Manage All Programs Menu

Is there a way to manage the "all programs" menu? In previous versions of windows you could right click on the start button and select "open" or "open all users". I would like to clean up the "all programs" folder so things are easier to find. I like having my programs in sub-folders so that i don't have to scroll through all programs to find what i'm looking for.

Moved Target All Programs Under Start Menu

I moved the target where "all programs" under the start menu points to. How do i restore it? I recently installed windows 7 professional over windows vista home premium. A windows. Old folder was created on my hard drive which stored all my previous files. Once the installation was complete, i moved all of my files back to where they should be. However, my program files (c:program files and c:program files (x86)) were not showing up in the "all programs" list under the start menu.

So in an attempt to remedy this, i opened the "all programs" folder by right-clicking on it, right-clicked the programs folder, then on the properties tab changed the location target to point to c:program files. Unfortunately, this did produce the desired results. Each program folder lists all sub-folders and files associated with that program (not just a shortcut to the program itself).

So how do i restore it back to the way it was? The original programs folder is no longer there. Also, if you know of the right way to have my programs appear in the "all programs" list under the start menu, that would be much appreciated.

Pin Programs Back To Start Menu

On my old computer i had windows xp. If you dragged a program from the start menu to the desktop it just created a short cut. The program was still listed on the start menu under "programs". In windows 7 when i drag a program from the start menu onto the desktop it is now gone from my start menu all together. And if you decide to delete the shortcut from your desktop you're screwed. The program obviously still exists but i have to open it by different means. Am i missing something obvious here? Also, windows 7 does not allow you to right click a program and create a shortcut on the desktop anymore? Only taskbar?

Duplicate Programs Folder In Start Menu

I've noticed that ever since i upgraded from vista to windows 7 there is a duplicate programs folder in my start menu under all programs. It consists a duplicate of all the shortcuts and folders already in my menu. I remember a fix when i had the same problem a long time ago, where you go to properties of the start menu and uncheck the default program box. Solution explained here:

http://jen3ral. Wordpress.com/2009/03/25/vista-start-menu-duplicate-programs-folder/

However this solution doesn't work for windows 7 and i've gotten the same or atleast a similar problem again. Is there anyway to fix this?

Clean Up All Programs Shows In Start Menu

I am going from xp to 7. In the start>all programs listing all programs downloaded is listed. In xp i could go to "documents and settings", create folders and put files listed in all programs into separate folders. This resulted in very few folders containing the downloaded files. For example, i had files listed as "business", "security", "internet" etc. How do i accomplish this in 7 so that my all programs listing is primarily folders and all the downloaded programs. I hope i made myself clear.

Changing Start Menu To Show All Programs By Default

How do i change the start menu to show all programs by default? I'm trying to figure out how to get the all programs to load by default in the start menu (rather than showing recent programs, which we want disabled). Is there a registry key that can be changed or created to accomplish this?

Manage Network Connections

In windows vista, when i wanted to troubleshoot connectivity issues, i would go to network and sharing center, under tasks i would go to "manage network connections". Not "manage wireless network connections"; just manage network connections. I do not have that option under tasks in windows 7. It is very frustrating. I do "helpdesk" for a local isp and often when they have both wireless and cable connection available, i will have them disable which ever one they are not using. That is just one example of an instance in needing to manage network connections, not just wireless network connections. How is this accomplished with windows 7?

How To Manage File Types In Win 7?

In xp, one can go to control panel -> folder options -> file types , choose an extension, then choose advanced and typically see a list of actions associated with the file type. One can change the default action and/or edit an action to change the program/command used for that action. I haven't been able to find a similar facility in windows 7. I do know about control panel -> default programs where one can change the primary program association for a file type, but this doesn't provide the list of actions. Does the described facility exist in windows 7?

Ie7 - Cannot Manage Add-ons

I have a problem concerning ie 7 add-ons. I can't open the tab that customize the ie add-ons, neither through ie -> tools, or control panel -> internet options -> programs. I just doesn't open up when i click it (no error message, nothing).

My internet browsing works fine, with all add-ons activated, the problem is just i can't see the tab to see what's installed and change their status. I'm on a win xp sp3, mcafee av since a year ago (previously norton av). I don't know exactly when the problem started, but when i installed ie 7 i remember clearly it was ok. I remember my laptop became infected with a pen-drive virus, which was solved time ago.could that have affected this feature?

Manage Files And Folders Separately

In win 7 explorer, under "view, folder options", the option to manage (html) files and folders as separate files is gone. I've tried the registry tweak (i.e. , Add dword nofilefolderconnection to hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrentversionexplorer) but it does not work for me! I tried values of 0, 1, and 2. In addition to adding the key to "advanced" and "advancedfolder" under the explorer key.

I also heard that this option showed up in xp only after ms office was installed. So i busted out an old copy of ms works 2002 and installed word. It didn't work. I'm not about to spend another penny buying another copy of office just to fix this issue.

I'm finding the "manage as one file" option to be intolerable. Please help before i give up in disgust and install linux.

Cannot Manage Backup Space On More Than 1 Drive At A Time

Cannot manage backup space on more than 1 drive at a time; can view backups on more than 1 drive at a time. I make image and regular backups to 2 different usb drives - because you do not know when a backup drive will fail. Win7 backup and restore gui allows one to view backups on multiple drives at same time via "select another backup to restore files from".

Manage space only allows to manage space on the currently configured backup drive. Further - if modifying the configuration to select a different drive - you are forced to start a backup before you can manage space on that drive. - "Save settings and run backup" there may be little space on the drive - so i will have to either cancel the backup after started or configure a useless  small backup so that i can then manage space on the drive.

Manage Default Printers Button Missing

I want to use window 7's ability to set different default printers for at home and at work, but the "manage default printers" button is missing from my screen. I had windows professional installed, but thought i read somewhere that it was only available with ultimate, then later i read that it was only available with premium. Do i need to do something when i connect to my home or office connection or turn something on for this feature to work?

Manage User Accounts And Change An Account Issues

As a standard user, "manage user accounts" and "change an account" have no pictures, just blank frames. Under a standard user account, if i go in to manage user accounts (and there is a screen that comes up that makes me put in the admin password), the account pictures do not show under the "manage accounts" section or the "change an account" section. There are blank frames on those screens. If i am in the administrator account, it is fine. This computer was purchased with windows home premium and upgraded the same day as purchased to windows professional.

Menu Display Problem

At some point shortly after upgrading vista business 64-bit to windows 7 pro 64-bit top level menus from all programs started displaying by expanding to the left. For example, in a program with a "file" item on its main window bar, when i click on it, the "file" menu expands to the left so that the menu's display pane appears with the extreme right edge under the mouse pointer over the "file" entry on the main menu bar.

If the menu has a sub-menu expansion indicated by a right-facing arrow, when i click such an item, it expands to the left of the parent menu box.

Similarly right-click context menus (e.g. Desktop display properties menu) also expand leftward leaving the mouse pointer at the extreme right edge of the menu display pane.

Note that "custom" menus generated by program specific buttons implemented in a window within the main program window (usually appearing below the main menu bar) do not suffer from this problem.

It seems to me that there must be some obscure registry setting that was 'clobbered' by some installation (office 2010 beta?, Vcredist? . ?) That i have been unable to locate and fix. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Classic Start Menu

Office 2007 Programs Do Not Appear In Default Programs List

I have both openoffice.org and microsoft office 2007 installed on my windows 7 computer and i would like to use microsoft office as the default for all files it can open but it does not appear in the default programs list.

In fact, except for microsoft office outlook, none of my microsoft office 2007 applications appear in the default programs list!

Openoffice.org does appear, and when i click on it in the list and click choose defaults for this program many of the defaults are already set to the equivalent microsoft office application. But there are some associations (such as text files) that are not correctly associated, and possibly others that i don't know about. I'd like to click on microsoft word and then click set this program as default so that it will automatically open all the files it can.

Cannot Use Usb Keyboard In Boot Menu

Cannot use usb keyboard in "windows did not shut down properly" boot menu. Sometimes when windows tries to sleep, it cannot properly recover, or wake up. For instance, it goes to sleep, but then does nothing when i move the mouse or press keys. I've installed a hotfix for it and maybe it'll fix the problem, however, when i use the restart button to get out of this situation, a "windows did not shut down properly" menu comes up, with the option of selecting safe mode, etc.

In this menu, i cannot use my keyboard to select any options, i cannot press enter to select the default "start windows normally" option and usually have to wait for the timer to run down. I've only had this problem since switching to a usb keyboard from ps2. Furthermore, there seems to be no power to the keyboard, the caps-lock key doesn't turn a light on when pressed etc so that it seems like the keyboard is non-functional in this menu. I can enter the bios and work the bios with this keyboard indicating the problem may not be hardware.

Start Menu Links Do Not Work

I'm using windows 7 ultimate. It was working fine. But a couple of days before, all the programs in my start menu have got file extension ". Lnk". Now whenever i try to open any program using start menu(eg: "adobe reader. Lnk" which should be adobe reader.exe"), it doesn't work/open. It seems like all the files in the start menu have been asked to open using internet explorer, so, may be, file extension has been changed to ". Lnk". Please give me an appropriate solution to resolve it.

Drop Down Menu Not Working In Ie8

I have been trying to obtain information from the following site: http://www.Gitzo.com/cms/site/gitzo/cache/off. Unfortunately, on my home pc that has windows 7 and ie 8 installed, the drop-down menus just do not work (they do on my office pc that has xp professional and ie 7). I have tried changing some ie settings under internet options and even resetting the defaults, but it still doesn't work.

Would someone be able to let me know what setting i should change (or check whether on another pc with ie 8 these menus work).

Hidden Icons On Start Menu

I installed an old game (neverwintr nights) on my new win7 pro system and win7 told me that the game was not compatible when i tried to run it. So, i went and grabbed (manually) the latest patch and the game runs fine. However, the program group and program icons for the game do not show up on my start menu, even though they exist in the c:programdatamicrosoftwindowsstartmenu-programs folder, and they do not have the hidden attribute set.

The account i'm running under is an administrators account. Obviously there is some sort of setting, probably in the registry, which for my "safety" is blocking me from viewing and therefore using these icons. If someone could let me know how to turn off this very annoying "feature" i'd be very grateful.

Os Boot Menu Time Setting

I don't know what this black screen is called , but its the one, where  u can choose which operating system u want to use. For example if u installed windows 7 and windows vista and u open ur computer  it gives u a choice  to choose which windows u wanna use. Basically i installed windows 7 twice and  now i have to choose between windows 7 and windows 7 the first one is the working one, the second one not. But it takes 28 seconds to be chosen automatically. I was wondering if i can either decrease these 28 seconds to 1 second for example or just remove the second windows 7 to make it run with the first one automatically.
