Win 7 Install Pc Freezes Up At Expanding Files

Windows 7 clean install may require special drivers either for the amd athlon 64 processor, for the wd sata hard drive, or the via gigabyte motherboard. My experience: i booted up factory legitimate dvd of windows 7 install disk and partitioned/formatted hard drive, installed sata driver (the same floppy with the drivers for the sata drive that i used with my previous windows xp installations), and proceeded with installation.

The install showed that it copied the files with no problem. Then at "expand files" the installation freezes at 18% expanded. I have experimented with the bios by selected raid or ide as the setting for the sata drive, but it doesn't work with either setting. The hard drive is an empty 80 gb western digital hard drive. I guess i need either a driver for the motherboard, the processor, or the hard drive.

Win 7 Freezes At Expanding Files

I have an hp dv4-1275mx and i have problems upgrading from vista 64 bit service pack 2 to windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I ran the windows 7 compatibility advisor initially and corrected any issues ( it now indicates that there are no issues), i updated all the components of windows vista before beginning the upgrade. I also updated all the drivers and pre-installed software that came with the hp laptop (such as hp media-smart software).

Anyway i purchased my copy of windows 7 online from digital river from a student promotion ( but i also received the dvd disc which i am using for the install)

The computer copies all the files and then when it moves to expanding files it goes to 20% and then reboots and at that point a secondary window pops up but flickers on the screen (it says something about continuing windows installation and asking if i want to cancel installation yes or no) this flickering window disappears at the 28% mark but then it only goes to 36% and then it reboots and it chooses windows rollback and informs me that the windows 7 installation was unsuccessful. There is no error code.

I called microsoft tech support and they thought it was a ram issue, so i interchanged  the ram modules and tried installing with the same result, and i tried only using one ram module installed during installation with the same result.

I then tried booting the laptop from the windows 7 disc and it starts off loading windows files and then it moves to a blue windows 7 installation screen and you briefly see a window pop up to select what language you want to choose to intall, but then it goes to a black screen and reboots the laptop.

Lastly hp informed me that maybe there was a conflict with some of the software installed on the harddrive with the installation disc, so i removed the harddrive from the laptop, hooked it up to another computer as a usb drive and reformatted the harddrive completely. Re-installed the harddrive and attempted to boot the laptop from the windows 7 install disc but i encountered the same problem as before where the computer reboots.

I thought it might be a problem with my dvd drive, but i rebooted my laptop with my recovery discs and it stared the hp recovery manager without a hitch, so i am pretty sure that there is no problems with my dvd drive.

Upgrade Expanding Files Gets Stuck At 21%

I am trying to upgrade from vista to windows 7 and when the install program is expanding out windows files, the install gets stuck at 21%. What should i do? I am installing from the downloaded student offer version of windows 7. I have let the install hang at 21% for 16 hours before turning off the computer.

I haven't heard any upgrade from vista to windows 7 take this long. When it reaches 21% i can no longer boot up vista and i have needed to restore my laptop to its factory settings. I am running 32 bit windows vista and have bought a 32 bit version of windows 7 upgrade.

Error Code 0x80070570 When Expanding Installing Files

When i attempt to install windows 7 on my new computer i receive the error code 0x80070570 when it gets to the expanding windows files stage. I also receive the message "the file or directory d:/$secure is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility. ". I've tried formating, switching the sata ports the hard drive is plugged into, and switching the onboard device mode from sata to ahci and raid with no success. It is a 64 bit edition of windows 7 home premium.

Install Freezes

I am running windows 7 ultimate and trying to install a program that they say is compatible with it. It is a scuba dive log program from aeris dive. When i start the setup file it opens install shield & goes through the initial parts, identifying the system, where the files will load etc but when it gets to the screen where it starts setup it just freezes.

I have tried to run it as administrator (i have admin rights) but no luck. I tried to run microsoft installer cleanup utility but that too locks up. I shut off all of my virus and spyware blocking tools and no effect. The file is ok as i can install it on another pc.

Install Screen Freezes

I am trying to install the 64 bit version of windows 7. I have the 32 bit of windows vista installed. I boot from the install disc and get through the language selection screen & then hit the install now button. After hitting the install now button it goes to the "loading set-up screen" and then just hangs. My computer is showing that it is doing something and the mouse still moves around the screen but the dvd drive doesn't start-up. I left it sitting there for about an hour and it didn't do anything else. It just stayed on the loading set-up screen.

I have am running a amd athlon x2 64 dual core processors, 2 gig of ram, and nvidia 8600 graphics cards.

Win 7 Freezes And Restarts When Transferring Files Through Usb

I have been having this problem since the day i got windows 7 and it is really starting to annoy me.
Any time i transfer files through any usb port the computer freezes, a buzzing noise comes from the speakers, the monitor turns off and the computer restarts. This happens when putting films on my hard drive, songs on my phone and syncing my mp3 player so that i actually can't do any of them.

I have uploaded the dump files here:

Hangs / Freezes While Transferring Files From Sata Drive To Raid 0

Windows 7 hangs/freezes while transferring files from my e drive (sata) to my c drive (raid 0 sata). Every time i try to move a large group of files, the copy process will lock up about 40 seconds in. I can move smaller groups of files, liek 100-200mb or less and everything works fine, but if i try to move a gigabyte or more, the system will freeze.

Motherboard: asus p5n-d 750i
Cpu: q6600
Os: windows 7 64bit
Ram: 8 gig's ddr2 800

After Win7 Install Should I Install Programs Then Backed Up Files ?

After windows 7 complete install. Should i install the programs then the backed up files or the backed up files then the programs. Windows 7 complete install. Should i install the programs then the backed up  files or the backed up files then the programs. I saw where microsoft recommended installing the backed up files first then the programs so the programs know where the files are located.

I would think installing the programs first would be better to minimize defragmentation. Os then programs, then files.

However, the last item (transferring files, settings, programs) has reached 63% complete status but has frozen at that point for the past several hours without a change.

Install 32-bit Apps To Program-files Rather Than Program Files (x86)

On 64-bit win7, is it wrong to install 32-bit apps to (drive letter):program files rather than program files (x86)? If wrong should installer prevent this? If installer allows it, what app behavior is appropriate?

Background: winzip 14. 0 (a win7 compatible 32-bit app) won't run if installed to c:program files. If installed to any other alternate path or folder name it runs ok. By convention starting with vista, c:program files (x86) is for 32 bit apps and c:program files for 64-bit apps. But installers allow overriding the install path and folder name. e.g, maybe i want 32 bit apps in c:program files and 64 bit apps in c:program files (x64).

If c:program files is a restricted location for 32 bit apps, should not the installer and/or os enforce this, rather than allow installation then break the app? What is the correct practice for both users installing apps and developers porting apps to win7?

Custom Install - Program-files And Program Files X86

Custom install from windows vista hp 32 bit to windows 7 hp 64 bit leave 2 program files - "program files" and "program files (x86). Mostly same files in either folder. If x86 is needed, i don't mind but why duplicate entries with items like windows mail. I tried to to delete program files x86 without any success, and i would like to delete system-32 files in the windows folder plus any other 32 bit related items, if possible.

I do not want a system with duplicate and redundant files. Because two items that i downloaded and installed appear in both program files, i'm suspending any further actions on the installation until i'm fortunate enough to receive some help and/or advice from this forum.

Could Custom Program Files Location Be Specified Before Install ?

Could a custom "program files" location be specified before windows vista is install on a computer?

I'm a fan of running the windows operating system on low capacity high speed disks and off loading my programs and documents/data to other disks. This is a simple enough operation for the documents/data but there aren't a lot of options for the program files.

A popular windows "tweak" idea that gets close to what i want to do (if it actually worked) is tweaking the default program files location stored in registry so, as new programs are installed the default location given reflects the custom location specified.

The problem with this is the program file location values in registry do more then provide a default location for installing software. The programs that vista installs on the "c drive" during a normal installation need these keys unchanged if they're to be referred to correctly later on. So like many keys in the windows registry, they provide an answer to multiple versions of an inquiry and changing the answer tends to have further reaching effects then one might think.

So, as for solving this problem around separating programs from os, i see only two possible choices (neither of which i know how to pull off currently):

1. Make the change to the default program location before windows vista is installed (with a custom install disk or the like) so my custom program location is address from the get go, making every thing (windows programs included) install accordingly and insuring that there aren't multiple program locations to be confused over.

2. Some how, do some crafty registry work that would operate as follows: if a program asks for a default location to install a program, provide the custom location i specified, leaving the "programfilespath" and "programfilesdir" keys unaffected for the sake of the windows programs that by default exist on the c drive.

Fresh Windows 7 Installation Files Will Not Install On Disk 0

We have a dell laptop 6500 with two solid state disks, which have not been formated, show only unallocated space. When do a fresh installation from cd (win 7 64-bit), then a 100 mb boot partition is created on disk 0 and the windows files are installed on disk 1.

So the results look like this:
Disk 0: 100 mb boot partition 256 gb unallocated space
Disk 1: drive c: 0 gb unallocated space.

Whats going on here why are the windows files not installed on disk 0.

Install Error 2329 And Saving Downloaded Files

Increasingly i have noticed repeated errors concerning file access on windows 7. While uninstalling a program, i will get the 2329 error halfway through, and also errors while trying to save downloaded files (i assume something to do with 0 length files), messages informing me that the file cannot be saved.

I believe that these two errors are connected, and are caused by the slow response of the os and anti-virus software, keeping handles to files open longer than is required, leading to these errors.

 Any thoughts?

Files Send To Dvd-rw Drive On Network Results In Deleted Files

"send to dvd-rw drive" when the source files are on a network drive results in deleted files! Windows 7 rc 7100. Have a mapped drive to another computer. I opened the folder, right clicked on a group of .doc files. I choose "send to dvd-rw drive". Responded to the prompt of "use like usb drive" or use in a cd/dvd player by choosing the 2nd choice. Then was faced with a prompt that filename.doc is no longer in this location cancel/retry/skip. All the files were gone! Not in recycle bin of either computer.

Win 7 Freezes

I have a dell inspiron 530 that i got about 1. 5 yrs ago - intel dual core2. 33 ghz/3 gb memory/500 gb hard drive/128mb nvidia video card originally with vista installed. I purchased an upgrade to win 7. It installed fine but now the computer after a few minutes use freezes to the point where i need to totally power down the system - ctl-alt-del has no response. I have been able to make this go away by having all power saving measures wide open to always on. It even froze when the only power saving measure was to turn the monitor off.

I have checked the dell site - have the latest bios/drivers from there and also updated to the latest nvidia drivers and still it freezes. Any suggestions? I'd preferably like to utilize the power saving features and they worked just fine under vista, its just the upgrade to win 7 that has caused it to freeze. Also, nothing found in the event viewer when it locks up.

Update Freezes At 0%

My computer hasn't been working for quite some time now. My automatic updates have not been updating properly, it just remains at 0% when i move over the icon on the bottom bar. I left it on that screen once for 2 days and nothing happened. I have
Also noticed that most of my programs / games no longer work with the exception of programs like pokerstars. I am obviously not great with computers but any help would be great. I use windows vista: home premium 32b operating system.

Briefcase Freezes

I used briefcase in xp pro as a form of quick daily backup tool with an encrypted removable usb drive. It worked well.

I finally got the security issues solved to allow the usb drive to work with users, however briefcase is not functioning properly.

In windows 7, the drive takes forever to load, then when i ask to "update all" it either gives an error message about insufficient memory ( i have 4gb on board and at the time of failure, it's less then 30% full), or it freezes up completely and i need task manager to shut it down.

I tried deleting the briefcase and creating a new one and that doesn't help.

Any suggestions?

Momentarily Freezes

This is a very vague problem i am having here, but bear with me, ill try to provide as many details as i can i'll start off with the basics. I am on an acer aspire 5517 laptop running windows 7 home premium 64 bit with 4 gigs of ram and an amd athlon l310 dual core proc at 1. 2 ghz. Recently, my computer started to have this problem.

Every so often, the computer will just hang up, but only for a second or two, at longest 3 seconds. When these freezes occur and i happen to be monitoring resource usage, when the freeze is over, i will note that cpu usage is at 100 percent with the 'system' task using 99 percent.

This is mostly just a minor annoyance as when i am working, the mouse will momentarily freeze up as well as whatever i was working on. This is most noticeable when i am watching video, as the video will freeze. Sometimes however, the audio will continue playing and when the freeze stops, i will see all the frames in between when it freeze and where it currently is fly by very quickly.

However, the audio will sometimes stop as well. Another example is when i am typing and one of these freezes will happen. The screen will stop updating, but if i keep typing, all the text will appear when the freeze stops. As far as i have noticed, this problem is not local to any one specific program, it is a problem with windows itself i believe, but i'll leave that judgment to the professionals.

Freezes On Startup

I have a computer that is one day old and will not start up (windows 7 home premium 64 bit). It will freeze at "windows starting. " It will freeze under safe mode at the classpnp.sys file. I have attempted to boot from a recovery dvd and it will not not not boot from it and freeze, and the bios settings are set to boot from the optical drive 1st. It will freeze when i try to enter the repair console.

I am out of ideas as to what to do, and i can find no answers online.

The comlete story is as follows: i was installing various programs fine (office, symantec, turbotax 04-09, etc). After installing adobe photoshop, the os "freaked out. "  I have no other way to describe it. Various components of the screen starting flickering (not the entire screen, but certain parts of programs). The touchpad became unresponsive, jerky, and seemed to click on its own. The computer began a shutdown sequence - because updates had queued, those began installing once the os logged off. Upon power on, i made it to the welcome screen. Each time, the touchpad was unresponsive, and the keyboard seemed to have its own inputs, because it would freeze and lock me out of the system.

After a few cold shutdowns, the touchpad and keyboard stopped acting weird (i know this sounds crazy, but i swear its true), and i was able to log in. I created the recovery dvds using the vaio console, uninstalled photoshop, and did a system restore to before the photoshop installation. The computer shut down, but has never been able to completely boot into the windows welcome screen.
