Cannot Use Usb Keyboard In Boot Menu

Cannot use usb keyboard in "windows did not shut down properly" boot menu. Sometimes when windows tries to sleep, it cannot properly recover, or wake up. For instance, it goes to sleep, but then does nothing when i move the mouse or press keys. I've installed a hotfix for it and maybe it'll fix the problem, however, when i use the restart button to get out of this situation, a "windows did not shut down properly" menu comes up, with the option of selecting safe mode, etc.

In this menu, i cannot use my keyboard to select any options, i cannot press enter to select the default "start windows normally" option and usually have to wait for the timer to run down. I've only had this problem since switching to a usb keyboard from ps2. Furthermore, there seems to be no power to the keyboard, the caps-lock key doesn't turn a light on when pressed etc so that it seems like the keyboard is non-functional in this menu. I can enter the bios and work the bios with this keyboard indicating the problem may not be hardware.

Cannot Boot With Usb Keyboard Failure

I'm running windows 7 ultimate on a dell dimension e520, this has run without trouble since install. The machine is fully patched and with upto avira and immunet and a full scan with malwarebytes last sunday came back totally clean. However yesterday a blue error screen came up and before the machine powered down i saw a message about usb.sys but did not have enough time to read it !

When i power up the machine the keyboard lights initially work but as soon as i try to use it to boot the machine or boot from the install dvd the keyboard fails. I have a midi music keyboard pluged in, the lights on this do not indicate failure, but moving my qwerty keyboard to use a usb socket that works with that also fails.

Os Boot Menu Time Setting

I don't know what this black screen is called , but its the one, where  u can choose which operating system u want to use. For example if u installed windows 7 and windows vista and u open ur computer  it gives u a choice  to choose which windows u wanna use. Basically i installed windows 7 twice and  now i have to choose between windows 7 and windows 7 the first one is the working one, the second one not. But it takes 28 seconds to be chosen automatically. I was wondering if i can either decrease these 28 seconds to 1 second for example or just remove the second windows 7 to make it run with the first one automatically.

Bios Boot Menu Goes To Starting Windows

I build a pc recently and bought windows 7 off of ebay. It was not opened and still had the plastic wrap around it. It came with a 64 bit and 32 bit home edition. When i installed win7 64 bit os on my pc, for some reason it installed as 32 bit. (I made absolutely sure that the cd read 64 bit and i reformatted 3 times to triple check {2 customs and 1 upgrade}). I talked to microsoft and they are trying to help me determine what the problem is.

My system is 64 bit compatible with:intel core i7-930 2. 8ghz lga 1366 130w quad-core desktop processor corsair dominator 6gb (3 x 2gb) 240-pin ddr3 sdram ddr3 1600 (pc3 12800) desktop memory xfx radeon hd 5770 (juniper xt) hd-577a-znfc video card gigabyte ga-x58a-ud3r atx intel motherboard me and the tech rep also ran windows 7 upgrade tool advisor to double check the my system was 64bit compatible, and the test showed that my system passed. So our next idea was to try the 32 bit disc to check if maybe the labels on the two discs were mixed up. When trying to boot the 32 bit disc, i hit f12 which takes me to the boot menu.

I select cdrom and when it asks for me to press a key to boot i do so. Once i pass this part it proceeds to "starting windows" and takes me to my login screen. I have tried using this disc on my laptop to see if maybe the disc was the problem but my laptop was able to start the setup. When trying to run the disc from my computer i receive the error:"the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

Repair Windows 7 Boot Menu On Uefi

I accidentally deleted the windows 7 boot entry in the windows boot manager. My laptop uses uefi instead of bios. The os is windows 7 64bit home premium. Here what i tried and its results: use startup repair: i tried to use startup repair from a windows 7 installation disk (actually, a usb). However, it said that the recovery options was not compatible. There are many causes as mentioned in causes of incompatibility and i was able to eliminate these:64-bit installation disk: checked windows 7 installer boot to uefi: don't know how to check cpu and os architecture are the same: processor (cpu?) Architecture is amd64, os is windows_nt (don't know if the same or not)
Many suggest to use startup repair but i don't know how to make this work.

Use bootrec following repair windows 8 efi bootloader: three commands finished successfully but i still doesn't see the windows 7 boot entry in the windows boot manager. Use diskpart: open diskpart from the command promt from the windows 7 installation usb. View full post.

No Boot Menu Dual Booting On Separate Hard Drives

I'm trying to dual boot vista and windows 7. I have vista installed on one hard drive and windows 7 installed on a separate hard drive. I can boot both by changing the boot order in the bios but i do not get a boot menu on either os.

Here is what i get using "bcdedit /enum all" on vista:

Plugging Usb Keyboard & Mouse Into Different Usb Ports

I have a usb keyboard and mouse. Recently, i had to relocate my computer, so the keyboard and mouse were unplugged. My question is: if i plug the keyboard and mouse back, but not into the original usb ports, will this cause windows 7 to create a new hardware profile, or any other registry changes as a result?

Usb Mouse And Keyboard Disabled

I managed to disable mouse and keyboard somehow when working in the device manager. My computer (acer revo 3600) only has usb ports so i can't undo my changes. The usb ports and mouse&keyboard are working. They work when i'm in the bios. The usb ports are not completely shut off in windows, my usb wlan is working. I've tried this:

- Safe mode (and all other modes offered in boot)
- Plug in new (previously unconnected) mouse in safe mode and normal mode.

What can i do?! Options are quite limited when i can't change anything in windows (7 x64).

Keyboard Problem When Used With Usb Converter

I have an old microsoft ps2/usb mouse, it's called intelli-mouse w/intellieye v1. 0 it has a part number of x04-91790. The mouse is plugged into a 2xps/2 to usb converter which obviously plugs into the usb port on the computer. The motherboard is a very recent h55 chipset (gigabyte ga-h55m-ud2h-f4) which only comes with one port for the keyboard / mouse.

I also use a kvm switch as i control two pcs with the same keyboard/mouse. I now find that after a random amount of minutes of using the keyboad and mouse together (only within windows 7) that i'm no longer able to edit any document that i may be working in or control the screen by pressing the keyboard. It is almost as though whatever i press on the keyboard activates other functions in windows and the only way for the pc to correct itself is for it to be rebooted !

This is not a virus or spyware issue and all drivers are current and up-todate from their respective manufacturers or intel.

No Usb Devices Works Except Mouse / Keyboard

There are some threads here about non working usb devices. I read them all (i think) and tried all different kind of solutions but none is working. I have a hp ex500aa-b1u desktop. I used to have xp enterprise. One day the mouse and keyboard stopped working. I suspected some kind of virus and after a lot of work managed to start it in fail safe mode, backed up my files and then reinstalled xp.
Mouse and keyboard started working but all oter devices i put in (usb flash memory, camcorder, usb disk etc) just get the message "unknown usb device". I installed w7 enterprise instead but still have the same problem.

Is it possible that i had a virus that did something to my bios? I also have a built in usb disk that came with the computer. This disk is found after maybe 15 minutes after startup. But the speed when copying something from it is very slow. Maybe 700 kb/s.

Add Wireless Keyboard To Dual Receiver Usb

Would like to add a wireless keyboard to a "dual receiver usb" for a wireless mouse. I successfully installed the small "inteli-mouse" (microsoft wireless mobile mouse 6000) with the aid of the on-line update center i was sent to when i inserted the install cd. I like the tiny usb receiver, is there any way to update the driver so i can also use my "microsoft wireless keyboard 700 v2. 0" with this usb receiver? I'm running "windows 7 home premium 64 bit on a hp g71 laptop.

I like the wireless keyboard because the screen is very large & due to some physical issues i can keep the keyboard closer to me and the screen further away when home. Not important, just wondering?

Usb Mouse / Keyboard Drivers Failing To Install

I have a strange problem with mouse and keyboard usb drivers can anyone suggest any way forward?

I have a desktop computer running windows 7, upgraded using a custom install from windows vista. It has a pair of hard drives configured as raid 1 and a usb mouse and keyboard. I recently had to replace the power supply after the old one failed and ever since then at each startup of windows i get a message that it is trying to install usb drives for 2 keyboards and one mouse (i only have 1 keyboard!) By downloading drivers from windows update. The install always fails and after this i am unable to use the mouse or keyboard in any usb ports apart from the ones they were connected to when windows started.

Trying to connect any other mouse or keyboard to the other usb ports after windows has started again generates the "device driver software was not successfully installed" message and the device is not usable.

Other usb devices work fine - e.g. I can plug a memory stick into any of the usb ports and that installs fine and works perfectly.

I tried doing a manual update in device manager which shows 2 keyboards and a mouse under the human interface device section but each time i tried update driver i had a "file not found" error and the device disappeared from device manager. I could only get them back by doing a system restore.

I have tried a windows repair boot, a chkdsk, a sfc /scannow and even a full system image restore back to before my power supply failed but none of these acions have made any difference.

I'm considering a full reinstall of windows 7 but this will be a pain as there will be quite a few applications to reinstall and i don't know for sure if it will fix the problem.

Can anyone suggest anything else?  Is it possible to manually copy / check / replace the exact driver files for usb keyboard and mouse?

Usb Keyboard / Mouse Not Working After Upgrade To Win7

Upgraded vaio vgn-fz290 to win 7 from vista. Have ms digital media pro keyboard and wireless intellimouse explorer 2. 0. Both work fine if i use them on another computer, and worked fine on the vaio before upgrading to w7. When i plug them in they do not show up in the "safely remove hardware" or under usb devices, keyboards or mice in device manager. When i plug the keyboard in the "f" function light comes on for 1 second and then goes out. When i plug in the wireless receiver for the mouse no lights come on.

Basically the computer acts like nothing is even plugged into the usb. Tried every usb port, same result. Also used my usb flash drive successfully in each usb port, so it is not a bad usb port. No splats show up in device manager. I have also tried an old usb keyboard, and get the same result. If i open "safely remove hardware" i see all other usb devices plugged in, but not the keyboard or mouse.

I have installed the w7 drivers from ms and no difference. I have uninstalled the drivers, no difference. I have uninstalled my primary laptop keyboard and rebooted, still won't recognize the usb keyboard. I can plug the keyboard and/or mouse into my mac mini server and it works like a champ.

I am utterly clueless on what else i can do and hate using a small keyboard and track pad at my desk.

Usb Mouse / Keyboard Stop Working Correctly

I originally had windows vista x64 on my computer (it is 8 months old, intel quad core 2. 0ghz, 6 gb ram etc). I installed windows 7 rc in july (clean install) and used it until 2 weeks ago, when i installed windows 7 professional edition (i reinstalled vista and then installed the windows 7 upgrade using the clean install).

Over the past few days, i have had problems with mouse and keyboard (both usb connected). The inputs start acting bizarrely. For example, using the scroll button in firefox causes the font sizes to change in firefox, instead of scrolling, and clicking on links opens the link in a new windows, not in the same window. Right clicking stops functioning. The keyboard input goes simultaneously strange- i can no longer type (for eg in firefox search boxes, or in wmp), of if i type, it uses another command to open something etc.

I do not understand what is going on! However, after rebooting, the problem goes away and everything works fine, until the next time it happens (has happened 3x now). I have tried my mouse and keyboard in my old laptop and they both seem to work fine. I have not receive any driver errors/ virus messages/ malfunction(bitdefender 2010) messages of any kind, and as far as i know, all drivers are up to date.

Does anyone know what is going on? Is there something wrong with my motherboard? And if so, why are there no error messages? And why do things work again after rebooting?

Cannot Boot Win7 From The Usb

I bought the 64 bits of win7 from digital river. I am running 32 bits if vista and want to upgrade to 64 bits win7 i did create the usb bootable, but i can't install on my computer. I got iso file and download it by using the windows 7 dvd/usb download tool to my 8 gb usb. I set the files as the as administrator before i restart the computer. After i restarted the computer to boot menu and choose the usb driver boot nothing happen!

Ps. When i open win7 setup.exe file as the as administrator, it says "setup.exe is not a valid window application". Can i really install 64 bit win7 on my 32 bit vista 4gb computer? I did the windows 7 upgrade advisor and it says i have to do the customer install, but i cannot even open it because it won't reboot my computer.

Boot Up From Usb Dvd Drive

I know it can be done, but my bios only has the option, apart from the 'obvious' ones, of booting from usb flash - is that the same as the external usb dvd drive? (Have to use external dvd drive as one in laptop defunct) if not, i will have to boot from a usb stick - have copied the instructions from to make my usb drive ready, but some sites say it has to be ntsc formatted, and also made bootable with the bootsect utility. Which is correct?

Usb Ports Disabled After Every Boot Up

I have been running windows 7 for a few days. Been quite happy with it. Suddenly, my usb stuff started failing. After several attempts to locate the culprit i found they had error messages in the device manager. I re-enabled the ports and presto. They all work again. Great, then i rebooted. All disabled again. I changed/unchecked the power saving mode after reading up about that and it is staying unchecked. But the ports are still disabling every time i reboot. Running a 2 year old hp pavilian. 64 bit win7 installed intel core 2 quad. 3 gig ram. 2 external dvd burners, usb keyboard, wireless mouse. Nothing special.

Usb Hard Drive Detected As New On Every Boot

I'm using a usb hard drive (a redrive, from hitachi) for storage of recorded tv. Recently, i installed windows 7 on the internal hard drive for the same machine, and now every time the computer boots up, i get a dialog telling me that windows 7 has detected a new usb device, and asking what it should do (open the folders, start a slideshow, whatever).

I just want the pc to treat this like another hard drive, and not a removable usb peripheral. Any way to do that?  This worked in vista.

Dual Boot 7 On Internal Hdd And Xp On External Usb Connected Ide

One of my laptops is an old acer aspire 5610. I want to have a dual boot system, 7 and xp, but 7 on the internal hdd and xp on the external usb-ide hdd, and by that, i mean a 100gb ide hard disk placed into a hdd enclosure, connected to the computer through usb. It also has separate power supply. The internal notebook's hdd is also ide.

I have read that installing windows on external usb-ide hard disk may be possible, depending on my mainboard configuration. I have already checked my configs and it *does* support usb-ide boot up to be first priority. Anyway, since testing it would be really time consuming (to try to dual boot, and if failed, roll back everything) i want to ask your opinions, do you think is that even possible?

Dual Boot Boot Problem After Resizing Win 7

Boot problem on dual boot after resizing windows 7 (32bit) switched from drive w: to drive g: i have a dual boot system that boots into win 7 (64) (c:drive) or win 7 (32) (w:drive). I needed to increase the size of win7 (64) drive and in order to do so i needed to move the win 7 (32) partition. Now i can still boot into win 7 (64) with no problem but when i boot into win 7 (32) it windows states that it is not a genuine copy and it is actually on drive "g:"! Anyway to change it back to "w:" because i believe this is the problem.

Dual Boot - Move Boot Image To Second Drive

I have a problem with two different drives both running win7, one 32 the other drive64, on a dual boot system. I want to pull the win32 drive, but it also has my boot information for the win64 drive. When removed it will not boot. I have been working on this for 5-6 weeks. I want to remove the win7/32 and put the boot image of win7/64 on the second drive.

I booted from the win764 install dvd, and went to there pair your computer. The placethat displays the operating systems installed, none will show. I have tried bootsect from the command prompt. It seems to work, but tells me no partition on the second drive. Or on another attribute used, it can not find the path to the drive. I have tried rebuild bcd, fixmbr, etc.

Boot Takes Minutes, Will Boot In Safe Mode

When i booted up this arvo, the computer took 15 minutes to get to the log in screen. Upon clicking the profile image, i had to wait another 5 minutes of unresponsiveness for even the desktop background to display. Rebooted 3-4 times, still happened, booted in safe mode, (which is how i'm writing this) and initially thought it was msmpeng.exe that was causing me issues, so i removed mse once i finally managed to get it going in normal mode. I thought the problem was fixed when i rebooted, and i had about 4-5 minutes of normal speeds before it slowed right down and became unresponsive.

When the computer is running, the actual computer itself sounds fine (hard disk is chattering away) but when going slow and unresponsive it only makes noises every 1-2 seconds, if that makes any sense, as if it's under a really heavy load. Hard to tell because i cant open anything. Ran a system restore, didn't do anything. I need help soon! I suspect a driver issue, but i'm just speculating. Specs: windows 7 home premium 64 bit 6gig ddr3 ram i7-860 cpu ati 5770 gpu

New Sata Boot Drive Wont Boot

I have a new 2t sata drive (seagate). It took about 5 days of research to finally get my computer to see it. I used seagate's disk wizard to clone my older drive (ide). The sata drive was supposed to become the c: drive. Disk management does label it as the c drive but in "computer" it sees it as f:i disconnected my older drive and when i booted up the bios kept looking for the ide drive. Although the motherboard has sata built in, there seems to be no way to tell the bios that i want the sata drive to be the primary boot drive.

Also with the original drive disconnected i get a "ntldr not found. Press control-alt-delete to restart. "I believe mybios is the problem. I have flashed it with the newest bios i could find, (dates from 2005) but no sata adjustments in the bios. How can i make the bios know that i want the sata drive to be the primary boot drive?

Or is there a way to trick the bios into thinking that it is an ide drive? As it is, the computer is recognizing the sata drive as a scsi drive. I read somewhere that this is not a problem. In summary, i want my system to boot from the sata drive. I would like to reformat the original drive.

Boot Problem - No Boot Device Found

Each time i start up the system the boot file cannot be found. I select the "repair start up" option and it completes it successfully with following detail: root cause found: the partition table does not have a valid system partition. Repair action: partition table repair.completion successfully. After this the system will start up. As mentioned, i have to do this at every start up, so i'm wondering why this partition table disappears when i shut down the desktop. I should mention that this problem started at the time i downloaded and installed the true image backup software.

The installation could not complete and one possible solution to the problem was to stop the antivirus program. At that moment i noticed that the avast antivirus was hanging and i was not able to kill the process. So i restarted the system, using f8 to get the safe start option so that i was able to uninstall the antivirus program. I then tried to install another antivirus application and when installation was almost finished got the message that it was unable to complete installation. I tried to install another backup solution (paragon), but also this one failed. On the other hand, i was able to install the firefox browser.
