Keyboard & Mousepad Conflict

I have recently installed windows 7 pro (64-bit) over my last os - windows 7 ultimate candidate (32-bit). Before hand, i had no problems with my keyboard and mouse-pad. Now, i can't move my mouse while i press a key on the keyboard (letters, space bar, numbers, etc). The mouse pointer just stays in place while a key is pressed, and even after i let go it takes a second for the mouse to move again. This is especially annoying when i'm trying to use keyboard shortcuts on photoshop.
I am not using any new programs.

My computer specs:
Acer extensa 4420
Amd turion64 x2
Ati radeon x1250

Ati Drivers Conflict

I upgraded from xp x32 to windows 7 x64. I performed a clean install of xp and immediately installed win7. After the first reboot in the setup the image on my monitor became garbled just after windows loaded. First, i restarted into safe mode but got a message that the installation was not complete and could only be completed in normal mode. I found that after windows loaded i could type my user name and press enter repeatedly to complete the installation although i still couldn't see what was happening.

After the installation completed i went into safe mode which gave me a clear picture. If i disabled the display adapter in safe mode i could boot into normal mode with a clear picture, but windows 7 would then install drivers which caused the image to become corrupted upon reboot. During one boot into normal mode the device manager gave me a code 19 for my video card:"windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged.

I've tried 2 clean installs, 3 driver versions, and a different monitor. The other monitor just gives a black screen where my main monitor gives a garbled image. I've used driver sweeper and the control panel to uninstall the video drivers, and i've installed new drivers from downloaded .exe's and by letting windows find them. This computer was working perfectly fine one day ago with windows 7 rc x64.

Conflict Between Usb Devices

I have windows 7 ultimate x64.couple days ago i bought apc smart ups 500va that has a usb connection to the pc to enable a soft shut down. I have installed the latest win 7 drivers from apc. I also have microsoft wireless multimedia keyboard 1. 1 and microsoft wireless optical mouse 2000. Once i installed the ups (it's using one of the usb ports), every time i reboot, the keyboard and mouse freeze and i can't fix that until i plug the ups out of the usb and reboot. Once i am in windows, i can plug the ups back in and it works perfectly. Re-installing drivers, removing devices and other usual tricks have not hepled. How can i get around this problem without replacing the hardware?

Installer Language Conflict

Just moved up to 64 bits windows 7. I have the dutch language version. I am trying to install msxml2 sp2 (msxml. Msi). One can choose from a number of languages, but not dutch, so i choose english (which is what i always did previously, and without problems). As soon as i click on install, my computer freezes up, and the only option is to turn off the power switch.

I have noticed that with other programmes (for example abbyy fine reader 9. 0) where one can choose the language (including dutch), the same thing happens if i choose a language other that dutch (fair enough), but surely we are allowed to use the msxml package? Any suggestions?Ideas:programs you are having problems with error messages recent changes you made to your computer what you have already tried to fix the problem.

Conflict Using Hauppauge And Nvidia

I recently installed hauppauge hvr in my new computer which uses a nvidia graphics card. Everything seems to work except the video input (using s-video) from a digital video camera (mounted on a microscope). The picture trough my win tv 7 is split, with the bottom half at the top of the screen and the top half at the bottom, separated by 3 colour bars across the screen. The picture is otherwise in black and white but should be in coulour. A second feed going directly to a tv is fine. Everything works as it should using usb live and windows xp. I am using windows 7 ultimate. We really need this to work as our business depends on it.

Wireless Problem Ip Conflict

I have a lap top ( gateway - windows7 ) and i connect to the internet via wireless. The problem is that the connection is really unstable, it drops like every single minute!

A message popped up saying that this computer has an ip conflict, that it has the same ip as another computer. Maybe that's the problem?

This connection is really driving me crazy, can someone help me out? The funny thing is that if i connect to others wireless connections, like in school for example, it works without any problem, without a single drop!

Ip Address Conflict On Home Network

I am a new at this and have never asked a question before but i am utterly lost. I am having a problem getting my 3 computers to connect to my wireless network. I am running windows 7. I can connect the laptop but when i try to connect the netbook or the desktop. I get an error of "ip address conflict". Below is a list of what i have tired.

Disconnected the wireless router and the modem.
Reset the wireless router to try to force a new ip address.
I have read and read.

I just read about the dhcp client and that is enabled but if i do a cmd ipconfig /all it says that dhcp client is not enabled but the auto configuration is enabled. The physical address is showing a string of zeros. Done an ipconfig to release and renew on both the laptop and the netbook.

When i do just an ipconfig:

Connection-specific dns suffix domain_not_set. Invalid
Ipv6 address: 2002:45b6:6a50:45b6:6a50
Default gateway: 2002:c058:6301:c058:6301

I have read all over this forum and i keep trying everything and nothing is working. I am not sure if i gave enough information. Any advice?

Power Service Conflict With Screensaver

My screensaver and other standby mode options have had problems starting. (For example, if i set my computer to a screensaver after 1 min, a closed screen after 3 min, and sleep after 5 min, none of them work)i went through and did a clean boot, to find that the screensaver and other options still did not start. It was only after i selected "diagnostic startup, " did the screensaver finally appear. After enabling services one by one, i discovered that it was the "power" microsoft service interfering with the screensaver starting up. Is there a way to fix the power service so that i may enable it without having it interfere with my screensaver?

Ati Driver Conflict - Display Crashes

I have an on going issue with my new system. At first i thought it was video/hardware related, but now i am leaning towards it being a conflict with windows. However, i have no way of tracking it down.

The issue: my screen will randomly die when running aero intensive applications, games, etc. Everything will run fine for a given amount of time (any where from seconds to an hour), but then the screen will clicker and the display will go out. On the screen i see a series of vertical white bars with a colors background. It does not appear to lock the computer up, as i still hear sound going in the background for a time; the computer will eventually reboot if i leave it alone long enough.

This is all running on a fresh install of windows 7 64x, upgraded from vista business 64. The temperatures on the card all read as normal, and there are no errors showing up in the event viewer after i reboot; outside of the 'unexpected shutdown' critical error.

When this first started happening i contacted xfx support for the video card. They had me uninstall the ati drivers, run driver sweeper, and reinstall the drivers. This seemed to fix the issue until tuesday, when windows update installed kb977074 - an update totally unrelated to video - and then the errors started happening again.

After a fit with system restore, i decided to format the drive and start over. Upon getting back in to windows 7 64x, i started installing programs one by one, checking after each install to see if i could create the error again. Everything was fine until i reached a program that installed the visual basic c+ 2005 redistributable package (x86). Once the error started to occur after this, i uninstalled the programs and did a system restore prior to the package installing.

The computer already had the c+ 2008 (x64) package installed, and worked fine once the 32-bit 2005 package was removed. However, most programs i want to use, and most games for that matter, require the 2005 package to be installed. So i re-installed it, and removed the 2008 package; thinking it was a conflict between the two (/straws), but that did nothing. The errors returned, and i an now back at square one, hiding on the last stable restore point of the system.

I am not sure if i am still dealing with a driver conflict, hardware issues or if the c+ packages are some how messing up my system. I am not putting much faith in the latter, because i do not believe the first scan with driver sweeper would of been so successful, only to be taken down later by a totally unrelated windows update file.

Synaptics Touchpad Conflict With Microsoft Mouse

I am having a problem with win 7 and an apparent conflict with the synaptics touchpad. I have a microsoft mouse working so i can use the laptop, but the touchpad won't work. I have tried just about everything from uninstalling both the touchpad and the mouse to a clean install of windows. I have narrowed it down (after several clean installs) to what seems to be a conflict with outlook connector. After the clean install the touchpad has resumed working and then i had to reload all of my programming which is a real pain.

The touch pad seemed to stop working after i downloaded and installed the outlook connector to allow mapi connection to my msn.com emails. I can not keep up the clean install process (done at least 3 times). I have downloaded the synaptics driver direct from the company without a fix. Gateway says keep doing a clean install which is ludicrous. The touchpad driver says it is working properly with no conflicts even though it does not work. I believe that this is a windows 7 problem. Any further ideas would be appreciated. By the way once the synaptics touchpad stops working nothing short of a clean install will fix the problem, so i have a choice no outlook or no touchpad.

Conflict Settings In Mobile Device Center

New mobile device center in windows 7 conflict resolution settings are too simplified and hence confusing. You can choose one of two settings:

Replace items on desktop; or
Replace items on device.

Any idea which is which? My primary synching is with exchange server at work. Periodically, i want to synchronize with my pc at home (which has windows 7). My worry is that i'll choose the wrong setting and lose the contacts on my device, which is constantly synchronizing with exchange server. I don't want my home pc to change anything on my device (i.e. , I only want to synch in one direction).

Sound Card And Wireless Network Card Conflict

I installed windows 7 custom (from xp) and my dlink dwa552 card connected immediately. The next day, i downloaded the drivers for my creative sound card, sb - xfi and after re-booting, the wireless would not connect. I disabled the sound card and still could not connect. Disabled the wireless and enabled, it connected correctly. Then i can enable the sound card without losing the connection, however, if i lost the connection, it would not re-connect. Any ideas how to trouble shoot this?

X6 Keyboard Issue

Recently purchased above keyboard and have noticed after a coule of weeks the #7 key at top of keyboard appears to stick down. Ie hold #7 key down and will repeat at a much faster rate than the other keys, almost 3-4 times as fast. If the plastic key is removed and i use a pen to hit the sensor it works correctly. Do you think it needs to be returned under warranty or is there something which i can do? I thought the key itself might be holding the plastic cover on teh sensor down longer than normal, but its position is consistent with all the other keys. I have checked for dirt etc under keys but all clear.

Changing Keyboard

I have a laptop with a japanese keyboard. I am running an english os. I have gone to control panel. I clicked the change keyboard. I added languages so that i have both english and japanese and both languages keyboard options installed. The ime too. When i press alt and shift, the language bar does change between en and jp. The language bar also indicates that the keyboard has changed too.

However, even when the language bar says the language is japanese and that the keyboard is japanese, the pc still types as if configured for an english keyboard. I have also tried typing with the default input language set as japanese, and then tried it set as english.

Does anyone know why, despite following all the steps; despite having text services and input languages indicating that under installed services that english and japanese input devices have been added (and yes, i pressed apply); and despite having a language bar that does switch between english and japanese when alt+shift is pressed, that nothing changes and the key board still behaves as an english (us) keyboard?

Brazilian Keyboard

I just received a new computer with windows 7, and i'm trying to get a brazilian keyboard to work with it. My old computer was xp, and this same keyboard worked fine. I set up a different language for when i was using this keyboard, and it would let me use all the keys (i don't remember what was the keyboard layout that i used).

When i try and set it up with windows 7, however, there is no keyboard layout that matches my layout. The abnt and abnt2 options look the same, and both are missing two keys. My keyboard has the to the left of the z, and the / to the right of the ;. Is there some error with how windows 7 has set up one of these keyboards?

Login Using Only Keyboard

When i leave my work desk i have to lock my station, i do it very often so i would like to login faster - by using only my keyboard. Is there a combination of keys that would get me straight to the password box? When locked the monitor says "swipe your finger" (i can't use my fingerprint reader at that point because the lid is closed, i'm using external keyboard and monitor) when i try ctrl+alt+del nothing happens, esc key works by displaying user icon and the button "switch user".

I must point the user icon with the mouse to reveal the password box, there is apparently no way to change focus to that icon from the keyboard (tab doesn't work). It's annoying that i must grab my mouse every time i want to unlock the workstation.

Using Keyboard In Win 7

I'm not visually impaired, but i prefer to use the keyboard more than the mouse. I am finding win7 to be very cumbersome to use with the keyboard. I know there are tons of new logo key combinations-i think i've tried them all-but it is still very difficult for me to move around explorer using the keyboard. Seems like everything takes 2 or 3 more keystrokes than it did when i used xp. How are other "keyboarders" or even visually impaired users coping with win 7? Any ideas on working more efficiently with the keyboard?

The @ Key On Keyboard

I have just bought and started using a netbook. I've got windows 7 running and have installed office 2007 professional. The keyboard layout is qwerty. When i use the number 2 key to add the @ symbol to what i am writing, i get speech-marks (") and visa versa with the speech-marks key i get an @.
The number 3 key give a pound (£) symbol instead of the hash. I have been to the control panel to check the region and the keyboard settings, but it all looks normal. Is there a way of changing these keys to they way they are printed on the keyboard?

No Keyboard Input Available

There is a user who started having problems this morning. The machine is 1 week old, loaded with windows 7 ultimate 64bit. The keyboard is dead, the only thing i'm able to do is turn the f-lock on and off nothing else responds. I tried plugging in another usb keyboard and then a ps-2 keyboard and neither work. When i was finally able to use the on screen keyboard to login i found in device manager there was an error 19 for the keyboard saying that driver information in the registry had become corrupt so the device couldn't be started.

So i look that up and find that deleting the upperfilter in the registry was suggested. So i deleted the upperfilter and rebooted and still no keyboard. I can use the keyboard in the bios and to select safe mode or normal mode but once windows starts the keyboard is dead. I've also noticed that everytime i reboot along with the usb keyboard and mouse a ps-2 keyboard and mouse is installed in the device manager with exclamation marks. I've restored to earlier times when everything worked and still no keyboard. Any ideas?

Keyboard Drivers Becoming Disabled

Keyboard *drivers* becoming 'disabled' (1st usb, then ps/2); show "!" In hw-lst, but win-diags find nothing wrong. This is a most peculiar problem. First my usb kbd driver went dead. At first i didn't notice it, as i was using the mouse, primarily, for input, but remember a hw-rejected sound from windows earlier upon logging in.

My keyboard wouldn't do anything. No led toggles - etc, but on another machine, fine, and on same machine 'fine' - until windows comes up, then kbd goes dead (once bios drivers are no longer driving kbd, likely).

Under keyboards, the hid keyboard driver showed a small yellow triangle with an ! In it.

After trying  reinstalling the driver (its the stock ms driver), upgrading it (no upgrades), repair ("nothing can be found wrong, maybe the driver is corrupt", but file kbd_hid.sys, checks out w/valid ms sig), i decide to hook up a ps/2 keyboard. It worked for all of maybe 20 seconds. Then a low hw reject message as win7 disconnected my ps/2 kbd! Unbelievable! Now both my hid kbd driver and the 'standard ps/2 keyboard driver show up with the yellow triangle with a "!" In it. But i can't figure out what's doing wrong with the.

I also tried system restore to day before any of this happened - no go. I figured going back further would be a waste, since the start of the problem was rather clearly defined.

I *thought* i had caused it when i tried to enter a sw policy restriction to forbid 'wisptis.exe' from executing - (the onscreen digital ink input dealy) - for two reasons - it kept getting in the way and i couldn't figure out how to get it to turn off (i wanted to use my tablet's native drivers, but wisptis was interfering and making the tablet good for nothing but digital ink (handwriting recognition as keyboard input)).

The final straw came when i was looking through my logs and found the security log (~20mb log) mostly full with security failures from wisptis.exe (i turned on monitoring of security failures, only, thinking that failures, should be rare in properly acting sw, and this software was clearly violating win7's own security policy!).

It was after i added the policy that the usb keyboard went dead.

But that policy went away from the first 'backstep' (system restore point) - but the keyboard didn't come back. After that it was downhill for the ps/2 driver. So, to be clear, the policy is not in the security panel - it was back to pre-init state (no sw policies in effect) after the 1st system restore. So that 'had' to be coincidence. But it felt oddly coincidental, that the only 'keyboad' type inputs left to use on the system were the on-screen keyboard and the digital-ink keyboard. (Mouse paths/drivers are unaffected).

Keyboard Performing Shortcuts

Why is my keyboard performing shortcuts i don't want and don't mean to type? I have a new dell inspiron laptop (my old computer with windows xp was also a dell laptop). When i am typing, especially when i'm typing an email or anywhere else online (in firefox), i am unintentionally closing windows and tabs, opening up history and bookmarks sidebars, accidentally sending emails, opening up windows explorer windows. It's all from the keyboard - i am accidentally entering in shortcuts somehow, i guess? I have no idea. This was not a problem on my old computer.

I am a fast typer, but this is annoying the _ out of me. Is this a setting i can turn off? Is it windows 7, or firefox, or my keyboard? Of course i use the common computer shortcuts (copy, cut, paste, etc. ) And don't want to completely turn off keyboard shortcuts, but i am not purposely entering in shortcuts, they just keep happening. All the time. What is the deal?

Win 7 Keyboard Issues

I have recently installed the windows 7 release candidate. I partitioned my hard drive so that i can dual boot between that and xp. Everything was working fine until i restarted and booted into xp to do a few things in there then restarted again and booted into windows 7. Upon doing so, my keyboard no longer works. It had been working fine prior to the restart. It is a compaq 134 key office/internet keyboard with a ps/2 connection.

I ran the driver disk on windows 7 prior to ever restarting. I also tried using a dell keyboard with a usb connection and that didn't work either. I have a password protected login, therefore i am stuck at the login screen. I have logged in using the on-screen keyboard and gone to device manager. First it would tell me that the drivers for either keyboard were not installed. Then it would tell me that they were installed, but they still wouldn't work. I was really looking forward to testing out this new version of windows, but it's not making a god first impression. I'm just glad that i chose to dual-boot.

Laptop Keyboard Not Working

I had the rc version of windows working fine on my asus aspire 5670 laptop for several months. Then about 2 weeks age, i installed a couple of windows updates and the laptop keyboard stopped working. No red bangs in deice manager, updating driver had no effect. Keyboard works fine in bios as well as in safe mode. Restore points had no effect. Flashed the bios, still nothing. Since windows 7 was released last week, i snagged a copy and did a clean install (formatting the system drive in advance) assuming that this would fix the problem - it did not! I had to use the on screen keyboard to enter  the product key ;).
