Upgrade Advisor Report On Devices

If the report says that "we don't have compatibility information about this device. " Does that mean it cannot support the device? How would i know if it can be supported? I tried using the microsoft online search for compatible devices but did not see the device i am using.

If the report says that "check windows update after installing windows 7 to make sure you have the latest driver for this device, otherwise it may not work. " Does that mean it may not support the device?

Upgrade Advisor Automation

Is there any way to install/run the windows 7 upgrade advisor silently on a computer?

My problem is that i am trying to assess whether a large amount of computers are windows 7 compatible so i basically want to create a script that runs the upgrade advisor silently at night and then copies the results to a share. I already have an ability to process the results if i can silently collect them.

Is there any command line options or configurations for the windows 7 upgrade advisor that anyone can help me with?

How To Uninstall Upgrade Advisor?

I installed windows 7 upgrade advisor on my windows vista laptop recently (about a week ago). It checked my pc if it able to run windows 7. Anyway i got an answer and now i do need to remove upgrade advisor. I looked for a folder in start menu where there could have been an option to remove the software (but there was no such folder). I also checked add or remove programs.

There was no entry for upgrade advisor in programs or updates as well. I even browsed to content advisor folder in program files. There is no uninstall program also (at least i didn't see anything matching). So now i'm desperate to remove this software, but removing folders and registry entries is not a correct, safe and, main thing, complete way to do it.

Cannot Download Upgrade Advisor

I can't download windows 7 upgrade advisor. Every time i try it tells me "connection interrupted" but there's nothing wrong with my connection. I had the same problem when i bought a zune and tried to download the necessary software to run it (which i had to return because i never did resolve the problem) now that i think of it, i never seem to be able to download anything from microsoft, but i do have an active version of windows vista with valid product key.

What do i need to do to resolve this? I will be switching from a 32 bit version of vista to a 64 bit 7 as soon as the boot disk arrives (i do need to wait for the boot disk, right?. ) And i want to get things ready.

Hp Support Advisor Does Not Work After Upgrade

I upgraded from windows vista to windows 7 a few days ago. Everything else appears to be working okay but when i click on the icon for the hp support advisor it opens and displays the initial program screen but at the top left it flashes "gathering information", the button at the bottom right which appears to be a button is blackened so i can't use that function, at the bottom there is "product #, product name, and serial # but all appear to be deactivated because they are gray yet they all display "loading. " But nothing is happening. The sand timer displays but is eternally working and does not change into an active icon so i can click on any option.conclusion: i cannot access the hp support advisor and need help.

Upgrade Advisor - Uninstall Ati Control Centre

Un-installing ati control center and ati install manager disables my graphics card, i am attempting to upgrade from my current 64 bit windows vista home premium to windows 7 home premium and i am having some compatibility issues. The upgrade advisor is telling me to uninstall my ati control centre and ati install manager.

However, once i do so, this also uninstalls my ati drivers, which means i must use my built in chipset graphics card which unfortunately is too weak to process the new windows aero interface. Does this mean i will not be able to upgrade my computer?

Usb Devices Stop Responding After Upgrade

After upgrade to windows 7 64 bit home premium, usb connected devices, particularly hard drives, stop responding shortly after start up. Includes iphone, ipod, hp personal media drives. I purchased a brand new hp pavilion e9140f running a amd phenom ii x4 925 chip that had vista 64 bit home premium installed. It was eligible for free upgrade to windows 7 64 bit home premium.

I followed all instructions for upgrade and it went fine, except that now any storage device connected via a usb stops responding during file transfers. This includes my hp personal media drive that is brand new, my iphone, my ipod, etc. The only thing working is the hp pocket media drive which slides into it's own slot. I've tried uninstalling all usb devices in device manager and rebooting. Same problem. So now i can't copy files or back up my pc to an external drive.

I can't transfer music to my ipod or iphone. Basically, my $2, 000 pc is useless. This appears to be a known issue with windows 7 but there's no fix. I have tried everything except reverting back to vista where all these problems didn't exist. My usb devices worked. So this is definitely something to do with windows 7 upgrade. Can anyone help me with this. After 4 hours on phone with hp, nothings been fixed. They can't figure it out.

Easy Transfer Report

I recently bought a new pc with windows 7 already installed. I performed a windows easy transfer of most of my stuff from my old xp to the windows 7 pc with no fuss, except when it was installing/saving the transferred data, it asked me for my old pc's password. I didn't know it, didn't even know it had one and neither did my husband. We tried all the obvious ones, then just gave up and closed that window down. And the rest of the installation/saving continued. Now when i go to view the report of what was transferred, i am unable to open it as it keeps saying that an error has occurred, and do i want to continue running scripts.

Then a pop up box appears with the following message. "Windows easy transfer post migration application has stopped working". It then searches for a solution, then says "it has a problem that caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify if a solution becomes available". Then the report closes down and i cant view it at all. What can i do?

System Diagnostics Report

I just built my new computer and installed windows 7 and have had the same problem with unexpected shutdowns. I generated a system health report and got these 2 failures:

Motherboard device status fail count
24
1
Motherboard devices.

Plugandplay device configured fail count
181
1
Plugandplay devices.

And clue what could be wrong with the motherboard? I got an asus p6x58d premium motherboards and as far as i can tell everything is installed correctly and there is no damage to the board.

Bug Report Dvd Maker

I have windows 7 home premium x64 with windows dvd maker file version: 6. 1. 7600. 16385 dated 07/13/2009 9:39 pm. When adding titles to be burned, dvd maker shows a time of 150 minutes on the dvd. It can not add mpg files correctly. A mpeg with 1:31 and another mpeg with 45 minutes and another mpeg 14 minutes shows 149 out of 150 minutes. This is incorrect since the blank dvd can only hold 120 minutes. Encoding starts and then there is an error. Nothing is written. I can create the dvd with 1:31 + 14 minutes dvd for 105 minutes.

Cannot Use Crystal Ocx To Print Report

Software that we have and support that has run for more than 10 years no longer works on windows 7. Well, most of it works, except one small part that transfers control to an ocx to print a crystal report. I'm trying to figure out why it wouldn't work. It just hangs with the swirling blue wheel. Does anyone know what changed with ocxs in windows 7 that might make this not work? I've tried using the compatibility mode options and administrator access to no avail. Any thoughts? I'm looking for a backward compatibility type workaround.

Advisor Compatibility Check Error

I want to upgrade to windows 7 from vista. I assume that there shouldn't be a problem. After all, it is the same company right? After downloading the advisor, i got the same error each time. "Windows 7 upgrade advisor ran into an unexpected error. Please re-install windows 7 upgrade advisor and try again". I've done this a few times with the same result. Does this mean that i won't be able to upgrade to 7 or would i have to do a clean install? I really don't want to start uninstalling some programs to see what works and what doesn't.

No Devices And Printers

32 bit windows 7 home premium upgrade on dell vista laptop. On a good day it takes about a minute for devices and printers to display anything. When it stops working, the only way to have it work again is to reinstall windows.system restore does nothing. Devices that should be displayed still work, but devices and printers reports 0 devices and i think hangs. May be a coincidence, but happens after windows update. May also be bluetooth related; gave up on bluetooth mouse, too flaky.

Pc is a dell vostro 1400. No problems running windows 7 on compaq amd machine or hp i7.

Devices & Printers Empty

I have a working hp 1100 printer connected through a parallel port pci card on my new dell xps 8100. The card is showing as correctly installed in device manager. The printer doesn't show in devices & printers. There are several duplicate printers showing, for example, in office word  'print' caused by unplugging/plugging the printer. As the printer doesn't show in devices & printers, i can't set it as default, set sharing or delete the duplicates.

When i ran printer trouble shooter, it listed all the hp 1100 installs and did set the default and sharing for me on request. So, windows knows about the printer installs and can correct settings via the trouble shooter but devices & printers refuses to show them hence i cannot delete the duplicates. Are there any other ways to get at the printer installs until this problem is fixed by ms?

Usb Devices Problems

Every time i plug a usb device into my computer, windows media 11 reports a fault and shuts down. I can't reinstal it, because it's no longer separate from the operating system. This started on vista, so i upgraded to windows 7 but it's still the same. What worries me is that i can't use my mp3 players and diabetes meter on any computer now - they are recognized, but i can't download anything onto them or even close them safely because i'm always told that they are busy with another task (they're not, at least as far as i know). Has the windows problem corrupted the software in any usb device i've attached to the computer since it first happened?

Usb Devices Are Not Detected

I've been reading a lot of posts in this community and in similar ones and i tried all sorts of things suggested there with the hope that my problem gets solved. Unfortunately it hasn't happened so far, but at least i know i'm not the only one frustrated. I have a toshiba satellite l30-10t laptop, running windows 7 home premium, clean install after vista home basic oem.

After installing 7, my usb devices (wd 320 gb external hard drive, usb hub, mp3 player, flash drives, mobiles phones, digital camera) worked fine for a few days, then all of a sudden were not recognized anymore. I don't get any error message, the devices are powered (lights on, disc spinning), but drivers fail to load. I've already tried the following (the list is randomly ordered) with little or no succes at all:

- Reinstalling the os
- Updated bios
- Trying to update the usb drivers
- Uninstalling the usb controllers/reboot and let windows find them again, both in normal and safe mode.
- Shut down, unplug from main power supply (with the battery taken out as well), left it overnight and then boot again
- Erased all the installed usb devices in device manager using the "show hidden devices" feature
- Deactivated the usb selective suspension in the power scheme settings and the "allow computer to shut down device to save energy" (my windows is in italian, i'm sorry if not getting the right names in english) in the usb hub's settings - solved the issue for a few days.
- Deleted the upper and lower filters in the registry as suggested in one post - this only caused a blue screen each time i tried to reboot.
- Installed the latest driver for the ati chipset (or at least i think this is what i did)
- Used this tool http://www.Zhangduo.com/udi.html to find any unknown devices, it found a couple, usb controller and usb hub, but i couldn't get any drivers.

I've seen a solution that seemed to work for some, though it was for xp, change the disableselectivesuspend value in the registry, but i couldn't figure out exactly how since my registers look a bit different than described in the post.

Conflict Between Usb Devices

I have windows 7 ultimate x64.couple days ago i bought apc smart ups 500va that has a usb connection to the pc to enable a soft shut down. I have installed the latest win 7 drivers from apc. I also have microsoft wireless multimedia keyboard 1. 1 and microsoft wireless optical mouse 2000. Once i installed the ups (it's using one of the usb ports), every time i reboot, the keyboard and mouse freeze and i can't fix that until i plug the ups out of the usb and reboot. Once i am in windows, i can plug the ups back in and it works perfectly. Re-installing drivers, removing devices and other usual tricks have not hepled. How can i get around this problem without replacing the hardware?

Slow To Remove Devices

I couldn't find a general windows 7 group, so i'm hoping someone here can help. I'm using windows 7 home premium on a laptop, and frequently use a usb memory stick. The issue i'm having is that the application to stop the memory stick so that i can remove it is very slow compared to previous
Versions of windows.

In the past, all i had to do was single click the "remove hardware" app, and within a few seconds, the list of devices would popup. Now when i click the app, it takes easily 15-20 seconds before the list pops up.

If i go to my computer, i can right-click the device and click eject, and the process is much faster, but it's extra mouse-clicks i'd like to avoid. Am i doing something wrong here? Why isn't the remove hardware app faster?

Multiple Audio Devices

Like many people, i have a television connected to my pc as a secondary monitor (extended desktop). My television is connected through the hdmi port on my video card, which includes high-def audio. I also have a pair of desktop speakers next to my primary monitor, which are connected via the analog line-out jack. I'm having trouble finding a satisfactory way to specify audio output to the correct pair of speakers for the display i'm using. I've set-up the volume control options to display both available devices, and they are both enabled.

Ideally, what i'd like is for any window placed on the extended desktop (tv) to automatically send audio to the television speakers, and for application windows on the primary monitor to send audio to the line out (desktop speakers). If it can't be done automatically, can i specify which audio device each window uses individually? Or, is it possible to have both devices playing simultaneously, with the option of muting one device or the other?

What i'd like to be able to do, for example, is watch a movie on my tv with sound through the television speakers, while my wife plays a game or surfs the web using the desktop monitor with her audio routed through the desktop speakers. If this cannot be done through windows 7, is it likely that audio or video drivers would have this feature? Is there third-party software or hardware that can do this?

System info:

Pc - dell inspiron 580
Os - windows 7 home premium
Video  - nvidia geforce gt 220
Audio -    realtek high definition audio

Raid 1 (mirror) Across 3 Or More Devices

We have been running a mirrored 2-drive setup happily since installing windows 7. However now that a sale has allowed us to add a third disk we are unable to locate an instruction manual or obvious disk management action to either add a new drive to an existing mirror, extend an existing mirror to a new device, or break/re-create the mirror across more than two devices (the dialogue does not seem to allow multiple disk selection). This is additionally frustrating since every other modern operating system, even free ones, has supported multiply redundant raid-1 storage for a very long time. Windows 7 ultimate surely also supports that solution?

Bios Cannot See Any Devices To Boot

I performed a full hard disk encryption on my laptop using truecrypt. Now i cannot boot. Before i started i took the precaution to take a full image backup using norton ghost. I used the latest stable version - 6. 3a of truecrypt. I created a truecrypt rescue disk.

My hp laptop was running windows 7 ultimate (32-bit). The laptop contains 2 x 640 gigabyte hard disks from western digital - wd6400bevt blue scope 5400rpm - part number 591192-001 - model number wd6400bevt-60aort0. The system disk had 4 partitions before i started.

When i ran truecrypt i opted for: "encrpt the system partition or the entire system drive"; "standard truecrypt volume" i.e. No cascades; serpent encryption algorithm; the ripemd-160 hash algorithm; and 7 passes. The truecrypt program checked my parameter choices and did a test reboot without any error messages. The encryption process continued for 32 hours.

After the encryption finished with a "successful" message i was a little surprised that the program didn't suggest an immediate reboot. So i looked around on the disk. My file systems appeared normal. I was able to get into microsoft outlook and download new mail. I was able to browse my favorite sites on the internet. I was also able to look inside word documents.

So i decided to reboot. Since then i have not been able to get my system to run at all. I have had no luck using the truecrypt rescue disk; or a system recovery cd; or even the original windows 7 installation disk.

I get a black screen with a 4-5cm diameter blue disk displayed in the middle with the white letters, "hp". Down in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen it says "press the esc key for startup menu". Pressing esc does nothing, unless you press it 8-10 times, when it causes a "beep" noise to sound.

The problem is that the insyde h20 bios supplied by hp is unable to communicate with either of the hard disks or the cd drive; or a usb thumb drive. The bios program does talk to the keyboard.

I have tried a strategy to reset the bios back to default. I removed the battery and power cord from my laptop. Then held down the power-up button for 15 seconds to ensure any residual power had drained. Then i plugged the power supply back in, and hit the power up key. I still get the black screen with the hp logo and the press esc message.

I tried powering up and pressing a range of function keys.
F1 gives me a , "f1.system information" message.
F2 gives me a , "f2. Startup check" message.
F9 gives me a , "f9. Change boot device order" message.
F10 gives me a , "f10. Bios setup options" message.
F11 gives me a , "f11.system recovery" message.
Esc gives me a , "esc. Pause startup" message.
. But none of these options actually work.

To me this indicates that the bios programme is working partially and able to intepret keystrokes from my keyboard. But nothing else happens other than the whirr of my fan, the led lights displaying normally around my keyboard and the sound of my dvd/cd drive spinning up, and then slowing down again. It appears that in order to bootstrap my hard disk or even bootstrap from a bootable cd the bios needs to talk to one of the (now encrypted) partitions on my system hard drive.

I have tried re-seating the hard drive cables and contacts, and even swapping the hard drives over. I've probably voided my warranty by unscrewing the covers off the underside of my laptop to access these hard drives. I don't have access to another laptop or desktop capable of mounting my western digital hard drives. So i haven't been able to try the option of decrypting my system hard drive by that method.

Usb Devices Not Registering In Win 7

Usb devices not registering in win 7 os except when laptop is restarted with usb device attached - no error messages displayed? I have tried everything i can think off this is my last resort! I am running win 7 home on a dell latitude d430 for which i have a separate media slice/docking station (which comes with its own usb ports/dvd drive/dvi port etc).

The problem i have is the usb ports on the actual laptop do not register any usb device when the laptop is on yet i do not have this problem when the separate docking station attached. The only way i can use a usb device on the laptop without the docking station is to plug in the usb device & then restart laptop. The annoying thing this is i have tried the following with no joy:

- Check device manager (all is well) & usb drivers are up to date (yes)
- Reinstalled win 7
- Enabled & disabled usb ports in bios
- Enables usb 2. 0 support
- Updateed bios version & chipset drivers
- Uninstalled & reinstalled usb drivers
- Separately scan for hardware changes
- Full virus check

I was thinking the usb ports where faulty at first but now im not so sure because if a usb device is plugged in e.g. Ipod then it will not register on os but will recieve power to charge & the same goes for my external usb hard drive as it starts spinning and led light comes on.
