Some Programs Delays Before Booting Up

I have win 7 ultimate, cpu-core duo e6850, 4gb memory, nvdia 8800 gtx graphics card, motherboard evga nforce 680i lt sli. Often i will double click a program, usually internet explorer. The cursor will twirl like it is booting the program for 10 seconds then stop. In 1 to 2 minutes later the program will run. It seems that this does not happen with "portable" programs that don't access the registry. I have had this happen ever since installing win 7. I've scanned for viruses with 3 different programs and am clean. Does anyone know what is going onlso i have set my power saving settings to be always on and to never hibernate.

No Keyboard Message When Booting

Keyboard and mouse are not being detected during boot process. I have searched microsoft, the hardware manufacturer and used blitware's driver fetch to no avail. All sources indicate i have the most current drivers for my hardware. Once the system boots to the window's desktop i can remove the usb connection and upon reinsertion windows sees the device and installs drivers; then the keyboard and mouse work find.

Trouble Dual Booting Win7 And Xp

Trying to install win xp onto a notebook that already has win 7 installed. I shrunk the partition holding win 7 and created a primary partition on the other. What i did was cut the hd in half and now have two partitions. The second partition is  a health primary partition and is now drive e:. I restart the notebook and with the xp pro disc in the cd drive i boot from it. All of the installation files and drivers load as usual but when it gets to the next part, i get a blue screen and it goes no farther.

I have run every test chkdsk etc. And the drive is fine. I'm starting to get the idea that you cannot install xp on a computer that is already running 7 no matter what you do. I have a multiboot desktop that i built but i installed xp first and then 7 and it works fine but then this was a computer that never had an os  of any kind on it. If anyone can confirm that i can't install xp on this machine unless i start from scratch and reinstall everything i would appreciate it, if there is a work around please let me know.

Reinstall On Dual Booting Macbook

I installed a recently purchased full version of windows 7 ultimate on my dual booting macbook pro laptop but am unable to install the xp compatibility module. Apparently there is an authenticity issue. The problem may be due to the fact that when i partitioned the disk and installed windows, i inadvertently corrupted the mac os x system. So i reinitialized the disk and installed os x again. Windows 7 apparently installed successfully. But when i downloaded the windows xp compatibility module it failed to install. The message indicates that there is an authenticity issue.

Problem Booting In Sata Mode

I recently built a computer using an asrock x58 extreme mobo. I installed windows 7, but realized only afterward that the mobo's default setting for the hdds was ide rather than sata.

I followed the registry hack instructions to change the "start" parameter for the msahci driver to "0" (, rebooted, changed the bios setting to ahci and everything worked fine. The sata drivers loaded and things were looking good!

However, a few days later i had a problem with going into "sleep" mode. The computer hung, and after several minutes i just switched if off and rebooted.

Now, i cannot get it to boot properly with the bios in ahci mode. The registry entries are still the same as when ahci was working, but it will not boot in sata mode. I get the message "problem loading os". Changing the bios back to ide allows me to boot.

Any ideas as to what went wrong (was it the hard shutdown that messed me up?), And any ideas on how to get sata working again?

Win 7 Not Booting - Unable To Do A System Restore

I installed the last windows updates last night, and this morning when i tried to boot up my computer, it worked, but it froze when i tried to run explorer so i had to do a forced shutdown. I then was unable to do a system restore, and now i'm getting the following message:windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. It goes on to ask me insert the windows disc (which i don't have), and goes on to say "an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data". What can i do to restore windows off of my hard-drive?

Trouble Booting From Windows Install Disk

I built a new computer installed windows xp no problem. It is a total sata machine hard drives and optical drive. I purchased a retail upgrade windows 7 disk. So i have to boot off the installation disc and select custom, there lies my problem. The disks loads the operating system into memory and gives me the desk top the only thing i can do is move the mouse around. It will not go to the install screen every time i put the disk into the dvd drive it says loading windows file then the windows 7 desktop appears no option to install no nothing. Is there a setting i am missing in bios where it runs the operating system off the disk and not install it.

Blue Screen Stop Error When Booting

I went on vacation june 5th. When i shutdown my computer (windows 7 professional x64) before leaving, two (2) critical microsoft updates were installed. When i returned from vacation today, june 9th, & started up my computer, i get a flash of a blue screen that has some stop error. It goes by so fast, i can't read it. I've tried the obligatory startup repair options numerous times, but it says that it cannot determine the cause of the problem.

I've tried the system restore option, but it is trying to restore to the (c:) (system) drive, which shows a status of "you must enable system protection on this drive". In startup recovery, the actual system drive has now become the e: or x: drive, so that doesn't work & the os isn't smart enough to identify the correct drive (i guess).

I've tried using the command prompt & running bootrec.exe with every available option, including rebuilding the bcd, but that doesn't work either. The /scan os option says "total identified windows installations: 0", even though i can see all of my windows files on the ~now~ e: & x: drives. I've tried booting into safe mode, but i get the same blue screen. On which the message is again unidentifiable. Everything was working fine before i shutdown my computer & the microsoft updates were installed.

I have set up a win 7 dual boot on my laptop which had vista home. The c drive has vista along with all my programs including microsoft office suite 2003 and 2007. When in win 7 i can find and use some programs eg picassa, photofiltre, but i cannot even see the microsoft office suites, they are not listed under all programs on the c drive.

I have tried copying a shortcut to word (in vista) on the win7 desktop folder, but it tells me when i click that i can only use shortcuts on programs that are installed? As i teach seniors computer i need to be able to access the office suites from win7 is there any way this can be achieved?

Office 2007 Programs Do Not Appear In Default Programs List

I have both and microsoft office 2007 installed on my windows 7 computer and i would like to use microsoft office as the default for all files it can open but it does not appear in the default programs list.

In fact, except for microsoft office outlook, none of my microsoft office 2007 applications appear in the default programs list! does appear, and when i click on it in the list and click choose defaults for this program many of the defaults are already set to the equivalent microsoft office application. But there are some associations (such as text files) that are not correctly associated, and possibly others that i don't know about. I'd like to click on microsoft word and then click set this program as default so that it will automatically open all the files it can.

All Programs Are Inaccessible

All of my programs have turned into a windows media player format and icon, meaning all my programs are inaccessible. I have recently purchased a new dell laptop. It has all the latest features such as, windows 7, norton 360 virus protection 2010 all running and updated and other important programs.

All of a sudden my computer went black and all my icons had become a windows media player format and icon. Should i remove windows media player? Or should i restore all of my files and programs back to factory default setting or before its too late, can you help me? How did this bug get on my computer?, Could i have done this accidentally?, How did the problem originate?, Why did it come? How can i stop this from happening again? How can i get rid of the problem?

Disappearing Programs

I have yet been able to regularly duplicate this problem, but it seems to happen to me at least once a day. I did a clean install of w7rc on a fresh hard drive and everything installed fine. However, occasionally i will click a program on my task bar and it will way it's not there and ask me if i want to delete the shortcut. If i go to the start bar, there are no programs and the only thing i can do it shut down. I'm uncertain if microsoft is finding this issue as i receive no apparent error. Upon rebooting, everything is fine. Like i said, i don't know how to reproduce it as it seems to have no trend towards doing a specific operation, but it seems to happen to me at least once a day.

Where Do I Install My Programs To?

I am building a simple installer for some software that i want to install on some of the computers here at work. I'm using a very simple open source installation program, and it wants me to set the default installation directory where the software i have written should be installed. The computers at work are a mix of windows xp, vista and soon windows 7 computers. I have been installing to c:program files before, and that's been working fine.

But since vista came out, its been a bit unpredictable. I understand there is something to do with 'virtualization' of folders, which i don't really understand, and i also believe that this has all changed again with windows 7.

Is there some 'best practice' guide for where to install programs to?  The users who will be installing the software are just regular computer users (ie. Not administrators) and therefore i need a solution that works on all platforms and is safe and won't create security issues.

Cant Install Any New Programs

For some reason every time i go to install something new, ie quick time, java or itune, my computer is telling me i cant install something until i complete the installation currently in progress. The thing is, i have no idea what is in progress, and have had this problem for almost a month. I*ve restarted my computer and even done system restores to try and clear it up. I also cannot uninstall programs. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to pinpoint exactly where or what the installation may be. Or if there is something i can do to cancel all current installations.

Programs Keep Freezing

Ive seen that a lot of people are having problems with windows 7 constantly freezing up. I have a retail version of the windows 7 and im having that exact problem. I cant believe there is no answer for the problem, but its very aggravating to spend so  much on a computer + a video card and not be able to use them. The ie and firefox constantly freeze up when i try and upload videos, itunes will not play anything even though i reboot the system , and when i try to play any game it freezes as well. If someone can help me tell me what i need to do please!
