Master Boot Record Corrupt After Reboot

So every time i reboot windows 7 ultimate it loads only to the loading screen and then stops. The only way to fix it is to put the dvd in the drive and use bootrec /fixmbr and then reboot and it loads as it should. I have tried rebuilding the file also using bootrec and the same thing happens as soon as i restart the mbr record is corrupt each time. This is a fresh build of windows 7 with a brand new fujitsu hard drive. I checked the hdd and its seems ok. The drive is sata drive running in compatible mode. Now i get no errors it just locks up at the loading screen and sits there forever. So it is really hard to diagnose what is going on.

Repeated Master Boot Record Corrupted

Had an old hd out in oct 2009. New hd was loaded with windows xp home ed. New hd was west. Digital 500g sataii 32mb 7200rpm. Switched to windows 7 pro in late dec. 2009.system ran fine until feb 10, 2010.

Tried start up repair and got message "start up repair cannot repair this computer automatically". Tried bootrec.exe tool options. No joy. Finally problem determined to be corrupt master boot record.

Had the oct west. Digital hd tested professionally by store where hd was purchased. 8 bad sectors. Dealer replaced hd with identical replacement under in-store warranty i had purchased. Hd was partitioned to separate windows 7 from other files. 50g allocated to windows 7

Re-installed windows 7 pro along with firefox, thunderbird, adbloc plus , adobe acrobat (latest version), ms security essentials and one game copyrighted in 2002. Btw, the game ran fine for years in xp.

1st feb hd lasted less than 1 week. Same messages. Same final diagnosis, master book record is corrupt. Went back to dealer. Had all components tested. Only bad actor was the 1st feb hd which had 2 bad sectors and 3 weak sectors. Dealer installed identical new west. Digital hd under continued warranty on feb 24. Nice of them to do that. Same software installed on 2nd feb hd. 2nd feb hd partitoned same as oct hd.

2nd feb hd lasted until feb 28. Same symptoms. Ran start up repair. Problems identified:

Problem signature 01: 0. 0. 0. 0
02:  0. 0. 0. 0
03:  unknown
04:  0
05:  unknown
06:  1
07:  unknown

Attempted re-install. Got license terms. Clicked custom installation. No partitions showing, no drives found.

Ran start up repair again. Windows cannot repair automatically.

Diagnosis and repair details:
Session details:
System disk =  blank
Windows directory =  blank
Autockru=  0
Number of root causes = 1

Test performed:
Check for updates
Result :  completed successfully  error code = 0x0

Test performed:
System disk test
Result:  completed successfully  error code = 0x0

Root case found:
A hard disk could not be found. If a hard disk is installed, it is not responding.

Ran bootrec /scanos - total identified windows installations: 0
Ran bootrec /fixboot - the system cannot find the path specified.
Ran /fixmbr - defaulted back to options listing with no results being displayed.

Why the f- do the brand new hd's keep corrupting repeatedly?  The statistical probability of there being manufacturing defects in 3 hd's built months apart are about the same as winning the power ball lottery.

The only installed game has an autosave feature that saves the game every 10 minutes.could an incompatibility between windows 7 and the old game be the problem?

Installing To Multiple Workstations With Master Image

We are a school district moving to windows 7 from an xp pro environment. As part of our deployment and support strategy we create master images (we use symantec ghost in our xp environment) that contain the os and all software relevant to the particular image. For example we may have a "lab 1" image which contains xp pro, office 2007 and photoshop (office 2007 and photoshop are both volume licenses).

With this, we simply take a machine, start with a fresh install of xp, install the apps, create an answer file which contains the special xp oem preservation registration key, run sysprep, pull the image then blast it out to the lab computers initially and again whenever hardware is replaced or the system is trashed (a fairly regular occurrence in a school environment). The mini-setup runs and all is well.

We have not been able to come up with a similar strategy in windows 7. Though we can build a master image, our concerns are with the activation portion. Since a typical workstation will get imaged 2-3 times in a given 12 month period we are concerned that the activation key is going to go bad. I know we can just call microsoft to have it reactivated but with 1000 workstations we would have to hire a full time employee just to make the phone calls. Surely there must be a better way!
This issue seems to be holding back a number of organizations from moving away from xp.

Not Able To Record Sound

Can't record sound in windows 7 even though sound applet says everything is working, i am trying to record sound in windows 7 64 bit. (Intel cor 2 quad, msi board, intel chipset, latest bios, 8 gb ram, audigy 4, latest drivers. ) According to the windows 7 software, everything should be working. Windows sound applet shows the microphone is creative sb audigy 4 which is the default device. Microphone properties show the device as working properly.

Yet, when i try to record with the mic, either in windows sound recorder or in audacity, nothing is recorded. If i switch the default recording device to "what you hear, " that doesn't work either. The windows trouble shooter couldn't identify the problem. The speakers work, windows notification sounds work, sound from dvd works. Can anyone help me get recording to work in windows 7?

Record Voicemails To Computer

I want to record some voice-mails from my at&t voice mailbox to my computer. I can do this using speaker-phone, computer's built-in mic and sound recorder, but i hope to achieve better sound quality. I tried plugging in a mono audio cable from the phone's headset jack to the computer's mic jack. I then put headphones into the computer's headphone jack so i could listen and know when to hit "record. " At first i couldn't hear through the headphones, so i instead plugged them into another phone and with both phones on, used the second one to play the vms.

Problems: nothing seems to have recorded. I play back the file and there's no sound. Ideas?

Record Using Line In With Dell Inspiron 1520

I am attempting to record through line in. I have opened up my recording devices menu, and i have two options: microphone and line-in. I have selected line-in as my default device, and it has the green check mark symbol, which i assume means that it is enabled and working. Despite this, however, the monitor level to the right of line-in does not respond to noises. Instead, i hear noise from the computer's built in microphone, the microphone monitoring level reacts to noise, and when i mute the microphone, it mutes everything.

Does the green check mark not mean that i am actually using the line-in?If it matters, i am running windows 7 ultimate on a dell inspiron 1520 with an onboard sigmatel sound-card. I understand that most people have had numerous problems with dells with sigmatel cards, but 7 seems to have fixed those problems, so i think this is a problem with the recording devices menu. Also, it appears that my drivers are up to date. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can set things up to record with line-in?

How To Record Tv With Media Center To Network Drive?

Well, you would think that windows 7's new mediacenter would be up to the task of recording your tv to a network share/drive. Too bad, it looks like it's just not possible. I have a windows 2008 r2 server, and a windows 7 machine with a tv card. Since my server has 2tb of storage, it would be nice to record directly to it's networked drive. (I mounted it as z:).

I tried the following:

Selecting it in media center itself: not working. Not available.

Editing the registry: hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrentversionmedia centerservicerecording , setting recordpath to z:tv . Not working.

Editing the registry: setting recordpath to servertv . Not working.

Creating a symlink (mklink d ) to z:tv and servertv and setting that in the registry as recordpath .

Currently i am out of options. I could of-course install windows7 on my server, but i have no license for that, and my windows 2008 r2 is free from dreamspark. So: how in the world is it possible to make this work? And why does mediacenter not just detect my mounted network share?

Media Center - Unable To Record Onto A Dvd Disk

I have windows 7 with media center edition. With the hauppauge #1600 tv digital tuner, i have successfully recorded tv programs using media center program. I desire to transfer some of the recorded programs onto dvd disks that can be played on a standard dvd player attached to a tv set. The steps i have followed are:

Under tasks, have selected burn dvd
Under disk format, have selected video dvd
Under select media, have selected recorded tv

Then i selected by highlighting the tv program that i desire to burn onto a dvd. Then after hitting next, i get error message "unsupported file type, one or more files selected is not a supported
File type and cannot be added to the list". I noticed that the format of the recorded tv program is . Wmt. This is not a format that can be used on a dvd player attached to a tv set. Should i attempt to convert the wmt format file to another file first? If so, which format should i convert to and do you have suggestions as to program that can make the conversion.

I was able to burn disks using windows media center on the computer when windows xp was installed, without having to do conversions and without problems. Any suggestions on what i can do to record onto a dvd disk that can be played in a standard dvd player?

Dual Boot Boot Problem After Resizing Win 7

Boot problem on dual boot after resizing windows 7 (32bit) switched from drive w: to drive g: i have a dual boot system that boots into win 7 (64) (c:drive) or win 7 (32) (w:drive). I needed to increase the size of win7 (64) drive and in order to do so i needed to move the win 7 (32) partition. Now i can still boot into win 7 (64) with no problem but when i boot into win 7 (32) it windows states that it is not a genuine copy and it is actually on drive "g:"! Anyway to change it back to "w:" because i believe this is the problem.

Dual Boot - Move Boot Image To Second Drive

I have a problem with two different drives both running win7, one 32 the other drive64, on a dual boot system. I want to pull the win32 drive, but it also has my boot information for the win64 drive. When removed it will not boot. I have been working on this for 5-6 weeks. I want to remove the win7/32 and put the boot image of win7/64 on the second drive.

I booted from the win764 install dvd, and went to there pair your computer. The placethat displays the operating systems installed, none will show. I have tried bootsect from the command prompt. It seems to work, but tells me no partition on the second drive. Or on another attribute used, it can not find the path to the drive. I have tried rebuild bcd, fixmbr, etc.

Boot Takes Minutes, Will Boot In Safe Mode

When i booted up this arvo, the computer took 15 minutes to get to the log in screen. Upon clicking the profile image, i had to wait another 5 minutes of unresponsiveness for even the desktop background to display. Rebooted 3-4 times, still happened, booted in safe mode, (which is how i'm writing this) and initially thought it was msmpeng.exe that was causing me issues, so i removed mse once i finally managed to get it going in normal mode. I thought the problem was fixed when i rebooted, and i had about 4-5 minutes of normal speeds before it slowed right down and became unresponsive.

When the computer is running, the actual computer itself sounds fine (hard disk is chattering away) but when going slow and unresponsive it only makes noises every 1-2 seconds, if that makes any sense, as if it's under a really heavy load. Hard to tell because i cant open anything. Ran a system restore, didn't do anything. I need help soon! I suspect a driver issue, but i'm just speculating. Specs: windows 7 home premium 64 bit 6gig ddr3 ram i7-860 cpu ati 5770 gpu

New Sata Boot Drive Wont Boot

I have a new 2t sata drive (seagate). It took about 5 days of research to finally get my computer to see it. I used seagate's disk wizard to clone my older drive (ide). The sata drive was supposed to become the c: drive. Disk management does label it as the c drive but in "computer" it sees it as f:i disconnected my older drive and when i booted up the bios kept looking for the ide drive. Although the motherboard has sata built in, there seems to be no way to tell the bios that i want the sata drive to be the primary boot drive.

Also with the original drive disconnected i get a "ntldr not found. Press control-alt-delete to restart. "I believe mybios is the problem. I have flashed it with the newest bios i could find, (dates from 2005) but no sata adjustments in the bios. How can i make the bios know that i want the sata drive to be the primary boot drive?

Or is there a way to trick the bios into thinking that it is an ide drive? As it is, the computer is recognizing the sata drive as a scsi drive. I read somewhere that this is not a problem. In summary, i want my system to boot from the sata drive. I would like to reformat the original drive.

Boot Problem - No Boot Device Found

Each time i start up the system the boot file cannot be found. I select the "repair start up" option and it completes it successfully with following detail: root cause found: the partition table does not have a valid system partition. Repair action: partition table repair.completion successfully. After this the system will start up. As mentioned, i have to do this at every start up, so i'm wondering why this partition table disappears when i shut down the desktop. I should mention that this problem started at the time i downloaded and installed the true image backup software.

The installation could not complete and one possible solution to the problem was to stop the antivirus program. At that moment i noticed that the avast antivirus was hanging and i was not able to kill the process. So i restarted the system, using f8 to get the safe start option so that i was able to uninstall the antivirus program. I then tried to install another antivirus application and when installation was almost finished got the message that it was unable to complete installation. I tried to install another backup solution (paragon), but also this one failed. On the other hand, i was able to install the firefox browser.

Drive Is Corrupt Cannot Access

I built myself a nice new i7 based system i7 920 mb , gigabyte ex58-ud3r x58 core i7. 6 gig of triple channel ram, i am running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. I currently have 6 hdd in my system 4x320 sata drives raid onto 2 640 units

1x 1t hdd
1x1t hdd external usb drive
Now i have had no issues with the raided 320 drives
I boot off one of the 640 raids

Now what keeps happening is any data that i place upon the internal 1t drive, after a couple of days some of it gets damaged, and then i will also get an error saying drive is corrupt cannot access. I know its not the drive since this is a new machine my first thought was faulty hdd, so it has been replaced, yet fault still happens. I am not sure what i can do to fix this problem or provide you with more information.

Install Disc Corrupt

I recently purchased an hp pavilion elite. It came with windows 7 home premium 64-bit. I wanted to scrap all the random stuff that hp puts on their computers, and i have a copy of windows 7 professional 64-bit anyways that i wanted to install.

So i booted from the disk, did a clean install, formatted the hd and hit continue like i have to done with clean installs with this same disc successfully 2 other times. It moved to the next screen, copied all the files to 100%, and "moved on to expanding windows files". Then it just sat at 0% for about 15 minutes, until giving me this error:

"Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart installation. Error code:0x80070017"

Does this mean there is something wrong with this disk? I was thinking of just going out and buying a new copy of windows 7, but i wanted to know that there wasn't another option.

Corrupt .net Framework Versions

I am experiencing strange program behavior which i suspect may be related to corrupted versions of .net framework. All versions of .net framework have at one time or another come onto my computer via windows update. 3. 5 appeared to install correctly, but i have aberrant program behavior, the rough history of which is as follows:

  - Memeo backup stopped functioning.
  - Memeo engineer diagnosed this problem as related to a corrupt .net framework 2. 0.
  - He used a utility to remove 2. 0, it was then reinstalled.
  - This initially appeared to solve the problem, but then other programs began failing. Examples are: adobe reader (now reinstalled via firefox); some aspect of internet explorer which is needed on the adobe reader download page; my photo transfer package nikon transfer (now mysteriously working again); general slow performance; my e-mail program eudora - intermittent failings.

  - Ms windows update helpdesk advised me to uninstall (via utility) 3. 5 and then reinstall it. I did this, but the only noticeable result is that memeo backup is now failing again.

  - I just ran windows update again, it downloaded and installed another security update, no error messages generated.

I am now asking  if the following course of action seems reasonable:

1) uninstall memeo backup (which is currently just generating a "failed to run" message at startup)
2) use the utility which you sent me to uninstall all versions of .net framework.

3) visit windows update to see if that will reinstall all versions of .net framework in the correct order.
4) reinstall memeo backup

But before i do this, i would like to know.

A) would it be better to just try uninstalling 2. 0 3. 0 and 3. 5 first?

B) the memeo engineer was able to tell me that 2. 0 was corrupted by asking these questions about the registry:

3. Please check a registry key for me, please do not modify or delete any keys in the registry. To access the registry, please see the instructions below:

1. Click on start.
2  click on run (for vista it's the start search box).
3. Type regedit and press enter on your keyboard.
4. Navigate to hkey_local_machinesoftware.

5. Let me know if there is a memeo key in the software folder and if you can access the contents of the memeo folder. From my reply to that he was able to diagnose the problem. Is there any similar way that one can diagnose whether or not other versions of .net frameworks are corrupted?

.net Framework 3.5 Corrupt Software

Microsoft updates done by me manually. "These updates failed to install:  update to .net framework 3. 5 service pack 1 for the .net framework assistant 1. 0 x86 (kb963707)" reading all the .net complaints on this forum gives me one gigantic headache. First of all, these .net frameworks seem to be a necessity in order to view/surf the web. I never did anything to alter my .net frame work, and actually didn't even know it existed until one day, i started getting errors along with my ms automatic updates. Would this not indicate that ms has created software that has a flaw in it?  Seeing as how i never did a thing in the world to alter this function in my pc.

Disgusted that the expectation is that we consumers need to clean up ms' corrupted software. I think a more appropriate expectation would be that ms needs to fix their own corrupted software, and while your at it, have an auto-update tool that fixes it for us at the same time security updates are downloaded. I don't have the time or patience to fix problems like this that i had no part in creating. If you have an ms representative in my community, i would like them to come out and see my pc and fix this for me.

I have continually tried to use all of the steps advised, to no avail. They all fail. Something needs to be done about this, otherwise this is the equivalent of fringing on being reported to the bbb in regards to offering a reasonable solution to a problem that exists with ms products not delivering the intended service to the consumer. Not only is the software corrupt, but it uses a ton of memory and has degraded the functions of everyday use of my pc.

Error 1335 - File Corrupt

I recently installed windows 7 on my new custom built machine about a week ago. I came across a problem when i tried to install a game [crysis] the error occurred when the installation began to copy the files and install the game. This particular game is using . Cab files to install the software. I receive an error at the beginning of the installation, "error 1335 - file . Is corrupt etc. The file is there and working. I tried to install other software such as photoshop and various other games. Fter searching the net i believe the problem is directed at the windows installer.

Another solution i have found is that it could be down to the ram. I ran a memory diagnostic which did find a problem. I wish to know whether there is an actual solution to fix the problem or if i will have to buy another ram. Methods i have tried;

1. Using msiexec /unregister and a couple other commands but am unsure if they did anything. 2. Tried to install the software off the hard drive 3. Ran a registry cleaner, disk clean up and defrag. They are the methods i can remember off the top of my head. Ny guidance or possible fixes would be greatly appreciated.

Unable To Download File Is Corrupt

I am having problems downloading any kind of update for my laptop. The updates i am talking about are for windows, norton, etc. I am not a crazy downloader. It will start the update and then a message will pop up saying the update was unable to be completed because files are corrupt. The techs at norton were finally able to get the updates to take but they  had to have publisher had to show up as unknown. In addition to that from time to time the webpages will obscure and all mixed up. Any clue on how to fix this?I hope this makes sense, my husband is the one that handles all the computer issues and he is deployed so i am doing my best.

Temporary Corrupt Toolbars And Icons

I recently upgraded from vista to windows 7. Lately when i launch an office product 2007 (outlook, excel) the toolbars become corrupt. If i mouse over the toolbar it clears up. When i close down the applications and go  back to my desktop, sometimes the icons on the desktop will corrupt. If i right click on the desktop and choose refresh, the icons clear up again. This issue does not occur when using ie or when i am viewing an actual digital picture. The issue only occurs in the toolbars. Is there a repair function or an faq that addresses this nuisance issue?
