How Do I Make My Win 7 Genuine ?

How do i make my windows 7 "genuine"? I purchased a non-upgrade windows 7 home premium oem and installed it on my system while i was working on some problems my computer was having. After i installed it, i decided that i needed to replace my motherboard and hard drive. I replaced these two items and reinstalled windows 7. Now, microsoft thinks that i tried to install this copy on two systems and is telling me that "the product key you typed cannot be used to activate windows on this computer. Error code: oxc004c008 the activation server determined that the specified product key could not be used. "

This isn't a second computer. It's the same computer with a fresh hard drive and motherboard. How can i get microsoft to recognize this and make this copy of windows "genuine"?

How To Make A Program Available To All Users?

How do i make a program available to all users if the program was installed for one user. Basically the problem is that i created another user account but only a few random applications show up on it and i'd really hate to have to reinstall some +50 programs so my computer can function normally on my secondary user account. I am able to locate many of the installed programs by snooping around in explorer and have been able to run a few by creating shortcuts, but many of them (spybot, itunes, google chrome, the list goes on!) Do nothing when the .exe is opened and are rendered useless (on that account).

Can I Make Office 2007 Run As In Xp?

I spent a great deal of money purchasing the fastest laptop on the market, as well as updating every feature that was upgradeable. I am running windows office home premium 7 with 8 gigabytes of ram on a 64 bit duo processor in the 3. 7gh range.

My problem is, i absolutely hate windows office 7. Is there some way where i can make it run as if it were windows xp as with other programs? I would hate to have to un-install the program and re-install office 2003 just because office 7 has was made virtually impossible to use, not to mention the $500. 00 i blew on it. Any help out there?

Make Aero Work On System Without Crashing

Is there a way to make aero work on my system without crashing it? I recently upgraded to win7 home premium. Install went smooth, but after logging in i kept getting a range of bsod stop messages at random intervals, including 0x0a, 0x24, 0x50, 0x3b (saw that one a lot), 0x7e, 0x7f. Occasionally they would be preceded by a charming notification that said "display driver stopped responding and has recovered, " but i soon learned that message was only a precursor to imminent failure. Sometimes it would go days without crashing, but other times it wouldn't go five minutes before bsod after bsod. I finally discovered that all my problems went away if i selected a basic (non-aero) desktop theme.

So what gives? I have an onboard graphic adapter, the intel g965 express chipset, which claims it is aero-capable. I have the latest driver for it and dxdiag says it's a wddm 1. 1 driver. Dxdiag also shows i have 358 mb total graphics memory (64mb system, 294mb shared). I'm not a gamer and have not run any graphics-intensive programs since this upgrade. I do like the "aero experience, " but it's causing major instability on my system.

Other system info, if it helps:

Dell xps 210 (model dxc061)
Intel core 2, 2. 4 ghz
2 gb ram

Windows 7 home premium 32-bit*, upgrade version**

*I actually loaded 64-bit first, but with all the crashes i thought maybe that was the problem, so after a couple weeks loaded the 32-bit version and found myself in the same boat as before.
**Technically, i loaded the oem-supplied vista os just long enough to use the windows 7 upgrade disc. I've never actually run with vista, so not sure if this is a problem with "aero" or with "windows 7 aero. " Anyway, i'm very happy with windows 7, and now that i'm not in danger of losing my work at any moment i can go about my business. But i will never be completely satisfied until i understand why my system doesn't support aero, or what i can tweak to make it work.

How To Make Disk Image And Avoid Licensing Issue?

My company wants to include laptops running windows 7 with a product we are selling. When we get these laptops, we often have to uninstall any bloat-ware, install our own software, and tweak some windows settings to get the machines in the state we'd like the consumer to receive it in.
. Very time-consuming process. It'd be nice if we could just have a master disk-image that we could apply to all the computers we receive.

However, this solution, i imagine, would cause some problems with windows licensing (as all comps receiving the image will technically have the same copy of windows). All the machines we receive have their own pre-installed versions of windows, so it'd be nice if there was some kind of imaging program that kept the windows-license on the machine, but changed everything else (windows settings, installed software. Etc. ).

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Backup Failed, Backup Drive No Longer Detected

Windows 7 kept bugging me about creating a backup, so i finally decided to. I chose to backup the default items onto my d: drive. I let it run, left for a bit and came back. It failed at 70ish%. Tried again. Same thing. I didn't have a whole lot of time left so i decided to just forget it.

I deleted the incomplete backup files on my d: drive (there was a c: backup file and mediaid. Bin) since there seemed to be no use for incomplete backup files.

When i got home and turned on my computer, post took longer than usual. My sata 2 drive was undetected. Sata 2 = my d drive. When windows starts to boot, it freezes when the windows animation is doing it's thing. I tried repairing and restoring from previously known good configuration and still nothing. I used my win7 disk to check for problems, and i even used that to restore to a point prior to my failed backups.

What else could i try? Why would my d: drive suddenly be undetected in bios, and why would a failed backup cause my windows installation to freeze? Edit: i unplugged the data cable from my d: drive and now windows boots. So deleting backup files royally screwed up my d: drive?

Dell Datasafe Local Backup Vs Windows Backup

I recently purchased a dell desktop with windows 7. One of the first things i did was configure all of my back-upsettings / schedule in windows. I used the recommended windows default settings in regards to what data is being backed up and set my back-up location to an attached external wd drive. All seems to be working fine. That said this machine also has dell factory installed back up software (dell datasafe local back-up) that does it's thing and backs up data to a partition on the "c" drive. My question is if i've set up windows to back up my data to an external drive do i even need the dell datasafe local back up program at all? The concern is this program is using space on my c drive and if the c drive were to crash having the back up info on it seems kind of pointless to me anyway.

Putting Hdd Into Raid 0 Make Nfr License Invalid?

Will putting my hdd's into raid 0 make my nfr license invalid? I have built my own desktop, and received a copy of windows 7 ultimate at the new efficiency seminar i attended in seattle. The dvd's inside are labeled as not for resale. I have a 1tb drive for storage, and would now like put my pair of 320gb drives (one of which is my current os drive) into raid 0 since i plan on doing some video editing on this system. The only change from the currently activated setup is the drive configuration.

The two drives in question will still be operating on the same controller, and in the same ports. What i am unsure of is whether or not this will be considered a change of hardware that would necessitate acquiring a new copy of windows 7 for this machine. That would stop my ability to make the change at this time as i cannot currently afford a retail box of windows 7 ultimate, or even professional, which is the cheapest edition i can use now. The only hardware purchases i can justify at this time would make acquiring an oem version cost more than a retail box. Will my nfr copy of windows 7 ultimate still be able to activate?

Win 7 Backup

I have several questions in regards to backing up data & system image from a a new windows 7 laptop to an external hard drive.

First, after loading my data files and applications to the new machine, i used the control panel>system and security>backup route to backup everything to an external hard drive. This backup failed due to the fact that i had created a new library called my work that i had created for containing my professional files (i.e. Autocad drawings, word documents). Once i moved my professional files to one of the factory libraries, and deleted the new library folder i had created, the backup process succeeded. Why is this, and what is the point of being able to create a new library if it causes the backup process to fail?

Second, when attempting to perform a subsequent backup a week later, this backup failed because the external hard drive i was backing up to apparently was not big enough. However, i was backing up approximately 140 gb of used space from the computer's 450 gb internal hard drive to an external 300 gb hard drive that had received the previous successful (and failed) backups from the week before, also of about the same size transfers. Is the backup process not incremental, or due i have to purge the external hard drive before each backup to create the space for a new backup?

Must i delete previous windows 7 backup from my external hard drive to create space for new back, or will new backup write over previous backup?

Microsoft Backup

I am new to windows 7. I have recently bought a video camera and after editing the videos end up in the videos library. I have set my computer to back up weekly using the automatic backup system on the computer but for some reason it will not backup the videos - comes up 'xxxxxx path not found'. If i take the videos out of the library the back up works perfectly and i then back the videos up manually but i am curious as to why i cannot back them up using the automated system - would it be because the file sizes are too large?

Cannot Backup To Dvd

I have a compaq presario cq6-215dx notebook pc on which i have clean installed windows 7. (Originally the system came with vista installed). ". 1342 times in the last 24 hrs? This can't be the dvds. I am using sony dvd+rw, 1-4x discs. I've gone through numerous discs and refuse to keep wasting discs.could tis be a controller error. Dvd drive problem. Or a problem with the backup program.

Backup Before Upgrade

I've got an hp - got the window 7 upgrade assistant disk from hp directly for purchasing the hp new from best buy before windows 7 came out. So - beginning to start the upgrade and it says in instructions specifically do not use windows complete pc backup program from the back up and restore center to create your personal date file backups. The program only allow complete computer image restoration, and windows 7 cannot access the stores data files. Great - so, ah, what the heck do i use to back up my computer? Please advise. Not wanting to spend any money on this - just want to back up files onto a cd.

Backup Is Slow

I have been backing up my files for almost 5 hours now! It's on its second dvd now and is at 61%. The percentage does move but very slowly! Why is it taking so long? Is there a problem or something, and if there is how do i fix it? Thanks everyone!Edit: i just got the following message when it was 63% complete: "windows backup found errors on the media while saving a backup on it and cannot use it for additional backups" then it asked me to put in another dvd, which i did.

Now it has continued backing up and is at 63% still. Ok, so how did it find errors on the dvd, when it was a brand new dvd? So should i still keep that dvd? I have been having issues with windows backup for the past 2-3 months and its really annoying!

Backup So Slow

I have a brand new dell pc (intel i7 processor) running windows 7 home premium 64-bit. (Oem)
I have about 350gb of data that i have transfered onto the new pc. I have tried running windows 7 backup to two different external drives. It seems to take 24 or more hours to run a backup with windows 7.

On my old pc with vista it took 3-4 hours to backup the same data to the same drives
I can drag and copy files to a portable drive in about 3 hours

Here is what i did:
External drive shows 99% free space.
Ran error check on both pc and external drive.
Used settings for automatic fix file system error as well as attempt recover of bad sector.

Pc is running normally.
Power state is normal.
No other programs running.
Logged in as administrator  (i have no other uses. Just me as administrator)
Opened windows 7 backup.
Select "let me choose" what to back up.
Chose local disk "c" and "include a system image" box
Executed backup

This process should take a few hours, not a day.

What else can i try to speed up the windows 7 backup process?

Cannot Get Backup To Work

Just set up a new windows 7 64 bit system. When i try to run "set up backup" i get a window that says "starting windows backup - please wait while windows backup starts, " but nothing ever happens. Just hangs on that. If i x out, it changes to "canceling" and hangs on that. When i ultimately go to task manager to end it, it says not responding.
I just want to set up an automatic backup to an external drive nightly, but i can't seem to get to step one. Anyone else having this issue?

P. S. Problem details:

I do have another backup program installed - iomega automatic backup pro. I had that on my old xp system, and it transferred when i transferred to the new windows 7 system. The problem is that it doesn't work with windows 7 (which is why i am trying to use windows backup. ) I tried to uninstall it, but a window opens that says "preparing to uninstall, " and it just hangs at that - also not responding. I guess since the program doesn't work with windows 7, neither does the uninstall -
Or maybe it can't find the uninstall log. Is there a way to locate the actual executable that will uninstall iomega automatic backup pro? Or some other way to uninstall it?
Btw, i tried clean boot and had the same problem even with all startup items and services disabled (other than microsoft services and anti virus - i could not disable antivirus). Also tried the system check and found no problems.

More info: i booted in diagnostic mode and tried to uninstall. After activating windows installer, i tried to uninstall automatic backup pro. Instead of hanging, i got "the install script engine on this machine is older than the version required to run this setup. If available, please install the latest version of isscript. Msi. " So i think the isscript. Msi file is probably newer than that required, not older, but either way the installer doesn't recognize it. Is there a way to uninstall with xp scripts?

Backup And Restore

I just upgraded to windows 7 from vista. I had backed up my program files and data on dvd's prior to upgrading to windows 7. Now i want to restore them in windows 7, but i am unclear of the location of where i should be restoring them. If i pick the original location, it tells me that the file already exists in that location, and do i want to replace, copy or keep both copies; if i choose a different location, i have no idea where they should go. Do i make a new folder, or just have them restored in c drive. I am not sure how to proceed. Can anyone explain this for me please?

Backup Failed

I have three external drives, that were backed up each night on a vista machine by whs. I purchased a new machine, with win 7, and moved the drives to the new machine. I then installed the connector for whs, and configured the back up. Each night the back up backs up the hard drive on the new machine, but fails on the external drives. I moved them back to the old machine and they back up fine. When i move them back to the win7 machine, the internal harddrive backs up, but the external drives will not anymore. Does whs put a file to connect the drives to certain machine or something? How do i get the drives to back up some the new machine?

I also moved an internal drive from the old machine to and it does the same thing.

Cannot Do Network Backup Of Computers

I was able to do a network backup using vista. Now with windows 7 home premium i am unable. Why was this change made. I have 5 computers networked and i don't want to go out and buy an external drive for each computer. Why the change? I cannot do a network back up of my 5 computers that are now running windows 7 premium. If i had known that i could not backup to a network drive, i would have bought the new version.
