Computer Shuts Down After Awake From Sleep Mode

I just built a new computer with an asus p7p55d premium motherboard. When i try to wake the computer from sleep mode (i've tried both s1 and s3 sleep modes in the bios), the fans start to run and the motherboard leds turn on, but then the computer just powers off. I then have to turn the computer back on, wait for the bios to load, and then i get the "windows was shut down unexpectedly. Start windows normally or safe mode?" Prompt.

I've tried changing all of the settings i can think of in the windows 7 power options, as well as in the asus bios menu. A friend of mine said it might have to do with acpi settings, but it doesn't seem to change anything when i enable or disable them in the bios.could it possibly be a physical hardware problem? Does anyone have any ideas?

Computer Wont Come Out Of Sleep Mode

My computer wont come out of sleep mode. Screen will go black after some time. Than using the mouse and keyboard wont wake it up. The screen stays black. Yet the light on the monitor stays green instead of orange (it has signal but nothing is there) i have to hold the power button and kill it than reboot to get the screen back. I never had any hardware problems in xp but im new to windows7 and still getting familiar with it. Figured somebody would ask some system specs.
I just installed windows the other day and downloaded newest drivers for everything. Also got all automatic updates.

In power settings turn off the display is set to 10 minutes, and sleep mode is set to never so im guessing its not really going into sleep mode. I now went in and looked at some settings and made some changes. In advanced settings i turned off hybrid sleep (i dont know what it does) i saw selective usb suspend setting that was enabled (dont know what it means) could that be turning off my mouse and keyboard thus why i cant wake it up? I turned off all sleep mode features now. And disabled all hibernate/turn off display features. And am going to let it sit for awhile and see if it does it again. I will report back if this works.

The system reboots automatically and tells me windows shut down unexpectedly. I just upgraded to windows 7 yesterday. I was always able to backup with windows vista home premium 64-bit. I have tried to format the hard drive but the computer does the same thing, that is shuts down, and i get the same message. When i ran windows advisor it told me this drive was compatible with windows 7. What is my solution?

Computer Randomly Shuts Down

I checked the "similar questions" options and didn't none of the solutions seemed to apply to me, so here goes!:So i've had this computer for a while now (i would say about two years). It's a home-built made by a computer-savvy friend of mine and it's been fantastic. It still has high marks in everything but my hard drive. I'm some-what of a gamer, and it's been running games incredibly well. So i decided to move to taiwan to teach english. I really didn't want to miss out on pc gaming for a year(+), so i brought this sucker with me.

I get to my apartment - no 3-prong outlets!  Get a cheap 2-to-3 prong adapter, buy a fancy new screen, and voila, computer seems to be working!  It made the flight with me! (Yes, i had to check it, i had the airline people put tons of "fragile" stickers on it, but that was probably mistake number one, even though i had the original box, and even though i still tried to keep it from getting damaged by putting in other clothes to hopefully brace the shocks. Nyway, so i'm listening to some itunes, for about an hour and then suddenly. Shut down. Oh well, i'll just turn it on.

Itunes. Shut down. I plug in my first-video-gen ipod to update new songs and what not? Shut down. I also brought my laptop here with me so after several more instances of random shut down, i focus on my laptop, and say goodbye until i can bring it to a repair shop or something in the states or have someone with computer knowledge take a look at it. My laptop dies (it was old and had some liquid damage that i guess finally killed it). So now i have to use my desktop. Hey, it's been working ok, even updating my ipod with no problems!

Oh wait, unless i'm playing music at the same time as updating it. So i just don't do that anymore! My computer-savvy friend recommends that i get a diagnostic program to see why i'm having problems. I get this thing called sisoftware sandra lite 2010 from cnet after reading their enthusiastic review. I start up the program and it starts checking. Something. I can't remember, had to do with running calculations and the computer shuts off.

Almost immediately after the test starts. I download and install starcraft 2. Successfully!  "Wow it stayed on long enough to complete it without shutting down! Maybe it's better!"Try to play starcraft 2 - shuts down. Damn! What is wrong with my computer! I see that the little icon at the bottom right has a red x circle on it. I click on it for the first time. "Troubleshoot a problem with your computer. "Oh, might that fix the problem?"Your computer might be encountering a memory problem. " Hmm, hopefully because that's easy to fix, right? Just buy new memory! So i let the windows memory diagnostic test do it's thing.

It restarts the computer and "oo, that's a new thing" the test starts. 1%. 2%. Shut down! So. Is it my memory? If it was my memory wouldn't the test finish? Is it my cpu?  There is a big fan covering the cpu and it moved slightly after the flight.could that have affected the processor? Is it the fact that it's not technically grounded even though it's plugged into a seemingly ok power strip? Is it something else? The motherboard? The fact that it's 110v here and not the us standard 120v?I've also noticed that i can browse the internet ok, but if i try to full-screen a video, it shuts down!

But if i don't full screen the video, there are no problems. It's also really hot and humid here, and i don't have air conditioning yet. Is it overheating? This case is a coolermaster cosmos, it's supposed to be pretty good at keeping everything cool what is going on!?

Monitor Shuts Off But Computer Remains On

Not sure if this is under the right topic, sorry. Well, the monitor will just shut off after booting up the pc. When i bootup in safe mode, the problem still occurs, although it took a longer time for it to turn off. Everything is still running though. This just started happening today. Right now, it seems to be okay, though it took a while before i was able to start it up normally. Several times before, when i tried to boot up, it refused to turn on. The graphics card fan would be on at its highest speed but won't become quiet again, as its supposed to. I had to turn off the main power at the back and wait awhile before i could start it up.

Could it be graphics related? Right now, using speedfan it says my gpu is at 57 c, which is hotter than normal. Also my cpu is at 40c, when its usually at 30 - 35. Usually my com is extremely cool, though i don't use liquid cooling and the room isn't air conditioned. So i don't understand why its suddenly like this.

Or is it a virus? Problem started when my sis tried to change her wallpaper. She said she just clicked on the photo and then the monitor shut off. Virus? Or coincidence? Need your help on this asap :) im using intel core i7 920, overclocked to 3. 2ghz. Asus rampage ii extreme mobo. Expertvision 8800gt sonic.coolermaster storm scout chassis. Windows 7 ultimate.

Floppy Drive Shuts Down Computer

I own a 2005 dell 8400 xp, it did not come with a floppy drive. When i purchased my designer i embroidery unit it required floppies. I ordered a small floppy drive and plugged it in a usb port. For the past couple of years this had worked fine. Now when i plug it in the computer acts as though something is attacking it and shuts down. I use frontier "peace of mind" for my troubleshooting and what not and they told me that when windows did an upgrade it must have down something to no longer recognize the floppy drive and suggested i call dell. Since my computer is no longer under warranted they wouldn't hep me. What can i do?

Computer Sleep

I set my computer to sleep after 30 minutes. It did go to sleep. When i moved the mouse to wake it up, only the wallpaper loaded up. No icons at all. I had to turn it off by the on and off button on the tower. Not a good idea, but that was the only way i could restart my computer, after it turned on again all my icons were there and i was able to resume all the functions again. Any ideas how to set it to sleep without this problem? This is a new windows 7 computer. Hp pavillion elite 137c

Troubleshooting Sleep Mode

I have a brand new hp laptop w/fingerprint reader. It's has continually had a problem coming out of sleep mode. When i was using just a password it would always tell me my password was invalid, when i started using the fingerprint reader it always says it doesn't recognize the reader. I could do a hard reboot (disconnect power and remove battery) and it would cure the issue. This last time i did a hard reboot the computer started up, the screen flashed and went black and it will not and has not allowed me to do anything. Keyboard and mouse do not function, black screen. Lights on the keyboard come on and the fans work but that's it!

Win7 Would Freeze After Sleep Mode

Windows 7 would freeze after sleep mode and a hard reboot would fix it. Until this last time went to awake it up and i got the normal freeze screen when i went to hard reboot nothing happens other then my fans spin lights come on and the cd drive.

Programs you are having problems with my keyboard will not light up nor will my screen turn on. I tried removing ram and swapping it around, unplugged hard drives, unplugged everything and checked all connections and even removed the battery from my mother board. My motherboard is an asus m2n-sli deluxe with a 3. 2 duel core athlon.nvidia 8800 gt i believe.

Keyboard Dead During Sleep Mode

To date i've been impressed with windows 7. I now have an issue that will have me moving to unix or back to windows xp if i cannot find a resolution quickly. I noticed recently when the pc was asleep that i couldn't wake it using [usb] kbd or [ps/2] mouse.

Pressing caps lock on keyboard gives no result as if power to the kbd has been removed. The only way i am able to get out of sleep mode is to press the front-panel reset button. I'm loathe to do that too often. I'm not aware of any changes made to the computer that coincided with this problem starting. Any ideas what could be going on here? Where do you start troubleshooting if the keyboard and mouse are unresponsive?

After Update Sleep Mode Is Broken

I had my computer set to go to sleep after about 20 minutes or so and when i would wake it up, it would immediately show the login screen and i would type my password and then the desktop would show up right away. Well then i installed some "update" and now when i go to wake my computer up it starts all the way back from my bios, running the bios initialization and essentially starting windows as if i just turned my computer on, then it takes forever to load up the password screen and after i enter my password it takes another few minutes to load my desktop. This is unacceptable its actually faster to shut my computer down and turn it back on!

Hdd Problem With Sleep Mode

When the computer goes into suspend, it hangs the hard drives, and doesn't spin them down. Im using win 7, 64, and i am wondering if theres a control panel or something that governs how the computer suspends itself. Im curious to know if you have ever heard of hdd's that do not have the spin-down feature in them. Why i am curious, is that these 2 250gb hdds came out of a raid array, and they are spec built to be continuous (for server type use that never spin down)which may be the problem. I don't know if its hardware or software.

Sound Dead After Sleep Mode

Every time my computer goes into sleep mode, and i turn it back on again the sound is gone. I've searched for hours and hours trying things suggested to others with the exact same problem. I've done troubleshooting steps, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, trying different settings in the sound control panel. Nothing. My computer is a self-built running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, i've got a gigabyte mobo with onboard realtek hd. I'm about to resort to just reformatting my entire hdd and reinstalling windows because i'm pretty much convinced there is no fix. This is my exact motherboard: http://www.Newegg. Cannot Print After Resuming From Sleep Mode

Will not print after sleep mode with win 7 pro, after coming out of sleep mode, 2 printers will not print. I need to restart/reboot, and upon restart printers begin printing jobs in que. Same happens when coming out of sleep mode on win 7, when trying to print from networked win xp pro pc. I need to restart the win 7 pro pc. Printers are hp laserjet 3030 and hp deskjet 6122 (with deskjet 990c driver for the hp 6122). I have had this problem since set up of my win 7 pro pc in feb 2010; haven't found an answer yet.

This new pc has 2. 8 ghz amd athlon ii x64 7850, with 4 gb ram, 500 gb hd (only using 10% of hd). I have avast home, lavasoft ad-aware, threatfire; all in memory; windows firewall or comodo firewall set at different times - never on at the same time. Right now this is the major glitch. I know that network printing will not work when win 7 pro pc is in sleep mode; but after coming out of sleep mode printing is no longer available. I have run the troubleshooter countless times, but so far no answers.

Pc Does Not Respond After Waking From Sleep Mode

This is beginning to happen more frequently. I put my computer to sleep, and 5 minutes within logging and using anything (ex.google chrome or itunes), the application freezes. I then click alt-control-delete, but it never pops up (usually works). Then i go the taskbar and it shows a "explorer.exe not responding. ". Then the whole computer just freezes, and then only thing i can do is hold down the power button for a force shutdown. My wife's computer is also windows 7, and it always works (doesn't "not respond") when she wakes it from sleep. So its something with my computer. Is there any solution for this?

Cannot Go Into Sleep Mode After Being Left Idle

Windows 7 home premium, dell inspiron 1545 laptop. My laptop will not go to sleep after being left idle. I have checked all power options, including allowing the laptop to sleep when sharing multimedia. I have checked the device manager for hardware which can wake my laptop. There are no programs which are scheduled etc. When the battery reaches the critical level, my laptop does go into hibernate mode. I am currently using the default power saving power options which do not work. I am fairly sure my laptop used to go to sleep with windows 7 installed, but have no idea what has been changed and don't fancy formatting etc. This is driving me mad. I'm not a computer novice, and have googled, tried loads of different options etc.

Dvd Drive Disappears From My Computer After Sleep

On windows 7, running on an hp pavilion p6020a desktop pc, after waking from 'sleep', my dvd drive no longer appears (disappears from) 'my computer'. The drive still opens/closes, but will not launch autorun or be accessed via explorer or a command prompt.

I have already removed the upper/lower value registry items when running vista (and they are no longer appearing when viewed with regedit either).

Computer Won't Sleep Properly

My computer generally works and sleeps ok (when i manually put it to sleep) . However, once a day or so it fails to go to sleep on its own . And i find it powered on, but non-responsive. Pressing the power button (for under a second) causes the computer to power off. And then when powering back up (with the power button), it does a full boot (not a resume).computer is windows 7 professional 64-bit on an intel core i5 with 4 gb memory, latest bios and drivers.

How do i go about fixing/debugging this problem? I will copy the "powercfg -energy" report . It may help you note a specific problem that i can fix.

Bluetooth Mouse Fails After Sleep Mode

My logitech bluetooth mouse looses communication after coming out of standby mode. The mouse does not show up in the devices panel and will not resync. To get it back i have to reboot, then remove the bluetooth mouse from the devices panel and then add the device again. When win7 was installed, it recognized the mouse without the need to manually supply drivers. I checked the logitech site which does not have win7 drivers available for download.

The issue is not limited to the mouse as a bluetooth speaker system has similar problems with standby mode. Anyone know how to solve the bluetooth standby issues on win7? System: dell m1330 laptop, logitech v470 bluetooth mouse, win7-64 home premium

Hard Drive Full After Sleep Mode

Problem occurred after upgrading from vista to windows 7.coming out of sleep mode, or logging in after computer left running unattended for several hours, c drive is full. Going into sleep mode/log off, c drive has 377/456 available. Have changed to dynamic drive and eliminated other partitions. Did not fix problem. No error codes. Restart clears up the problem and c drive goes back to normal space available.

Some additional information:

If computer left running and in lock-up problem occurs over time.

Normal steps taken to fix: defrag, minimized services, ran troubleshooter etc. Have run virus scans/spyware scans etc. Have searched forums for similar issue. Found something in vista forum regarding system restore taking up available drive space. So i have set maximum shadow storage to 10gb. Won't know for a while whether this fixed the problem. I doubt it though, because default max shadow storage was set to 30% = '40gb and problem was consuming 377gb.

I traced the offending files to the pc tools application internet security and/or registry mechanic in the common files subdirectory. There was an xmlfile in there that grew until all available drive space was consumed. I tried to get support from pc tools but all they suggested was downloading the current application versions, which i did, but to no avail.

I was at first unable to delete the file because it is in use when the apps are running in background. However, by changing the settings to turn them off at bootup, and using the disk cleanup application below, i was able to delete it.

External Drive Disconnects After Sleep Mode

Twice in the past month i have awakened my computer from the sleep state to find that the external drive was no longer recognized. I had to disconnect the fire-wire cable and reconnect it for the drive to be recognized. At the same time my bluetooth phone lost its connection with the bluetooth adapter on my computer. I did nothing differently as far as i know on these two occasions than on any other similar occasions. Does anybody have any thoughts on what might be happening?
