Administrator Permission To Delete A File

I have been running as an admin (i have since set up another standard account for my daily work), and i am trying to delete a folder on my external hard-drive. It says i need an admin/everyone's permission to delete the file. I am the only user. I have tried to change the settings for my external hd to share it and grant all users full control. I cannot find a way to change the ownership of it like suggested in one thread.

How can i delete files without getting this message that i need permission, when i am running as an admin or standard user?

Access Denied Contact Your Administrator

Okay so here's the deal: my boss just bought brand new computers for our office which all have windows 7. Now all are files are located on a servers which runs on windows xp. If we go directly into the server through our computers we have no problem accessing the file, but if we try to open say a word document through ms word, we sometimes get the "access denied.contact you administrator" message. Now i have no problem going through the server each time, but my boss prefers to open up his word documents through word. I tried going onto the server and changing the folder options so that everything is shared but it didn't work. Is there any way i can fix this problem?

Denied Permission As Administrator

Frequently when using windows 7, i am denied permission to do something. I am told i must have administrator permission. Sometimes, i merely have to click continue to proceed. However, other times, i am just told i don't have the permission and that is the end of the story. I have recently been denied permission to install a new program from a dvd disk. The frustrating thing isi am listed as the administrator. I am the only person using the computer, and it is not part of a network. Does anybody know of a workaround for this problem?

Rescuing Contact Information From .contact Files

Here is my problem - i successfully migrated all of my data onto a new windows 7 laptop - including all of my contacts which were beautifully arranged under the contacts folder within my user profile. I then, being careful, copied all of the files onto an external hard drive for in case my new laptop failed. (In fact two external hard drives being extra careful).

Unfortunately that is exactly what happened. I now have all of my contacts in a folder on the external hard drive - each of them is a person_name.contact file. Along with the windows 7 machine dying, i also lost (it failed) the original drive that had the csv exports of all contacts. So now i have .contact files but now windows 7 machine to copy them on to. (Only xp machines available - i never had vista).

Any suggestions how i can import the .contact files into something - ideally i'd like to end up with them in a csv file again because at least i can read that in emergencies!

Administrator As Only User - Permission Error

I installed windows 7, choosing custom to get maximum benefit over vista. The only user account i have setup is that of an administrator. I have not password protected it yet. I copy/pasted my mcafee program folders from my external hard drive to the programs folder and of course it wont function - i need to reinstall it from their website. When i try to delete the folder it drops an error message: folder access denied - you need permission to perform this action - you require permission from the administrators to make changes to this folder. As far as i can tell i am the only user and the administrator.

File Access Permission

I am moving from an older laptop running xp to a new one which came pre-loaded with windows 7. I am unable to access a folder with all of my previous emails in various sub-folders entitled c:usercomputer administratorlocal settingsapplication datamicrosoftoutlookoutlook. Pst unless i log in as administrator. I went into security under properties in 7 and gave my non-administrator user account full access, yet when i try to open the above folder i am still denied access.

I suppose it has something to do with the "computer administrator" in the file name. How do i go about re-naming this file so it is accessible to the non-administrator user, or is there a better way to make it so that all of my previous email folders are available?

Running A Msi File As Administrator

I am installing a msi on windows 7 from a user account. It doesn't get installed properly since it don't have administrator rights. I want to run my msi as administrator. What changes should i make in the msi? How should i make them. I don't want to write another program to run my msi like using shell-execute. I don't want to use command prompt also. I just want to change my msi so that when i double click on it, it should run as administrator on windows 7 irrespective of the account from which i have logged on. Can we use orca tool for this problem? How can i use it.

Cannot Change File Association

I was stupid enough to set a . Nut file to automatically open with cmd.exe (trying to use squirral to script for left 4 dead 2) and now i cannot reverse my idiotic mistake, anyone got any ideas? I have tried right clicking and going to properties, default program is not there, i can manually open it with notepad by right clicking and clicking open with. But the "always open with this program" box is disabled. I have also tried to change it through control panel/set associations but still
No luck. :( Anyone got any ideas?

Cannot Change File Associations

Files that have no ending prefix like .exe or .txt are not opening correctly. Example: a file named readme which has no extension is opening up with my mass effect 2 launcher. In the control panel-default programs-associate a file type or protocol, these files show up as blank or just. And are indicated as local disk.

When i try to change the file association, the box that says "always use the selected program to open this type of file" is not highlighted and will not allow me to change it. I think that there is a group policy setting or registry setting that has been hijacked.

Unable To Change File Association

So i'll explain my problem: i upgraded my computer from vista to 7. I then had a problem with a corrupted profile, so i had to create a new one and transfer all my files, and i'm thinking that the problem i've got here is related.

The fact is that i'm unable to change files types associations, but if i make it from the program i'd like to open files with, it works. Here is how i'm doing it (i just don't want one of those stupid answer where someone will try to teach me how to do it the usual way):

-Right click on the file
-Open with
-Chose default program

#The problem exists only if the program i want to set as default isn't in the list of programs appearing at this step

- I click browse
- I browse, and select my file.exe
- "Always utilize this program blablabla" is ticked

#At this point, my program hasn't appeared in the list and i haven't a clue why, so another one is selected in blue.

- And finally i hit ok, and the previous default program is launched, and yet i'm irritated.
I looked for answers on the internet, and it appears that i'm experiencing this because during my new installations, my programs aren't registered normally in hkey_classses_roots, but i'm not so comfortable changing registry, and i'd have to register each one of my programs. So i'm looking for a way to do them altogether.

I also think that it is a permissions problem, but i've got only one user and one account. And it's an administrator one! Thanks to everyone that will give me an answer or at least a hint on this bug!

Programs Dont Run In Win 7

I am having a problem with windows-7. I have done a upgrade from vista and found that was a mistake. I did a reinstall as a dual boot because i still needed vista to run the programs that would not run in windows-7. I found that windows-7 is a bigger problem than vista. I had to do a download to run my hp printer that i bought in january of this year. I still cant run my hp photosmart 812 camera. The software won't load. I can't get microsoft age of empires-2 to run with good graphic.

I have about four more that will only run while i am in vista. I have written to hp and they have no plans to update their software. I ran the windows-7 adviser and my computer passed. If i had it to do over, i would not have gone to windows-7 from vista. I have not found any reason to change to windows-7. I am going back to vista and just write this off as a bad experience.

System.ini

When i wrote this order (system.ini) in the start menu tab, i got a notepad window with the following information:

; For 16-bit app support

[386enh]

Woafont=dosapp. Fon

Ega80woa. Fon=ega80woa. Fon

Ega40woa. Fon=ega40woa. Fon

Cga80woa. Fon=cga80woa. Fon

Cga40woa. Fon=cga40woa. Fon

[Drivers]

Wave=mmdrv.dll

Timer=timer. Drv

[Mci]

My question is: does this information mean that my computer contains hacking files or it can be hacked by someone? And if the answer is yes, please tell me what can i do to handle this problem?

Hot Link Buttons Dont Work

When i load some web sites the hot link buttons aren't working. The problem just appeared. I don't remember any changes to the system. Running windows vista) i am talking about buttons that you click on on a web site that call up pop-up windows. This one site i frequent has buttons that i have always clicked on to call up results pop-ups from bridge games.

All of a sudden when the site opens the outlines of the buttons are there but no filler and no functionality. What has changed and how can i fix it?  I've tried changing cookie settings, and tried to find answers in various help areas. I know the buttons work on the site because i have checked on other computers.

Specific Contact Lists Live Email

Before upgrading to windows 7, there are several functions i had that are now not functional:

1) contact lists - i used to have a "main" contact list, special contact lists i.e. , "Historical", "family" and i moved email ids into the special contact folders/lists and they were deleted/removed from the "main" list. Now, i can create the special folders, and can move email id's into the special lists, but the email id in the main contact list remains - now in two places, not one. If i delete the email id from any of the contact folder/lists, it's deleted from all of the contact lists. Surely, the techno twits (term of endearment) didn't screw up a great function of email contact folders/lists?

2) what's with the faded look of emails now? You don't have any old *** like me who find this hard to read/see? And, my husband is legally blind and even with his enhancer the fadeout on the emails is almost impossible to "see". What were you thinking? If you want to distinguish read from non-read, use a different color or anything else. Where's the option for me to get rid of this "seeing insensitive" faded/fadeout look that came with windows 7? Again, what were you thinking?

Settings.ini Is Being Used By Another Process

My gadgets aren't working, neither is firefox. I have a problem with my sidebar, as-well, as a lot of others have on this forum and a lot of others. Every time i start up my computer this message is shown. I tried a clean boot and that took care of the error message, but when i tried running the sidebar it popped up. Besides that my firefox, keeps claiming that another firefox is already running which, from my point of view, doesn't make any sense.

This seems to have started after i tried connecting windows media center to my xbox 360 and there was an error. In searching the internet, i have found that quite a few people have posted this kind of problem, several after a snafu in setting up their xbox 360 for media center, but there seem to be no answers to be found.

Logitech Quickcam Express Webcams Dont Work

I have an older logitech quickcam express v-uh9 that doesn't seem to get detected by windows 7 (64bit). Old drivers don't work under compatibility mode and also auto detect doesn't seem to find a driver for it either. Software seems to install properly but then just keeps saying to plug in my webcam (i've tried every usb port i have on my computer). I have another webcam that has the same problems (from retail plus).

I'm guessing that his might be a trend with older web-cams?

Deny Permission On Drive C:

I was tinkering with group and users policies when i accidentally assigned "deny" permission to "full control" on the c: root folder to the "users" group. Now, since c: is the drive where windows is installed, my sysop is pretty screwed up;even as administrator i cannot access any file on that drive, cannot install almost anything and more. Is there a way to restore the permissions on c: without reformatting and reinstalling? Please keep in mind that being c:  the system drive i cannot install anything like msi or msu packages. I think im going crazy.

Error - Do Not Have Permission To Save To That Folder

When i download files and try to save them to my folders in 'd' drive, i get an error that says i do not have permission to save to that folder. I was a vista user and created these files and folders on 'd' drive. When vista crashed, i began using win7rc for many months and had no problems accessing the folders and files on 'd' drive. Yesterday i installed rtm. Now when i download files and try to save them to my folders in 'd' drive, i get an error that says i do not have permission to save to that folder. I am the only user and am an administrator.

I used the same user name on the install of rtm that i had in rc. I did change the computer name during the install of rtm. How can i regain control of my folders. I do not have any trouble reading the files in the folders. I have set up my libraries the same as all user files are in 'd' drive.
