Error - Printer Cannot Be Contacted Over The Network

I have recently upgraded my laptop to windows 7, while the rest of my office still uses windows xp. I was able for a month or so to print to all printers, since upgrading. However, now it will allow me to print to all printers on the network except for one. The other people in the office are still able to print to that printer. What can i do?

Error - 0x00000866 - Cannot Use Network Printer

An hp printer in our home is connected to a w95 laptop and shared to the homegroup. Other laptops, mostly xp, use this printer by wireless network. A new windows 7 laptop can not "persistently" use this printer. (Error 0x00000866) adding it as a local printer, selecting the correctly listed network location (serverprinter_name) as a port, allows printing until the computer is rebooted. After the reboot the print jobs just go onto the printer queue because the printer is described as "offline". There seems to be no way to put the printer "online". Is there any way to add the printer so that it can be used after rebooting?á

Network Communication Error, Printer

I'm running win7 rc and am trying to get my hp c6380 wireless printer to work. Originally, i added the printer via the "devices and printers" window, and the correct driver was automatically downloaded and installed; however, every time i sent a print job, it cleared the computer and then seemingly disappeared. Test pages from the printer properties window also disappeared. Software that on vista recognized the scanning function do not even recognize the printer in win7. I've isolated the problem as being with wireless communication because when the printer is connected via usb everything is fine.

After i got to this point, i downloaded the driver and software suite from hp's website, deleted the printer (both the wireless and usb connection) from the devices window, and worked on manually installing the driver/software. Once i got the point where the software installer attempts to send and confirm a test page to the printer, i got a message that perhaps the firewall is blocking a port or two. I fiddled with the advanced firewall settings (which is out of my depth), then just turned the firewall off. Still no go. The installer continued to tell me that it couldn't communicate with the printer. I skipped this and finished the installation of the software, but still no go on printing.

Now, i just turned off the printer to see if the computer changed it's status (which happens in vista), and it didn't. To continue to prod, i tried to send a test page with the printer off. The test page went to the spool and sat there, never indicating that the printer was off, just waiting. When i turn the printer on, the test page job appears to finish and then never prints.

This is certainly not a do or die issue, but i'd like to make sure that my printer works (or that i can find a solution to this issue) with win7 so i feel confident in making the switch when it comes out. This is the the only essential thing that i can't get to work. Anyone got any advice or ideas?

Network Printer

Trying to set up a network printer and having problems. Printer is hp photosmart c5200 hooked up to pc running windows 7. It works fine on that computer. I have a laptop running windows vista that i would like to get to share the printer. Laptop is obviously wireless. Did have the same set up working on a pc running windows xp with no problems. I have the sharing tabs set on both pc and a homegroup set up on pc ( workgroup on laptop ).

Can access pc from laptop, but when i go to discover printer it is not showing up. Can access pc and navigate to folder showing printer. Have tried to manually add printer to laptop, but will not print. Did notice that laptop and pc are in different workgroups in laptop network set up, but can't figure out how to delete one and put them in same workgroup. Any help is appreciated

Network Printer Not Working

I'm having trouble getting windows 7 pro (64 bit) talking to a network printer. The printer (samsung clp660) is connected directly to the network (via ethernet cable). I have downloaded the correct drivers from the samsung website which just happens to be the same for all versions of windows and after running the setup and using the samsung software to setup the printer as a network printer, which sees the printer on the network and appears to install perfectly.

However, this is where the problem starts. First the printer was showing as 'offline' so i disabled snmp on the tcp/ip port that this printer was using which fixed the 'offline' problem. When i try to print a test page it does not print giving an error in the print queue. When i run the troubleshooting wizard it says that windows is not communicating with printer and is unable to rectify the problem. I have also successfully managed to ping the printer from the offending windows 7 workstation.

I have successfully installed the same network printer on 2 other xp pro workstations using the same setup package.

Printing On Network Printer

Iáupgraded 2 desktop pcs from vista to win 7. Each pc has its own printer directly attached. Prior to upgrading, both pcs could print to either printer. After upgrading, one pc can print to both but the other can printáonly the printer directly attached however, the printer on the other machine is visible when checking devices on the network. I have gone through checking network names, sharing, reinstalling drivers, deleting and reinstalling the printer with no success. I've even attempted to establish a "home group" but am unable to do so. Any suggestions?

Network Printer Cannot Connect

Its for my homegroup network with both computers running windows 7 (pc is on 64bit and laptop is on 32bot). I can print from the pc where the printer (epson) is connected via usb but i can't print from my laptop through the network. The homegroup works fine enough, i can access files through it. I thought originally it was pharos that was upsetting the computer (installed very very poorly and finally days later managed to get every sign of it off the laptop) - but now i get the printer being found but it won't connect!

I've been though a couple of other threads but none of it seems to work. The file and printer sharing has always been connected (as my brother from his xp computer can print to my printer) and the firewall lets it through. Is there any other way? The permissions are set to print for everyone so its not that either. Does anyone know how i can get my laptop access to print?

Printer Not Printing Over Network

I saw a question similar to mine but not quite the same issue. My main desktop is running win7 pro and my laptops and other desktop are running win xp pro. I have set up a work network not a home network, per instructions from a friend in it. All other computers can see the printer and print jobs get spooled to the main computer. The jobs arrive but do not print. Just to clarify, i can print just fine from the main computer. I know there is a tutorial on here for this issue, but the graphics are no longer present, so it's rather difficult to check what the settings should be.

I am running windows 7 pro on a laptop connected to a network server utilizing windows 2000 server. When i try to add a network printer on the server to the laptop, the printer shows up in the add a printer wizard, but when selected, the process ends with an error message that the printer port is unknown. Incidentally, i can access the network printer if i access it on the laptop as a shared printer on another machine connected to the server running xp, but not directly off the server as i want to. Any help in getting the printer port recognized?

Network Printer Wakeup Problem

I have a windows 7 laptop wi-fi'ed to my windows 7 desktop, both recently upgraded from vista. The printer on the desktop is network-shared. On the desktop, under power options, sleep, "allow wake timers" is enabled. Printing from the laptop under vista could occur whether the desktop was awake or asleep. Now, under w7, printing occurs only when the desktop is awake. On the desktop, under printer properties, "sharing" tab, it reads: " the printer will not be available when the computer sleeps.

To change these settings, use the network and sharing center. " However, i can find no option there to allow waking the desktop on a print request from the laptop. How can i cause the desktop to awake on a laptop print request?

Can't Print To Network Printer

I just upgraded my desktop and laptop to windows 7 a week ago. When using vista i was able to print over the network to my hp photosmart c5280 printer. Now, when i attempt to print from my wirelessly connected laptop it appears that it was sent to the printer fine, but nothing ever prints. My desktop is hardwired(usb) to the printer and i can print fine from it. My desktop is ethernet connected to my router and my laptop is wirelessly connected to the network through the router as well. I tried multiple times to connect both systems to a home group and everything appeared fine.

At times however i could only see one system or the other though both were still connected to the home group. I have already installed the windows 7 drivers and software from hp on the desktop and the drivers on the laptop. I can see the printer from my laptop as being shared, however when i print nothing ever actually prints on the printer. I removed both computers from home group and just set up the folders and printer to be shared like in vista however i am still getting the same problem. I ran the troubleshooters on both systems for the printer and network and homegroup and found no problems.

Add A Shared Printer On A Network

I recently installed windows 7 64 bit and i'm trying to add an hp deskjet 970cse printer that's been shared on my corporate network. I went to hp's web site and looked for the appropriate windows 7 64-bit driver to download and found there isn't one, that it is supposed to be built into windows 7 and that windows 7 should find the driver automatically when i add the printer, which it doesn't seem to be able to do, at least for this shared printer. I moved the printer and physically connected it to my windows 7 system and w7 was able to install the correct driver.

I then put the printer back on the system on which it belongs and was still unable to connect to it through the network. I went through hp support to try to get them to send me the driver so i could point to it manually to get the printer installed that way but after much back and forth, they refused to do so.

The system on my corporate network on which the printer is physically connected and installed is a system running windows xp 32-bit with service pack 3. On my own w7 64-bit system, i go to control panel > hardware and sound > devices and printers and select "add a printer". I then select "add a network, wireless or bluetooth pinter". It searches and says "no printers were found" so i click "the printer that i want isn't listed". In the next dialog, i choose "select a shared printer by name", select the browse button, navigate to the system with the printer installed and select the printer. The correct printer share name is then displayed in the edit control and i click "next".

I get a message box with the caption "windows printer installation". The message says "connecting to hpdeskjet on nadpayne" on the first line and "looking for a driver" briefly on the second line before the message changes to "checking windows update. This might take a while. ". It continues for a little bit then displays a second message box with the caption "connect to printer" and the message "no driver found. Windows can't find a driver for hp deskjet 970c series on the network. To locate one manually, click ok. Otherwise, click cancel and consult your network administrator or the printer manufacturer's website. "

Is it possible to add this printer to my w7 64-bit system when it's shared out bya winxp 32-bit system? If yes, how?

Printer Does Not Work In One Of Laptops Using Home Network

I recently installed windows 7 on my three computers: a pc and two laptops. I use a hp psc 410 all-in-one-printer connected to the pc. However, it does not work in one of the laptops using a home network. The first laptop connects well with the printer through the network.

The second laptop does not as it keeps on asking to install a driver to connect to the printer. I clean-installed windows 7 on all three computers, so they should all behave the same. Any ideas or recommendations anyone?á
