Problem With Program Install

Error occurred during the move data process code 2147024873. I am trying to install nascar 2003 on my my gateway fx6801 desktop running windows 7 64 bit. I can install on my other computer that is running windows xp. Not sure why it will not install on this computer. I think it has to do with the installer for the game there is an inf. File that this computer will not recognize.

Install 32-bit Apps To Program-files Rather Than Program Files (x86)

On 64-bit win7, is it wrong to install 32-bit apps to (drive letter):program files rather than program files (x86)? If wrong should installer prevent this? If installer allows it, what app behavior is appropriate?

Background: winzip 14. 0 (a win7 compatible 32-bit app) won't run if installed to c:program files. If installed to any other alternate path or folder name it runs ok. By convention starting with vista, c:program files (x86) is for 32 bit apps and c:program files for 64-bit apps. But installers allow overriding the install path and folder name. e.g, maybe i want 32 bit apps in c:program files and 64 bit apps in c:program files (x64).

If c:program files is a restricted location for 32 bit apps, should not the installer and/or os enforce this, rather than allow installation then break the app? What is the correct practice for both users installing apps and developers porting apps to win7?

Custom Install - Program-files And Program Files X86

Custom install from windows vista hp 32 bit to windows 7 hp 64 bit leave 2 program files - "program files" and "program files (x86). Mostly same files in either folder. If x86 is needed, i don't mind but why duplicate entries with items like windows mail. I tried to to delete program files x86 without any success, and i would like to delete system-32 files in the windows folder plus any other 32 bit related items, if possible.

I do not want a system with duplicate and redundant files. Because two items that i downloaded and installed appear in both program files, i'm suspending any further actions on the installation until i'm fortunate enough to receive some help and/or advice from this forum.

Cannot Install Audio Program

I'm trying to run an old audio program bought 10 years ago on my new pc running 64 bit windows, but it's not working. Yeah, when launched i get the following error: "the program can't start because wmvcore2.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem. "

I've tried launching the .exe in "windows xp (service pack 3)" compatibility mode, but it doesn't seem to work. Still get the same error message. Any thoughts?

Skype Program Install Problem

Tried to install skype on a new windows 7 system. Part way through the install, the install routine says that the program wants to make changes to the computer, do you agree yes/no. The query box has the user accounts icon in the top left corner. Click yes, immediately the language dialogue opens starting with czech. Scroll through to english, push button, instantly every thing changes to czech. Retry install routine over & over, always same result.

Skype say to use revo uninstaller. Same problem happens except it flips to cata (catalan?). Tried another uninstaller same problem just a different language. Always with the same dialogue boxes and the same user accounts icon in the top left hand corner.

I know this is weird but it is happening right now four puters here, 3 with skype, one with who knows what?

Could Custom Program Files Location Be Specified Before Install ?

Could a custom "program files" location be specified before windows vista is install on a computer?

I'm a fan of running the windows operating system on low capacity high speed disks and off loading my programs and documents/data to other disks. This is a simple enough operation for the documents/data but there aren't a lot of options for the program files.

A popular windows "tweak" idea that gets close to what i want to do (if it actually worked) is tweaking the default program files location stored in registry so, as new programs are installed the default location given reflects the custom location specified.

The problem with this is the program file location values in registry do more then provide a default location for installing software. The programs that vista installs on the "c drive" during a normal installation need these keys unchanged if they're to be referred to correctly later on. So like many keys in the windows registry, they provide an answer to multiple versions of an inquiry and changing the answer tends to have further reaching effects then one might think.

So, as for solving this problem around separating programs from os, i see only two possible choices (neither of which i know how to pull off currently):

1. Make the change to the default program location before windows vista is installed (with a custom install disk or the like) so my custom program location is address from the get go, making every thing (windows programs included) install accordingly and insuring that there aren't multiple program locations to be confused over.

2. Some how, do some crafty registry work that would operate as follows: if a program asks for a default location to install a program, provide the custom location i specified, leaving the "programfilespath" and "programfilesdir" keys unaffected for the sake of the windows programs that by default exist on the c drive.

Upgrade Install Need To Remove Program Called Perfectdisk

Windows 7 install question. Keeps telling me i need to remove a program called "perfectdisk", but i don't show it on my system. Won't let me upgrade to my windows vista. Upon trying to install windows 7 home premium to vista home premium, i keep getting an error message that says that i need to uninstall something called "perfectdisk". I understand it is a defrag download. However i don't have any software labeled perfectdisk on my computer. Can someone please help me to answer where i might be able to find this file or program. I already went into the uninstall area and there is nothing named that.

Program Install Error - A File That Is Required Cannot Be Installed

Program install error: a file that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet file setup has an invalid digital signature. Cabinet file setup 11. Cab has an invalid digital signature. When trying to install a software program on my windows 7 netbook, an installer information panel stated "a file that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet file setup 11. Cab has an invalid digital signature. This may indicate that the cabinet file is corrupt".

Thus the program would not load. Is the problem with the software or with the windows 7 netbook? If the netbook is the problem, can the faulty cabinet file be removed and replaced with a correct file? If so, how?

Program Won't Install - Event Id 882

Program won't install on laptop running win7 ultimate (throws event id 882), but is installable on another win7 ultimate client. I have a sewing friend who wants to install a program for her bernina sewing machine on her laptop. It installed fine on her 32-bit laptop running windows 7, but now she has a 64-bit dell running win7 ultimate, and it does not install. When i tried to do it for her, i got event id 882: softwarerestrictionpolicies.

I tried installing it a variety of ways-the attempt shown was from a flash drive, but i got the same error no matter what i did. I took the flash drive to work and was able to install the software on my 64-bit desktop machine without a wimper, so i know it works on the win7 ultimate 64-bit version. (And of course, i didn't log the 882 event. ) Even though she has ultimate, bitlocker
Is not installed, although it is on my desktop. Is anyone familiar with this event? If i could just figure out what policy is invoked and change it, i am sure this would install fine for her.

Setting Live Mail Program As Default Program

I am trying to set windows 7 live mail program as a default program. It does not show up as an option on my "set default programs list". I know that i have it because i am using the program. Where else can it be? I asked this question earlier in the context of trying to attach smaller picture files to an email. I followed the written instructions in the help section and those of the person who replied to my earlier question(ramesh). They both said to select live mail from the default programs list-but as i said before it is not on the list. Do you have any other suggestions?

Can I Delete Program From Program-files (x86) Directory ?

Why is windows media player in the program files directory (i assume for 64 bit programs) and also in the program files (x86)? It runs ok from either. Can i delete it from (x86) and other duplicates as well? I also note that office 2007 seems to be in the (x86). Does that mean it is not a 64 bit program?

How To Move Program, Program(86) Data Folders ?

I'm going to install win 7 64-bit on a 64 gb ssd and i want my program files to be on my hdd or my d:/ drive. I've read a few articles that contradict each other - one that states to use a registry change, a microsoft article that states ms doesn't support such a registry change, and a suggestion that all one need do is to change the drive letter on the installation of the program.

I'd appreciate it if someone would help me understand the best way to change the location of my program files. I am also concerned about leaving my temp, tmp, and perf files on the ssd. Should those be moved? And if so, what might be a good way to do this?

After Win7 Install Should I Install Programs Then Backed Up Files ?

After windows 7 complete install. Should i install the programs then the backed up files or the backed up files then the programs. Windows 7 complete install. Should i install the programs then the backed up  files or the backed up files then the programs. I saw where microsoft recommended installing the backed up files first then the programs so the programs know where the files are located.

I would think installing the programs first would be better to minimize defragmentation. Os then programs, then files.

Do You Want The Following Program To Allow Changes To This Computer

I always get message "do you want the following program to allow changes to this computer?" When starting mozilla thunderbird after upgrade from vista to windows 7 home premium. I have changed the "privilege level settings" of thunderbird to "run this program as administrator", but it still makes me log on as administrator every time i start thunderbird to see my email.

This is not only annoying (i.e. Having to login as administrator every time i start thunderbird), but also prevents thunderbird from starting when accessed, for example, from "windows photo viewer" email button (apparently, it tries to start thunderbird, but doesn't have enough permissions so fails).

I don't get this with any of my other applications (e.g. Firefox, etc. Run fine without requiring me to logon as administrator). I'm not sure if i have installed thunderbird odd, or did something else different, but this never happened to me in vista. I don't want to remove all uac security for all programs. What can i do?

"this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. " Error when double clicking folder or c drive. Can open c drive or folder by double clicking. I have had an issue for quite some time with open my c drive or any folders. Every time i click to open either one, i get: "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default program control panel"

However, if i right click on the mouse and choose open, i can access the drive/folder with no problem. How do i correct this back to ordinary clicking on the drive/folder?
