Explorer.exe Freeze Playing Logoff Sound

I want to take my machine in for service and want to be able to make sure the repair person knows what they're doing before i let them mess with it. I have had my dell xps studio 64bit for less than a month. Have installed minimal additional programs besides what it came with and when using explorer it has frozen on several occasions forcing me to shut the whole computer down and then displays this error with the only option to force the program to close. (Waiting for) explorer.exe playing logoff sound.

What exactly is wrong? And how can it be fixed? Thank you so much for your help. As you can see i'm very frustrated and concerned that i just spent a lot of money on something that is not working properly.

Mouse Freeze Only When Playing Game

When i play a game, my mouse start malfunctioning and after a minute or two, it freeze completely. The game run really good, the keyboard work fine as well because i can keep playing the game, it's just that i can't use my mouse. As soon as i go back to my desktop using alt-tab, the mouse suddenly works just fine. Then i go back to my game, the mouse work for a couple of seconds then it freeze again. I cant click and i cant move it.

I used to play games before without experiencing any problems. I don't see what i could have installed on my computer that suddenly cause this problem. The problem affect all my games (far cry 2, left 4 dead 2, bioshock). I tried to uninstall all window updates and all programs installed since the first time i experienced the problem, but it didn't solve anything. Please help me. I use window 7 64 bit.

Flash Player Causes Internet Explorer And Firefox To Freeze

Every time i open chess titans my computer blue screens hard drives running through ide disappear. When flash drive plugged in adobe flash player causes both internet explorer and firefox to freeze. Windows 7 professional 64bit, p5w dh-deluxe motherboard q6600 2. 4 ghz processor 2 gb g. Skill 800mhz memory, geforce 8800 gts video card, 10, 000 rpm hard drive, ultra 1, 600watt power supply w/ 117 amps on 12v rail ect. All windows updates and newest drivers on everything.

I have multiple possibly unrelated problems. First, every time i open chess titans my computer blue screens (doesn't actually show the blue screen) just flips off and back on. I am running the minimum amount of ram for windows 7 x64 but i will play hard core games fine. I uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Second, i have 2 hard drives running through ide (non raid) they work fine until i plug in my flash drive then they disappear i can't even find them under disk management.

My flash drive is formatted in ntfs and is 64gb so possibly windows in recognizing it as a hdd. Finally, adobe flash player causes both internet explorer and firefox (whichever one has the page open) to freeze when loading certain web pages eg. Pandora.com  some pages work fine like adobe (it says flash player was successfully installed) but most pages do not. Any ideas?

Problem Recording & Playing Sound

I have a gateway nv53 notebook with windows 7 home prem. I installed ventrilo, and i sounded choppy to everyone. This set off several weeks of trouble shooting and tinkering with every possible combination of settings i could find, and nothing helped. I was sure there was some problem with some setting on vent, but i decided to try using the sound recorder under accessories and playing it back with wmp. Every recording i made (10 total, about 1 min long each) came through horribly choppy. I would sound normal and clear for about 5 seconds, then there would be a quick clicking sound where you couldn't hear anything i was saying, and after that i would sound extremely low. Then another clicking sound and i sound normal for a second before another clicking sound puts me back low or sometimes ridiculously loud. I tried my external mic, which works perfect on other computers, and the built-in mic on the notebook. I don't know where to go from here. I don't know if i should be trying to update some drivers or codecs or what?

Explorer.exe Uses Too Much Memory

My computer is running windows 7 home premium, 32-bit. I just discovered yesterday that my explorer.exe was literally chomping thousands of thousands of kb of memory just to run. (Going to task manager -> processes). Before, it would take, at most, about15, 000-17, 000 kb to run. Now, the only things i know of that are in explorer.exe are the background slideshow i had running, the gadgets, and the my computer/library windows i had open.

I have 1 gadget, a slideshow of 16 images, and two folder windows open. Before, i had 15-20 windows open and sometimes 40 slideshow images and 10 gadgets running at the same time and the memory still wasn't so high. This morning, it ate up 1, 432, 226 kb (1. 4 gb of memory) just to run. I was kinda scared, so i switched it to only one wallpaper, 1 gadget (the clock one), and no folder windows open. It still ran up to 125, 000kb. Does anybody have similar problem/solution?

I need more memory to make skype calls and use firefox. They keep crashing because i don't have enough memory. Even if i lower the priority of the process it still stays at a crazy level and actually, if i leave it be, it uses more and more memory every minute.

Explorer.exe Is Crashing

My system was infected yesterday by one of those fake antivirus programs. Usually i am able to get rid of it fairly easily. I run spybot search and destroy as well as defender. It seemed to have removed the problem. I restarted the computer and now i am having issues. Explorer will not load on it's own. All i get is a black screen with a mouse pointer in the middle. I used alt-ctrl-delete to start the wtm and explorer through it. But i am unable to open any folders.

After clicking on any folder it takes about 30sec for a message to popup stating: "server execution failed". I can start start most programs through wtm, but i want to run the disk check to see if there are errors. Is there anything i can do? Or should i reinstall? I would hate to do that, but if it's the only option.

Sound Drivers Error - Media Player Encountered A Problem While Playing The File

Whenever i try to play a digital copy of a movie on wmp i get the error message "windows media player encountered a problem while playing the file". When i click on the one link it tells me to update my sound drivers. They are already up-to-date. The videos won't even show up in my library or zune software. Any idea what the problem is?

Explorer.exe Stops Working

Double clicking on my computer icon usually displays the explorer page. In my case it hangs for ever and if you shut it down it displays the message explorer stopped working, resets the entire desktop and restarts. Same if i use the windows key + e. What is interesting is that i can see the contents of my computer using the link of my documents without a problem. I have tried turning off indexing, repair using command line sfc /scannow (as administrator) no problem found, and fix it for internet explorer. I would appreciate any help / advise.

Explorer.exe Using 50-100% Cpu

I've noticed this for a few weeks. In task manager, explorer.exe shows as using 50-100% cpu, and programs seem to run more slowly. This reliably starts when i open an "explorer window". It will also start if i use msconfig to disable everything (except microsoft services). I have booted into safe mode and run malwarebytes anti-malware - nothing found.

I then ran process explorer, and discovered that the thread which seems to be responsible is called (has a start address) nttdll.dll!Etwtracemessageva+0x130. There may be one or two of these threads present, each using 48%+cpu.

I believe these are responsible, and i think they are used in some kind of event logging, possibly a debugger that somehow got turned on, but i don't know how to proceed from this point.

System:
Intel core2 email removed for privacy
8gb ram
Windows 7 professional 64 bit

Explorer.exe Freezes Constantly

I'm having a major problem with explorer.exe. After ~10 min. Of starting my computer explorer.exe freezes. No option comes up to restart, end, or wait until it responds like normally when a program freezes. I cannot open windows task manager when this happens (no ctrl+alt+delete, when i try to do this it doesn't open up). All programs become unresponsive (taskbar, start menu, web browser, game, etc. ). The only thing i can do is hold the power button on my computer and turn it off. Knowing that turning off your computer this way is very unhealthy for the computer i need to get this problem fixed.

Solutions i have tried (but failed):waiting for the "explorer.exe has stopped responding" box to appear (never appeared even after leaving the computer on overnight). Sfc /scannow (found all files to be ok) scanning for viruses, malware, etc. (I have used malwares bytes anti malware, eset nod 32, and superantispyware. None detected any malware, viruses, etc. )All of the solutions listed here system information:type of computer: laptop manufacturer: hp model: hp pavilion dv6700 os: windows 7 home premium x86 if you need any more info on the problem feel free to ask in the comment section.

Replacing Explorer.exe File For Themes

I downloaded a new theme for windows 7, however, i am nervous about replacing the explorer.exe file as instructed. By default, i would think that's a bad idea. But since i'm still learning my way around windows 7, i'm not sure if this is supported as i can't seem to find anything on microsoft's site saying that it's acceptable or not. Has anyone done this when installing new themes in windows 7?

Can't Open Explorer.exe, Control Panel, Or Help

Brand new windows 7 computer - can't open explorer.exe, control panel, or help. Can't see or save to c: or d: drives. Got the computer last night, and it worked fine. But tonight i can only access ie, media player, etc.

I only have the default user account at this point, so i have admin rights. I haven't really done much yet since i just got the computer last night. I was going to transfer files from my old vista computer tonight, but i can't even open up explorer on my new windows 7. I tried rebooting, but it didn't help. I also ran the sfc; it did not find any integrity violations.

When i click on the folder icon on the task bar, i get a dialog box with a heading of "explorer.exe" and a message stating "windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. " If i try to print a web page to xps, it doesn't commit the save on the c: drive (os and program files) or on the d: drive (data).

I have no idea why it is doing this! It is a brand new system. Last night i installed windows updates and changed the desktop background. I haven't installed any programs or transfered data. And it was just fine last night; this problem started when i turned it on tonight.

Services Explorer.exe Don't Work

I have windows 7 32 bit home edition installed, when i start my computer after logging in there is a message that says "c:windowssystem32system profile desktop not accessible, check user-name and password. " In the middle of the screen and my desktop is all black with no icons. In the lower right hand corner a bubble that says something along the lines of "could not connect to user profile service, this may prevent normal users from logging in" pops up as well. Anything i try to run either does not respond or says "the server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect.

Check user name and password.initially i did a clean boot and it brought back my desktop and allowed some programs to run (such as eclipse, skype, calculator and others) but i was still unable to get explorer.exe to run. However this no longer works although this functionality will come back seemingly randomly at times. The only thing i can think of to fix my computer is to re-install win 7 but i don't have a disk, i only have the download on my computer and last time my desktop came back i tried to run it but i got the "this service cannot be started" message. Safe mode works, there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it other than the fact that it is safe mode and doesn't have full functionality.

I can't do a system restore as it seems i accidentally turned it off at some point and there are no restore points. I have tried sfc /scannow with no success. I tried looking for problems with registry keys but i haven't been able to find instructions on how to fix possible problems related to this in win 7 and seemingly similar problems in xp/vista don't seem to have the same structure for registry keys. Does anyone have any ideas as to what i can do? I'm at a loss and can't think of any thing else to try.

Explorer.exe Crash - Win 7 Pro X64

I'm having some problems lately with my windows 7 pro x64. About 2 weeks ago explorer.exe(the shell, not iexplorer.exe) start crashing without a (obvious) reason. A few days later i noticed that this problems usually but not always occurs when i'm using visual studio 2008. After explorer.exe crashes, every time i try to right click on the desktop or an opened folder, it crashes again. However this doesn't happen if i right click a folder(icon not inside the opened folder). Since this problem appeared out of the blue, i first suspected a virus or other malware so i did a full system scan with my norton 360 without finding anything. The second thing i did is to check every software installed short before the problems appeared. Except a few system updates the only apps i installed this month were metro 2033 and a video driver update. I removed the game and rolled back the driver to the previous installation but the problem persisted. Since after the first crash i can't right click anymore i checked every single non microsoft shell extension installed(adobe extensions, winrar, winamp, xnview, folder highlight, nvidia control panel, norton scan, alchool 120% and a few more - i know i have a lot of extensions but i never had a problem with this before neither on windows xp nor windows vista).

I also tried every single solution provided on this forum or any other ms forum or any other windows 7 forum i could find but nothing worked. Since i run out of options i replaced ntdll.dll and explorer.exe with the files from my hp laptop running same windows and 80% of my desktop apps(except games and drivers) but no effect again. The only thing i didn't do is to remove every update installed this month. I also performed a hdd test, ram test, vga test and cpu test and every thing is fine. (I had some technical problems with my pc so i ended up by changing my mother board and video card so i thought it's a hardware problem again). So, so far. Everything i know about this error is the info provided by event viewer and reliability monitor.

Here is the info provided by event viewer and reliability monitor:/*faulting application name: explorer.exe, version: 6. 1. 7600. 16450, time stamp: 0x4aebab8d

Multiple Instances Of Explorer.exe Running In Task Manager

There are multiple instances of explorer.exe running in task manager (currently 7), each one using between 10-40mb of memory. I've never seen this in any previous version, and it doesn't look right to me. Different explorer.exe processes are using cpu resources at different times. I remember reading a while back that this could be a sign of a virus, but i've done a full scan with nis 2010 and nothing showed up. Can anyone give me pointers where to start investigating?

I did a clean install of windows 7 last friday -formatted hdd and all, so there hasn't been much time for anything bad to happen!

Hang During Profile Logoff

On occasion when i perform a logoff from a secondary profile under windows 7 the pc hangs. The logoff seems to work, but then either windows or the pc hang. I've tried alt ctrl delete with no success. I dont hear any disk activity, but that doesn't mean anything. I have to power the pc off manually, wait a minute then power it back on. Sometimes it asks how to restart windows and sometimes it performs a normal startup. The pc is an hp pavilion pc6230y. Anyone have a similar issue?

Logging Off Hangs / Logoff Issue

I have upgraded my dell e1505 laptop from vista to windows 7 home premium. Everything seems to work except when i try to shut down the system, when the system reaches logging off state, it remains in that state indefinitely. At this time i have to force down shutdown by pushing the laptop on/off button. In the next bring up, the windows complains that the system did not shutdown properly.

I have turned off all start-up program (from msconfig) and problem is still there. I have created a new user with a new profile, and the same thing applies. The shutdown works only if i start up the system in safe mode, and the shut down. Otherwise, the logging off message hangs. Any idea?

Remote Desktop Hangs On Logoff

When trying to logoff from a remote desktop session to any host (vista, 2008 server, 2003 server, xp), the remote desktop window hangs - the rdp window stays open and the screen is stuck at the 'logging off' message or a blank black window is displayed. You have to end task the session in task manager to close the window.

Yes, my rdp session does log me out. We've seen this behavior on both windows 7 and vista (both are x64). The av version we're using is sep mr5. We have local admin rights on our workstations. Windows firewall is enabled. Ll windows updates are up-to-date. Disabling and re-enabling 3rd party startup items didn't solve it. Also, these are on lenovo thinkpad notebooks.

Error - Logonui Exe No Disk - Outlook Exe No Disk

I have windows 7 professional running 64 bit. A very annoying error pops up every five minutes or so. The message varies and can read "logonui exe no disk" or "outlook exe no disk" or "your favorite app. - No disk" depending on what i am running at the time. I have looked at many forums and can see that this error occurred in previous windows flavors. Some answers point to malware or infected file, others seem to think it's a corrupt install file. I have a fresh install of win 7. My previous os being xp.

I have reinstalled win7 and tried repair functions. No luck so far.

Mouse Issues While Playing Games

I used to run windows vista 64 bit home premium on this laptop, but ever since upgrading to windows 7 64 home premium, i've noticed issues with my mouse. Primarily while i'm playing a game, it will have these moments where the mouse will either become completely unresponsive, or while i'm turning ((usually in first person games)) that it'll look like my screens clipping horribly, i can't control it. It tends to happen every 2 to 3 minutes or so, it's very consistent, but it only lasts for about 3 or 4 seconds. Even in this short window that it happens however, it ruins whatever i'm doing at the moment, it's extremely frustrating. Has anybody else had this issue or does somebody know what i can do to rectify this issue?

Playing Itunes On Media Player

What is the procedure for getting my itunes to show & play with windows media player? Some albums are visible and i have no problem playing them or sync-ing them with my cell phone that is running 6. 5. However the majority of the albums i can not figure out how to get them and all of their songs to be visible in wmp. In some cases, only 1 or 2 songs out of the album will be visible.

I have searched and can not find any distinction between the itunes albums/songs that are visible in wmp and those that are not. I have tried everything that i can think of in terms of sharing and folder/library settings, but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Bsod 0x1e When Playing Media

I'm using win7 home premium 64-bit. About 80% - 90% of the time i try to play a media file my machine goes bsod with code 0x1e. This happens with all types video formats when played in vlc or window media player locally, and when playing streaming video online using either explorer or firefox. It's even happened a few times while surfing and downloading.

Winamp plays mp3's and shoutcast tv with no problems. The last 8 crash dumps all indicate stop code 0x1e with 0's in all 4 parameter fields, however, the source varies: hal.dll, ndis.sys, ntoskrnl, and dxgkrnl.sys. When i was using winxp and win7 rc with the same hardware i never had a problem. All my 64-bit drivers and applications are up to date. Any ideas?
