Black Screen Safe Mode

Forgot to add: tried the "prevx 3. 0" solution. Message: would you like to reset the windows shell to correct a black screen on bootup and disable some malware infections? Answered yes. Message: prevx has reset the windows shell. Please reboot your computer for the changes to take effect. Rebooted in normal mode – starting windows then windows 7 ultimate screen. Entered password –got welcome screen. Same message: entry point not found. Clicked ok – welcome screen again then nothing – same black screen! Also, on my black screen is says safe mode in all 4 corners and build 7600.

Submitting again - hopefully without all the "junk" on the post - what am i doing wrong?

Crashes And Debugging - Black Screen After Login, Safe Mode Ok

My laptop seems to hang after the login screen, the screen either goes completely black or sometimes shows the desktop picture and an empty taskbar, but i am unable to do anything such as task manager. Leaving the system running for 10-15 minutes after trying ctrl-alt-del will bring up some error message, but i forget what it said, i'll try to get it again.

I can get into safe mode just fine, and ran the sf diagnostic tool from there, i have attached the files it created as requested. The laptop hung on me on shutdown before this issue started and after waiting for 30 minutes for it to try to shut down normally it wasn't responding so i had to power it down. I'm thinking that might've fudged something up but i'm unsure if there were any windows updates queued at the time or not. I'm really unsure what to do at this point, there aren't any system restore points, i didn't remember turning it off but i must have at some point.

Pc Stuck At Login Screen On Normal And Safe Mode

I turned my pc on in the morning and everything loads up until i get to the login screen and i can't do anything. The mouse doesn't move, the touchscreen doesn't do anything, and the same goes for the keyboard. I've tried "safe mode" and the same problem occurs. I've checked for errors and tried to start at last known good configuration and the problem is still there. I booted into windows vista and it worked like a charm. However, whenever i go into windows 7 the problem is present. If anyone could please help, i would be very thankful.

Black Screen Sleep Mode Issue After Win7 Upgrade

Since i have upgraded from vista to windows 7, i've been having problems with my computer. My main issue is that when i close my laptop (and it enters sleep mode), when i open it back up, its just a black screen. I click, and tap the power button, and nothing happens. The only way to get out is to hold in the power button. I never had this problem prior to the installation, and ive checked for viruses and everything came back clean. Is there some way to fix this/how do i revert to windows vista?

Windows 7 Freeze In Normal Mode, Safe Mode Works Fine

I am out of ideas. Three days ago my computer started freezing within a few minutes after startup. Freezes with no mouse movement and no keyboard. Must shutdown using the power button. Happens every time i start in normal mode. Safe mode works fine. I have done quite a bit of reading and tried a number of things, so far to no avail. Quite a few error codes present, here are some:

Winlog 6000
Service 7001
Distrib 10005
Service 7026
Event log 1101
Kernel 41
Browser 8032
Load perf 3011
Load perf 3012

I have tried restoring, turning off all non-microsoft services, disabling sound, updating video driver, memory test, adjusting bios per g skill tech forum. All hardware showing normal operation in device manager.

I can't find the minidump .dmp folder in c:/windows. The only location i find for .dmp files is in the watchdog folder, and there are quite a few in there. Let me know if i need to upload them.

My computer is a couple of months old and has been working flawlessly until this happened with one exception. (I have been getting occasional monitor blanking for a couple of seconds followed by a notification that the graphics driver has stopped responding and was successfully restored. )

Freezes And Works In Safe Mode Only

Acer aspire 7740-6656 laptop less than 6 mos old windows 7 home premium 64 bit intel core i5-430m processor w/4 gb ddr3 1066 sd ram, & hd on-board graphics problem: currently only run windows in safe mode:when run in normal mode windows runs for 5 min, then freezes which prevents anything from working - keyboard, touchpad, even the screen freezes. For instance if windows is in the process of upgrading as it was today the install window freezes. All that can be done is to power off machine and reboot into safe mode - note: safe mode networking does not work either.

Have tried system restore in safe mode with success of taking system back but it does not resolve the problem. Acer ts is no help, they are useless and all windows diagnostics show no hardware or software issues when run in safe mode. Have done several re-installs of the os, drivers, etc. From the hidden partition on the hard drive with no resolution and there are no error messages generated when the system locks up.

Unable To Boot Even In Safe Mode

I have windows xp home edition. My pc was working ok last night although running extremely slow. Tried to start today but it gave me the following message: "a problem has been detected and window has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmenting, backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, check for any updated drivers. Run chkdsk /f to check hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer. If you need to use safe mode, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

Can't Get To Safe Mode - Repair Loop

I have a win 7 64 bit pc that's i'm having an odd issue with. The system will boot and load windows normally, but i can't get to safe mode. When i hit f8, i get the options for safe mode and repair, etc. , But if i try safe mode it loads some stuff, then just stops and a get a black screen with "safe mode" in all 4 corners, a mouse, but nothing else. When i hit "repair" it gets stuck in a repair loop. I've read the tutorial on how to get out of that loop, but was wondering if that's what i should try or if there's some other problem. I'll need to ask a question later about why i need to get to "safe mode" but for now, anyone help on this issue?

Win 7 Only Running Programs In Safe Mode

I got my computer about a week ago. Things seemed to work fine the first start-up, and then i had to restart in order to install some updates. After the restart (which took somewhere around 4 hours) i found that several programs will not open, i.e. Internet explorer, media player, norton antivirus. I attempt to open them, the 'loading' icon appears next to the cursor, and then nothing happens. All of these programs came pre-installed, as this is a new computer.

However, these programs do run in safe mode. Prior to the restart, i had installed network magic 5. 1 and attempted to install webroot antivirus. I have since uninstalled these programs, but the problem continues. I have made no other changes to the computer. I've also tried backing up the computer but this has not worked either. I'm afraid i know very little about computers and have no idea what i should do. Any advice would be very welcome.

Flash Drive Only Works In Safe Mode

I have an 8gb pny flash drive that works in windows vista and the safe mode in windows 7. It will not work in the full windows 7 mode. Ll the other flash drives that i have work fine in windows 7 full mode. When i boot the drive up in full windows, the system takes a long time to id the device. Then if it does id it, it shows that the disk is full. In the disk management process the flash drive as shown with "no media". The drivers are all shown as identical for all my flash drives and they work fine, this one won't work. I have updated the chip set and bios of the motherboard (gigabyte ga-ma785gm-us2h) with the latest drivers and updates.

Activate Administrator Account In Safe Mode

How to activate administrator account in safe mode? I have two accounts "user1" ("user" level and i know this password) and "admin1" ("admin" level)accounts. Built-in administrator account has a password (i know this password) but it's not active. I changed my admin1 password and now i can't remember it. I have tried to use built-in administrator account by "safe mode" but it doesn't shows up in the list of users (to log in safe mode)? I logged in as a user1 account with cmd prompt. I typed "net user administrator /active:yes" but os says "system error 5 has occurred. Access is denied". How i can use built-in administrator account (since i know that password) when it's not activated?

Win 7 Wont Start, Even In Safe Mode

When i went to turn on my gateway laptop this morning, it wouldn't start up. I have windows 7, and have been running on it fine for about four months. When i turn the computer on, it shows the "windows is starting" screen, but then it goes to a black screen with just the cursor, sits there for a few minutes, then restarts again. Then i tried running in safe mode (going to the boot menu, selecting "safe mode") and ran into the same problem: it would go to a black screen with the cursor, hold there, then restart again. Is this a virus? Is there any way for me to get to system restore from the boot menu? I can still access the bios set-up, but i don't know what i can do from there to help.

Win 7 Is Reverting To A Safe Mode State

Im using windows 7 home premium 64-bit. I have been using it for over a month, and when i switched my computer on 3 days ago, all my setting had gone and replaced by windows 7 basic safe mode type settings. No sound, no virus program (norton 360 4. 0) , no internet settings, there was no system restore information so i couldn't restore, i installed malewarebytes and did a scan and found nothing, so i then re set all my settings and re installed ie, my virus programm, and all other basic settings and programs . Everything worked fine for the rest of the day with a few restars etc then the next day i turned it on and i was back to basic with nothing installed :-(only thing i can think of is possible norton conflict as this was only installed a few days prior to problems? Please help i've no idea why this is happening

Cannot Boot In Safe Mode Or Command Prompt

Not sure what the problem is but every mode i try booting in gets a black screen and the brightness of the screen is dimmer however i do get a mouse pointer that i can move around freely. I have an assumption that its a video error and regucure probably messed something up while i was trying to repair broken registry. Currently in kuwait by the way and both safe mode and command prompt is the same way the only thing i seem to be able to use is the f2 setup screen which does not seem to help at all either resetted the settings to default but no progress. Wish i could find a way to fix this without taking cash from my pocket or sending it to a place to reset it to factory settings.

Pc Only Starts Up In Safe Mode After Running Scan Disk

I was running scan disk to attempt to speed up my son's computer. I also got rid of some files that he had on it. The files were for his old apple ipod and he doesn't use it anymore. So i figured it couldn't hurt anything. The file were "safari", "bonjour", and some other apple files. I also removed a program for my old samsung camera. I tried to do a system restore from before i removed these programs/drivers. But that didn't work even though it said the restore was successful. I am at a lose of what to do and school is just starting. I hope he don't need it soon. Can anyone help? Thank you for you time and any help you may be able to give.

Netbook Cannot Start - Safe Mode Stops At Classpnp.sys

My msi u130 windows 7 starter does not start, merely gets to the loading screen (where you see the green flash going above the words microsoft corporation). Launch startup repair shows a white bar and the message windows is loading files before going to the loading screen. Launching os recovery does the same as above. Using safe mode hangs at 'classpnp.sys'. A variety of other safe mode options stop at 'classpnp.sys'.

I downloaded the windows 7 recovery disk iso and put it on a usb. After some problem with "ntldr is missing press ctrl alt del to restart" downloaded bootsect.exe, used that, then got a message windows is loading files and a white loading which, which, when complete, put me back tot he normal windows loading screen, zero other activity. Have tried to boot to a linux system off a usb to replace the classpnp.sys file with one i found on this xp machine, but can't get linux to start off the usb. So any ideas? With my main laptop with my wife i desperately need this netbook working, not least because it has office 2007 on it.

Black Screen And Nothing Else

I have just attempted to install windows 7 home premium on my wife’s laptop, this is a fujitsu siemans amilo pro i did all the checks as advised by microsoft i went to the fujitsu siemans site and checked that i had the latest drivers before the install. I have backed everything up to a separate hard drive.

I then did the install from the dvd using the 32 bit disc. Everything went very well up to the last reboot i’d guess now i can only get a black screen on normal boot up, or if i say ok to load from dvd it wants to re install the whole lot again, or i can get into the safe mode.

Black Screen Before Login

Computer was running fine until today anyways, i started up a game to play this morning and the video card driver started bugging out - it would crash and recover literally every 5 seconds. I assumed that the intel graphics update that i installed 3 days ago might have been the culprit, so i did a system restore back to the date before it was installed.

However, after the login i was presented with a black screen with simply the cursor - task manager worked, explorer.exe was apparently running but i still had a black screen :/ (although only a tenth of the usual system processes were working) i restarted the computer but now i got the black screen before login, after the windows logo shows up and does the twirly thingy o. O running in safe mode has the same result.

I'm thinking it has something to do with the video card driver, but seeing that i can't get windows to startup all the way i've no idea what to do. Tried putting in a windows 7 os disc in to reinstall but the computer doesn't detect it. I did install another program yesterday but i'm not sure if it's related. Info - windows 7 64 bit, hp pavilion dv6 laptop, 2. 1 ghz dual core, 4 gb ram, intel media graphics accelerator (intel gma 4500 mhd or something. )

Black Screen When Using A Monitor

I am on a windows 7 starter net book. I just got a new monitor that has a lower resolution than my old one, it no longer works. When trying to use just the monitor the screen goes black. When trying to start windows in low resolution it starts it in low resolution on the netbook screen and not the monitor screen. When it is being sent out of both the monitor and the netbook the resolution is just what my netbook is. Is there a way that i can modify the resolution of the monitor because right now it is basically useless.

Black Screen With The Pointer

I have a dell inspiron 1525 i recently upgraded to win 7 from vista. It was working fine then after updating adobe cs3 the laptop froze causing me to force a shutdown. When i booted the pc again i started normally and after the splash screen i reached a black screen with the pointer. I don't even get the option to login. All of the advanced options are getting me to the same point. Even trying to boot into safe mode just gets me to the black screen and pointer.

I do not have a win 7 disk, the upgrade was done as a download and i never received a disk in the mail. I can't get to the serai key to order another disk, luckily i can still use the pc, because i have a linux installation on the same drive. I can't use the shell fix that seems to be omnipresent on the internet, as i can't get to any of the windows screens.

Black Screen Of Death

Ok. First of all, i'll start by saying i know nothing about computers. My laptop is dell xps m1710 (gaming laptop)

On december 1st 2009 i was prompted to download a windows update. I told it to do it now, rather than postpone. After it had done its 3 of 3 steps it booted to desktop where i was greeted by a delightful black screen of death.

Not knowing what to do, i took my laptop to maplin (a store that sells parts for computers in uk). The guy in there said he would work on it for me on his day off. My dvd r/rw was damaged so he couldn't reformat since he couldn't use an external one as it wasn't showing in the bios. So i ordered a new identical one from dell. Then there was delays in it arriving because of christmas, new year, and then all the snow and ice that the uk received in early january. The dvd r/rw arrived january 14th.

He said that he installed windows vista (the operating system i was using at the time) and it was fine, and then he downloaded all the windows updates, and it got to the last one (dec 2009) and then black screen of death! He said he did this 9 times (reformatting) and then told me to go out and buy windows 7 to try and get newer drivers. So i did. Then same problem. He disabled that update and hid it so that it wouldn't ever download.

I take it back home, after not being on a computer for seventy-two long days, and install world of warcraft on it, to see if its playable. After installing i log in to play and it says "failed to find a suitable display device. " And i cant have a screen-saver "you need a video-card thats compatible with direct3d". My video-card is nvidia 9. I sent a text message to the guy from maplin.

He said its about time i contacted microsoft and see what they have to say. He said to tell them i have had a gpu driver problem that caused a black screen on vista and that i've bought windows 7 to try and get newer drivers, but its doing the same thing. Official drivers from nvidia also have the same effect. Even drivers from 2007 give the same result so he says it has to be interaction between the os and the drivers.

Black Screen At Startup

Bsod? With cursor? Updated my pc to windows 7 after vista gave me the true bsod a long time ago. I couldn't make a connection to my network's router. I restarted my pc using start->shut down when i pressed the power button, startup was same as usual. Until it got stuck on the black screen with cursor. Unable to start in safe mode. F8 will not do anything. Crtl-alt-del shuts my pc down instantly. I'd tell you the specifics of my pc if i thought that would be helpful but i've been running windows 7 since it came out with no problems. It's been over a week at least since i've downloaded anything.

Black Screen After Login

I have begun the experience issues with the black screen of death problem. I am running windows 7 pro. On a samsung nc10. I get the black screen after login and am unable to use ctrl alt del to access the task manager. I am able to log into windows normally though via one of two methods - this varies. Either bash in the password really fast when the login screen appears, or wait a few minutes on the login screen then login. I have tried the prevx's fix but this has been unsuccessful. I have just checked my display drivers with samsung but the driver i have installed is upto date.

I have checked around on the web and i think the  only option is to repair install or reinstall but i don't see why this would be relevant or how i would stop the same problem from happening again in another week. I have checked for malware and don't think there is a problem i have also checked for viruses using eset smart sec. And haven't encountered any issues. Do you have any constructive advise?  Do you know when microsoft plan on releasing a fix for this issue?

Black Screen When Loading

I am using a windows ultimate 7 64bit. It runs normal until a while ago the monitor turns into black screen, with no cursor. I could do nothing. So i decided to reboot my computer, it's runs until 2 seconds after the startup iron shows up. (At 0:32 in this video http://www.Youtube.com/watch?V=sqpr_ofcgmy). Then the screen turns into black screen again and nothing shows up.

I tried to reboot several times, with the win 7 disc in it. Still giving me black screen when loading windows. Can anyone tell me what could possibly happened? And how to solve the problem?

Black Screen After Update

I believe my computer had an automatic update on tuesday night / wednesday morning. (I heard it reboot in the middle of the night). Everything seemed fine wednesday morning the computer was running and i had video.

I tried to start my computer last night (thursday) and i had a black screen. No splash screen. No bios. Nothing. Windows does boot though, as i can hear the windows start chime.

This same exact problem happened to me once before, about two or three months ago, and i called evga for help. At the time, i had a spare video card, and the card did display with that card. I currently have a gtx 280 the older card was also an nvidia but i can't remember the model number, possibly 7950.

We used driver sweeper and reinstalled nvidia drivers. I was then able to get the computer to display with the 280.

I don't have immediate access to a spare video card to try this out, so i would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on how i can fix this problem. I am thinking of getting a small cheap hard drive and loading linux on it and seeing if i can't make it load that way. I could probably run driver sweeper on the other drive that way as well.

What is troubling to me is that i can't even get into bios when this happens. I don't understand why the video card doesn't have some bootstrap that it can in the event of a driver conflict to display the bios screen at a minimum, but that isn't your problem.

I also want to know how i can turn off these automatic updates. If don't really want windows messing with driver configurations.

Black Screen On Log In

I have tried everything i can think of and nothing works. I looked up this problem and got nothing. So what happens is that most of the time when i restart my computer in anything but safemode i get a black screen with nothing on it but the mouse can move around. I first thought that this was a simple error and that i would use the task manager to manually open explorer.exe. Low and behold it freezes on me for about 3 minutes and then it says that i cant open the ctrl + alt + delete menu. So i restart my computer again and this time everything loads normally but now explorer.exe isn't responding correctly.

I can click on anything and everything has that white "program is not responding" color to it. Affter this i'm thinking i must have installed something that is messing with the explorer so i log into the computer running safe mode and everything works, so i thought it confirmed my theory and i did a system restore to the week before this started happening just to be on the safe side. I restarted my computer again and nothing is any different. It's been like this for a few days now what should i do?
