Administrator Permission To Delete A File

I have been running as an admin (i have since set up another standard account for my daily work), and i am trying to delete a folder on my external hard-drive. It says i need an admin/everyone's permission to delete the file. I am the only user. I have tried to change the settings for my external hd to share it and grant all users full control. I cannot find a way to change the ownership of it like suggested in one thread.

How can i delete files without getting this message that i need permission, when i am running as an admin or standard user?

Denied Permission As Administrator

Frequently when using windows 7, i am denied permission to do something. I am told i must have administrator permission. Sometimes, i merely have to click continue to proceed. However, other times, i am just told i don't have the permission and that is the end of the story. I have recently been denied permission to install a new program from a dvd disk. The frustrating thing isi am listed as the administrator. I am the only person using the computer, and it is not part of a network. Does anybody know of a workaround for this problem?

And the screen went black and asked me if i wanted to allow this aso i clicked yes and what do you know it still fails. What do i need to click or destroy to download this file?

Administrator As Only User - Permission Error

I installed windows 7, choosing custom to get maximum benefit over vista. The only user account i have setup is that of an administrator. I have not password protected it yet. I copy/pasted my mcafee program folders from my external hard drive to the programs folder and of course it wont function - i need to reinstall it from their website. When i try to delete the folder it drops an error message: folder access denied - you need permission to perform this action - you require permission from the administrators to make changes to this folder. As far as i can tell i am the only user and the administrator.

Delete Protected Folder From Administrator Account

A friend of mine set up my computer with just an administrators account. Later i went back and created my own user account and changed the name of the administrator account.

Now i"m trying to delete a folder but i keep getting the error that i need administrative privileges to delete the folder, but i"m using the admin account! I can't change the owner of the folder because the renamed admin account doesn't have the privilege to view the folder's current owner. How can i get rid of this folder and correct any other folder permissions.

File Access Permission

I am moving from an older laptop running xp to a new one which came pre-loaded with windows 7. I am unable to access a folder with all of my previous emails in various sub-folders entitled c:usercomputer administratorlocal settingsapplication datamicrosoftoutlookoutlook. Pst unless i log in as administrator. I went into security under properties in 7 and gave my non-administrator user account full access, yet when i try to open the above folder i am still denied access.

I suppose it has something to do with the "computer administrator" in the file name. How do i go about re-naming this file so it is accessible to the non-administrator user, or is there a better way to make it so that all of my previous email folders are available?

Administrator Password Required To Delete Win 7 Old Files

When i attempt to delete the "old'files i receive a notice saying administrator authorization required. There is no option but either 'try again' same results or 'quit'. I have read a couple of items here on the subject but not on actually deleting the file. I need the space back on c drive. The files are also to large for the recycle bin. Do you have to delete a few hundred at a time. As i have been working on the laptop it seems like some of the files are still being used rather than they have become redundant, that so?

Cannot Delete File

Windows 7 - word 2007. Was editing a .doc file (compatibly mode) when word went into a loop where it ignored all input. I waited for a half hour and finally had to stop word with the task manager. The file that was open at the time cannot be deleted or renamed. Same results when system booted in safe mode. Message is "the action can't be completed because the file is open in microsoft office word". Word is not open at this point. Same result after a reboot and no other actions other than the attempt to delete same message.

If the file is opened in word, and immediately closed with no actions of any kind, the same result, still cannot delete the file and same message is given.

Surprisingly the file can be copied but attempting to delete the copy gets the same message.

How can i delete the file?

File Will Not Delete

I have a downloaded file on my computer that is like 500mb or so, and it will not delete. Every time i move it to the recycle bin and attempt to empty explorer goes unresponsive and totally locks up. I know that my hdd has one "unstable" sector which was not relocated, and is pending a relocation (via hdd smart status), and i believe that maybe that sector contains the file. How can i get rid of this stupid thing please help. The file is just an ordinary setup file for a game, with no encryption or protection.

Can't Delete File

I created a set of files with photorec (http://en. Wikipedia.org/wiki/photorec) on to an external usb hard drive. Now i can't delete them without extreme effort. The only program that seems to be able to delete them is unlocker (http://ccollomb. Free. Fr/unlocker/) but that delete at only one file per 6 seconds and i have over 88, 000 files. I think that would over 6 days. There has to be a better way.

The message i get under xp is simply access denied. I have administrator privileges and i also tried setting the actual user to have full access but even that modification to the files was denied. I tried connecting the drive to a windows 7 machine and experienced almost the exact same behavior. If i try to delete them normally i receive an error saying that i need administrator privileges, but when i run explorer as administrator i receive the same message.

I also still can't update the access privileges in windows 7. I have used photorec many time before and i've never seen this behavior. The the computer had a lot of viruses on in before recovering the data. Maybe one of them changed an access setting.

Cannot Delete File Problems

I downloaded a file with firefox, and with ms security essentials auto-scanning new files. This file contains no viruses, i have downloaded it before with no problems on a different computer using eset security. Once the download completed, firefox and mse froze. I opened the downloads folder and everything worked fine until i hovered the mouse over that file. Explorer froze.

Every time the file is even hovered over, let alone clicked, explorer froze. I also tried deleting it via glary utilities file shredder. That froze. Any way i can delete it?

The file is an .exe for a game mod. Link:
http://www.Moddb.com/mods/get-a-life/downloads/get-a-life-mod-full-version-v10
(It's 701mb. Test for viruses if you want)

I've also tried renaming / deleting the folder that the file is in. It tells me that the file is currently being used by a process, but i can't find any process using it in either task manager, comodo firewall's process manager or even glary utilities process manager.

Large File Will Not Delete

I have accidentally created an 11gb video file due to a clip being looped. Now i need to delete this useless file. However, windows will not delete the file. Every time i try to delete it, the "preparing to delete" dialog box simply hangs. I have waited for > 10 minutes with no success.

I have read that file indexing can cause problems with deleting large files, so i have disabled it for my c drive and deleted the index. This does not help the situation. I can also not access the file properties by right-clicking on the file name, the dialog box just won't pop up.

I am running windows 7 home premium 32-bits. How can i delete this file?  I have also tried to overwrite the file by saving over it and that doesn't work either.

Delete File Ehthumbs_vista.db

I cannot modify contents of a folder that contains movies i recorded from dvds. I recently installed win7 ultimate on a notebook and used the media center to load the dvd files for viewing. I tried adding some more movie titles to the folder, but am denied access. I have tried making all the related files and folder "not" read only, but cannot do that for the ehthumbs_vista. Db file.

I think there is a relation between this hidden read only file and my access denial to modify the contents of the folder. When i try to delete the file it says i need access from some other cryptic source (name is long series of letters and number. I am logged on as a administrator, but am never prompted to grant access as an administrator to delete the file.

How can i delete this file? Or if there is another reason i can't copy files into the folder please help.

No Security Clearance To Delete File

I've seen some very similar problems and attempted those solutions to no avail. Perhaps there is something different that i have missed. I am attempting to delete a duplicated file in my users/public/games file that has been causing conflict. Unfortunately, although i am admin and have established ownership, i still get a pop up claiming i need permission from myself to continue. I have dropped uac controls to non-existent (i am the sole owner/user of this non-networked computer), restarted, and still run into the same problem. What else can i do?

Delete File In System Volume Information

I had a hardware failure last week, which resulted in a new installation of windows 7. However i'm left with a 220gb file in system volume information on a storage drive.

I'd like to delete it, but i don't have permission, nor do i seem to be able to give myself permission to do it.

It's likely the result of a previous backup - however i have subsequently changed my backup procedure and i'm absolutely sure that this does not contain any data that i would like preserved.

Given that it's such a large file, i want it gone.

Running A Msi File As Administrator

I am installing a msi on windows 7 from a user account. It doesn't get installed properly since it don't have administrator rights. I want to run my msi as administrator. What changes should i make in the msi? How should i make them. I don't want to write another program to run my msi like using shell-execute. I don't want to use command prompt also. I just want to change my msi so that when i double click on it, it should run as administrator on windows 7 irrespective of the account from which i have logged on. Can we use orca tool for this problem? How can i use it.

In the beginning it said "you need permission from trusted installer. " But i changed that by going into properties. Under security tab, i clicked advanced option and clicked owner tab. I changed the trusted-installer to my user-name and administrator but i get the message mentioned above.

Deny Permission On Drive C:

I was tinkering with group and users policies when i accidentally assigned "deny" permission to "full control" on the c: root folder to the "users" group. Now, since c: is the drive where windows is installed, my sysop is pretty screwed up;even as administrator i cannot access any file on that drive, cannot install almost anything and more. Is there a way to restore the permissions on c: without reformatting and reinstalling? Please keep in mind that being c:  the system drive i cannot install anything like msi or msu packages. I think im going crazy.

Error - Do Not Have Permission To Save To That Folder

When i download files and try to save them to my folders in 'd' drive, i get an error that says i do not have permission to save to that folder. I was a vista user and created these files and folders on 'd' drive. When vista crashed, i began using win7rc for many months and had no problems accessing the folders and files on 'd' drive. Yesterday i installed rtm. Now when i download files and try to save them to my folders in 'd' drive, i get an error that says i do not have permission to save to that folder. I am the only user and am an administrator.

I used the same user name on the install of rtm that i had in rc. I did change the computer name during the install of rtm. How can i regain control of my folders. I do not have any trouble reading the files in the folders. I have set up my libraries the same as all user files are in 'd' drive.

Program Files Download Permission

I have a new windows 7 laptop (64 bit), and struggling at times to learn how to use it. I'm in the habit on my windows xp desktop, of downloading setup/installer files into program files, where i set things up as follows:

Program files
-Adobe
-Games
-Tetris
-Tetris program
-Tetris installer
-Inkscape
-Inkscape program
-Inkscape installer
-Inkscape tutorial #1

Sorry, i can't figure out how to make a single-space. Hopefully you can see that i put my setup/installer file in its own folder, alongside the program folder, both within what i guess you could call an "umbrella folder". For example you can see that i might also put a tutorial or some other related item - i'm very organized. So when i download, i would put the setup/installer or zip file into 'inkscape installer' or 'tetris installer'.

Then when i install or unzip, i do so into 'inkscape program' or 'tetris program'. That's how i do it on my xp desktop computer, and have been for years. But here in windows 7, when i try to download into program files, i get an error message: "you don't have permission to save in this location.contact the administrator to obtain permission. " I am the adiminstrator, my user account is the only one on this computer, and it's the adminstrator account!

After spending hours (5 or 6) with dell tech support, finally i am told that in windows 7, manual download directly into program files is not allowed. Files can only be installed directly or moved in after downloading elsewhere. I was ready to accept that and create a new sort of workflow for myself, perhaps keeping my installer files all in one folder, outside of program files. But then, while searching these forums, i came across this thread: http://social. Answers.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/w7files/thread/d2bb7c3c-bf0b-4ea6-8463-42461a56c105

It offers instructions for changing permissions. And i think i can probably follow those instructions without further help. But just before i did, i thought i should ask whether that applies to my particular problem, that i detailed above, including error message. Have i been misinformed by dell (it wouldn't be the 1st time). By following those instructions, will i be able to download in my usual manner? Or at the very least, can i try it relatively safely, without major complications?

I suspect that even if it doesn't solve my problem, it may reduce all the other permission related message boxes that keep popping up - moving files around, etc. I hope so anyway.

Why Windows Will Update Computer Without Permission?

Can anyone tell me why windows will update the computer without your permission. I was in the middle of playing the sims 3, did not save. Windows updated by itself. I lost my whole game i had been playing for 3 hours. Its supposed to prompt you but if your playing a game how can you see the prompt? Thats not fair. I'm sure there is some setting i don't know about possibly but that doesn't help me now. It should never restart on its own, well i guess i should have bought a mac. Your right windows its my fault. Should have just thrown you out the window and bought a mac.

Admin Account Problem With Permission

So in the control panel it says i have an admin account. But it's still telling me sometimes when i try to access files that i need admin permission. I'm also having this annoyance with office 2003 where i have to agree to the eula again every time i open it, and when i googled the problem, it says this happens if you're not on an administrator account. I'm having a similar problem with another program too, getting errors caused by running programs as if i'm not on an admin account. What's going on? How do i fix this? I am the only account on this computer and it does say i'm an administrator, so i'm pretty baffled.

Launch Specific .exe Without Asking For Permission

How do i launch specific .exe in win7 without it asking for permission? I set uac to high as possible because i am not bothered clicking yes a few times a day. However there are a few temperature monitoring programs i would like to start with windows without having to click yes and yes, as it takes considerably longer to have to do such things at startup it seems. I cannot find a way to cause permissions to remove this popup box, and do not want to remove the uac completely, is there any way around this?

Drive Is Not Accessible - Permission To Use Network Resource

I have done a clean win 7 64 bit install on c drive on my pc that used to be xp. The hard drive has two partitions c drive and d drive. The win 7 pc also has two other hard drives installed each with a single partition (e drive and v drive). The hard drives are not raid configured. The e and v drives were not involved in the win7 installation and therefore still have their xp configuration.
Prior to installing win 7 all partitions on all hard drives on the pc were accessible on the three other xp machines on my "workgroup" home network.

On the win7 machine i can access all drives on all of the xp machines. On any of the xp machines i can access the e and v drives on the win7 machine. When i try to access the win7 c drive or d drive from any of the xp machines i get:

"Pcpc (x) drive is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource" where (x) is either c or d depending on what drive was accessed.

I have tried un-sharing and re-sharing the c and d drive. I have also compared the property settings between the c and d drives that i can't access with the e and v drives that are accessible. Those setting are the same. Please advise any thoughts on what can be done to render my c and d drives accessible on my network xp pcs.
