Booting Problem During Startup

Everything has been running great for the last 2 months, except for tonight, i start the pc up and now its stuck on the "loading windows" screen, the little widows logo is doing its thing getting brighter and dimmer but it sticks there, i have re-started several times but get back to the same screen, i get an occasional hard drive access light every few seconds but everything is dead, no mouse, keyboard or action on anything.

Message "no bootable device found"i have let the system sit for 30 minutes but nothing; this system was running great, no problems and smooth. Finally run windows after several restart done. I have done nothing as far as adding any programs or hardware, it has3 gig of ram and is running dual core in an intel board. Ny ideas?

No Keyboard Message When Booting

Keyboard and mouse are not being detected during boot process. I have searched microsoft, the hardware manufacturer and used blitware's driver fetch to no avail. All sources indicate i have the most current drivers for my hardware. Once the system boots to the window's desktop i can remove the usb connection and upon reinsertion windows sees the device and installs drivers; then the keyboard and mouse work find.

Some Programs Delays Before Booting Up

I have win 7 ultimate, cpu-core duo e6850, 4gb memory, nvdia 8800 gtx graphics card, motherboard evga nforce 680i lt sli. Often i will double click a program, usually internet explorer. The cursor will twirl like it is booting the program for 10 seconds then stop. In 1 to 2 minutes later the program will run. It seems that this does not happen with "portable" programs that don't access the registry. I have had this happen ever since installing win 7. I've scanned for viruses with 3 different programs and am clean. Does anyone know what is going onlso i have set my power saving settings to be always on and to never hibernate.

Trouble Dual Booting Win7 And Xp

Trying to install win xp onto a notebook that already has win 7 installed. I shrunk the partition holding win 7 and created a primary partition on the other. What i did was cut the hd in half and now have two partitions. The second partition is  a health primary partition and is now drive e:. I restart the notebook and with the xp pro disc in the cd drive i boot from it. All of the installation files and drivers load as usual but when it gets to the next part, i get a blue screen and it goes no farther.

I have run every test chkdsk etc. And the drive is fine. I'm starting to get the idea that you cannot install xp on a computer that is already running 7 no matter what you do. I have a multiboot desktop that i built but i installed xp first and then 7 and it works fine but then this was a computer that never had an os  of any kind on it. If anyone can confirm that i can't install xp on this machine unless i start from scratch and reinstall everything i would appreciate it, if there is a work around please let me know.

Reinstall On Dual Booting Macbook

I installed a recently purchased full version of windows 7 ultimate on my dual booting macbook pro laptop but am unable to install the xp compatibility module. Apparently there is an authenticity issue. The problem may be due to the fact that when i partitioned the disk and installed windows, i inadvertently corrupted the mac os x system. So i reinitialized the disk and installed os x again. Windows 7 apparently installed successfully. But when i downloaded the windows xp compatibility module it failed to install. The message indicates that there is an authenticity issue.

Problem Booting In Sata Mode

I recently built a computer using an asrock x58 extreme mobo. I installed windows 7, but realized only afterward that the mobo's default setting for the hdds was ide rather than sata.

I followed the registry hack instructions to change the "start" parameter for the msahci driver to "0" (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/922976?P=1), rebooted, changed the bios setting to ahci and everything worked fine. The sata drivers loaded and things were looking good!

However, a few days later i had a problem with going into "sleep" mode. The computer hung, and after several minutes i just switched if off and rebooted.

Now, i cannot get it to boot properly with the bios in ahci mode. The registry entries are still the same as when ahci was working, but it will not boot in sata mode. I get the message "problem loading os". Changing the bios back to ide allows me to boot.

Any ideas as to what went wrong (was it the hard shutdown that messed me up?), And any ideas on how to get sata working again?

Win 7 Not Booting - Unable To Do A System Restore

I installed the last windows updates last night, and this morning when i tried to boot up my computer, it worked, but it froze when i tried to run explorer so i had to do a forced shutdown. I then was unable to do a system restore, and now i'm getting the following message:windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. It goes on to ask me insert the windows disc (which i don't have), and goes on to say "an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data". What can i do to restore windows off of my hard-drive?

Trouble Booting From Windows Install Disk

I built a new computer installed windows xp no problem. It is a total sata machine hard drives and optical drive. I purchased a retail upgrade windows 7 disk. So i have to boot off the installation disc and select custom, there lies my problem. The disks loads the operating system into memory and gives me the desk top the only thing i can do is move the mouse around. It will not go to the install screen every time i put the disk into the dvd drive it says loading windows file then the windows 7 desktop appears no option to install no nothing. Is there a setting i am missing in bios where it runs the operating system off the disk and not install it.

Blue Screen Stop Error When Booting

I went on vacation june 5th. When i shutdown my computer (windows 7 professional x64) before leaving, two (2) critical microsoft updates were installed. When i returned from vacation today, june 9th, & started up my computer, i get a flash of a blue screen that has some stop error. It goes by so fast, i can't read it. I've tried the obligatory startup repair options numerous times, but it says that it cannot determine the cause of the problem.

I've tried the system restore option, but it is trying to restore to the (c:) (system) drive, which shows a status of "you must enable system protection on this drive". In startup recovery, the actual system drive has now become the e: or x: drive, so that doesn't work & the os isn't smart enough to identify the correct drive (i guess).

I've tried using the command prompt & running bootrec.exe with every available option, including rebuilding the bcd, but that doesn't work either. The /scan os option says "total identified windows installations: 0", even though i can see all of my windows files on the ~now~ e: & x: drives. I've tried booting into safe mode, but i get the same blue screen. On which the message is again unidentifiable. Everything was working fine before i shutdown my computer & the microsoft updates were installed.

Dual Booting Cannot Find Microsoft Office Suite

I have set up a win 7 dual boot on my laptop which had vista home. The c drive has vista along with all my programs including microsoft office suite 2003 and 2007. When in win 7 i can find and use some programs eg picassa, photofiltre, but i cannot even see the microsoft office suites, they are not listed under all programs on the c drive.

I have tried copying a shortcut to word (in vista) on the win7 desktop folder, but it tells me when i click that i can only use shortcuts on programs that are installed? As i teach seniors computer i need to be able to access the office suites from win7 is there any way this can be achieved?

Win 7 Startup

I'm running a dell e521 which started life with vista. I upgraded months ago to windows 7. The upgrade went quite smooth. This past week i was performing a system restore to a previous date when during the process the computer rebooted which is normal. I got the dell logo, then the windows 7 start-up screen with the four little revolving lights. Then the computer progressed to the black screen with the cursor in the center and froze at that screen. I have been unable to get past this screen since. I tried rebooting with the windows 7 repair disc but with no success.

I have since bought and installed a new hard-drive and was able to extract most but not all of my files from my external hard-drive. I would like to know if there is a solution to fixing my old drive so that i can retrieve all of my data and perhaps use it as a second drive in my computer. Note; when this problem hard-drive is connected i can't get past this black screen so i cannot access my computer to find a fix.

Unmute On Startup

I purchased my laptop with vista on it, with an upgrade to 7 home premium when it was released. I've since installed, but now the system automatically turns the sound on at startup. It never had a problem with vista, and i didn't mind that the very first time i booted into 7

This is particularly annoying when i'm in class and someone sends me a message and the whole class think's i'm talking away. I've had more dirty looks from instructors in the past few months than i can remember.

I know i can go through and disable all the sounds, and switch between sound schemes, but i would rather not bother going through that path 2-3 times a day. How do i get my sound settings to stay where i put them?

No Startup Folder

Recently, i put a program in the startup folder in

C:usersadminappdataroamingmicrosoftwindowsstart menuprogramsstartup

I later decided that i didn't want the program to startup every time i log on, but instead of deleting the program i accidentally deleted the startup folder instead. The folder is no longer in the recycling bin. Does anyone have any idea of how to replace my startup folder because i would really like to put some programs in there.

I've tried using task scheduler, but didn't find it to be very effective. What i really need is a new startup folder.

Freezes On Startup

I have a computer that is one day old and will not start up (windows 7 home premium 64 bit). It will freeze at "windows starting. " It will freeze under safe mode at the classpnp.sys file. I have attempted to boot from a recovery dvd and it will not not not boot from it and freeze, and the bios settings are set to boot from the optical drive 1st. It will freeze when i try to enter the repair console.

I am out of ideas as to what to do, and i can find no answers online.

The comlete story is as follows: i was installing various programs fine (office, symantec, turbotax 04-09, etc). After installing adobe photoshop, the os "freaked out. "  I have no other way to describe it. Various components of the screen starting flickering (not the entire screen, but certain parts of programs). The touchpad became unresponsive, jerky, and seemed to click on its own. The computer began a shutdown sequence - because updates had queued, those began installing once the os logged off. Upon power on, i made it to the welcome screen. Each time, the touchpad was unresponsive, and the keyboard seemed to have its own inputs, because it would freeze and lock me out of the system.

After a few cold shutdowns, the touchpad and keyboard stopped acting weird (i know this sounds crazy, but i swear its true), and i was able to log in. I created the recovery dvds using the vaio console, uninstalled photoshop, and did a system restore to before the photoshop installation. The computer shut down, but has never been able to completely boot into the windows welcome screen.

Startup Faliure

On june 23, 2010, my computer received an auto-update from microsoft. I believe that that my computer restarted once after the update, but since then, it fails to start up at all. The computer does not usually get as far as providing me with the repair screen options, but occasionally does. Those efforts were unsuccessful. I have even tried making the repair using the os software disc. However, that was not successful. Usually, i end up with a completely black screen. Dditionally, i tried to restore the computer to three prior periods, but each attempt has failed. I received the following information after the failed repair efforts:

Problem event name: startup repair offline problem signature 01: 6. 1. 7600. 16385 problem signature 02: 6. 1. 7600. 16385 problem signature 03: unknown problem signature 04: 21201010 problem signature 05: auto failure problem signature 06: 4 problem signature 07: bad patch os version: 6. 1. 7600. 2. 0. 0. 256. 1 local id: 1033

I'm guessing that i got dinged in the update that was downloaded. Regardless, i just want to get my computer back up and working. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Yes, i have disconnected all of the external devices and still have made no progress with this problem.

Docked vs. Undocked hardware profiles. As we all know in xp i could have programs like outlook and response point load on startup when i am docked at the office. But at home where i did not need outlook and response point to load at startup they would not because they i was undocked and they were not in the startup up folder for undocked. I am aware that this hardware profiles are no longer an option in 7. But is there a was to have some programs startup when i am at the office and not when i am at home?

How To Get A Program Run On Startup?

Win 7 home premium i'd like to get a temperature utility program such as realtemp or core temp running on startup.core temp has a setting to have it run on startup, but it doesn't. (Neither of these are installed programs, but standalone .exe files that i run with a shortcut. )I've tried placing a short cut for either program into the startup folder but still have to start either one up manually. If i run system configuration, with either shortcut in the startup folder, it shows it being set for running on startup, but it doesn't run. http://moz.execulink.net/~jspirko/temp/system_config.jpg

Taskbar Freeze At Startup

I had tried several times now, but the same happend. When i upgraded first time from xp to win 7 everything went ok until a few days later. Then started the taskbar to freeze, i could not click any items in the taskbar etc. Until i start the task manager by pressing #ctrl-alt-del" when i had dne that the task bar can be used again !I had tried to run 5-6 different virus scanners, i have avg installed, nothing from any of them, i thought in the beginning it could be a problem with the csrss.exe file as in the task-manger can i not see the properties, it not come up at all, also it not show who user ise the csrss.exe, my notebook does that !

I had re-installed the win 7 2 times again, and now it seems like the taskbar freeze at sratup, so when had had started the task-manager 1 time it works all ok ! That is quite strange !Any have a brilliant idea about what is wrong ! My computer is an acer stationary, 2 gb ram. Intel core duo e4500 2. 2 ghz. Windows / 32 bit.

Taskbar Freezing After Startup

When windows starts the taskbar is frozen, and i cannot click on anything. All icons on the desktop are not affected and can be clicked. When i click ctrl+alt+del, then cancel it, it goes back to normal and works fine.

I was on windows vista when this was happening. Once a installed windows 7, with an otherwise empty computer, it is still happening. As there is nothing else on my pc now, i presume it is microsoft related, or hardware.

I have tested the memory and its fine. I have checked the temperatures and there fine. The bios is upto date. There are no virus's or malware present.

I have now ran out of ideas, and for the life of me cannot work it out

I have checked on google, and used many tech forums to no avail?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated?

The programs are all in msconfig as startup items but when i log in they don't start. All of the users are administrators but the only way to get them to start is via the start menu. When i do start them it comes up with the warning about do you want the following program make changes to your computer. Is there anyway to make these programs run at startup?

Black Screen At Startup

Bsod? With cursor? Updated my pc to windows 7 after vista gave me the true bsod a long time ago. I couldn't make a connection to my network's router. I restarted my pc using start->shut down when i pressed the power button, startup was same as usual. Until it got stuck on the black screen with cursor. Unable to start in safe mode. F8 will not do anything. Crtl-alt-del shuts my pc down instantly. I'd tell you the specifics of my pc if i thought that would be helpful but i've been running windows 7 since it came out with no problems. It's been over a week at least since i've downloaded anything.

Quicktime Error On Startup

Machine = dell studio running 64 bit windows vista with sp 2. I installed the latest version of quicktime. There was an error at the end of the install, but no error message beyond "windows installer has stopped. " Nothing specific. When i try to run quicktime, i get the "please install apple application support' error. I did some research and found that it was suggested that i re-register the vbscript.dll. I tried this, but got an error code = 0x80004004 message saying the call to the registration server failed. I don't know if this has anything to do with the original problem.

Startup Issue With Upgrades

I purchased a new computer a couple of months ago and have had on-going problems when turning the system on. Windows 7(64bit) was loaded by the supplier. To start with start up repair would loop two ot three times and then be unable to fix the problem, after re-loading and up grading using the disc, i now have the problem that start up repair fixes the problem and all appears ok. On turning off the system, there are always 14 upgrades. Leave the computer for several hours and turn on, start up repair fixes the problem. Shut down and there are 14 upgrades again and so on.

Error Message Upon Startup

I'm not certain this is the forum i should be in but if i am in the wrong place, please someone redirect me to the correct place okay ?! Upon start up when i turn on, boot up or whatever you wanna call it, i always receive this error message and i have done everything i can think of to get rid of it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled programs that i thought that particular .dll file
Came with and on and on but nothing has worked.

Error message: the program can't start because msvcr71.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem.

I have searched and brought all of the crazies out of the woodwork with their "magical fixes" if you install this registry scan and that registry scan but i have enough smarts to know that is all they do is scan, none of them actually fix the issue.

Anyway, is there a simple fix for this. I ran a system restore but my restore points don't go back far enough and the error message box is still there! Lost

System Freezes During Startup

After behaving normally for two weeks or more, my computer (using retail copy of win 7 professional 32 bit system) will not start up.

It freezes during the "microsoft starting" phase. The 4-color logo never gets formed up and that's it. I have tried all or most of the config and reboot options but nothing happens i always get stuck at the same place. When i use the option that shows the 32 bit system drivers getting loaded it never gets past . Disk.sys or the next one . Snp.sys. And that screen ends with "please wait".

There were some downloads/updates installed on last good day (thursday 1/21/2010). I might have downloaded firefox that day as well. One more thing i set up a (wireless) network but i only have one win 7 machine so i don't think it will do anything for me.

Upon the next start-up two days later - i experienced this trouble that will not go away. I do not have a boot-up disk but when i try to start with the original dvd media the same thing happens - it appears to read the disk then the "microsoft starting" begins and ends just as already described.

Freezes On Startup Logo

I have windows7 home premium and am doing a clean install. The installation completes, but when windows 7 starts up for the first time, it freezes at the "starting windows" after the little balls have come together to make the windows logo. Keyboard strokes and mouse movements do not do anything, and i have no choice but to restart the computer by physically pressing and holding the power button. Windows recovery and repair doesn't fix it. I have a gigabyte ga-h55m-ud2h motherboard, intel i3-530 cpu, and 4gb memory, the boot drive is a sataii western digital drive. I removed 2gb of memory and tried the install again with the same result. What now?
