Win 7 Freezes At Boot 0x80070002

When i use safe-mode system freezes at /classpns.sys. When i attempt to use restore point it just tries to reboot and freezes again. When i try yo use the win7 iso image did it gives me the error " the system cannot find the file specified (0x80070002).

Also what number do you need to activate a non-paying account? There are three sets of numbers on the distribution label but none of the work and i can't access the number using your prescribed method since i can't get on to my machine.

Boot Up Error 0x80070002

My girlfriends pc running xp will not open windows anymore. I tried to upgrade from service pack 2 to serv pack 3, it showed as installed fine but after restart it would not open windows anymore. It keeps coming up with an error message stating there's a problem and has error code 0x80070002 in the message, unfortunately i can't get exact wording of message as her pc is in chinese and she can't fully translate it for me, but basically saying there's a problem with windows xp serv pack 3.

I managed to get on windows in safe mode, but was not able to system restore, also tried system restore insafe mode with a command prompt option. But that still told me i cannot restore, need to be in windows normal mode to do so, again not sure on exact wording. I'm not to sure if her pc made any restore points. Anything else i can try before having to do recovery?

Boot Problem - Win 7 Freezes At Starting

So i've been running win7 on my custom comp for several months now, with no problems whatsoever. But now it freezes every time i try to boot right around the starting windows animation pops up. Sorry i don't have many details atm but i'll try to get any you need. Also startup repair and disc repair attempts have been unsuccessful and i'd rather not reformat unless needed. Do you think this could be a virus? I'm baffled. Thanks, and i'll get any more info you guys need.

Backup Error 0x80070002

I've been having problems running windows backup on my hp pavilion dv6 laptop. I bought the computer in january and have been using the windows back up with no problem up until two weeks ago. I'm backing up to a seagate 1 tb external drive. The back up will start and finish, though it says the backup isn't complete because some files were skipped. When i click to get more options it gives me the following error code: 0x80070002 and says that it can't find a video file that i downloaded a few weeks back. I have deleted the file and, to the best of my novice knowledge, don't have the file on my hard drive any more.

I never ran backup while i had the file on my drive and can't understand why that file is the one that's causing my trouble. Obviously because i have deleted the file already i can't find it to try and delete it once again. I've run a disk check on my external and my internal hard drives and both came up clean. I'm not sure what the problem is and any help would be appreciated! Also, i tried to get to live chat support via microsoft and when i tried to use my windows product id key, the microsoft support page told me that my id was invalid. This computer came installed with windows 7, is registered and activated, yet for some reason it's telling me that my id is invalid.

0x80070002 Error During Backup

While performing a backup from my c: drive to my d: drive i get a message: check your backup: the last backup did not complete successfully. Then i pressed the options button at lower right corner of window which then states: the system cannot find the file specified. I pressed details to reveal the error code: 0x80070002 the system image started at @57% completion through 77%. At this point, the progress bar went from 77 to 97% then produced backup did not complete successfully.

Backup Error Code 0x80070002

I recently upgraded to windows 7 home premium 64-bit from vista home premium 64-bit, secured an external hard drive and have made several attempts at the windows recommended backup of files and system image to only have backup repeatedly fail with the message "the system cannot find the file specified" with details indicating error code 0x80070002. Nothing has been saved to my external hard drive. Similar questions appear to be vista specific. I am looking for a fix to a windows 7 problem.

Dual Boot Boot Problem After Resizing Win 7

Boot problem on dual boot after resizing windows 7 (32bit) switched from drive w: to drive g: i have a dual boot system that boots into win 7 (64) (c:drive) or win 7 (32) (w:drive). I needed to increase the size of win7 (64) drive and in order to do so i needed to move the win 7 (32) partition. Now i can still boot into win 7 (64) with no problem but when i boot into win 7 (32) it windows states that it is not a genuine copy and it is actually on drive "g:"! Anyway to change it back to "w:" because i believe this is the problem.

Dual Boot - Move Boot Image To Second Drive

I have a problem with two different drives both running win7, one 32 the other drive64, on a dual boot system. I want to pull the win32 drive, but it also has my boot information for the win64 drive. When removed it will not boot. I have been working on this for 5-6 weeks. I want to remove the win7/32 and put the boot image of win7/64 on the second drive.

I booted from the win764 install dvd, and went to there pair your computer. The placethat displays the operating systems installed, none will show. I have tried bootsect from the command prompt. It seems to work, but tells me no partition on the second drive. Or on another attribute used, it can not find the path to the drive. I have tried rebuild bcd, fixmbr, etc.

Boot Takes Minutes, Will Boot In Safe Mode

When i booted up this arvo, the computer took 15 minutes to get to the log in screen. Upon clicking the profile image, i had to wait another 5 minutes of unresponsiveness for even the desktop background to display. Rebooted 3-4 times, still happened, booted in safe mode, (which is how i'm writing this) and initially thought it was msmpeng.exe that was causing me issues, so i removed mse once i finally managed to get it going in normal mode. I thought the problem was fixed when i rebooted, and i had about 4-5 minutes of normal speeds before it slowed right down and became unresponsive.

When the computer is running, the actual computer itself sounds fine (hard disk is chattering away) but when going slow and unresponsive it only makes noises every 1-2 seconds, if that makes any sense, as if it's under a really heavy load. Hard to tell because i cant open anything. Ran a system restore, didn't do anything. I need help soon! I suspect a driver issue, but i'm just speculating. Specs: windows 7 home premium 64 bit 6gig ddr3 ram i7-860 cpu ati 5770 gpu

Dual Boot - 1 Xp And 3 Win 7 Boot Choices

I've installed win 7 on my d drive, with win xp still on c, with the idea of having a dual boot system. Due to installation problems, i now show the xp boot choice, and 3 win 7 boot choices, with only the most recent valid. How do i purge the b. Boot.ini doesn't appear to be relevant. Win 7 utility boot rewriter program to re-point boot to ntldr will wipe out all pointers to win 7 for booting, but comes back with an extra win 7 pointer, the next time i load win 7.

New Sata Boot Drive Wont Boot

I have a new 2t sata drive (seagate). It took about 5 days of research to finally get my computer to see it. I used seagate's disk wizard to clone my older drive (ide). The sata drive was supposed to become the c: drive. Disk management does label it as the c drive but in "computer" it sees it as f:i disconnected my older drive and when i booted up the bios kept looking for the ide drive. Although the motherboard has sata built in, there seems to be no way to tell the bios that i want the sata drive to be the primary boot drive.

Also with the original drive disconnected i get a "ntldr not found. Press control-alt-delete to restart. "I believe mybios is the problem. I have flashed it with the newest bios i could find, (dates from 2005) but no sata adjustments in the bios. How can i make the bios know that i want the sata drive to be the primary boot drive?

Or is there a way to trick the bios into thinking that it is an ide drive? As it is, the computer is recognizing the sata drive as a scsi drive. I read somewhere that this is not a problem. In summary, i want my system to boot from the sata drive. I would like to reformat the original drive.

Boot Problem - No Boot Device Found

Each time i start up the system the boot file cannot be found. I select the "repair start up" option and it completes it successfully with following detail: root cause found: the partition table does not have a valid system partition. Repair action: partition table repair.completion successfully. After this the system will start up. As mentioned, i have to do this at every start up, so i'm wondering why this partition table disappears when i shut down the desktop. I should mention that this problem started at the time i downloaded and installed the true image backup software.

The installation could not complete and one possible solution to the problem was to stop the antivirus program. At that moment i noticed that the avast antivirus was hanging and i was not able to kill the process. So i restarted the system, using f8 to get the safe start option so that i was able to uninstall the antivirus program. I then tried to install another antivirus application and when installation was almost finished got the message that it was unable to complete installation. I tried to install another backup solution (paragon), but also this one failed. On the other hand, i was able to install the firefox browser.

Dual Boot - Can't See Win 7 Drive After Removing Other Boot Drive

My mobo (msi p7n diamond 780i sli / 570i sli) has a sata raid controller providing 6 sata interfaces
These are organized thus.

Sata 1 - [partition 1 - windows xp] [partition 2 - windows 7 beta (64bit)]
Sata 2 - ocz vertex - windows 7 home (64bit) retail version
Sata 3 - mirror a
Sata 4 - mirror b
Sata 5 - mirror a
Sata 6 - mirror b

The system was originally running xp on sata 1. I added a partition to sata 1 and installed windows 7 beta some weeks ago. The system dual booted to xp or win 7 beta fine. I then added the ocz vertex drive and installed the win 7 retail version, and i am able to dual boot to all three systems just fine.

However - i really want to do away with the xp and win 7 beta partitions and just run with the ocz drive. However if i disconnect the drive from sata 1 the system will not boot up. Can't find ntldr or bootmgr or something similar. I have changed the boot sequence in the bios to point at just the ocz drive - but it just won't boot from it.

Win 7 Freezes

I have a dell inspiron 530 that i got about 1. 5 yrs ago - intel dual core2. 33 ghz/3 gb memory/500 gb hard drive/128mb nvidia video card originally with vista installed. I purchased an upgrade to win 7. It installed fine but now the computer after a few minutes use freezes to the point where i need to totally power down the system - ctl-alt-del has no response. I have been able to make this go away by having all power saving measures wide open to always on. It even froze when the only power saving measure was to turn the monitor off.

I have checked the dell site - have the latest bios/drivers from there and also updated to the latest nvidia drivers and still it freezes. Any suggestions? I'd preferably like to utilize the power saving features and they worked just fine under vista, its just the upgrade to win 7 that has caused it to freeze. Also, nothing found in the event viewer when it locks up.

I left it on that screen once for 2 days and nothing happened. I have
Also noticed that most of my programs / games no longer work with the exception of programs like pokerstars. I am obviously not great with computers but any help would be great. I use windows vista: home premium 32b operating system.

Install Freezes

I am running windows 7 ultimate and trying to install a program that they say is compatible with it. It is a scuba dive log program from aeris dive. When i start the setup file it opens install shield & goes through the initial parts, identifying the system, where the files will load etc but when it gets to the screen where it starts setup it just freezes.

I have tried to run it as administrator (i have admin rights) but no luck. I tried to run microsoft installer cleanup utility but that too locks up. I shut off all of my virus and spyware blocking tools and no effect. The file is ok as i can install it on another pc.

Briefcase Freezes

I used briefcase in xp pro as a form of quick daily backup tool with an encrypted removable usb drive. It worked well.

I finally got the security issues solved to allow the usb drive to work with users, however briefcase is not functioning properly.

In windows 7, the drive takes forever to load, then when i ask to "update all" it either gives an error message about insufficient memory ( i have 4gb on board and at the time of failure, it's less then 30% full), or it freezes up completely and i need task manager to shut it down.

I tried deleting the briefcase and creating a new one and that doesn't help.

Any suggestions?

Momentarily Freezes

This is a very vague problem i am having here, but bear with me, ill try to provide as many details as i can i'll start off with the basics. I am on an acer aspire 5517 laptop running windows 7 home premium 64 bit with 4 gigs of ram and an amd athlon l310 dual core proc at 1. 2 ghz. Recently, my computer started to have this problem.

Every so often, the computer will just hang up, but only for a second or two, at longest 3 seconds. When these freezes occur and i happen to be monitoring resource usage, when the freeze is over, i will note that cpu usage is at 100 percent with the 'system' task using 99 percent.

This is mostly just a minor annoyance as when i am working, the mouse will momentarily freeze up as well as whatever i was working on. This is most noticeable when i am watching video, as the video will freeze. Sometimes however, the audio will continue playing and when the freeze stops, i will see all the frames in between when it freeze and where it currently is fly by very quickly.

However, the audio will sometimes stop as well. Another example is when i am typing and one of these freezes will happen. The screen will stop updating, but if i keep typing, all the text will appear when the freeze stops. As far as i have noticed, this problem is not local to any one specific program, it is a problem with windows itself i believe, but i'll leave that judgment to the professionals.

Freezes On Startup

I have a computer that is one day old and will not start up (windows 7 home premium 64 bit). It will freeze at "windows starting. " It will freeze under safe mode at the classpnp.sys file. I have attempted to boot from a recovery dvd and it will not not not boot from it and freeze, and the bios settings are set to boot from the optical drive 1st. It will freeze when i try to enter the repair console.

I am out of ideas as to what to do, and i can find no answers online.

The comlete story is as follows: i was installing various programs fine (office, symantec, turbotax 04-09, etc). After installing adobe photoshop, the os "freaked out. "  I have no other way to describe it. Various components of the screen starting flickering (not the entire screen, but certain parts of programs). The touchpad became unresponsive, jerky, and seemed to click on its own. The computer began a shutdown sequence - because updates had queued, those began installing once the os logged off. Upon power on, i made it to the welcome screen. Each time, the touchpad was unresponsive, and the keyboard seemed to have its own inputs, because it would freeze and lock me out of the system.

After a few cold shutdowns, the touchpad and keyboard stopped acting weird (i know this sounds crazy, but i swear its true), and i was able to log in. I created the recovery dvds using the vaio console, uninstalled photoshop, and did a system restore to before the photoshop installation. The computer shut down, but has never been able to completely boot into the windows welcome screen.

Win 7 Freezes For 10 Second

I installed windows 7 on a new hard drive. Immediately i started getting short system hangs. The drive light comes on steadily and the freezes last for about 10 seconds. During that time my mouse will still move although clicking anywhere either does nothing or brings up the 'not responding' box. These freezes can occur every 2 minutes or not for an hour or more. It doesn't matter if i am in firefox surfing, listening to music, or just sitting with the desktop displayed and doing nothing.

I have an intel e6700 with 4gbram what have i checked:i have updated my drivers. (Sb xfi, ati5850)i have tried a clean boot but the problem still persists. I have checked online for solutions. I uninstalled my bit defender (problem still existed so reinstalled)i stopped all unnecessary services, windows media player, indexing, etc. There are no errors shown in the logs when this occurs. If this problem can't be solved, i want my money back and will happily return to vista 64 which i did not have any problems with.

Freezes On Networking

I have done a clean install of win 7, 32 bit, on my inspiron 9300. I have only 2 m of memory. Everything works great except the networking. When running on cable or wireless, the system will freeze and need a reboot. This can happen in 5 or 10 minutes or 1 or 2 hours. When i run the machine in safe mode with networking, i have no problem. Also, when i connect to the internet via my motorola droid, i have no problem.

I've tried using a wireless usb. While the system runs longer, i will still get a freeze. If i pull out the usb while using the machine and plug it in and out as needed to connect to the network or internet, i do ok.

Here is information from the event viewer after a freeze:

Critical 4/5/2010 8:01:11 am  kernel-power 41 (63) - the system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Freezes Up After Idle

I've had 7 for a month or so, and it just started doing this a couple days ago. Whenever i leave the computer for a while it freezes. I thought it had something to do with sleep mode, so i followed the advice on this forum and disabled sleep mode, but it still does it.

So details. When i leave the computer and come back, i will click on something (firefox, for example), and whatever program i click goes to "not responding". Then i try to ctrl alt delete out of it, but it won't bring anything up. I can still move the mouse, but nothing responds when i click. Except the start button, which responds but nothing under it does (ie, i can click start, but can't shut down from the start menu). Any ideas?

Freezes After Waking Up

I would allow my computer to go to sleep overnight and after waking up, it would freeze within the first 3 minutes. It would appear to be normal after waking up and i would be about to search the internet, use my instant messaging, etc. And suddenly the mouse and keyboard would stop working. The hdd light would be on but no movements. I had it on for 30 minutes trying to fix the problem and it wouldn't work.

Had to turn off the computer to get it to restart. The boot screen would read, resuming windows and after start up i would get an alert that the certain programs were corrupt and i needed to run chkdsk and it wouldn't allow me to use my browser or start my antivirus.

Once i restarted and ran chkdsk, everything works fine. I just don't know why it is happening repeatedly and is there a fix?

Ie8 Freezes In Taskbar

When i start ie8 the icon opens in the bottom taskbar, but the window does not open. If i click with the left mouse on the icon that opened on the bottom task-bar the window still does not open. There is no error message. The right mouse click does not bring anything neither. When i want to close it with the task manager it tells me "program does not react* a check with ms fix it does not show any mistakes. I have reinstalled and installed ie8 several times with no improvement. I tried to reinstall ie7 but with no success.

Even i have thoroughly taken of ie8 with uninstaller it tells me ie7 can not be installed because there is a newer version installed. I'm using xp professional with service pack 3. The only browser working at the moment is safari. I tried opera which worked at the begin but after a few times opening and closing the same problem as with ie8 appeared.
