Since upgrading from vista to windows 7 on my toshiba laptop, i have not been able to add any printer to my computer. I get an error that says "local print spooler service is not running". I haver run the built in troubleshooter and gone in manually to turn the spooler on. Everytime i do this all printer icons stop responding and when they do finally respond, the spooler is "stopped" again. What can i do?

Can't Open Add Printer - The Local Print Spooler Service Is Not Running

"windows can't open add printer. The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine". I am running into the same problem on an emachines et1331g.initially, i wanted to print to an older dell - found the driver was not windows 7 compatible so installed my canon px100 successfully and used it for over a month with no problems.

Then i needed to move the computer to a different desk and install a driver for an epson nx415. Using "add printer", the message says "windows can't open add printer. The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine". Restarting the machine does not resolve the problem. In control panel/admin tools/services/print spooler, the spooler is set to start automatically and will sometimes show started, sometimes not.

If i start it and then go back to devices and printers, the epson will show that it is installed and ready. But if i then try to print something, it says "before you can perform printer, you must first install a printer". If i logout and return later, i will find the spooler no longer running.
I have tried the latest 64 bit drivers from epson with no success. I am running windows 7 home premium 64 bit. Any ideas?

Print Spooler Wont Start

When i try to connect a printer to my new laptop with windows 7, it wont install the driver. I've tried with several different printers in different usb-ports. I got two printers with scanners. The system allows me to install and use the scanners , but not the printers.

If i try to add a new printer a message tells me the print-spooler is not running and i need to restart the computer or the printspooler. (I use the danish version and don't know the exact message in english. ) A restart of the computer makes no difference and it is not possible to start the spooler (error 1053), no matter what way i try to do so.

Remote procedure call (rpc) is running without problems. My laptop is new and i've never had a printer connected to it. The shop where i bought the computer and windows 7 won't help me, since it is a software-problem they say. I hope someone here will!

Error - Local Printer Spooler Service Is Not Running

"local printer spooler service is not running" error; any attempt to add a local printer (usb or bluetooth) fails. I cannot add a printer (usb or bluetooth), as it always returns a printer spooler error. I've tried restarting the print spooler, and making sure that "local system account" and "allow service to interact with desktop" is selected. I've also removed all old printer drivers, restarted, checked the rpc locater is active, and tried everything else i can think of.

This worked fine in vista x64 on the same machine just yesterday, but the upgrade to windows 7 x64 seems to have broken something. The printer, an hp c5500 series, works fine on a virtual machine running the same os. (I'd rather not have to run a vm just to print, of course. ) Running rtm x64 on a dell xps m1530 that printed fine from vista just before the upgrade to win7. Suggestions?

Print Spooler Error

I recently upgraded from vista 64 bit to windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I am on a dell studio laptop and i have a dell 1235 network printer which is on my home network. My printer was previously installed and worked fine when i was using vista but the first time i tried to print in win 7 i got a message that no printer was installed. When i tried to add the printer i got a message that "windows can's add a printer.

The local spool service is not working. " I went to services and started the spool service but everytime i start the spool service i get continuous  interactive service detection messages with the title microsoft visual c+ runtime library at the location windowssystem32spoolsv.exe. This also freezes everything else from starting on my computer and when i go to add printer with the spool started i get the message: windows can't open add printer operation could not be completed error message 0x000006be.

I have been combing these forums for days and have tried the microsoft fix it. It does not resolved the problem. I have tried cleaning the print drivers and many other things. Nothing has worked. I have to keep the spooler disabled in order to run any of my programs.

Win 7 Won't Print To Usb Printer On Xp Machine

I have a small home network here with my xp (home edtn) machine sharing web & print and have a wd external usb drive for shared file storage for the family. Ll seems to work ok - all other machines in the house connected via ethernet. Recently two of my daughters pensioned off their old xp desktops in favour of laptops - 1  is a vista home premium build, and the other is a win7 pro build. Ll shared services work for all machines except, the hp colour printer which is connected to my xp home box via usb.

I have another hp 1200 black laser on my machine connected via parallel and all users can see and print to it. When i try to do an install on either of the girls laptops (vista & win7) it seems to do the install but nothing prints to the usb hp colour. It has me mystified. Have tried suggestions on some forums about doing a 'local' printer install on the remote machines and then resetting the ports later etc etc but nothing will get ink on paper from these two laptops to the hp 970cxi colour. It works fine for the xp machines in the house.

Print Spooler Issue

Another print spooler issue.
Dell xps with win 7 free upgrade from vista
Hp laserjet 1018 and injet 920c

Everything worked fine since october purchase and november upgrade to win 7. Six days ago the print spooler would not stay started. Have checked print spooler and service is at automatic with retry at 0 seconds. Restart and restore did not solve. Uninstalling of printer drivers was not successful. Printer icons present on control panel with limited function. Not able to clear print que by double clicking on printer icons. Dependencies as specified in other posts.

Buw enumerator ? Both present in device manager.system file checker did not return problems. Searched and did not find tpvmmon.dll. Kb314876 not allowed because wrong operating system.microsoft support would not accept question and sent me to dell support.could not navigate that system. Nothing of help on dell or hp sites-just more of the same.

Print Spooler Hangs

I have 2 laptops, upgraded old one to win 7, new one came with it installed. Using several different printers, from time to time the spooler will freeze up. My only solution so far has been to open services, and stop the spooler, i then have to reboot to clear the problem. Then things work fine for a while then it hangs up again. Either laptop, any printer, direct or networked. Doesn't matter which combo i use so i can only conclude the problem lies with win 7.

Spooling Error 1053

I purchased dell inspiron 1545 previously installed with windows 7 in nov 2009. I have not had any printer installed before & i have just bought a hp photosmart c4680 printer. However, i am unable to complete installation due to a spooling error. I have followed the instructions to check the services manager and ensure spooling is set to auto (which it is), i have tried to start and come up with error 1053/1813. I have checked in windows/system 32 for spoolv.exe and there is no such file. This is as far as my knowledge goes, please advise!

Print Spooler Service Quits

The print spooler service is not running. It says it is set to automatically start but is not. I can manually start it but it quits shortly thereafter. I ran sfc /scannow and the results were "windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations. "I cannot uninstall the print driver software because it tells me the rpc server is not available. When i go into services it shows as being automatic and currently started.

Upgrade Causes Print Spooler Stop

I recently updated my lenovo thinkpad t61 from windows vista to windows 7 ultimate. This upgrade caused my computer to stop being able to print. Previously, i was using an hp deskjet 5650 to print from my computer. Now, i can't even get a the print dialogue box to come up in word when i press ctl p. When i try to add a printer in the printers window, i get the error message "windows can't open add printer. The local print spooler service is not running.

Please restart the spooler or restart the machine. " My printer is supposed to be compatible with windows 7. I have tried downloading new drivers, i have started and restarted the print spooler many times (it always crashes the first time i try to print something, ) and i have gone through hp customer support. Hp told me that the problem was with the operating system, not the printer and that i should contact microsoft for support. What should i do?

Error Code 1813 And 1053

I also have just bought a new computer ($1, 000) samsung brand and find i have three different types of printers (all working with windows vista) which just do not work with windows 7 due to the spooler problem. I also have tried all the magic fixits but depressingly to no avail. Can someone at microsoft please come up with a solution. Obviously windows 7 has a serious fault. By serious i mean at the very least you should be able to print a page from your computer (god!  My 80 year old grandfather has a old 486 for gods sake and he still prints!

I have bought 2 new printers and now have 3 computers, 2 with windows 7 and we are still using the old computer with vista on it (with all its supposed problems (i never actually had any))
I am very disgruntled at the amount of time (and i'm talking complete days turning into weeks trying to fix this problem) and money spent on apparently better technology.

I am not having a personal 'go' at anyone i am just trying to highlight the frustrations that obviously many, many people are experiencing. This is not good enough microsoft, windows 7 seems great apart from the printing problem but is it great technology if it is not doing what people require and expect from this product? Hoping for a solution to what is becoming a very expensive and annoying problem.

Printer Doesn't Print, But Job Shows Up In Spooler

The printer doesn't print, but job shows up in spooler when printing by network (lpr) - unless i restart the spooler! Same problem here. My epson d120 does have a compatible win7 driver and prints nicely via the same router configured in winxp (or 7, resp. ) Identically. In win7, no go. That is, unless i restart the spooler service/daemon under computer-manage-services manually. But not every time. When it restarts & will print correctly, epson's status window will pop up und inform about the progress.

I'm getting tired of the spooler restarting - please fix this (it works in xp)!?

Further details: win 7 rc (build 7100), updated printer drivers by clicking windows update button (added loads more, took ages). This btw also added another option under printer ports : customized/user defined (i'm using the german version, don't know the equivalent name in english). This wasn't present before the windows update procedure. It also exists in xp, though. Finding the printer via discovery of the port doesn't work - probably a upnp issue.

Will definitely not buy (though i think it's a great system/os) until this is fixed for good. Or is it, that your company doesn't like fully functional rc versions out there that users will eventually hack to get a freeby?

Don't get upset about the latter suggestion - it was just inspired by what other software vendors have been doing in the past. Not a good sort of behavior, if it ever leaks to the media/community.

Remove Local Printer Port - Change Print Driver Associated With Port

How do i remove a local printer port, or change the print driver associated with the port. I added a local printer port machine-name-printer-name to address a printer that's attached to an xp machine on my home network. There was no driver for my printer (hp officejet v. 40 or the v series), so i tried installing it with the officejet d series. Well, the test page didn't work. I deleted the printer via control panel, but apparently the local port didn't delete. I can't add the printer again, i can't delete it, and i can't change the driver. So i'm stuck.

Print Slow To Start

Anybody else get this problem, any solutions out there? Everytime i print it to our network printer or to a local, the print takes ages to start even for single pages of text. It spools ok but when it switches to printing it just refuses to clear out and send to print. It just keeps hanging there. Eventually like 1 to 2 mins later it finally goes over. I am running win 7 pro 64-bit. I have tried disabling the isolated print spooler as recommended but it's still the same.

Printer Spooler Error

I have installed windows 7 rc, and while i have had no problems with anything, the printer spooler service does not seem to work. I have gone into the services menu and i started the print spooler application, but it seem to go back to stop after a restart or shut down. Even when the print spooler is on and i try to print something, the system just says that the printer is offline.

I've just installed an hp officejet 8500 on my home network. I run windows 7 32 bit, and have downloaded the latest drivers.

When i try to print from an application like word 2007, i get "windows could not start the print spooler on local computer. Error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start. "  Going to services and setting both the print spooler and lex bce to automatic has not effect.

For what it's worth, i previously had lexmark software installed on the computer.

Error Code - 1813 - Printer Spooler Problems

I have a new dell laptop and have upgraded from win 7 home prem to win 7 professional.networked (not homegroup) (wireless) successfully with my old desktop running xp and i am now trying to add the hp printer attached to the desktop to network too.

I can "see" the printer on the network map but when i double click to add get the error code 1813 message and then 1053. I've been into services. Msc and the start up is set at automatic. In the field description is "failed to read description error code 1813. Status field is "stopped" when you try to start it you get "windows could not start this service on local computer. Error code 1053 - service did not respond to start in controlled or timely manner.

In all the forum etc i've been reading the only person who seems to have fixed this reinstalled the printer spooler thingy?. He recons it was corrupted in his upgrade from vista to win 7. I have no idea how to do this.

Printer Problem - Print Job In Print Queue Is Preventing Other Print Jobs

Cannot print from new laptop to shared printer - "a print job in the print queue is preventing other print jobs from printing". I recently bought a new laptop and want to print to a printer (hp color laserjet 1600) i have shared over the network from a windows 7 (x64) machine. When i try to print from my laptop it stays in the print queue and i have to run the troubleshooter on the host computer to resolve the issue and allow it to print.

If i run the troubleshooter on the laptop it tells me it could not identify the problem while on the host it tells me "a print job in the print queue is preventing other print jobs from printing" and it says it fixed the problem and prints the document but i have to do this every time. I also have this printer added to a laptop and a netbook and they both print the document just fine and have no issues. The laptop i am having the problems is running windows 7 (x64).
