Cannot Add Files On Mapped Network Drive

I am attempting to connect to my server via explorer, yet mapping a network drive isn't working correctly for me. I can delete files/directories just fine, although i am unable to upload any files. The error message i receive is: an error occurred opening the folder on the ftp server. Make sure you have permission to access this folder.

Details: the handle is invalid. There should not be an issue with permissions as i can connect via command prompt without problem, and i can delete files/directories so i should have write permissions. I have never experienced this issue with vista before, and the tech support on my host has no idea either. I'm running windows 7 x64, build 7100. I'll upload a dxdiag if more information is required.

Red X Appears In Icon For Mapped Network Drive

A red "x" appears in the icon for a mapped network drive in windows 7, even though you can successfully access the drive, i am on a wired network and only using windows 7 business on all, i know this happens for vista as well but now found it on win 7 machines, is there a fix for this? I don't have passwords on the computers and the mapped drives are set to reconnect at login.

Files Send To Dvd-rw Drive On Network Results In Deleted Files

"send to dvd-rw drive" when the source files are on a network drive results in deleted files! Windows 7 rc 7100. Have a mapped drive to another computer. I opened the folder, right clicked on a group of .doc files. I choose "send to dvd-rw drive". Responded to the prompt of "use like usb drive" or use in a cd/dvd player by choosing the 2nd choice. Then was faced with a prompt that filename.doc is no longer in this location cancel/retry/skip. All the files were gone! Not in recycle bin of either computer.

Loss Of Access To Mapped Network Drives

I have a sbs 2003 with all the current updates. One of the networked desktops has been upgraded to windows 7 professional as a clean install. When the desktop initially logs in as a network user all the mapped network drives are visible and accessible. After a period of time the networked drives are not accessible as indicated by error: an unexpected network error occurred. I can see the server in the list of computers but cannot access it either. The only resolution is to log the user off and log back on.

Mapped Network Drives Not Accessible To Bde

I have applications that use the borland database engine (bde) usually found in the control panel. Although my network drives (located on the server) are mapped with a login script and accessible in windows explorer, the bde does not see the mapped drives on this windows 7 professional 64-bitsystem. The user is setup as an administrator with full control.

The same user on a windows xp 32-bit professional computer has no problem. If i try to edit a file using wordpad on the mapped drive, i get "access denied" when i try to save the file. But i can delete the file or overwrite it with another file. I need to get the bde to acknowledge the drives. Any suggestions?

Mapped Drive Red X Disconnect

On a computer that runs windows 7, if you map a drive to a network share, the mapped drive may be disconnected after a regular interval of inactivity, and windows explorer display a red "x" on the icon of the mapped drive. However, if you try to access or browse the mapped drive, it reconnects quickly. This behavior occurs almost every day. My server is sbs 2008.

Unable To Sync Mapped Drive

My workgroup (with file and print sharing enabled on all computers) consists of 2 laptops running windows 7, 2 desktops running windows xp; 1 network printer; 1 wired router and 1 wireless router. I have mapped network drives which sync continuously. All computers run norton is. Workgroup has been stable for several months. Until one day last week i was able to connect to internet, entire workgroup, sync files on mapped drives, print, etc.

On that day last week i visited a client's office and tried to connect to my email (pop3) through client's wireless guest access, but access was denied. The next day when i returned to my office i was able only to connect to the internet. I was unable to find or connect to other computers using their name and unable to sync mapped drives.

My computer is no longer shown in the workgroup on the other computers. I can find and connect with the other computers using their network address, but cannot sync mapped drives. The problem seems like a file name recognition problem in file sharing function. What happened and how can i fix it?

Desktop Disappeared When Right Clicked A Mapped Drive

I don't have an error code - the windows desktop simply disappeared when i "right clicked" a mapped drive in windows explorer. Originally i mapped a shared folder from my windows home server to my new windows 7 system so i could stream music to that system through windows media player - it seamed to work though it kept having to update the library.

When the system was completely shut down, it could not re-attach the mapped drive even though i had provided all the connections information and passwords. Whs cannot join a domain so - in general - there is an issue with streaming music and video to my windows 7 system which is part of a domain rather than a work group.

When i "right clicked" the mapped drive from the windows explorer - computer window the little blue ring begin to spin and kept spinning for several minutes. When i tried to simply close the explorer window another notification box opened telling me that the program (windows explorer) had stopped responding. It then gave me three choices: restart the program; end program; or continue to wait.

I chose end program and the whole desk top disappeared, systray, icons, start button - the whole shebang was gone - though i did have a mouse pointer there was nothing i could do with it - the google search button was the only thing that survived. I had to do a hard kill and then restart the system. I tried this three times with the same results, the forth time i chose to "restart the program" and while it didn't close the explorer window it did allow me to restart without a hard kill.

My whole intent was to un-map the drive that would no longer connect because it is killing my start-up time as it tries to connect to that drive when windows starts - now takes a minute or two to start where before windows simply snapped open. I could be doing this wrong, but i have never had anything kill windows simply by "right clicking" on something.

Add A Shared Printer On A Network

I recently installed windows 7 64 bit and i'm trying to add an hp deskjet 970cse printer that's been shared on my corporate network. I went to hp's web site and looked for the appropriate windows 7 64-bit driver to download and found there isn't one, that it is supposed to be built into windows 7 and that windows 7 should find the driver automatically when i add the printer, which it doesn't seem to be able to do, at least for this shared printer. I moved the printer and physically connected it to my windows 7 system and w7 was able to install the correct driver.

I then put the printer back on the system on which it belongs and was still unable to connect to it through the network. I went through hp support to try to get them to send me the driver so i could point to it manually to get the printer installed that way but after much back and forth, they refused to do so.

The system on my corporate network on which the printer is physically connected and installed is a system running windows xp 32-bit with service pack 3. On my own w7 64-bit system, i go to control panel > hardware and sound > devices and printers and select "add a printer". I then select "add a network, wireless or bluetooth pinter". It searches and says "no printers were found" so i click "the printer that i want isn't listed". In the next dialog, i choose "select a shared printer by name", select the browse button, navigate to the system with the printer installed and select the printer. The correct printer share name is then displayed in the edit control and i click "next".

I get a message box with the caption "windows printer installation". The message says "connecting to hpdeskjet on nadpayne" on the first line and "looking for a driver" briefly on the second line before the message changes to "checking windows update. This might take a while. ". It continues for a little bit then displays a second message box with the caption "connect to printer" and the message "no driver found. Windows can't find a driver for hp deskjet 970c series on the network. To locate one manually, click ok. Otherwise, click cancel and consult your network administrator or the printer manufacturer's website. "

Is it possible to add this printer to my w7 64-bit system when it's shared out bya winxp 32-bit system? If yes, how?

I have tried removing folders from the library and then adding them again. They then show up, but disappear when i close the program and open it again, even though the folders show up in the library. The files show up fine in other applications. I have also noticed that the library retains some old filenames when i try to delete them but cannot open them. Any suggestions?

Network Files Vanishing

I currently have a network with a 2008 server and a variety of windows xp and windows 7 machines. One of the users running windows 7 has a short cut on her desktop from a folder on a mapped network drive. This folder is used to store faxes from a canon fax machine. For some reason in the morning she is able to see the faxes in the folder. At any random time during the day she will open the shortcut and no faxes will appear in her view. Yet one of the xp workstations next door sees all of the faxes. Once i reboot her pc and log her back in she can once again see the faxes.

I have disabled offline files in her local group policy, i have set the auto disconnect to server to -1 effectively turning off the network drives disconnecting i have set her netlogon batch file to goto servername. Domain. Local-share-name so that it eliminates netbios issues and solely uses dns to find the server. I am at my whits end with these "odd" network interruptions and not sure why various peoples files just seem to disappear and require a reboot to see them on the server again.

Cannot View Shared Files On Network

I have a home wireless network with three nodes, a desktop named desktop hard wired to a wireless router, a wireless notebook named pc-user, and a network printer, also hard wired to the router, that works with both computers. The desktop runs windows 2000 professional while the notebook runs windows 7 home premium. Appropriate folders on both computers are set for sharing. Neither of the users on the desktop, administrator or me by name, require passwords. The desktop can see and use shared files on the notebook.

The notebook shows the desktop as a node on the network but when i click on the desktop icon on the notebook network window to open a desktop folder i get a pop up window that says, "pc-user my name, a block to type in a password and an error message that says logon failure. " No amount of fiddling, creating passwords on the desktop and then using them on the notebook when trying to get into the desktop will work. I keep getting the logon failure message.

Mapped Drives Problem

Windows 7 drops mapped drives from windows 2008 domain server. I have a windows 2008 domain server, and several windows 2003 file servers. I have 30 plus windows xp clients and now have 4 windows 7 clients. I have a login script on the server that maps out several shares; 2 from the win 2008 dc and 3 from the windows 2003 file servers. The script works fine and all shares on all clients get mapped; w:, r:, s;.

The problem is that on the win7 machine after a period of time the mapped drives get disconnected. Big red x shows up. If you click on the drives you get errors saying error occurred while reconnecting, local device is already in use or you get error message saying the specified network name is no longer available. If i keep trying long enough the drives reconnect and i can then get into the files.

This only happens on the win 7 machine and only happed to the mapped shares on the win 2008 dc.
Mapped drives on the other win2003 file servers never go away. I do not lose my internet connection or my connection to other server, pc or devices on the network. I have turned off auto disconnect on the server but that did not help. This is a serious problem for windows 7 and my office and i can not find a solution on the net just a lot of finger pointing. Does anyone have clue?

Mapped Drives Refreshing Constantly

I am an intern, and my boss and i are really stuck. Our office is running a peer to peer style network. We have written batch files to run on startup of any computer that needs to connect to the servers (which are all various linux). The servers are set up properly to share with windows clients. This works on all of our xp machines, but for some reason the new windows 7 machines are constantly refreshing and losing connection to the mapped drives to one particular server.

I have tried replacing the network driver directly from the company's website (nvidia), mapping it through the gui, using net use persistent:yes, but nothing seems to work. I can't find anyone else having this problem. We thought it was an application conflicting (facetwin is installed on the server we are having this issue with), but we installed facetwin onto one of the windows 7 machines, and it still hasn't worked.

Facetwin is an alternative to putty that we used in the building for some time, and it is still used in areas. I can't remove the program from the server, but i don't think this is the problem. Please help. P. S. My boss purchased windows 7 home premium for these machines instead of pro. His 7 pro machine is having the same problem, though.

Randomly Lose Mapped Drives

We have windows server 2003 r2 with shared drives. We have windows xp pro and windows vista ultimate workstations and have no problems with any of these machines.

Drives are mapped using a kixstart logon script

We have just installed 11 new dell optiplex 760 workstations with windows 7 professional pre-installed.

Randomly on several of these machines, users are reporting that they lose connection to shared drives. A red x is showing on all shared drives and double clicking on these does not work. The pc's are not idle at time of disconnect.

Trying browse to drives using servernameshare does not work.

When the drives disconnect users can still access internet and exchange server for email which is also on the file server.

Logging off and logging on again is also unsuccessful.

The only way to get access to the shared drives is to  restart the pc.

Win 7 Search Programs And Files In Network Problem

My laptop pc with window 7 (64bit) can't see other desktop pcs running window xp via wireless connection unless wired my laptop then only i can see them on network. I have checked all work-group to make sure all are same. However, when my laptop in wireless connection , i able to see other wired desktop pcs by specifying the network path in "search programs and files" at start menu in window 7 laptop, then i able to add network folder by specifying the drive letter for connection and folder that i want to connect to through right click to network to map network drive.

Then, finally i can access to other wired desktop pc shared folder via wireless connection by this method. But i still cannot see them on network even-through i can access them by such method.

Remote Server Support - Mapped Drives

Remote server support - explorer mapped drives - "searching for items. " Delay. I support w2k servers remotely necessitating mapping their drives (net use z: server$share /user:etc). When using xp pro this was no problem navigating the remote folders via explorer. Now with windows 7 pro, when i access a folder on the mapped drive, the "location" bar at the top of the explorer window starts showing what i'd call a search progress bar (green) from left to right and the bottom status message of "searching for items appears. This goes on for some minutes until i either get a "the specified network name is no longer available" or "the semaphore timeout period has expired" or both.

I've disabled virus scanning (avg). My guess is that windows 7 is trying to either index files on the remote drive or scan the remote drive for library additions, for my benefit. Any ideas how to make this behavior stop? I won't be able to use windows 7 as my support op sys with this kind of behavior.

Network Drive

I have a home network with 3 computers running windows xp, a linksys router, and an older western digital my book world hooked to the router. Everything has been working perfectly for about a year. When i added a new computer running windows 7 (64-bit), i can access the my book world from the new computer using windows explorer. However, after some time (usually less than 20 minutes), the my book world freezes and won't respond to any of the computers. I realize that windows 7 is not supported on this drive. I am hoping to discover what to shut off in windows 7 to keep it from freezing the drive.

Disconnected Network Drive

I run win 7 prof at work on my machine that is connected to the internal network and to ms small business server 2003 r2. Recently i installed windows virtual xp mode (exactly as suggested by ms) and have had nothing but trouble ever since - which is slowly getting even worse. Current dilemma (after uninstalling xp mode and virtual stuff) is that having extended my boot system partition (i think i regret this) i have lost all connection to our smb 2003 server.

I have the famous red x over the previously mapped drive/s and get the report that they are disconnected (and "an error occurred - path not found") when i click either of them. I'm nearly out of venom now, preferring to just fix it with a handy ms tool or get some detailed advice (so often missing from the win 7 help let alone smb 2003) on what might be happening. N. B. The server also reports that the path is no good when i query it at its own keyboard about the user "yours truly".

Backup Does Not Allow Backups To Network Drive

Win 7 home premium backup does not allow backups to a network drive but it will allow a restore from network drive. Vista home premium allowed backup and restore to a network drive. I assumed win 7 home premium would have the same capability - wrong. Win 7 allows you to restore from a network drive - so how can you restore if you can't backup there? I thought the win 7 restore capability may have been included for previous versions of backup but it doesn't recognize my old vista premium backups.

Problems Mapping Network Drive

So i have a client who recently bought a newly preinstalled 64-bit windows 7 laptop. We migrated his data over to the new laptop, but he requested that he be able to map a drive on his xp home desktop from his windows 7 laptop. So in simpler terms, he wants to access a partition on his windows 7 machine from his xp desktop.

So what i did was turn on network discovery and disable password protection for his network on the 7 machine. I then shared the partition he wants to access on the 7 machine giving full control to "everyone" group. I then went over to the xp desktop and went to map the drive like you normally do. Opened up the map network drive feature in xp and then browsed for the folder. The 7 machine would show up in the workgroup network, but after clicking it, the hourglass would show up and no folders being shared would show up.

I then just inputted the path of the partition something like "greg-pcdata". A prompt then popped up and so i used the 7 user account credentials and then i received a "access denied" error. After hours of frustration, i gave up. I picked it up again the following day and then when i got to the point of inputting the drive path, i got a different error saying something like "must close existing connections. Cannot have multiple connections". Something like that. I can't remember the whole message since it was pretty long.

Anyways, this where i'm at and i've attempted a couple reboots as well as checking all permissions and creating a new user account on the 7 machine to log on as that user and i've also tried disabling the firewalls all with no luck. Please help out with any advice or tips.

Saving To Network Drive From Ie8

A client system (xp sp3, novell network, non-admin account) here is having issues saving documents from within ie8 to her assigned network drive. (I know more technical details for the network/setup may be warranted but for now i'm hoping someone has seen this or knows a fix based on this basic info).

None of her mapped network drives show up as possible save locations from within the ie8 "save as" dialogue. Her drives are  working fine otherwise; she can read, write, delete, etc. To them from windows explorer and other programs. There doesn't seem to be any further permission issues or drive mapping issues.

In this particular case, the file she wants saved is a pdf. Adobe acrobat is installed and works fine otherwise for viewing, saving pdf docs. The scholastic program she uses insists on launching the pdf from within ie8 when it generates reports for print/view.

Here's what else i know so far: when adobe is launched independently of ie, all of the network drives are available to save to. No issues here. This saving issue applies to all file types, not just pdfs (i tested with an mp3 file too). The pdf issue is just here at the forefront because of its tie-in with ie and the scholastic program that forces ie to handle the pdf.

Is seems to be an issue specific to this user's account permissions and ie8 only. - I installed firefox for testing purposes and from there i can save pdf and mp3 files to all network shares.
There are no settings within the scholastic software to tell it not to launch ie for it's pdf export feature. Even with firefox installed and set as default browser, it spawns an ie window. (Seriously, why would someone program that way?)

I have tried setting the url for the generated pdf to the "intranet zone" type in the security settings of ie. No change. I have confirmed that, as the domain admin, i can saved to these locations from within ie, again: the issue seems account and ie specific.

Clearly there are some work-arounds, but i'm looking for a solution and maybe a explanation to this behavior. A group policy issue? An ie issue? Both?

Gpo Network Drive Issue

I'm having problems connecting to our network shares at our office. All the xp machines work fine, but our 7 machines do not. I see this question asked here: http://social. I also found some research on editing secpol. Msc to accept more/different lan settings, but while i can open it, i cannot change the value. I've tried all kinds of troubleshooting-including wmi filters in active directory. Help?

Problem With Mapping Network Drive

I'm using a windows 7 professional now and i've found some problems with mapping network drives.

I'm using a network in my office and i tried to map a network drive from another computer in the office. I could do it when i was using vista, since i know the address and password of that drive, but when i change my os to 7, it is not the same any more. I typed in the address, a window called 'windows security' popes up, asking me to enter a username and password to continue.

First of all, i've no idea what should be the username, since i didn't need to type that in vista.

Second, i tried the password i used in vista, which is the password of that drive, it always says wrong password. Can anyone tell me what to do to solve this problem? I really need the network drive very much!

Restoring Backup To A Network Drive

Is it possible to restore a backup to a network drive? I created a backup of my win7 rc to a mapped nas. I'd like to restore the backup to a folder on the nas to verify the contents of the backup before installing the full retail version. I would also like to be able to hand pick what files i copy from the nas to the new install. When i chose to restore the backup to a different location, the restore button is greyed out when selecting a folder on the w: mapped network drive. I can only click the restore button if select a location on the c: drive.
