 gb. The problem is that 118 mb is unallocated. It was the oem's partition but i formatted it because i didnot knew what it was for. The left over 118 mb cannot be merged with 232. 77 gb. It only shows the option of creating new drive. On the other hand c drive does not show the option of extend volume. How can i use the 118 mb ?áDo i have to format ?

Change Hard Disk After Windows 7 Was Activated

Iáhave one hp desktop with vista 64, i upgraded it to win7 by the upgrade disk mailed to me. My hard disk is 500g seagate. Thanks for the 7200. 11 seagate bad reputation, i might need to change it, in case burned. My question is :

Can i re-do the upgrade win7 on a different hdd in the future and activate it, or i have to stick with the same hdd after the win7 activated. What about motherboard, can i change motherboard after win7 activated? Or i have to change my mb before the win7 activation. Or put it this way, after the win7 activated, can i still change all the hw parts, or some restriction applied?

Unable To Use 2 Hard Disk Through Usb Connection Simultaneously

Unable to use 2 external hard disk through usb connection simultaneously connected - with each disk of different capacity. When using 2 external hard drive one of 1 tb another of 2 tb on a single computer together - one of them gets recognized properly the other one does not get recognized. Inserting the same drives one at a time make them work fine. The drives are seagate freeagent drives.

The computer nearly hangs when the drive that is not properly recognized is accessed. If it does not hangs it may show situations such as drive needs to be formatted - or does not have any data etc. I am facing these on problems in two computers - one core 2 duo desktop pc using intel motherboard and running windows 2008 server (with all important updates applied) and another core 2 duo dell inspiron laptop intel chipset running windows vista home basic (with all important updates applied). I am sure it is driver issue - but the drivers are provided by microsoft not seagate here.

Error Message - Disk Is Corrupt Or Unreadable - External Hard Drive

Seagate freeagent go 500g external hard drive usable in xp professional works fine, but when i try to use it on windows 7. I get the error message "disk is corrupt or unreadable ". Installed windows professional x64 11/16/09. Everything works fine, all updated drivers for motherboard chipset. Tried everything, i can plug it into windows 7 pro x64 and get an immediate prompt to reformat, followed by disc is corrupt or unreadable. I can disconnect immediately and plug into a xp home computer and it works just fine.

Tried doing the security allow all users so its not locked from this new computer, didn't work, installing drivers hasn't worked, basically at a loss here, not enough room to back it up on the working computer, format on the new, and reinstall it on newly formatted hdd.

Win 7 Sees External Usb Hard Disk But Can't Access It

I'm using windows 7 home premium and had a power supply go out causing my computer to shut down in the middle of moving some large files to a fantom 1 tb external usb hard disk. I've got the system back up and running (after repairing the boot disk that had a corrupt boot sector) but when i plug in the external disk, windows won't allow me to access files. It does recognize the drive when i plug it in but if i go to properties and try to look at drive details or do disk maintenance, it gives an error message saying it can't access the drive. Also, the external drive is not partitioned.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the fat or partition table that got messed up when the power went out. I ran the easeus data recovery wizard-it was able to access the drive just fine and tells me the data is still there.

Any thoughts?
