Win 7 Ultimate Upgrade From Vista Ultimate

Purchased windows 7 ultimate upgrade package since i have windows vista ultimate on my laptop. Purchased it online and after it was ordered, and before it was delivered, my @$*_$&_ hard drive failed. I cannot find the vista software that was preinstalled on the laptop now. Will the upgrade package work the same as a full installation? I really don't want to reinstall vista at all and then have to upgrade. Not to mention i don't want to tear my house apart looking for the vista disk if i don't need it.

System Image Reports Two Boot Drives To Image

I have a sata (boot drive) and an ide drive in my win 7 pro 64 bit machine. Is there any way to remove the old boot partition on my ide from the list of drives to image w/ sys image? I can understand the c: part (sata/boot) and the "system reserved" but i don't want to image the d: part (1st part on old ide xp pro boot drive that has 84gb on it that i don't want to bkup). Funny thing is that the ide drive doesn't even show up on the boot sequence in bios. I really don't want to reformat in case something happens to my new sys i can still run xp on my old one (i lost my xp install disk).

I just want to leave it out of the sys image list. Theres no way to remove it from the list without reformatting the d: part. (Old boot drive)? Can i possibly make the d: part. Non bootable without running the xp installation on it and make it bootable again later?Maybeny help removing it from the list would be greatly appreciated!

Run 2 Operating Systems

I have purchased a dell computer with the windows (r) 7 professional 64 bit operating system and now have found out that i can not run some programs because of the 64 bit. I believe i can run 2 operating systems by creating a partition on my hard drive. This i have managed to do. I had 3 primary partitions (oem, recovery and then the one with the operating system win7) i shrunk the os drive, created a new volume and thereby created a new partition (logical drive).

Now i believe i could just insert my xp disk that i had from previous computer and it should prompt me where i would like it to be installed and then i would have 2 operating systems to choose from every time that i start the computer! I am nervous to do that, as the microsoft help info says that it is important to install earlier versions first and that you could actually make the computer not work all together.

Am i understanding the microsoft info correctly?
How do i get around this?
Would purchasing a win7 32-bit and letting them run next to each other be an option?

Swapping Operating Systems

I purchased the windows 7 upgrade disk for home premium and upgraded my copy of vista on my desktop. My wife has a vista installation on her laptop. I was considering buying windows home professional but this would only be useful if it was on my desktop.

Would i be able to apply my already-used upgrade disk to her laptop?  It would be a shame to have to waste the upgrade disk i spent all that money on. In other words, did that update disk "bond" to the original vista installation i overrote on my desktop?

Installation In Multiple Systems

I have a total of 4 computers (2 desktops and 2 laptops) in my home belonging to myself and my brother. I want to purchase windows 7 ultimate and what i want to know is whether i can install it in all of my 4 computers, that is can i install it in more than one computer. Please understand that i am not talking about multiple users but multiple systems. Of course it will be used for only domestic purposes and not any commercial or business purpose. Would i face any problems if i try to install windows 7 ultimate in more than one system?

Shuttling Win7 Between Two Systems

I have two identical laptops at two different locations (identical meaning: same maker, same hw model, same amount of ram, etc. Some ids like cpu-id and network mac addresses are of course different).

To spare me the hassle of having to keep both systems in sync and having to re-install each and every sw twice for years i have been using an windows xp system, that i installed on a portable harddisk with these two systems, i.e. I shuttled the system disk between the two systems, booted from that hard disk and worked from it.

In short: i used a single windows license for both systems, but always on one system at a time only.

Apparently that setup does not work any more with windows 7. I installed and activated windows 7 on one system. Each time i attach the hd to the second system i get an alert, that i need to activate windows and when i enter the activation code it is refused.

What are my options? Will windows 7 accept that setup if i buy another win7 license and enter that on the second hw or will it then cease to work on the first computer? Or can i define two hw profiles (or whatever) that will allow me to switch between those two computers? Or are there win7 licenses that allow such hw changes without having to reactivate all the time?

The problem is not the licenses (i would be even willing to buy a second one, if that allows me to keep working in the described manner although i would definitely not find it fair, that i need two licenses, even though i always use one at a time only), but i want/need to save me the trouble of having to keep two systems up-to-date, identically configured and all my documents in sync. Because that effort was simply too much hassle and drove me nuts and made me come up with the scheme i described above.

Two Different Audio Systems At Same Time

Is it possible to play the audio from a movie on tv speakers and at the same time have a different audio playing on a headset (example, kids watching a movie (media player) as i listen to pandora on a headset)? And if it can be done, what would it take to do this using the same pc?

2 Operating Systems On One Hard Drive

I just downloaded windows 7 on my computer. I had windows vista and i had problems with vista, hence why i upgraded to windows 7. I guess something went wrong with the download because when i turn my computer, i have to pick which operating system i would like to use (vista or 7). When i went to re-install microsoft office into my computer, i got a notification that my hard drive was almost full (not even enough space to install office), and i would like to get rid of vista to clear all that hard drive space up again. Please let me know how to do this.

Rolling Back Operating Systems

I just discovered that by upgrading from vista to windows 7, i created a problem with my hp dv9000 laptop. So now if i want to ever be able to use wireless again i must uninstall windows 7 and go back to vista. Can anyone either provide me a way to roll back the os or to solve the problem without changing os. The problem is odd, i did the same thing to my work laptop and i am still able to use my wireless air card, and with my home laptop i am unable to get online with any wireless. It seems as if the system no longer searches for wireless connections, any feed back is most welcomed. Anyone with hp now know they refuse to develop drivers to support windows 7.

Use Easybcd 2.0 For Dual Boot Systems

My frustration with changing a xp / xp dual boot to a windows 7 / xp boot was solved in 30 seconds with easybcd 2. 0. Perhaps i missed the referemce to a specific level of easybcd? This is a beta version so one needs to register (it's free) at the neosmart site to do the download. This version supports an option, when you have pre vista os partitions, to automatically create the needed boot.ini and copy the required ntldr and ntdetect.com files to the root of the win 7 partition! Just say accept to the prompt offered.

So if you have dual boot issues my recommendation is to look on the neosmart site and forum areas and download the beta level.

Finally a happy camper you can now proceed to play with win 7 while still having my old xp friend around.

System Image Recovery Can't Find System Image

I am trying to restore a backup system image to my repaired pc. It is wiped clean. I have the "repair disc windows 7 64 bit" that i created in windows 7. Using windows 7 backup i have a system image backup on an external wd essentials 1tb usb hard drive. I insert the repair disc and start the system. Get to system recovery options. I have the external hard disk with the system backup image connected. Select system image recovery option. Says "windows cannot find a system image on this computer. Attach the backup hard disk or insert the final dvd from a backup set and click retry. Alternatively, close this dialog for more options.

Retry gives me the same message. Tried starting with drive attached, not attached, same result. Click cancel. Next option selected is "select a system image. " No system image listed. Hit refresh, still nothing. Top of screen says "click advanced to add a network location or install a driver for a backup device if it does not show up in the list below. "  I click on the advanced tab.

Option to "search for a system image on the network" or "install a driver. " I select install a driver. Find the right driver for the wd essential hard drive (disk.sys and partmgr.sys) and when i click on them i get "the specified location does not contain information about your hardware. "  Click ok. Can't find how to load these drivers i am being asked for. Funny thing is that on the screen where i search for driver i can see the wd essential hard drive connected to the system. I can also see the system image files but when i click on them i get the same error message, "the specified location does not contain information about your hardware. "

Ultimate Licenses

I am looking to upgrade to win 7 ultimate 64 bit, but here is my problem. After buying win 95, 98, me, xp (several copies) and vista(several copies) bill gates can just kiss my  big fat a**. I am not going to cough up $199 bucks a pop to upgrade 3 desktops and 1 laptop. He made enough off me on vista that he is lucky he does not get sued for coming out with another os this soon.

So here is the crust of the biscuit. There are several people selling licenses for win 7 ultimate on ebay for less than $50 buck a pop.

Installation media is around the same price. So what gives with this? Is it possible to install win 7 and get it activated for less than a $100 bucks. I am using the rc of win 7 and kinda like it but $800 bucks not a chance.

Anyone tried to go the cheap route and have any success?

I recently replacement the hd in my computer and obviously had to reinstall my os. I tried activating it during install and it wouldn't accept the product key. I tried to active and received the following error: the following failure occurred while trying to use the product key: code: 0xc004f061  description: the software licensing service determined that this specific product key can only be used for upgrading, not for clean installations. What the heck do i do now?

Printer Sharing Among 32-bit And 64-bit Systems

I have upgraded to windows 7 32bit. When i installed vista, i first tried the 64bit version, but found i could not share my connected printer across the network with a 32bit system. I could not install 32 bit drivers on my 64 bit system to enable other work group members to use my printer, and of course, could not install 64 bit drivers on a 32 bit system. Now that i have upgraded to windows 7, will i face a similar issue if i install the 64 bit version?

Reinstall Vista Ultimate

Because win 7 is computer specific, i can't run it on my laptop and desktop both (i only could afford and bought one copy). I installed it on both because the initial upgrade on my desktop didn't work (monitor problems). It is now working on the desktop, but i'll have to go back to win vista ult on my laptop (because of license req. When i register the desktop copy). How can i reinstall win vista ult on my desktop without losing everything (doing a custom install; can't do an upgrade)?

Upgrade To Ultimate From Professional

I had a copy of vista 32-bit, which was upgraded to windows 7 ultimate 64-bit (through vista x64 install disk that came with brother's pc), until i had a hard drive failure and am back to square one. I have now installed 64-bit windows 7 professional, again through a family member's install disk that came with his pc. This version, obviously, does not activate, however i was hoping to use anytime upgrade, and my product key to upgrade this to windows 7 ultimate.

Any suggestions?

Ultimate 64-bit Bsod

I have a self-built system. Evga mb with intel i7 (lastest bios updates installed). 12gb ram (mem tested ok), dual ati radeon (diamond) 4670 1gb video (crossfire currently disabled, latest drivers installed).

This is a recent install, upgraded from vista ultimate 64-bit. Sometimes it stays up for a while, other times only seconds after a restart. But i've been getting pretty constant bsod's for the last few weeks. I've been researching it trying to determine if all my drivers are up to date, and it appears that they are. I ran a memory test and that came out ok. This is becoming more and more frustrating.

Best Way To Upgrade To Win 7 Ultimate

Before vista 7 came out, i purchased windows vista ultimate from my local electronics superstore and it cost me a whopping 300 euros. I found that vista is absolutely rubbish and is ridden with bugs that have never been fixed in any upgrades.

The place i purchased vista from mentioned that i have 5 licenses with this software. I use this windows vista ultimate on 5 computers and it has worked fine for the last year. I know want to upgrade to windows 7 ultimate but i am being told it only works on 1 pc. Is this true?

I already feel like ive been ripped off and i shouldn't have to pay for windows 7 because vista is so bad and ive had it such a short time. I know intend to start a business where i could need windows 7 to work on maybe 20 pcs. What is the best way for me to purchase this at a good price. I´m dammed if i´m going to pay 300 euro for windows again.

Win 7 Ultimate Upgrade Fails

I just purchased a windows 7 ultimate oem upgrade disc. When i attempted the install on my hp laptop (vista ultimate home premium), the upgrade was proceeding well until the very last restart when i got the message the upgrade was not successful and the original version was going to be reinstalled (vista). Then the upgrade got stuck in a loop between this windows 7 error screen and restart. I even tried shutting down my laptop, but when it came back up it returned to the error screen/restart loop?

Upgrade From Home Basic To Ultimate

I will be ordering a custom hp dv8t soon, and it will come with windows 7 home premium. I can purchase 7 ultimate for about 100 bucks after academic discount, so it would be cheaper than spending 200 bucks getting ultimate pre-installed. I was wondering if it comes with 7 home premium, can i purchase 7 ultimate and do an in place upgrade, or is a fresh install mandatory for this?I was thinking, maybe after i purchase 7 ultimate, go into windows anytime upgrade, would i be able to enter the key off of 7 ultimate i purchased from academic superstore and upgrade in place?

Boot Up Problem Win 7 Ultimate

I have a recurring problem when i power up my pc. The screen displays an i/o error stating that there may be a hardware problem. To get around this i boot-up off the installation disk and select repair.

If i select fix startup it works sometimes or there is failure message. Something happens at this stage because if i restart the pc it boots up from the hard drive without a problem. However, the boot problem returns when the pc is powered down. If i select restore system image, it works but it only lasts until the pc is powered down. I have tried bootrec. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not.

I suspect that there may be a software problem and i have attempted to overlay the system software using the upgrade option on the install disk. The last attempt failed. Any solutions or suggestions other than having to reload from scratch and pay a fortune to download the service packs and patches.

Ultimate 32-bit Slow Startup

I recently bought a lenovo idea pad g560. I have installed windows 7 ultimate os and have downloaded free avg antivirus. But since i started using the internet the laptop is taking about 15 to 25 minutes to start, which was not the case when i had bought it. I use an ev-do usb data card for my net connection and always disconnect before shutting down. To solve the problem i have unchecked nearly half of the startup programs like nero and like.

Upgrade Japanese Edition To Ultimate

I live in japan, i bought a new pc earlier this year with a pre-installed 'japanese 32 bit copy of windows 7 home premium' and i want to run 'windows 7 ultimate' - my japanese isn't good enough to understand all the windows 7 options.

I've been trying to use the upgrade anytime function - which apparently is available in japan - but for some reason it doesn't let me even look at purchasing an upgrade.

Where can i buy an upgrade? Can i buy an upgrade from another country? Do i have to buy a japanese upgrade? Will my japanese software run in a windows 7 ultimate where english is chosen as the main language?
