File Sharing On Win 7

I have recently installed windows 7 on my pc. I have a ton of music and photos that i would like to be able to share. We recently got set up with at&t uverse, and there is an interactive feature on uverse that allows you to access your music and photos from your network. When i go to this feature in uverse, i am able to see that my pc is connected, but i am unable to access any of my folders that contain music or photos. At one point, i was able to access them, but i installed another hdd in my pc with more music and while i was trying to get everything set to share, things disappeared from uverse.

I have gone to my computer and right clicked on the music library that i want to share, i selected share with specific people, and included my homegroup. I gave the homegroup read / write access, but the files still do not show up on uverse. I would appreciate any insight on sharing or any insight on how to use with at&t uverse.

For instance all my photos are stored in my pictures on my login and i would like to share this folder with my wife's login. I have tried all the "share with" options but noting seems to work. They all talk about sharing on a home network but i don't have a network, only one laptop. Please help before i blow a fuse!

Setting Up File Sharing

Two desktops both running windows 7 home premium. Got it set up once and it worked great. Then due to problems on pc 2 i did a clean install of windows 7 home premium. The files that i am trying to share reside on pc1. I have the homegroup set up on it and set several files to share and then selected read/write for those files. Printed out the key and went to pc2 to set it up.

Did as instructed on control panel but there is no network and internet but went into network. Thats when it gets crazy as it seems that in trying to join now and put in the password from pc1 it prints out its own password on the screen and says that there are no members in the homegroup.could someone help or point me to a document to read and use?

File Sharing Not Working

I have had the files on my vista home premium desktop set up for over a year as shared files. I could always access them from my laptop. I recently got a new laptop with windows 7 and it immediately could access the files and make changes to them. Today , all of a sudden the files on my desktop are now read only. I go to documents folder and there is a check make in "read only". I unchecked the box and click apply and another dialogue box comes up asking me to click ok to make these shared files.

I click ok and another little window appears and shows progress as attributes of every file in documents is being adjusted. However after that task completes and i go to look at documents properties -the read only box is still checked. I have restarted the desktop and tried to make the change 3 times but no success. If i go to network setting there is a green check mark for file sharing on. Does anyone have any recommendations as to how to fix this.

The only new software put on the laptop has been microsoft home and student office but i don't see where that should have affected anything.

File Sharing Network Issues

I have three computers running on my network. 2 computer have windows 7 ultimate 64bit and 1 has windows vista ultimate 32bit. One of the computers is wireless (windows 7) the other 2 are wired. When i first turn on my wireless computer i have full internet and file sharing connections. I continue to have full connections until about about a half hour or until i lock that computer. Then when i start to use that computer again i have internet connections but my file sharing connections are messed up. I only can share files with the windows vista computer. When i try to access and share files with the other windows 7 computer it says windows cannot access.

I try and click diagnose but it cannot find anything wrong with it. Can anyone help me find out what is wrong with this? The only other way i can start to share files with both computers is to either restart my computer or go into computer management disable and then re enable my network card (that seems to work most of the time). My router and wireless card are only about a year and a half old. It is a linksys speed booster brand. Wrt54gs i think.

Firewall Blocking File Sharing

Came into the office today (two computers on the network) and one of the computers could not see the other on the network (it was not a problem the other way around). I went through some troubleshooting, and figured out it was the firewall on the one computer blocking access. The firewall is controlled by macafee virus protection. So, i turned off the firewall, and bingo, i can now see each computer from both directions. The problem is now i don't have any firewall protection. Any reason the settings on the firewall would have been different today than they were yesterday, and how do i turn the firewall back on while allowing the file sharing to continue on as before over the network?

The File And Printer Sharing (smb) Problem

The device or resource (pc name) is not setup to accept connections on port "the file and printer sharing (smb)". Long enough i have suffered with this problem, hopefully this will be the place that is able to solve it. A while ago, when i installed windows 7, the file sharing feature just worked fine. Thought since a month, maybe 2 its not working at all. I have 2 pc's. One laptop with windows xp 64-bit, one main pc with windows 7 64-bit (windows 7 ultimate n build 7600).

The problem: i have file sharing turned on, thought i cannot access the desktop pc from my laptop. (Not by name nor ip address). On the desktop pc itself, i cannot look into the shared files (which are on the same pc!). The ironical part of this is that is does show what files are shared (and this updates correctly) thought it wont show the content. Also the desktop pc cannot see any other pc on the network, thought they all have the same workgroup. The laptop is able to see and access other windows xp pc's who are in the same network, but not the desktop (windows 7) pc.

Some tests i did:
#1 from my laptop i can ping to my desktop.
#2 from my desktop i can ping to my laptop.
#3 i uninstalled northon ghost (even with the removal tool), no changes.
#4 i turned off eset nod32, windows firewall and windows defender, no changes.
#5 i uninstalled the drivers of my network card and reinstalled them, no changes.
#6 i checked if the serveces started that might have something to do with this:
-> "Computer browsing" -> started
-> "Ssdp discovery" -> started
-> "Tcp/ip netbios helper" -> started
-> "Server" -> started

#7 when i turn on network discovery, it will automatically go back to "off". (I used to be able, when all worked, to turn this on!)

#8 set pc back to a restore point 20 days ago (this unfortunately was the earliest i could find, thought even on that date i had problems. )
Change sharing options for different network profiles is configured as following:
Home & work (current profile)
Turn off network discovery (! I cant turn this on !)
Turn on file and printer sharing
Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write.
Media streaming is off (also with "on", no changes)
Use 128-bit encryption to help. (Also with "40- or 56-bit", no changes.
Allow windows to manage homegroup connections
Errors:
#1 when i open network, it shows my desktop pc only in the list. (I used to have all the pc's in the list)
#2 when i click my desktop pc's name, it shows which folders are shared: "some folder" & "users" are shared.
#3 when i click eighter of these folders i get the notification: "windows cannot access jeffreyusers"
#4 when i click "diagnose" it shows: "the remote device or resource won't accept the connection" and "the device or resource (jeffrey) is not set up to accept connections on port "the file and printer sharing (smb)". "

Solution: the problem is caused by a corrupted file.

The dns client and the dhcp client rely on 3 processes in windows 7: "nsi, tdx and afd" (can be found in the registry, see 2nd post of mine for location). If the dhcp client wont start, it might be, because of one of these files. By entering the command: "net start nsi"  (and tdx, and adf) you can find out if they work or not. In my case the tdx process wouldn't start.

Using shinmila h. 2nd post, you can find out if the file is corrupted, and replace them with a non corrupted one. In my case the tdx.sys file was totally empty, and following the tutorial of shinmila h. 2nd post link, i was able to replace the file, with a file of my friend. (I couldn't find it on the installation dvd).

Once the file has been replaced, the service would start normally again. (Manually, or automatically on restart) who knows what i have to do, to make windows sharing possible again, between a windows 7 and a windows xp pc.

File Sharing Between Xp With Office And Win 7 With Ms Works

File sharing between windows xp with microsoft office and windows 7 with microsoft works word processor and spreadsheets. I work for a small non-profit and just opened our first office. We received a donated rebuilt pc with microsoft xp office products which were compatible with what i had been using at home. Just received an new dell inspiron with windows 7 and the microsoft works programs installed. The systems are wirelessly networked to share files.

However, the new system will not install many of the existing logo images installed in our forms, and when they do install they aren't proportional or different colors. And formatting is often lost in the . Wps files.

I have been able to open files, edit and then re-save in the .doc format, but it is time consuming and doesn't solve the formatting or image issues. I have not been able to figure out how to run the compatibility software.

Printer Sharing

I have upgraded a machine to win7 - it has the printer connected by usd. My main machine is still vista ultimate so i have not yet been able to use homegroup. The vista machine can see the win7 (its part of the workgroup) and i can access all users and files (interestingly though in explorer i have 2 instances of this pc showing?)

In explorer i see a printers folder but nothing in it. Under network and sharing i see my canon printer too. However when i click it i get error 0x00000709. I have tried to follow the instructions on another post but they are all about adding an xp machine not a vista machine.

Sharing Problem

I am using win7 home prem and am connected to a microsoft lan. The other computers on the network are using xp and win98. I can see all the others on the network, can share files with xp machines but i can only open files on the win98 machines if they are set to read only. If i set the files to full access and set a password win7 asks for a password but will never accept the correct password. All my advanced sharing settings seem to be correct including turn off password protected sharing.

Troubleshoot Sharing

I used to have the following setup with 2 xp boxes, following the guideline at

http://www.Practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_filesharing/index.htm

Group: home box a has account x and ybox b has account y, password of y is the same as on abox a shares folder mp3, permits y to read itbox b then opens amp3, without a password, this has worked for years, until i upgraded a to win7 64 bit. First, b loss access to a if a resumes from hibernation. Someone suggests that i should use "work network" in stead of "home network" since i am mixing win7 and xp.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/networking-home-computers-running-different-versions-of-windows

I followed the suggestion and things got a lot worse: b can no longer access any shared folder from a. B will get a logon prompt in stead. When the same account x and password is entered, logon will fail - the prompt appears again immediately. I switched it back to home group. Same. Switched group, reboot; switch it back, reboot. Same. On a, event viewer shows log on and log off from b. Nothing unusual. How can i troubleshoot this one?

Homegroup Sharing Only One Way

I just installed windows 7 on my laptop and desktop computers. I set up a homegroup easily and it works great as i access info on my desktop from my laptop. However, my desktop cannot see any information on my laptop. I have tried shutting off my antivirus and firewalls on both computers, have tried leaving, rejoining, and creating a whole new homegroup.

Nothing seems to work. These are two clean installs aside from avg 9 and now some miscellaneous programs i have, but nothing big as they are new. Any ideas? I am running a netgear wgt624 v3 router. My desktop is running windows 7 pro and my laptop is running home premium. They both have plenty of power.

Firewall And Sharing

I have a program that is unable to work while windows 7 firewall is enabled. I have tried restoring the firewall to default and then repeatably allowing the program access. I have tried the more advanced options and they still do not work. I have resorted to installing a third party software firewall and behold i have found out i cannot disable windows 7 firewall and disable network sharing and file sharing. This is super poor design. I do not want networking sharing or file sharing on at all. What am i supposed to do in this situation?

Homegroup Printer Sharing

I run two machines in my office - one a laptop the other a sun workstation. The laptop has windows 7 home edition installed the sun workstation windows 7 pro'. I have setup successfully a home group on both machines i have both visible on each machine. I can share files on both machines.

I have two printers - hp1300 laserjet1300 & epson styles dx 4800 series installed on the sun system
They both work there very well via the usb ports. The problem is that i cannot get the laptop to configure these printers - even though it sees them. I think it appears to be a question of access & permissions, not that sure. At any rate when i attempt to install the network printer it always fails to find a driver - no amount of manual direction from me can overcome its very stubborn resistance to demands. It can also not find the path or even the printer.

Messages i get are :

Windows cannot access \(computername)cwindowssystem32spoolprinters
You do not have permission to access (above path) contact your network administrator
To request permissions

When i select a printer when both are listed as choice on install a network printer option, both listed with their correct computer & share names. I have even tried trying to install them as local printers and manually selecting a local port in order to for a connection, but always i get an error message saying incorrect share names etc. I have no experience of administration rights or allowable permissions, must be the problem. Everything is ticked as allowed in homegroup setup. The printers are annotated as sharing allowed. I am stumped any ideas you out there ?

Printer Sharing Through Xp To Win7

Alright, here's what i have:

- Desktop 1 - windows 7 64x bit: there is now printer device on this computer.
- Laptop 1 - windows xp 32x bit: there is a printer connected to this computer through a specific printer port. (This is an older printer).
- Laptop 2 - windows vista 64x bit: there is a newerd, usb port printer connected to this computer.

All these computers are connected to the same network, however, the laptops are connected to my router wirelessly, while my destop is connected through an ethernet cat 5 cable.

Here's my problem. I'm having trouble finding a way to share both these printers (from laptop 1 and 2) with my windows 7 computer. I've tried almost everything. There has to be a way for me to connect both these printers to this computer. Here's what i've done so far:

I went to "devices and printers" >> "add a printer", i found the printer on laptop 1, but i was unable to find the printer on laptop 2. I setup the printer from laptop 1, and it said it installed the drivers, but when i try printing something, nothing happens. There's one problem. Like i mentioned before, i was unable to find the newer printer from laptop 2. I tried typing in the computer name, and searching for it manually, and still, nothing comes up.

Sharing Media With Ps3

I have upgraded my notebook to 7 business edition. And before when i was using vista i have always been able to use the sharing files feature to stream media and play on my ps3. I have no idea why after i installed windows 7 it wouldn't let my ps3 find my notebook. I have already set the sharing option on the "video" folder. And sometimes the ps3 will recognize my notebook, but for some reason, it won't be able to access any files. It will display that the file is corrupted. And then after a few minutes, the ps3 will not be able to recognize my notebook again.

Can anyone tell me how to resolve this problem? I am using dd-wrt160n router with custom firmware (i forgot which one).

Trouble Sharing With Xp And Vista

I have followed every tutorial imaginable on how to set up windows 7 to share files with windows vista, or windows xp, for that matter.

Currently, my windows xp computer can see neither the windows 7 or the windows vista computer. If i click "view workgroup computers" i get an error that says "workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use the network resource.contact the administrator of the server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found. ".

The vista and windows 7 computers can see one another, however, cannot access any of the folders that are set to shared on the network. Both of them spit back errors of network path not found. The folders are set to shared for "everyone" with "full access, " and even still cannot access the appropriate folders.

My windows 7 desktop can easily view the shared -drives- set up on windows xp, and has full write access, as it should. Why is getting a feature like this such a pain in windows vista or windows 7? I mean i'm all for greater network security, but network impossibility is not the solution.

Is there a way to get all three of these computers to communicate amicably? All of my advanced sharing settings on both windows 7 and windows vista are set up according to the tutorials. I even have windows firewall off. What am i missing so that i can simply share files between the three computers?

The copy starts and runs till about 350 meg left then it slows down all the way to 17 kbs and also till 10 k was left on the dvd. By this time about 5 hrs have gone by and the copy window has showed 1 hr left for 3 hrs. The cancel button won't work task manager when used will crash the system. You can force a shut down but then you have to reactivate norton with your purchase code. A search of the internet for me was no help at all.

Sharing Printer Problem Between Win 7 & Xp

Problem with sharing printer between windows 7 & and windows xp. I have a hp 1150 laser printer that is connected to my windows 7 (home premium 64bit) computer by usb. I want to share it with another pc running xp pro (sp3), but can't find a suitable printer driver. I have read the thread about sharing printers, and have carried out most of the steps.

My problem is that although i can see the printer from the xp machine, it requires a suitable driver. I had previously installed the hp drivers and the printer works fine by direct usb connection to the xp machine, but it appears i need an appropriate driver installed on the w7 machine as well - and i can't seem to find one that works. Any ideas what to do ?

Printer Sharing Between Win7 Host And Xp

Printer sharing between windows 7 (printer host) and windows xp. (Additional drivers problem). I have my canon pixma ip4000 installed and working on a windows 7 (x64) machine, furthermore i have a laptop running windows xp (x86). The two pcs find each other in the 'workgroup' and the printer is visible from the windows xp machine as well.

I 2xclick the printer in 'workgroup' and it wants to find the proper driver (x86) to install to the machine. On the windows 7 machine i have to have the driver for the xp machine to find and install. - So i go to the sharing properties of the printer and click the 'additional drivers' button which lets me choose between 3 things; itanium (type 3 - user mode), x64 (installed) and finally x86 which is the one i of course need for it to work with xp x86.

I go and download the canon driver for windows xp x86, and try to add it via the 'additional driver' option, i find the proper '. Inf' from the newly downloaded folder and click ok.

But this message follows: "the specified location does not contain the driver canon inkjet pixma ip4000 for the requested processor architecture. " - Even though i know its the right driver.

How do i solve this issue? Nb: i tried having the driver on the laptop and via the 'workgroup' adding the printer, but it wont work either.
