Event Files Showing Up On Hard Drive

Occasionally, a file with the extension ". Event" will show up on my hard drive. Sometimes, it only shows up in one directory, sometimes it shows up in every directory on my hard drive. I can't figure out which piece of software is creating these files, or what they're used for -they are 0 bytes, containing absolutely nothing. Right now i'm doing a periodic search and destroy for these files, but i'd really like to know what is creating them, and how to stop them from being created. Does anyone have any idea what these files are, or what application is creating them?

Hard Drive Smart Event / Failure

I recently upgraded from vista home premium (shipped with dell computer in 2007) to windows 7 ultimate. Whole upgrade process went fine, except that when i restarted, i continue to receive an error from the intel matrix storage console that my hard drive is reporting a smart event and may soon fail. I am also receiving a windows dialog box "hard disk error". I ran a check disk on it said windows removed multiple (over 10) bad clusters.

Then i ran an sfc scannow command and got no integrity violations. My concern is that i really don't think this is a bad drive. Everything was just fine before the windows 7 upgrade. I went under device mgr and checked to make sure that the intel matrix storage console had a current driver, it is listed as version 8. 6. 2. 1012. I clicked "update driver" and it said it was current. I have a samsung sp2504c hard-drive. At this point i don't know how to proceed.

Search For Files On External Hard Drive

I had created a manual backup files on my external hard drive by creating a folder with my computer name and moving the files to that folder. Yesterday i decided to create a backup of my computer using the windows backup feature so it created a backup folder.

On my external hard drive using the name of my computer. I'm guessing the backup software merged with the preexisting folder since they both were named the same thing. Now the folder that i manually backed up my files to is no longer accessible. I can't search for files or use the explorer window to look for files in it. It is treated as a backup folder. Although i have no way of accessing my files, i know that they were not deleted on my external hard drive because the backup of my pc was 50gb large.

My computer says that the external hard drive has 771gb of free space meaning the windows backup software did not overwrite the preexisting folder. My manual backup is still taking up space on the external hard drive. It just changed the folder so i cannot look through it or search for files. How do i change this folder so i can get to my old files?

External Hard Drive Files Transfer Problem

I just got a new pc with windows 7. Our old pc had windows xp. I have a 20gb external hard drive on which i keep all of our music and photos. Never had a problem with it on old pc. I have the bible, new testament on cd. I ripped using windows media player so i could transfer to my music player but all of it will not fit on my player at one time. I planned to transfer it all to my external drive so i would not have to rip cds each time i wanted to change out what i was listening to on my player.

When i hook up the external drive directly to a usb port on the pc, i get the message that installation of driver has failed and the device cannot be read. (Weird!) However, when i hook up the external drive through the usb hub, i can view everything within the external drive no problem whatsoever. I can even view all of my photos. From there, i open up the music file from the start menu and drag one of the bible files over to a new folder within the external drive.

After a minuet or so, the light on my external drive will turn from green to red and i get the message: this is no longer located in j:new christian version (this is the new folder within the external drive that i am attempting to transfer to) verify the item's location and try again

Of course the item is not located in j drive. I am trying to send that item there to begin with! I have tried this many, many times and was successful with only one bible file, picked at random. Why it was accepted, and copied successfully, i do not know. I'd be grateful for any help with this or suggestions. I was wondering if i downloaded windows media player 11 (which i think is what i had on old pc) & ripped the cds that way, if that might work. Or would it even be worth the hassle?

Xp Mode - Issue Accessing Hard Drive With Files

So i've had windows 7 for awhile now. This was not a problem before. My harddrive recently crashed so i got a new c drive and re-installed windows 7 all is well except my windows xp mode. Before when i run xp mode i can see both my c and e (slave drive) and access all my files. Now i open windows xp mode and its has access to nothing. This was not an issue before. I can install programs via usb, but i need to access files from my slave drive to use within windows xp mode. So having the programs are kinda pointless cause i can't do anything in them. I have no clue why this is an issue it worked perfectly fine before.

Upgrading Existing Hard Drive To Ssd Hard Drive

I have recently purchased a laptop with one hard drive slot. I want to change the existing hard drive slot to a ssd. My laptop came with windows 7 pro pre-installed (no disk supplied). When i purchased the machine i created the windows recovery disk.

I would like to know if the upgrade is as simple as:

1) removing the current 500g hard drive
2) installing the new new ssd
3) running the recovery disks to re-install my copy of windows 7 pro or am i missing something?

Upgrade On New Hard Drive Because Of Failed Hard Drive

Anyway to upgrade on a new hard drive because of a failed hard drive with vista on it? I had a pc that came with a pre installed version of vista home 32 bit, however my hard drive has just totally failed, is there anyway that i'll be able to just get the upgrade version and install it on my new hard drive, or as i beleive to be the case, will i have to get the full version of windows 7. My pc didn't come with any sort of vista install disc.

As i said im fairly certain i know the answer and its that i get a new hard drive and will have to get the full version of 7 but just wanted to check with people who know far more on the subject than i do.

Files Send To Dvd-rw Drive On Network Results In Deleted Files

"send to dvd-rw drive" when the source files are on a network drive results in deleted files! Windows 7 rc 7100. Have a mapped drive to another computer. I opened the folder, right clicked on a group of .doc files. I choose "send to dvd-rw drive". Responded to the prompt of "use like usb drive" or use in a cd/dvd player by choosing the 2nd choice. Then was faced with a prompt that filename.doc is no longer in this location cancel/retry/skip. All the files were gone! Not in recycle bin of either computer.

Can't Eject Usb Hard Drive, Drive Always In Use

I have a 500gb maxtor onetouch 4 external usb backup drive that is set to do weekly backups with windows backup. This works great except that everything and their grandmother wants to spin the hard drive up whenever possible. This is not an ideal situation: with exception to backup, this drive is not used for anything. So i had a great idea, i'll keep the drive unmounted until i need to backup which then a newly created scheduled task would mount, backup and unmount when done! Well, turns out, windows doesn't think so. And this makes me a sad panda.

Issue Copying Files Between Hard Disks

I am experiencing issues copying files between hard drives on my computer. I've been having this problem on windows 7, and windows vista, but have never encountered it on xp. It seems there are several similar threads, but i think i've noticed a few quirks in my own experience. I have several drives, between 500 gb ~ 1 tb. Problems arise when i try to copy a folder with a large number of files (typically pictures, folders around 4gb in size).initially, the transfer rate would be at the hd's burst speed, somewhere between 90mb to 150mb.

Speed would decrease to around 30mb, or even lower. The transfer eventually becomes so slow that the operation would take hours to finish. If i try to cancel, it would take minutes to do so. The computer would perform sluggishly for a long period afterward, with intermittent lag until i reboot the system. This occurs regardless of the source and destination drives. On certain samsung drives, this problem actually lead to data corruption on both the source and destination drives, and i/o error messages. Chkdsk will run at startup, attempt to fix the problem, but the data would be lost or the drive unreadable. I've since tossed the samsung drives for wd, have not had i/o errors, but the file copying problem persists. I've also disabled chkdsk at startup for all drives. My hardware drivers and bios are up to date.computer is free of viruses and malware.

I have no other troubles with windows 7. Curiously, if i compress my folders/files to a single rar file, i do not have problems copying them (transfer rate stays steady at 30~50mb). This leads me to believe that this is not a hardware issue, but a problem with explorer, and that it pertains specifically with the number of files being transferred rather than size. (But unpacking those files also lead to poor performance sometimes. )Is this a known issue that will be fixed?  I really like win7, but because i work with large number of files and numerous backups all the time, stability during file copying is a must. I may have to revert to xp, or use another os entirely.

Hard Drive Not Available

I did an upgrade from vista to windows 7 home premium. I did a clean install, not an upgrade. I had 2 hard drives on the pc. At the start of the process, it asked it i wanted to partition drives. I responded yes and did the reboot from the disk. Each hard drive had 2 partitions under vista. I wanted to move to 1 partition under windows 7. It allowed me to delete the virtual drives and proceeded with the install. Everything when fine from there without any errors.

When i check my computer, only 1 of the drives is available. I went to device manager and the controller for the 2nd drive is there. It says it is working properly. I tried updating the driver and it said i had the latest driver. I checked the tab that shows drive statistics and it is blank. At the bottom there is a populate button. I clicked it and it displays the statistics for the drive correctly. It doesn't make it available. If i exit and come back in the statistics are blank again. I have done reboots and it is still not available under my computer. How do i get windows 7 to see this drive?

Event Id 41 Task 63 Error

Since installing win7, home premium, 64bit, on a computer (6 days ago) i have been getting this error daily.computer initially used with win xp with no issues-this problem occurred after upgrading memory from 4 gb to 8 gb and installing win7 clean install. Memory passed memory test so i don't think the memory addition is the problem. Early instances involved bsod while running but after running system file checker which found and corrected errors i have not seen the bsod. Now the problem shows up on a cold start after what appeared to be a normal shut down.

Hard Drive Score

I had 2 older hard drives running at 7200rpm in sata raid 0 mode and installed win7 64bit. Score was 5. 9. So i went and bought 2 new hard drives, still seagate but with 32mb cache, 500gb. Firstly i installed win7 on 1 drive and still have a score of 5. 9. Then i installed it on both new hard drives using raid 0 mode again and the score was still 5. 9. How do we get a higher score with this thing? All else is above 7 on my system but just hd's are lacking. What can i do?

Partition Hard Drive

I got a new pc with windows 7 64-bit. The c drive has 578 gb of free space. I want to partition it so the c drive has about 100gb, and then my data drive will have 478gb. When i use the shrink volume utility in computer management, the most i am able to shrink the c drive is about 302gb. That will put the c drive at 276 gb, but i would like to get it down to around 100gb. Do i need to buy some partition software to do this or is there another way to try this in windows.

Corrupted Hard Drive

I replaced my hard drive and then tried using the windows 7 upgrade for full installation and it seemed to take, but it didn't give me a chance to put the product key in and now it's asking for the product key(which i tried) and saying that i have 24 hours to put a full version product key in or i can't use my windows. What can i do? Please let me know soon.

Replacing Hard Drive

I installed windows 7 ultimate full retail version a few months ago from vista and haven't had any issues with it and am glad i purchased 7. However recently i'm starting to think my hard drive might be on its way out, its very noisy and i've had a couple of lock ups.

Ideally i'd like to buy a new (better) hard drive and start again with a fresh install but i don't know if im aloud to do that. Will it allow me to install windows 7 on another hard drive when all the other parts are the same? Sorry for the basic question but obviously i want to make sure whats what before going ahead, or before my hard drive dies lol.

Cannot Access Hard Drive

I installed windows 7 dual-boot with vista ult 64-bit. Not a problem, . Both versions boot and run. However i have had installed 6 sata drives. Vista recognizes and access's all 6 in explorer and device manager. Windows 7 however recognizes all 6 in device manager but will only display 5 in the computer drive explorer view. There is no method to access the (actually 5th sata) drive. It cannot be accessed by any program i've tried so far. (Xp also recognized and accessed all 6 drives when i used it. )

I have a asus rampage formula motherboard, 4 wd 320 hd drives, 1 corsair sshd 6th in sata chain (windows 7 installed on it)
750 wd hd the 5th sata which is not accessible.

8 meg corsair ram 1000 watt ps asus 4850 video card. Running in non raid mode for the moment. I am not impressed with 7 especially since being screwed by the lack of the ult upgrade option
