Disconnected Network Drive

I run win 7 prof at work on my machine that is connected to the internal network and to ms small business server 2003 r2. Recently i installed windows virtual xp mode (exactly as suggested by ms) and have had nothing but trouble ever since - which is slowly getting even worse. Current dilemma (after uninstalling xp mode and virtual stuff) is that having extended my boot system partition (i think i regret this) i have lost all connection to our smb 2003 server.

I have the famous red x over the previously mapped drive/s and get the report that they are disconnected (and "an error occurred - path not found") when i click either of them. I'm nearly out of venom now, preferring to just fix it with a handy ms tool or get some detailed advice (so often missing from the win 7 help let alone smb 2003) on what might be happening. N. B. The server also reports that the path is no good when i query it at its own keyboard about the user "yours truly".

Disconnected Network Drive Error Occurred While Reconnecting

"an error occurred while reconnecting x: to \companyserversharefolderusersjones microsoft windows network: the local device name is already in use. This connection has not been restored.

This is the exact error i get, on a windows 7 client workstation, operating in a domain environment with windows server 2003 domain controllers. Reconnection of assigned user drives is scripted, and is run on upon logging in. Windows xp client computers do not have this problem. Since the scripted-in-group-policy drives disconnect after a short while, i've created mapped drives to solved the problem. No good; they all still disconnect after a short while and the user gets a red x over the network drive.

Network Indicator Disconnected

I have a windows 7 enterprise installed on my corporate laptop (t61 lenovo). A few days ago something happened to my network indicator. In turned offline (screen with x on it). The thing is that i'm still connected to the internet and working as usual. It happens with wireless or wired connections.

No system restore so i can't go back to whatever was before. Tried to uninstall the network adapters (both wire and wireless) and let windows reinstall them but with no luck. Tried to install new drivers - no go.

Tried all sorts of network cache cleaning , windows troubleshooter (to him everything is ok). My conclusion is that it looks like some kind of graphical bug because my networking works great (even in the network and sharing center it looks ok). What could be the cause for this weired bug?

Re-enabling Microphone - Show Disconnected Devices

If you don't know already know. In the sound module in windows 7 there is a feature in properties to disconnect the device using the device usage drop-down menu in the general tab. I have been scouring the internet for days to try and find a solution for re-enableing my microphone. I finally found the solution purely by accident when i right clicked in the empty space where my mic was once displayed. I clicked on the option to "show disconnected devices" whola 2 devices popped up. All i had to do was go back to properties and re-connect them.

Question is:
Why have microsoft set this option to hide them by default?

Why have this feature in the first place?

Network Drive

I have a home network with 3 computers running windows xp, a linksys router, and an older western digital my book world hooked to the router. Everything has been working perfectly for about a year. When i added a new computer running windows 7 (64-bit), i can access the my book world from the new computer using windows explorer. However, after some time (usually less than 20 minutes), the my book world freezes and won't respond to any of the computers. I realize that windows 7 is not supported on this drive. I am hoping to discover what to shut off in windows 7 to keep it from freezing the drive.

Backup Does Not Allow Backups To Network Drive

Win 7 home premium backup does not allow backups to a network drive but it will allow a restore from network drive. Vista home premium allowed backup and restore to a network drive. I assumed win 7 home premium would have the same capability - wrong. Win 7 allows you to restore from a network drive - so how can you restore if you can't backup there? I thought the win 7 restore capability may have been included for previous versions of backup but it doesn't recognize my old vista premium backups.

Problems Mapping Network Drive

So i have a client who recently bought a newly preinstalled 64-bit windows 7 laptop. We migrated his data over to the new laptop, but he requested that he be able to map a drive on his xp home desktop from his windows 7 laptop. So in simpler terms, he wants to access a partition on his windows 7 machine from his xp desktop.

So what i did was turn on network discovery and disable password protection for his network on the 7 machine. I then shared the partition he wants to access on the 7 machine giving full control to "everyone" group. I then went over to the xp desktop and went to map the drive like you normally do. Opened up the map network drive feature in xp and then browsed for the folder. The 7 machine would show up in the workgroup network, but after clicking it, the hourglass would show up and no folders being shared would show up.

I then just inputted the path of the partition something like "greg-pcdata". A prompt then popped up and so i used the 7 user account credentials and then i received a "access denied" error. After hours of frustration, i gave up. I picked it up again the following day and then when i got to the point of inputting the drive path, i got a different error saying something like "must close existing connections. Cannot have multiple connections". Something like that. I can't remember the whole message since it was pretty long.

Anyways, this where i'm at and i've attempted a couple reboots as well as checking all permissions and creating a new user account on the 7 machine to log on as that user and i've also tried disabling the firewalls all with no luck. Please help out with any advice or tips.

Saving To Network Drive From Ie8

A client system (xp sp3, novell network, non-admin account) here is having issues saving documents from within ie8 to her assigned network drive. (I know more technical details for the network/setup may be warranted but for now i'm hoping someone has seen this or knows a fix based on this basic info).

None of her mapped network drives show up as possible save locations from within the ie8 "save as" dialogue. Her drives are  working fine otherwise; she can read, write, delete, etc. To them from windows explorer and other programs. There doesn't seem to be any further permission issues or drive mapping issues.

In this particular case, the file she wants saved is a pdf. Adobe acrobat is installed and works fine otherwise for viewing, saving pdf docs. The scholastic program she uses insists on launching the pdf from within ie8 when it generates reports for print/view.

Here's what else i know so far: when adobe is launched independently of ie, all of the network drives are available to save to. No issues here. This saving issue applies to all file types, not just pdfs (i tested with an mp3 file too). The pdf issue is just here at the forefront because of its tie-in with ie and the scholastic program that forces ie to handle the pdf.

Is seems to be an issue specific to this user's account permissions and ie8 only. - I installed firefox for testing purposes and from there i can save pdf and mp3 files to all network shares.
There are no settings within the scholastic software to tell it not to launch ie for it's pdf export feature. Even with firefox installed and set as default browser, it spawns an ie window. (Seriously, why would someone program that way?)

I have tried setting the url for the generated pdf to the "intranet zone" type in the security settings of ie. No change. I have confirmed that, as the domain admin, i can saved to these locations from within ie, again: the issue seems account and ie specific.

Clearly there are some work-arounds, but i'm looking for a solution and maybe a explanation to this behavior. A group policy issue? An ie issue? Both?

Gpo Network Drive Issue

I'm having problems connecting to our network shares at our office. All the xp machines work fine, but our 7 machines do not. I see this question asked here: http://social. Answers.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/w7network/thread/a86e6ddd-17f9-4eb9-b8d0-3756ecf2f00c/#c93f8aba-c6b8-437e-a735-5cbaa31117fdi could not locate the answer provided in that thread. I also found some research on editing secpol. Msc to accept more/different lan settings, but while i can open it, i cannot change the value. I've tried all kinds of troubleshooting-including wmi filters in active directory. Help?

Problem With Mapping Network Drive

I'm using a windows 7 professional now and i've found some problems with mapping network drives.

I'm using a network in my office and i tried to map a network drive from another computer in the office. I could do it when i was using vista, since i know the address and password of that drive, but when i change my os to 7, it is not the same any more. I typed in the address, a window called 'windows security' popes up, asking me to enter a username and password to continue.

First of all, i've no idea what should be the username, since i didn't need to type that in vista.

Second, i tried the password i used in vista, which is the password of that drive, it always says wrong password. Can anyone tell me what to do to solve this problem? I really need the network drive very much!

Restoring Backup To A Network Drive

Is it possible to restore a backup to a network drive? I created a backup of my win7 rc to a mapped nas. I'd like to restore the backup to a folder on the nas to verify the contents of the backup before installing the full retail version. I would also like to be able to hand pick what files i copy from the nas to the new install. When i chose to restore the backup to a different location, the restore button is greyed out when selecting a folder on the w: mapped network drive. I can only click the restore button if select a location on the c: drive.

Can't Access C Drive On A Network

I have set up networking on my two windows 7 computers and one windows xp computer. I have selected to share the c drive on all three machines but when i attempt to access the c drive of my windows 7 pcs from another network pc be it the xp or the win 7 pc i get a message saying i don't have privileges to access this folder. What do i need to change in my win 7 network setup to access this directory from my other computers?

Fyi, i can see and access the windows xp c drive from both win 7 computers. If i share individual folders in the root drive i can share them but that means i have to select every folder i want to share. Xp worked great with network sharing, win 7 not so great. I do like, no love everything else about windows 7. One great operating system.

Win7 Will Not Map Or Access Network Drive

Windows 7 64 bit will not map or access network drive on network when connecting wifi. On copper it works fine. Windows 7 32 bit works fine on the same wireless network. I have two notebook computers. Both run windows 7. One 32 bit, one 64 bit. The network is a belkinn+ wireless router with one switch downstream. I have a wd mybook world 2 network drive on the network and connected to the switch.

When either computer is connected via copper the drive is accessible. When the 32bit computer is connected via wifi the drive is also accessible. When the 64bit computer is connected wirelessly, the drive is not accessible. It used to work. Something changed in the last few weeks and i don't know what. I think all i have done is installed microsoft updates.

Drive Is Not Accessible - Permission To Use Network Resource

I have done a clean win 7 64 bit install on c drive on my pc that used to be xp. The hard drive has two partitions c drive and d drive. The win 7 pc also has two other hard drives installed each with a single partition (e drive and v drive). The hard drives are not raid configured. The e and v drives were not involved in the win7 installation and therefore still have their xp configuration.
Prior to installing win 7 all partitions on all hard drives on the pc were accessible on the three other xp machines on my "workgroup" home network.

On the win7 machine i can access all drives on all of the xp machines. On any of the xp machines i can access the e and v drives on the win7 machine. When i try to access the win7 c drive or d drive from any of the xp machines i get:

"Pcpc (x) drive is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource" where (x) is either c or d depending on what drive was accessed.

I have tried un-sharing and re-sharing the c and d drive. I have also compared the property settings between the c and d drives that i can't access with the e and v drives that are accessible. Those setting are the same. Please advise any thoughts on what can be done to render my c and d drives accessible on my network xp pcs.

Adding A Network Drive To Library In Win7

Adding a network drive to the library in win7, or adding media to the library from a nas. I have a nas drive (linkstation) that has all my docs, movies, pics on etc.

I used to change the location in vista of the default movies, pics and docs folders so if anyone wanted quick access from within win-explorer to these files they could click the locations under the usher profile. In win7 we now have libraries, i want to add my files to the libraries so users have access to docs etc quickly without having to navigate to the docs etc.

However if i try and add a folder to the library it tells me its not indexed and then if i try and add it to the index i don't have the network drives as an option. Is there a way in win7 to add remote repositories of data to the libraries?

Cannot Add Files On Mapped Network Drive

I am attempting to connect to my server via explorer, yet mapping a network drive isn't working correctly for me. I can delete files/directories just fine, although i am unable to upload any files. The error message i receive is: an error occurred opening the folder on the ftp server. Make sure you have permission to access this folder.

Details: the handle is invalid. There should not be an issue with permissions as i can connect via command prompt without problem, and i can delete files/directories so i should have write permissions. I have never experienced this issue with vista before, and the tech support on my host has no idea either. I'm running windows 7 x64, build 7100. I'll upload a dxdiag if more information is required.

Trouble Mapping Network Drive With Win7

I bought a new work computer today. It's an hp pavilion slimline s5220f. Runs windows 7. All of our other work computers run windows xp. We have an external hard drive that acts as a shared file for the organization. (We are a small nonprofit and fairly low-tech. )

I'm having problems connecting our "shared drive" - the "s" drive - where all of our work shared files are kept. I've connected to it a hundred times on other computers, but can't seem to get it right with windows 7. What i usually do is right click on the "my computer" icon and click "map network drive. " Then i put in "filecabinetshared" and it asks for a log on and password. I've checked the log on and password - all correct. When i enter the log on and password, i get a message saying that "the specified network password is not correct. "

I've spoken with two different people at hp. Nothing worked. I really need access to these shared files in order to work.

How To Record Tv With Media Center To Network Drive?

Well, you would think that windows 7's new mediacenter would be up to the task of recording your tv to a network share/drive. Too bad, it looks like it's just not possible. I have a windows 2008 r2 server, and a windows 7 machine with a tv card. Since my server has 2tb of storage, it would be nice to record directly to it's networked drive. (I mounted it as z:).

I tried the following:

Selecting it in media center itself: not working. Not available.

Editing the registry: hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrentversionmedia centerservicerecording , setting recordpath to z:tv . Not working.

Editing the registry: setting recordpath to servertv . Not working.

Creating a symlink (mklink d ) to z:tv and servertv and setting that in the registry as recordpath .

Currently i am out of options. I could of-course install windows7 on my server, but i have no license for that, and my windows 2008 r2 is free from dreamspark. So: how in the world is it possible to make this work? And why does mediacenter not just detect my mounted network share?

Backup Create System Image On External / Network Drive

I am running windows 7 home premium 64bit and i have 2 internal hdds plus a networked windows home server. When i go to backup and select create system image i am only shown the option of backing up the system drive (c drive) and not the other hdd (d drive). And as destination for the backup of the system drive i am presented with no option other than the d drive. I am not shown the option of an external drive or the whs network drive. Apparently the option of an external or network drive should be available as long as they are ntfs formatted.could it be that these options are not available for the home premium edition?

Entering Unc Path For Using Restrospect Express Hd With Network Drive

How to i do the following? Are they talking about the f drive which by portable hard drive goes to or the c drive. Csharedirectory

Using retrospect express hd with a network drive

Previous versions of retrospect express hd required you to first map a network-attached drive or volume as a drive letter in my computer before you could use it as a backup destination. This older method has several drawbacks and is not ideal for connecting to network storage.

Retrospect express hd now employs universal naming convention (unc) to access storage resources on the network. A unc path looks like this: devicenamesharedirectory. As long as you know a network storage resource's login/password combination and its unc path (or can browse to it), then you can use it as a destination for retrospect express hd backups and copies.

To select network-attached storage as a backup or copy destination: on the "select the disk(s) to store your backups" screen, click the "click here to add a network attached drive" link.

Enter the unc path to the desired storage device or click the browse button to locate it on the network.

Enter your login and password for this storage device and click ok.

Place a checkmark next to the network-attached drive name and click next.

Finish configuring your backups normally.

Mapping Network Drives On A Home Network Issue

I have two pc on my home network, one is a desktop running window 2000, attached to this is an external hard drive. The second is a laptop running windows 7. Before i upgraded to windows 7 i was running window vista on the laptop. When i had window vista on my laptop i was able to map a network drive to both the desktop's hard-drive and also to the external hard drive attached to the desktop.

After upgrading to windows 7 when i try to access the desktop or map the external hard drive i'm asked for a domain password. When i enter the user id and password of the desktop i keep getting the request for my domain password. I don't remember setting up a domain password at the time of the windows 7 upgrade.
