Bios Boot Configuration Changes After Installing Win 7

I installed windows 7 ultimate 64-bit and every since then. My bios boot configuration changes. I have a1tb hd and an external western digital book. The change will often change swap the wd book to the 1st configuration. This does not work because it does not have the operating system on it. Once it changed the 1st boot to be the cd-rom drive.

The first time, i called dell and they told me that windows 7 changes it and to press the f2-setup key and go into the bios and there is a f9 key to restore to defaults. I did that and f10 to save it. It worked great for a couple of days and then something changes it back after the computer is shut off overnight and i reboot the next day.

One thing i did notice is that when i go into the system configuration under tools in windows 7 . Under the "general" tab. The use "original boot configuration is checked. I don't know how that got checked off but it will not let me uncheck it. The other setting under this tab are "load selected items" and load system services. Those are checked. The load startup items shows blue but not checked. I don't know what that means.

I am trying to figure this out. All the post tests on the system pass. And it is a new system (less than 1 year old). It is a dell xps 435t. Dell did recommend that i update the bios with their file. And actually did that before upgrading to windows 7. I have the newest updates on the system in total.

Problem Installing Win 7 With Raid Configuration

I'm trying to dual boot windows 7 and windows xp on a system using raid. I have the windows 7 dvd and a cd with the raid drivers for my motherboard for w7 (i got the drivers from here:http://www.Gigabyte. Us/support/motherboard/driver_model.aspx?Productid=2424&ost=windows+7+32bit#anchor_os).

When i start up the windows 7 installation dvd, i make it to the screen where i choose a location to install w7. My hard drive does not show up, so i click the button that says something to the effect of "install drivers", and insert the cd with raid drivers for windows 7.

I then browse to the location where my drivers should be, and i get an error message telling me that no signed drivers can be found. I got the drivers from the official motherboard website, so i assume they're the right ones, but w7 doesn't seem to like them. Can anyone tell me what might be going wrong?

Bios Cannot See Any Devices To Boot

I performed a full hard disk encryption on my laptop using truecrypt. Now i cannot boot. Before i started i took the precaution to take a full image backup using norton ghost. I used the latest stable version - 6. 3a of truecrypt. I created a truecrypt rescue disk.

My hp laptop was running windows 7 ultimate (32-bit). The laptop contains 2 x 640 gigabyte hard disks from western digital - wd6400bevt blue scope 5400rpm - part number 591192-001 - model number wd6400bevt-60aort0. The system disk had 4 partitions before i started.

When i ran truecrypt i opted for: "encrpt the system partition or the entire system drive"; "standard truecrypt volume" i.e. No cascades; serpent encryption algorithm; the ripemd-160 hash algorithm; and 7 passes. The truecrypt program checked my parameter choices and did a test reboot without any error messages. The encryption process continued for 32 hours.

After the encryption finished with a "successful" message i was a little surprised that the program didn't suggest an immediate reboot. So i looked around on the disk. My file systems appeared normal. I was able to get into microsoft outlook and download new mail. I was able to browse my favorite sites on the internet. I was also able to look inside word documents.

So i decided to reboot. Since then i have not been able to get my system to run at all. I have had no luck using the truecrypt rescue disk; or a system recovery cd; or even the original windows 7 installation disk.

I get a black screen with a 4-5cm diameter blue disk displayed in the middle with the white letters, "hp". Down in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen it says "press the esc key for startup menu". Pressing esc does nothing, unless you press it 8-10 times, when it causes a "beep" noise to sound.

The problem is that the insyde h20 bios supplied by hp is unable to communicate with either of the hard disks or the cd drive; or a usb thumb drive. The bios program does talk to the keyboard.

I have tried a strategy to reset the bios back to default. I removed the battery and power cord from my laptop. Then held down the power-up button for 15 seconds to ensure any residual power had drained. Then i plugged the power supply back in, and hit the power up key. I still get the black screen with the hp logo and the press esc message.

I tried powering up and pressing a range of function keys.
F1 gives me a , "f1.system information" message.
F2 gives me a , "f2. Startup check" message.
F9 gives me a , "f9. Change boot device order" message.
F10 gives me a , "f10. Bios setup options" message.
F11 gives me a , "f11.system recovery" message.
Esc gives me a , "esc. Pause startup" message.
. But none of these options actually work.

To me this indicates that the bios programme is working partially and able to intepret keystrokes from my keyboard. But nothing else happens other than the whirr of my fan, the led lights displaying normally around my keyboard and the sound of my dvd/cd drive spinning up, and then slowing down again. It appears that in order to bootstrap my hard disk or even bootstrap from a bootable cd the bios needs to talk to one of the (now encrypted) partitions on my system hard drive.

I have tried re-seating the hard drive cables and contacts, and even swapping the hard drives over. I've probably voided my warranty by unscrewing the covers off the underside of my laptop to access these hard drives. I don't have access to another laptop or desktop capable of mounting my western digital hard drives. So i haven't been able to try the option of decrypting my system hard drive by that method.

New build, was working fine except it did not recognize all 12 gb memory. I decided to update the bios. Followed directions and afterwards, i can get to the bios and everything seems to be ok. After post, i just get a black screen with a flashing cursor in the upper left hand of the screen. I have re-flashed the bios and have taken the cmos battery out for a few minutes. I also move jumper as described in manual. Any ideas?  Did i mess up the mb?

Bios Smart Error During Boot

First i want to be clear that there is nothing wrong with my drive physically and i am having no obvious software problems. The drive that is being effected is a new samsung f3 hdd. This problem doesn't occur under any circumstance not listed. In particular, this does not happen if i reboot from linux. This is also only referring to after i first noticed. Whether this has always (in the last month) been an issue or one that appeared within the last 2 weeks is unknown to me. Every time that i shut down windows 7, upon rebooting, immediately after post, but before grub loads (a boot loader) a list of hdd using ahci at the time is generated.

In addition to my new hard drive, i have an old seagate hdd and a newer samsung drive. Neither of these have ever given me problems aside from the excessive noise from the, presumably dying, sg drive. The error, which i cannot provide a screen shot of (for hopefully obvious reasons), is "s. M. R. T. Error" next too the serial number of the drive. Additionally my computer soft reboots shortly afterwards (a second or two), before grub loads. After going through post a second time, everything functions as if i had restarted from linux (meaning properly).

This happens consistently and without any other observable effects. I'm not sure what the proper term is for the list of smart information collected by a hard drive, so i will just call it the "smart log". The smart log shows absolutely no abnormalities. I have run benchmarks and self-tests, both read and write, and forced a check for bad blocks. There are no indications of a problem. When i reboot from linux, specifically ubuntu 9. 10 x64, i do not have this problem nor any other.

I also don't have any problems booting either operating system. While there are no obvious negative (nor positive) effects, it is extremely unnerving. Given that i spent money for this supposedly glorious operating system (windows, i didn't spend a dime on linux) i expect it to work at least as well as something that is free. After skipping over vista, i'm looking to switch back to windows, mostly because i'm getting tired of only being able to play old games that work in wine (compatibility layer for *nix systems which).

Having to listen to a error involving my hdd is very disturbing. I don't want to just hear "ignore it" or "it means nothing", i want an answer. What is causing this problem?[Edit]additionally, if you cannot answer this question, it would be helpful to know where else i can go.google wasn't of any help, and i'm unfamiliar with windows help forums.

[Edit2] it probably would be helpful for the reader to know that i installed this installation of windows 7 back in, i believe, in november without any noteworthy problems. I've used it off an on, but not that i have extra space to install things on (or so i think) i will be using it more.

Bios Boot Menu Goes To Starting Windows

I build a pc recently and bought windows 7 off of ebay. It was not opened and still had the plastic wrap around it. It came with a 64 bit and 32 bit home edition. When i installed win7 64 bit os on my pc, for some reason it installed as 32 bit. (I made absolutely sure that the cd read 64 bit and i reformatted 3 times to triple check {2 customs and 1 upgrade}). I talked to microsoft and they are trying to help me determine what the problem is.

My system is 64 bit compatible with:intel core i7-930 2. 8ghz lga 1366 130w quad-core desktop processor corsair dominator 6gb (3 x 2gb) 240-pin ddr3 sdram ddr3 1600 (pc3 12800) desktop memory xfx radeon hd 5770 (juniper xt) hd-577a-znfc video card gigabyte ga-x58a-ud3r atx intel motherboard me and the tech rep also ran windows 7 upgrade tool advisor to double check the my system was 64bit compatible, and the test showed that my system passed. So our next idea was to try the 32 bit disc to check if maybe the labels on the two discs were mixed up. When trying to boot the 32 bit disc, i hit f12 which takes me to the boot menu.

I select cdrom and when it asks for me to press a key to boot i do so. Once i pass this part it proceeds to "starting windows" and takes me to my login screen. I have tried using this disc on my laptop to see if maybe the disc was the problem but my laptop was able to start the setup. When trying to run the disc from my computer i receive the error:"the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

Slow Boot After Installing Nvidia Gtx 470

I've been having an issue where, after i install a recently purchased asus engtx470 without installed drivers, the computer takes 10+ minutes to boot. When the boot first starts, i can hear the hd accessing information, but about 30 seconds to a minute in, the hd activity stops, and the boot simply hangs on the w7 logo. After about ten minutes, the hd starts to access again, and it finally gets to the login screen. When i log in, the computer's performance is horrendous, and a gadget that i have on the desktop tells me that it is using a great amount of system resources, but doing basically nothing.

I have talked to asus, even rma'd the card and received a brand new one, but the card is not the issue. I have taken out all other devices looking for a conflict, and one is not to be found. I have replaced the psu and the problem still exists. I have gone into safe mode and removed all display drivers, and the problem still exists.

I have used a selective startup, eliminating all non-microsoft services and the problem still exists. I have installed latest nvidia gtx 470 drivers and it still exists. I have performed a clean install of windows 7 and the problem still exists (the install actually went slower than it normally should). If i uninstall the new gfx card and re-install an older one, the problem goes away.

I have booted into xp and used a furmark stability test on the card, and it works fine. Xp boots perfectly (doesn't hang on load and its performance is normal) and it utilizes the card just fine.
I originally believed this was a hardware problem, as did asus after we attempted many software solutions. But after trying twice as many hardware solutions, i am again under the impression that it is a software problem, specifically with the os. I have come here hoping that someone can help me after reading of people having similar boot issues; i.e: extremely long boot times as well as the hd accessing at the beginning of the boot, but ceasing to do so after about a minute.

This is realistically my last hope. I have literally no clue what is going on here or how to fix it, and i consider myself very good with pc troubleshooting.

Installing Xp On Win 7 As A Dual Boot On A Seperate Hard Drive

So yea just like the heading says, can i do that? I tried doing the bcdedit thing, i got stuck on. "Drive :windowssystem32bcdedit /set {ntldr} device partition=x:" because im doing it on a separate hard drive and not a partition im kind of stuck, im trying to look for the command for this. The drive im trying to install it on says "new volume (g:)".

See i have a program that doesn't run well on windows 7, the program has a beta version but its not so good. So until the real version comes out i want xp on a separate drive.

Raid Configuration Failed

Raid configuration (which is something that is recommended by microsoft) failed>>>> be carefeul - they hung up the phone on him b/c it was after business hours.

We had a redundant hard drive on my husbands computer so we could make sure we didn't loose any files on our computers. Well, within our home network we could not see each others computers which happened just recently and so we decided to do a system restore. My computer has windows 7 and my husbands does too. My system restore performed flawlessly . My husbands. Not so much - he cant even boot his computer let alone get to safe mode. We had been on the phone with microsoft for 3 hours, and i guess they wanted to send us to a different department - well they hung up on him and closed! I personally work for a customer service department and we try our hardest to get things done for our customers.

If there is a problem where we know we cannot fix before our "shift" is over, we make sure we transfer the situation to someone like a manager/expert to make sure the customer gets taken care of. Thats what customer service is all about. I am severely disappointed. By the way, the system restore erased both hard drives in the computer and now we have none of our files or programs.

No System Protection Configuration

My computer (only a few months old) has been acting kind of glitchy, and i wanted to perform a system restore to try and solve the problem. When i got to my sytem properties, and click the system protection tab, it tells me that system restore has been disabled by my system administrator. Problem is, i am my system administrator. My user accounts tells me so. To boot, i created another user account with administrator privileges, yet still cannot configure my system protection, and therefore can't perform a system restore.

I am at a loss. Nd just btw, in case someone can help me out with this without system restore (though i still want that situation remedied), some of the issues i have been having are: normal run-of-the-mill programs (ie, solitaire) not opening, despite my system resources being otherwise unoccupied; weird restarts where i'll manually restart, it crashes in the process, and then re-restarts and everything seems dandy; regular browsing links causing unwanted windows to open, but only to google analytics something or other, and then redirecting to yahoo, as well as certain websites lagging unendingly (in mozilla firefox only) due again to some sort of conflict with google analytics.

Halo 2 Pc Keyboard Configuration Problem

I just purchased halo 2 for the pc and the game refuses to allow me to re-assign my keys. For example, if i try to re-assign forward to e, the game tells me: "that key has already been assigned to another action. Please clear that action and try again. " However, i cannot clear the action. The only actions i can clear are the secondary actions in the right-most column (by pressing delete when the action is selected, or x on my controller).

Also, entering the product key that came with my halo 2 pc in the ms support site doesn't work - it only tells me that there is a problem with the key, which i have confirmed and had another set of eyes confirm, is the correct key. The key worked when i installed and activated halo 2 pc, it just doesn't work at the support site i reached via the links in the halo 2 readme file.

If there's no fix for the keyboard configuration, i want a refund. Maybe i'm doing something wrong, but i've tried everything i can think of to clear the default keys without success and via google i've found others reporting the same problem. There's simply no excuse to release a pc fps with a broken keyboard configuration.

Update: i managed to re-assign almost all of the keys by simply re-assigning them to other keys first instead of trying to delete them first. However, i cannot re-assign forward to e. Attempting to assign any key to e always results in the same message about it already being assigned, even though e shows up nowhere in the list of key assignments. Kinda makes the whole thing pointless.

Configuration Issue With Family Safety

I have recently installed a mail server and created new email addresses and new live id's for my family. I went to family safety (running on windows 7 ultimate - 64 bit)and linked my new live id as a parent and deleted the original id. Now whenever family safety is invoked it requests the old original parent id to logon. Of course logging on with that id fails. What can i do to repair this situation? During my desperate attempts to find a solution to this problem i have come across the warnings not to do what i have done - but of course it's too late now.

Ie8 Browser Configuration Error 102

Just upgraded to ie-8 on 3/19. One banking site could no longer log-in. I tried everything within the tools, internet options under security and privacy settings to get cookies enabled. It showed cookies to be enabled?  Ie-7 was not causing this problem and this is only on one site. I even tried deleting the temporary internet files that had built up but did not help. I even listed the web site under trusted sites to allow all cookies but also did not word. The following is the error message: browser configuration error  #102

The browser that you are using is not properly configured for using this site your browser is not accepting cookies. Please first enable cookies in your browser settings and then try logging in again. If the problem persists, please contact your financial institution's customer service for assistance with browser configuration.

I've never seen this type of error code. I downloaded the mozilla firefox browser and had no problem logging into banking site. Other than this one problem with ie-8 so far it appears to run faster than the ie-7. From what i can see, browser cookies are working ok on the other web sites. This is my first attempt at contacting someone, anyone that may have an answer or point me in the right direction. Additional details can be given.

I have tried downloading and installing the latest windows 7 drivers from http://uk. Kworld-global.com/main/support_down.aspx?Mnuid=1338&modid=22, but this does not make a difference.

I rolled my machine back to windows vista and the tuner works perfectly again, even after installing the latest drivers.

Boot Takes Minutes, Will Boot In Safe Mode

When i booted up this arvo, the computer took 15 minutes to get to the log in screen. Upon clicking the profile image, i had to wait another 5 minutes of unresponsiveness for even the desktop background to display. Rebooted 3-4 times, still happened, booted in safe mode, (which is how i'm writing this) and initially thought it was msmpeng.exe that was causing me issues, so i removed mse once i finally managed to get it going in normal mode. I thought the problem was fixed when i rebooted, and i had about 4-5 minutes of normal speeds before it slowed right down and became unresponsive.

When the computer is running, the actual computer itself sounds fine (hard disk is chattering away) but when going slow and unresponsive it only makes noises every 1-2 seconds, if that makes any sense, as if it's under a really heavy load. Hard to tell because i cant open anything. Ran a system restore, didn't do anything. I need help soon! I suspect a driver issue, but i'm just speculating. New Sata Boot Drive Wont Boot

I have a new 2t sata drive (seagate). It took about 5 days of research to finally get my computer to see it. I used seagate's disk wizard to clone my older drive (ide). The sata drive was supposed to become the c: drive. Disk management does label it as the c drive but in "computer" it sees it as f:i disconnected my older drive and when i booted up the bios kept looking for the ide drive. Although the motherboard has sata built in, there seems to be no way to tell the bios that i want the sata drive to be the primary boot drive.

Also with the original drive disconnected i get a "ntldr not found. Press control-alt-delete to restart. "I believe mybios is the problem. I have flashed it with the newest bios i could find, (dates from 2005) but no sata adjustments in the bios. How can i make the bios know that i want the sata drive to be the primary boot drive?

Or is there a way to trick the bios into thinking that it is an ide drive? As it is, the computer is recognizing the sata drive as a scsi drive. I read somewhere that this is not a problem. In summary, i want my system to boot from the sata drive. I would like to reformat the original drive.

Boot Problem - No Boot Device Found

Each time i start up the system the boot file cannot be found. I select the "repair start up" option and it completes it successfully with following detail: root cause found: the partition table does not have a valid system partition. Repair action: partition table repair.completion successfully. After this the system will start up. As mentioned, i have to do this at every start up, so i'm wondering why this partition table disappears when i shut down the desktop. I should mention that this problem started at the time i downloaded and installed the true image backup software.

The installation could not complete and one possible solution to the problem was to stop the antivirus program. At that moment i noticed that the avast antivirus was hanging and i was not able to kill the process. So i restarted the system, using f8 to get the safe start option so that i was able to uninstall the antivirus program. I then tried to install another antivirus application and when installation was almost finished got the message that it was unable to complete installation. I tried to install another backup solution (paragon), but also this one failed. On the other hand, i was able to install the firefox browser.
