Ie8, Office, Live Takes Several Minutes To Start

I'm running windows 7 64-bit with 12gb of ram on an i7 quad core. Whenever i start ie8 32-bit it takes several minutes before it will display a web page, most of that time it says waiting for about:blank in the status bar. I've searched the web and none of the solutions i've found work. I've noticed that office communicator and live meeting both take upwards of 5 to 6 minutes to start. I also use firefox and it starts on the same web pages as ie8 but only takes a second or two.

Since most of my work is using tools like share-point actually using firefox as my primary browser is not an option since it is not compatible with sharepoint. I've disabled all antivirus and even changed antivirus applications at one point so i don't think antivirus is an issue.

Boot Takes Minutes, Will Boot In Safe Mode

When i booted up this arvo, the computer took 15 minutes to get to the log in screen. Upon clicking the profile image, i had to wait another 5 minutes of unresponsiveness for even the desktop background to display. Rebooted 3-4 times, still happened, booted in safe mode, (which is how i'm writing this) and initially thought it was msmpeng.exe that was causing me issues, so i removed mse once i finally managed to get it going in normal mode. I thought the problem was fixed when i rebooted, and i had about 4-5 minutes of normal speeds before it slowed right down and became unresponsive.

When the computer is running, the actual computer itself sounds fine (hard disk is chattering away) but when going slow and unresponsive it only makes noises every 1-2 seconds, if that makes any sense, as if it's under a really heavy load. Hard to tell because i cant open anything. Ran a system restore, didn't do anything. I need help soon! I suspect a driver issue, but i'm just speculating. Specs: windows 7 home premium 64 bit 6gig ddr3 ram i7-860 cpu ati 5770 gpu

Usb Webcam Take 10 Minutes To Start

I have a 2 year old compal jfl92 laptop which i initially bought with windows vista and i recently upgraded it to windows 7. Everything works fine, except that the built-in webcam is not immediately available after turning the machine on or waking it from sleep - it takes somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes to show up. Prior to this, it is not visible in the "devices and printers" and the "usb composite device" which it calls itself in device manager is also missing. Once it does show up, it works without any problems.

I have tried uninstalling all usb controllers and rebooting to make windows reinstall the drivers for everything. If i do that, the webcam is there immediately, but on the next boot it again takes 10 minutes to show up. I have also tried installing the latest usb drivers from intel, but that didn't help either. The laptop has various other usb devices, both internal (e.g. Bluetooth) and external (a mouse) and none of them exhibits this behavior. Has anyone ever seen something like this before or know how to make it load with everything else rather than in 10 minutes?

Ie8 Will Not Start

I have installed ie8 two times and get the same experience, click on explorer to start and it does not even start, go to task manager and it says it is not responding, check process tab and there are multiple instances running of the following app dumpreg.exe, and the performance tab for cpu is at 100%. I am a dummy when it coes to these things, and everything i have read is about ie8 hanging up after it is in use, my problem is after tow installs and reinstalls it won't even open.

Ie8 Start Up Error

Recently (as in the last 7-10 days) i receive the following message after boot up when launching ie8: "your last browsing session closed unexpectedly. I am given the choice of re-opening my last session or going to my home page. This only happens the first time i launch ie8 after booting up. I have tried most of the common fixes such as reset ie8, delete browsing history, delete hashed values from registry (.microsoft/internet explorer/recovery/active) all to no avail.

I also tried to disable all ie8 add-ons. When i went through tools/internet options/programs it didn't work. When i tried starting ie8 via start/all programs/accessories/ie (no add-ons), it worked like a champ. Clearly some add-on is still running but i can't see where.

I am running windows 7 on a fujitsu life book a1130, intel duel core, 4 gb of ram.

Office 2007
Norton internet security 2010
Norton utilities 14
Adobe reader 9
Adobe air
Adobe flash
Roxio creator
Cyberlink make disk
Cyberlink power director

As i mentioned, i tried disabling all add-on's but i think i am missing something.

Any ideas?

Ie8 Won't Start / Open

So i've done a bunch of searching around and cant find anyone who has had the same problem i am having. Basically it is pretty simple. I click on any ie8 shortcut, the computer thinks for a second and then nothing. I went through the steps to disable (the ie8 "uninstall") the program and then re-enable hoping that would solve it, but nothing has changed. I am kinda at wits end because i cant download and reinstall ie8 on windows 7 and i cant get a previous version like ie7 because that isn't supported as well. 95% of what i do can be done on other browsers, but that 5% is driving me crazy. Any ideas?

Start Live Mail Without Importing Any Email

How to start windows live mail without importing any email? I have just downloaded windows live mail for the purposes of creating some screenshots for a service i am providing. I just want to run the program, without importing any of my old email out of outlook (which takes up many gb's), however windows live mail seems to insist on importing all of my old mail when i start it.

As my old mail folders are so large, windows live mail basically just freezes, and there is nothing i can do except close it using the task manager. Is there some way to start windows live mail without it insisting on importing old email?By the way, i really think windows should come with the old windows mail, which just is a far superior email product to windows live mail in my opinion.

Issue With Office 2007 Documents Opened In Ie8

Office 2007 documents opened in ie8 ask for windows user credentials three times. This issue only appears to occur with ie8 and office 2007. We have an internal website that accesses office documents in the same directory as the web page. When attempting to access the excel document from the webpage link an ie8 windows security dialog box appears asking the user to enter in their windows credentials. If the user enters their credentials they are asked two more times before the excel workbook opens. If the user just clicks cancel to the first of the windows security dialog boxes the excel workbook opens without any issues.

I've tried adding the site as a trusted site and this allows me to access the webpage without entering my user credentials, however, when accessing the excel document i am still prompted to enter my credentials. I did read somewhere the office 2007 attempts to access the network separately from ie8 when accessing network office files from ie8. I'm not sure if this is accurate or if there is a way around it.

It appears as though the credentials are not being passed to the server properly, which is what usually happens when ie8 asks three times, however, users do not get the authorization failed page after the third time as the spreadsheet opens. As i mentioned earlier this only appears to be an ie8 and office 2007 issue. Accessing the file using firefox or ie7 or accessing the file using ie8 with office 2003 installed doesn't prompt for windows security user credentials. Are there any solutions to this issue that we could implement?

Problem With Office Live Add-in 1.5

Unlike every update i have done when the office live add-in 1. 5 updated i was asked to accept terms & conditions in a window & i did. Then windows defender told me that a program change had taken place. Immediately thereafter my computer started running extremely slow, but ran. I checked for viruses with the programs i had & it was ok. Then i restored to an earlier date. After a while the computer ran normally. Needless to say i again had the office live add-in 1. 5 to update.

I tried again & again the request to accept terms. And again windows defender reported that a system change had taken place. At that point i stopped the update not wanting further problems. I'd like to know why this would happen. I am of course early to make this update & it is still in my windows update file. I run windows vista home edition.

Keep Getting Update For Office Live Add-in 1.5

Every time my computer restarts it shows there is a windows update that has been downloaded but not installed. The update is the office live add-n 1. 5. I click on the update to install it and it runs for a little while then it tells me that the update is not needed. When i check my installed programs i can see that the office live add-in is already installed. I've tried unchecking the update, but it keeps showing up anyway. How do i get it to stop showing up?

We use to be able to go online to windows update and stop updates from showing but in windows 7 it won't let me do that anymore. Also, i haven't had any updates since 6/9/10. Just this office live and a net framework client profile that didn't want to install either but that i fixed. Is there someway to figure out if i have all the updates i should have?

Compatibility Between Ms Office Project Web Access 2003 And Ie8

Compatibility between microsoft office project web access 2003 (sp3) and ie8 on windows 7. My organization will upgrade all the client desktop computer from xp (sp2) to windows 7 (64-bit) with office 2010 (32-bit) and ie8 by the end of this year. Our group is currently using project server 2003 (sp3) with sql server 2005 (sp3).

I would like to know if the current configuration of client - project professional 2003 and pwa 2003 (sp3) - will be compatible with the new windows 7 environment. In the official microsoft windows 7 compatibility site, project professional 2003 is certified as "compatible", but no information on pwa. I also concerned about pwa and ie8 compatibility. I wonder if anyone knows if pwa2003 can work with ie8 on windows7?

Pc Is Taking Long Time (10 Minutes) To Shut Down

I am having trouble working out why my laptop sometimes takes up to 10 minutes to shut down. It is an acer 5920g with a core 2 duo (t7300) and 2gb ram. It is running windows 7 home premium to which i have upgraded from vista home premium (both 32 bit). It is on a small home network but the problem still happens on moving it to a different network. The delay seems to be longer if the laptop has been switched on for longer - i.e. If the laptop has only been on for a few minutes then it shuts down very quickly but if it has been on for a few hours then it can take 10 minutes to shut down. Event viewer does not seem to be much help as even creating a custome log of all information around the time of the delay it shows nothing - here are the messages either side (nothing appears between these times:

Information 02/02/2010 22:09:14 kernel-general 12 none
Information 02/02/2010 22:00:20 kernel-general 13 none

I have run full anti-malware scans and am fairly confident nothing nasty is lurking. I've seen mention on some forums of clearing virtual memory on shutdown causing delays but windows 7 home premium does not seem to have the gpedit.exe utility that is recommended to cure this. Also i have looked in the registry and found a key labeled "clearpagefileatshutdown" which i assume would be the one to set with gpedit but this is set to 0x00000000 (0) - i'm guessing this setting means that the page file should not be cleared at shutdown - is that correct?

I have tried setting the registry key for waittokillapptimeout to both 2000 and 20000 but this seems to make no significant difference. Does anyone have any ideas of what else i can look for to try and find out what is causing the delay? Just as a final thought - while the close down screen is sitting doing nothing for the 10 minutes i have noticed some slow disc and network traffic but i can't tell what this is doing. As i said earlier there seems to be nothing in event viewer's logs - at least that i can find. I'd be really grateful for any help with this as i'm stuck for what to try next.

Occasional Freeze / System Locks Up For Several Minutes

For a good while after initially putting my system together, i would encounter one or two crashes regularly upon boot-up. Gradually, through perhaps either cleaning the system and/or installing more recent drivers that problem no longer exists. However, at about the same time the crashes ended, the system began operating relatively sluggishly. Not only do programs run slower on my new system, but the system locks up for several minutes at a time. Cpu usage and memory usage randomly and frequently maxes out, despite only running one or two programs at a time.

I have installed and ran ms security essentials, cc cleaner, and malwarebytes anti-malware and at this point, they can't tag anything for removal. I'd appreciate it if someone could recommend one or several things to do to troubleshoot my problem. There are a few things i've mulled as the root of my computer's performance issues:i have a malicious file or program that isn't being detected by software?System is not freeing up resources once they are not being used? System registry was damaged by a virus or uninstall? My 2nd internal hard drive, which was the primary hd from my last computer is adversely affecting performance?Poor graphics card?Faulty memory?

Installing Programs Takes Too Long

I have seen similar issues raised on this forum but none of the answers so far work for me. My system specs are : windows 7 64bit, 8gb ram, 2. 80ghz when i attempt to install various programs (games, audio editing, gadgets) the pc runs through the standard pop-ups, license acceptance etc in normal time right up until it attempts to actually install the program. Then it appears to stop. The pc doesn't crash, other applications keep working (freecell helps pass the time).

The install window isn't frozen (the loading 'pulse' keeps moving). Task manager shows the install program as 'running', cpu usage is 12% or thereabouts. Physical memory approx 17%. So it appears there is plenty of capacity to handle the task but no urgency. For all of the programs i have tried to install i have used normal, administrator, compatibility & safe boot install modes with no effect. Disabling virusguard and unnecessary applications / processes has no effect.

For minor applications after 8 to 10 hours the install may complete, i guess other applications might also complete too but i don't have a week to spare. Please, please don't suggest 'microsoft installer cleanup utility' - this bug occurs for several different programs and on 1st install even in safe mode. Nd please don't ask me to reinstall windows 7. You may as well suggest i buy a new pc (actually a mac is looking good right now).

Usb Takes Long Time To Eject

I upgraded to windows 7 over thanksgiving with no problems. However, recently i discovered that when i clicked on the "safely eject" icon on the taskbar to eject my usb drive, it takes over 1 min for the menu to pop up. I restarted my computer in safe mode and tried ejecting my usb, which worked fine with no lag. I don't know what happened that suddenly made ejecting so slow now. I haven't installed any new software since i upgraded, and this is definitely a recent issue. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Hard Drive, Devices Window Takes Long Time To Open

When i open the "computer" window, to see the hard drive, devices, etc. It's taking five minutes for it to load. Why is it taking so long when the drives and devices should just pop up? Click on the start icon, move over to my computer, then wait forever for it to load.

It doesn't make sense why, this system is analyzing the content for so long when i just bought tis computer. I have a mac, and i know this is different. But my dell laptop, and my wife's old computer doesn't nearly take this long. If i right click over computer, open in new window appears, and it acts as it always has. Why the unnecessary difference between the two. It should be fixed.microsoft shouldn't let this go on for long.

Usb Drive Takes Long Time When Sorting Files In Directory

I have several external usb drives on my machine. Some of the folders on those drives contain several thousand files, the default is for them to be in name order. Fine. But i quite often want to rearrange them by date, everytime i do this i get the semi-transparent green progress bar at the top of the folder but it seems to take an age to complete.

On previous versions of windows clicking on the column you wanted files sorted by made the sort almost instant. Each time i go back to the folder i have to wait all over again. I thought i had added the folders to the library etc to make searching and sorting easier. Am i doing/not doing something stupid?

Win 7 64-bit Doesn't Distinguish Between Ie8 64-bit And Ie8 32-bit

Windows 7 64bit doesn't distinguish between ie8 64 bit and ie8 32 bit when attempting to set a default browser using the control panel default programs 'associate' utility. My new windows 7 64 bit pc (luv that i7 920 intel cpu) came installed with both ie8-64 bit and ie8-32 bit (nothing more need be said regarding the absurdity of having to deal with this in the first place - i should have gone with the imac).

Anyway, ie64 bit lacks the flash player cuz adobe hasn't released a 64 bit version yet, per their website. So i can't use ie64 with xm online music stream (et al). Ie32, on the other hand, supports flash player, but won't successfully link to various embedded hypertext links, such as those embedded in an email. My initial solution was to use firefox, which served me well until an application from a local vendor will only work with internet explorer. Sigh.

I've used windows since version 2 back in the 1980s, have become stoic, and can emotionally cope with having to use 3 browsers to get the job done.

However, just for fun, my current burning question is, with two different versions of ie8 (64 bit and 32 bit) installed into windows 7, why doesn't the control panel default applications utility seem to aware of the fact that there are indeed two different versions installed? It lists firefox and internet explorer, but does not differentiate between the two flavors of ie. My goal was to set ie8 64 bit as the default browser temporarily to accommodate the vendor's application.

Fyi, by setting the default, i refer to: control panel | default programs | associate a file type or protocol with a program. Then scroll down to 'http' and click on the change program button. So in my case, firefox and only one instance of internet explorer, with no bit distinction, display as selection options.
