Network Diagnostics Policy Not Working

I went to windows update and saw an optional update there and updated my laptop. After restarting my system for a while, i tried to connect my laptop wireless to my broadband, it did not respond to left click, i tried going to start button and click on connect to, after trying twice, it opened the connect to bar but it was blank and stuck. I tried right clicking on the wireless icon on the toolbar, it told me diagnostics policy is not working and asked me to turned it on, i tried many times but it wont work.

I have tried system restore to no avail. I have tried using services. Msc to restart windows diagnostic it does not open. Everything works perfectly fine in safemode in simple terms. I cant go to connect to on my start button and connect to a wireless connection. It does not open or when it does, it is blank and freezes. By the way i run a windows vista home premium. 32-bit.

System Diagnostics Report

I just built my new computer and installed windows 7 and have had the same problem with unexpected shutdowns. I generated a system health report and got these 2 failures:

Motherboard device status fail count
24
1
Motherboard devices.

Plugandplay device configured fail count
181
1
Plugandplay devices.

And clue what could be wrong with the motherboard? I got an asus p6x58d premium motherboards and as far as i can tell everything is installed correctly and there is no damage to the board.

Group Policy Has Locked Me Out Of Programs

Windows update/microsoft update, access denied to programs, group policy has locked me out of programs on my own darn computer! Update used 2 auto update me on windows programs and microsoft programs as well, not anymore! I only get updates on windows and i cannot change any of the settings. I visit microsoft update and it tells me some like error # 0x80070002 i have been to mr fix it, windows online solution vista, help and support, ive been online with microsoft and they take me right back 2 where ive already been to a dead end!

Ive tried to reset update components even deleted the files out of the data store. Another problem is regarding problem reports & solutions- i can view all the problems and report them but if i ever try to view a solution forget it! I have tried many things to resolve this but i still get 'the page that you are trying to view cannot be displayed' quiet similar to internet explorer cannot display the webpage. Also i cannot start or stop many of the services on the group policy service it wont let me do either one!

Also i am using windows vista home premium 32 bit operating system. Every time i visit a solution center it tells me that i cannot use solutions regarding windows vista that i have to go to windows xp for advice.

Disable Ie Add-on Via Group Policy

My organization recently began deploying sophos antivirus on our windows 7 32-bit workstations. After deploying to a subset of our machines, we encountered an issue where the sophos browser helper object (bho) prevented certain intranet pages from displaying. Sure enough, disabling the sophos add-on would then allow affected users to view the web page. I would like to disable this add-on on all machines for the time being, with the end goal of enabling it when sophos updates their bho to where it doesn't block content on our intranet.

I have attempted disabling the add-on by using group policy. The method i used is documented here:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883256. I've also attempted to disable the add-on by editing the registry per the same kb article, but i haven't had success with this method, either. Do you have any suggestions on what i can do to disable this add-on organization-wide while still allowing the ability to enable it later?

How To Disable Group Policy Restrictions ?

When i try to change some features/functions on my win7 system, the operating system blocks the attempts, telling me that the "group policy" prevents me from doing what i want and to consult my "system administrator. " Since my home doesn't have a system administrator or it department, this suggestion is useless. The latest incident was when i tried to add/change one of the desktop gadgets. When i research the group policy problem online, i'm advised to run the gpedit. Msc program but that results in an error, "mmc could not create the snap-in. "

How can i get gpedit. Msc to work or to disable the group policy restrictions on my win7 home premium system? (I've already set the uac level to "none" and my user profile has administrator's rights. )

Error - Admin Policy Is Set To Not Allow To Install .msi Programs

Can't install programs (. Msi?), And the error message says that it's because the admin policy is set to not allow it. But i'm the admin, i've recently installed windows 7, and, as the title says, there are some programs i can't install. What i've noticed is that they are "msi" files (i think) - don't know if this means anything or not. I get an error message (red "x") that says that the system admin doesn't allow such a file to be installed, but i'm the sys admin. I took a gander at the admin tools (control panel), but i don't understand most of what's there.

Mapping Network Drives On A Home Network Issue

I have two pc on my home network, one is a desktop running window 2000, attached to this is an external hard drive. The second is a laptop running windows 7. Before i upgraded to windows 7 i was running window vista on the laptop. When i had window vista on my laptop i was able to map a network drive to both the desktop's hard-drive and also to the external hard drive attached to the desktop.

After upgrading to windows 7 when i try to access the desktop or map the external hard drive i'm asked for a domain password. When i enter the user id and password of the desktop i keep getting the request for my domain password. I don't remember setting up a domain password at the time of the windows 7 upgrade.

Network Name

Running windows 7 home prem 32bit i just replaced my wireless router. I have 4 pc's connected in my network; 2 ethernet; 2 wireless. Prior to this change out when i placed my mouse pointer over the network strength meter in the taskbar of all pc's. All showed "banker".

When i started up the new router. The select a location window appeared on all pc's. I selected "home network". I had to do this on all pc's. All my connections are fine to all pc's. However, now when i place my mouse pointer over the network strength meter in the taskbars. I see on 1 pc. "Network 4", another pc shows "home 2". None of the pc's show the same.

I opened network and sharing center on one of my pc's; selected change adapter settings. I see the network . Its displayed as "local area connection" next line it displays network 4. And the next line my network card model is shown. If i right click, select rename. What is showing that can be renamed is local area connection. I want to change "network 4" to banker (which is was prior to changing my router). How do i do this?

Network Xp With 7

I get my new windows 7 laptop to recognize two other xp computers on the network. I have tried following the common workgroup advice, setting security to allow access and basic windows trouble shooting suggestions, but nothing seems to work. Sometimes all computers appear in the network window, but when i click on them to access, win 7 tells me it can't find them. Other times the xp computers don't even appear in the network window (seems to be random without me making any changes).

Is there any easy to follow instructions to get xp and 7 to network and give me the ability to share files and printers? I've tried doing this with w7 pc attached through wireless and hard wired network. Still had no luck. Can anyone help?

Network Drive

I have a home network with 3 computers running windows xp, a linksys router, and an older western digital my book world hooked to the router. Everything has been working perfectly for about a year. When i added a new computer running windows 7 (64-bit), i can access the my book world from the new computer using windows explorer. However, after some time (usually less than 20 minutes), the my book world freezes and won't respond to any of the computers. I realize that windows 7 is not supported on this drive. I am hoping to discover what to shut off in windows 7 to keep it from freezing the drive.

Home Network

I was connected to a home network by ethernet cable that worked fine. I purchased a new computer with windows 7 for my main computer and am now using my ex-main computer as the second computer in the network which has windows xp as the os. I connected the ethernet cable but cannot make a connection or be recognized by my new computer. The connection goes to a westtell router.
On the my ex-main computer i get a "dial up connection" message box. I have tired to re-progam the network and used the in computer repair and diagnostic tools. Internet works fine on the new computer.

Network Password

Have networked a new windows 7 system to linux.network looks good, but when trying to share files i get a prompt for a network password. When setting up, the software generated a ten digit network password. The system now does not recognize the password it generated. When i view in the vault i noticed that it is expecting an eight digit password? Why does it generate this password in the first place if i am an administrator? If i want one i will slot it in myself surely. Am not a regular windows user and i now remember why!

Network Issues

Home network includes 3 pc's, 1 desktop (hard wired; windows7 home prem 32), laptop (wireless, vista home prem 32) and 1 laptop (wireless, windows 7 starter 32). All pc's are set to private-home.

When i go to network & sharing on my laptops. And click map network. It never shows all the powered on devices. For instance, when i map from the laptop's it shows "the following discovered devices cannot be placed in the map. Click here to see all other devices. " My desktop appears under this. When i click see all other devices it shows the desktop.

Why don't i see my powered on pc's in mapping. What setting must i change, what must i do. All pc's have network discovery on, as well as file sharing on.

The so called network printer can be added on the laptop in the add printer wizard. The host machine has the 64 bit drivers installed for the windows 7 laptop.could it be a port issue? What port should the laptop have assigned to connect to the printer attached to the host machine on the network?

Creating A Network

I am having difficulties getting a network set up on my windows 7 laptop. I have a verizon pcmcia card for internet access and i would like to set up a network to allow my ipos and my blu-ray player to get internet access. I have gone through the setup wizard and created a network that allows access, but nothing is connecting to the computer. When i look at the status of the network, it says "waiting on users" and the devices trying to connect just time out without connecting. Everything is turned on (modem card and wi-fi )

Unidentified Network

I have recently installed ms office from disk onto my laptop (running win 7) and mcafee onto my desktop (running xp). At the same time i have lost access to the internet on my laptop.

The machine is seeing the network and has passwords etc all correct, but appears to be blocking my access as it cannot recognize it. The desktop is still gaining access as is my ipod touch and wii so i know i have a wireless network available.

When i go into network and sharing centre the system cannot show the full map as the network's location type is public. I cannot work out how to change this. I have tried to disconnect the wlan connection and reconnect without success.

No Network Detected

I recently installed windows 7 on a brand new hard drive and it went fine. However, when i try to connect to the internet, nothing happens. I have downloaded the correct driver, i think, but it still doesn't work. In fact, windows doesn't even recognize my home network. There are no devices listed under device manager. I actually just got my pc back from the geek squad. They "fixed" the problem i brought it in for, but they forgot to plug my hard drive into my motherboard. I had to do that.could an unplugged cable to my network adapter be the issue? If so, what am i looking for?

I have repeatedly gone into network and sharing center advanced settings and changed network discovery to on then check it a few seconds later and it is off. I have mcafee virus protection and have checked the settings there. All the devices show up there and everything seems to be set right. The network worked for about 2 weeks after i got the computer all be it not well but usually a restart would fix the problem. But now nothing. Any ideas?

How To Logout From Network Pc?

I have a linux server running, with samba file sharing. This way people can connect to the server from their windows pc's and see whatever they account allows them to see. Thought now we also have a public pc from witch different people connect to the samba server. The problem with this last one is, that different people should login with different accounts to see what they are allowed to see.

But, windows remembers the credentials and logs on automatically without having the option to login with a different account. I was wondering if it is possible in windows 7 (and if anyone knows, in windows xp too) how to logout from this samba server? I'm sure windows stores the login information somewhere, so removing that information would be enough to let windows popup for new login information, right?

No Network Connections

I just upgraded a laptop running vista home premium 64 to windows 7 and now that laptop has lost all ability to connect to any networks, wireless and wired. I've tried a different router and a modem to no avail. The laptop is able to detect the wireless network, how ever it keeps trying to reconfigure it, which is not what i intend to do, how is it possible for me to solve this problem without doing so?

Oh, and one of the error messages that i get is the infamous "wireless network adapter does not have a valid ip config". Anyone else find microsoft should stop suggesting to search for solutions online or through remote access when you can't connect to the internet?
