Downgrade To Vista

I have asked my question about classics mode in the other list. Since then i  have come to realize there will be no speedy fix for my issue. It is becoming  fairly obvious to me that there was not a lot of input from end users on the functionality of windows 7 prior to its launch. So frankly since vista does work for what i love to do in my leisure time please supply me with a link to downgrade to vista. I will say if i have to pay for vista, all of my computers in the future will not be running a microsoft operating system. (You don't even want to hear what happened to the third replacement xbox while it was still covered under warranty).

Downgrade Win 7 Rc To Vista

I have an acer upgrade disc but it says i need to uninstall my rc and get back to vista in order to install properly. I have been searching for over half an hour and can't find an answer. On the microsoft site it said to find a windows. Old folder but i think i might have deleted it, in which case i should reinstall vista using the disc. However, my computer came pre - installed with vista so i don't have said disc. I have backed up my data and made an "easy transfer file" on a separate hard disc so the only problem is how to downgrade - help please?

Downgrade To Vista For Running Avid Media Composer

I have heard that if you buy windows 7 ultimate 64 bit that you have the ability to downgrade it to windows vista ultimate 64 bit until such time as you would like to switch back and use windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. It would be helpful for me because i run avid media composer and it is only approved to run on vista ultimate 64 bit at the moment. So if this were true then it would save me buying vista and i could just buy windows 7 until avid approved windows 7 for running avid media composer. I really need an official answer to this question.

Downgrade To Office 2003

I still have 2003 office and professional software, i bought a new computer hp (my old one died - toshiba w/xp). It came with windows 7 home premium. Not knowing, i installed my 2003 office, but it didn't take the professional. Now it is not compatible with software and or hardware, now what. I don't have the money to upgrade everything, i just want my new computer to work. Now i can not open pdfs even though i installed my adobe professional 8. & Reader.

I am starting to immediately not like windows 7 and i want out! I have my disk to make my computer work with 2003 office professional but not with windows 7 installed. I can't use my hp printer that is working great with my other xp computer going through apple airport express as a print server so i don't want to change everything for windows 7.

What are my options that won't cost me any money. I do not want to pay to upgrade to windows 7 professional so i can download something else to make my other things work.

Here are some items that pop up: adobe acrobat: cannot use adobe reader to view pdf in your web browser. Reader will now exit. Please exit your browser and try again.
Microsoft office xp professional: the feature you are trying to use is on a cd-rom or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the microsoft office xp professional disk and click ok, and when i do, it basically says it won't except because there is a higher version.

Also pops up: the office assistant requires microsoft agent 2. 0 or later. This product is available on the office system pack.

How To Downgrade Win 7 Back To Xp Pro?

I think win 7 is a more stupider version than vista. I want to downgrade back to my xp pro. I just bought my dell laptop less than 30 days and i have an equivalent dose of 60-days headache. Most zip file cannot open. All exe. File cannot open and many icons that is user-friendly in xp are gone. Why are u guys punishing us like that? Sure, i can go google for solutions but do we want to do that everytime some nightmare like that crops up while we're doing our work. Half way got to go google for solutions. I mean c'mon and what's more frustrating is still a lot of downloads or softwares, paid and free (esp) still don't quite accomodate win 7 platform that's why i keep getting error message / file cannot open (as mentioned above). Pls tell me can i get my downgrade back from microsoft? I believed i read in some publications u guys do allow downgrading for win 7 (sorry forgot to bookmark coz at that time i'm still wth xp pro so don't see the need to).

Xp To Vista To 7 Or Xp To 7?

My hard drive just crashed. Dell is sending me a new one. When i reinstall my os i can either use the xp or vista cd's. I bought a vista laptop with an xp downgrade.system meets specs for windows 7. Would like to switch to 7. Is my best strategy to install vista and then buy a windows 7 upgrade and install it? I have all the drivers and other items that were on my laptop on reinstall disks. Think that i should put them back into its native environment and then upgrade to 7. Make sense? Also, i think the 7 upgrade is cheaper than the outright program.

Upgrade From Vista

I just ran the windows 7 upgrade advisor beta and it says this : you can do an in-place upgrade to the 32 bit windows 7 home premium or ultimate. If you choose to upgrade to a different edition you will need to preform a clean installation. Does this mean i could not do a in-place install to windows 7 professional 32-bit ? And why cant i ? Is there anyway i can? I would like to find a way since my school is part of the msdnaa and windows 7 professional is available for free to me as a student. Please don't be to technical in any replies, i am only a little above an average computer user.

Back To Vista

I installed win 7 upgrade over windows vista. But unfortunately not very well. All programs are gone, but i still have the "windows. Old" folder and now i want to get back to vista. I've found the following instruction: , but when i type in the command "move /y. " After pressing the enter button, it says "access is denied" and i do not know why.

How can i get full access for it? The net admin is active, but that shouldn't influence the commands because i start the "repair-program" from the dvd.

Upgrading From Vista To 7 Then 7 Again

I received a discounted copy of windows 7 32-bit through my university. I over-installed it over my existing copy of vista home premium 32-bit. This did not require a key to activate, which is nice as the copy i received does not come with a product key!  But now i've purchased a ram and a hdd upgrade, and am going to upgrade to windows 7 64-bit. Again, it does not come with a product key, so, will my product key for vista home premium 32-bit (came with laptop) work for upgrading to windows 7 64-bit?

Upgrade From Vista Getting Stuck At 87%

Windows 7 home premium (x32) upgrade from vista hp (x32) is consistently getting stuck at 87% in the "gathering files, settings, and programs" stage. The compatibility tool indicates no conflicts. I've uninstalled virus protection, tv tonic, itunes, and logitech quickcam (as previously indicated by the compatibility tester. ) It does say i should download an updated realtek rtl8187 wireless driver to install *after* win 7 is installed.

I've left it running up to 14 hours, stops at the same place (87%) every time. (Though the file count is different everytime, so the actual absolute number varies. (e.g. This time it's 503490 of 592438. ) C:windowssetupact. Log hasn't been written to since the install first began, and indicates no errors. Setuperr. Log is empty. Any ideas?

How To Use Sticky Notes From Vista ?

While i think the sticky notes in windows 7 are 'cute', they're not nearly as functional as the sticky notes in vista were. For instance, i have over 1800 sticky notes on my vista machine that i keep because they are auto time and date stamped. I write directly onto the notes using my tablet, and keep them instead of keeping a pad and pen at my desk. Now, however, i open sticky notes and 1) nothing is date stamped and 2) i can't keep 1800 notes on my desktop visible at all times.

Is there some way to install the "old" sticky notes (the one where you could even record a verbal note or write on it with a pen) from windows vista onto windows 7?

Using Vista Drivers With Win 7

I installed windows 7 rc and the drivers that were on the machine worked fine. However, i am hosting a windows 7 launch party and received a signature copy of windows 7 ultimate. When i tried to install the promo os i had to do a clean install which wiped out the drivers. I contacted the manufacturer (hp) who are apparently not going to provide updated drivers for my machine (which is only 2 years old) for windows 7. When i contacted their support people i was told to use the drivers for vista, but when i try to install the drivers i am told that my os is not vista and the install terminates. So, is there any way for me to fool the software into thinking i am actually running vista?

Ok To Use Vista Video Driver?

I just did a clean install of win7 h. P. 64 bit on my dell 531s. The dell originally came with vista h. P. 32 bit. Win7 install went without any issues. Can i use vista video drivers with win7? The computer has onboard nvidia geforce 6150se nforce 430 video directx 9. 0 shader model 3. 0 graphics processing unit. Got that information from the sheet that came with the computer. I do have the original dell 531s driver and utilities dvd for "reinstalling dell insipron 531s computer software". Can i use this disc for the video drivers? I went to dell support page and using my service tag number, this particular nvidia driver is not listed.

Vista To Win7 Upgrade

Last year i purchased a pc with vista home premium 64-bit installed by the manufacturer, no os disk included in the box. I want to upgrade to windows 7 professional 64-bit. I am looking to purchase an oem copy from a local retailer. It doesn't seem financially necessary for me to pay $70 more for the cardboard, plastic and extra paper that retail version includes. I do understand that an oem copy can only be installed on one pc, however, this is not a concern to me. My only concern is if i can successfully install the oem software onto my system.

Vista Games Explorer

My games explorer on vista home premium 32 bit loads up slow. I open it up and it takes between 30 seconds to a minute before it loads in. In this time the laptop seems to hang till it loads. Does anyone know why or how to fix? I think it's a problem other people have had looking around the net on forums but no solutions i have found as yet. Once opened up subsequent openings tend to respond quickly until the next re-boot! Although it can recur in the same boot session if i do quite a bit of stuff such as play a few games and then try and relaunch the games explorer. Can't understand why it's so slow to open. It wasn't always like this!

I had the same issue on another computer running vista so it seems to be common.

Downgrading Back To Vista

A while back i used my copy of windows 7 home premium upgrade on my mother's computer. In retrospect i should have looked into how many different computers i could install onto but i had heard so many things that i was under the belief it was two instead of one. Months later my mother calls me to inform me that her windows is no longer working and the cd-key i gave her is no good. Her computer came with vista pre-installed and i don't have a disk available for her. The key for it is still located on a sticker but i'm not sure if there is a way to downgrade without the vista disk. She needs this computer for work and bills so it would be much appreciated to receive a speedy answer.

Clean Install From Vista To 7

I've upgraded my vista to win7 using the upgrade dvd i've got from hp. Today, i restored it to vista because i was not happy with the performance. I heard that clean install is better than upgrading, so can anyone please tell me if it is possible with just an upgrade dvd of win7? Also, will i be able to have the hp programs after the clean install?

I've also read several threads on errors while installing and product key errors. How likely that this will happen to me? "Windows. Old folder" can i just erase this folder after the installation? Lastly, will i still be able to factory default my os and have it back to vista if i'm still not happy with win7?

Reinstall Vista Ultimate

Because win 7 is computer specific, i can't run it on my laptop and desktop both (i only could afford and bought one copy). I installed it on both because the initial upgrade on my desktop didn't work (monitor problems). It is now working on the desktop, but i'll have to go back to win vista ult on my laptop (because of license req. When i register the desktop copy). How can i reinstall win vista ult on my desktop without losing everything (doing a custom install; can't do an upgrade)?

Upgrading To Win7 From Vista

I bought windows 7 and tried to upgrade from vista premium. It would not let me upgrade so i did the other option which i think installed the whole version. When i went to start up my computer after it was all done i had to choose between windows 7 and vista to boot up. Now i have no space on my computer every 5 minutes a little box pops up and says low recovery space and i need to uninstall programs. I want to uninstall vista but cant figure out how. I don't have the disk that it was installed with or the product key anymore so im not sure what to do any information would be great

I cannot get my product key. Its a long story but there is no way i can get it even doing all the things you suggest. Is there anyway to get vista off my computer with out the product key? I just want it gone i don't need to save anything off it or anything just uninstall it.

Trouble Sharing With Xp And Vista

I have followed every tutorial imaginable on how to set up windows 7 to share files with windows vista, or windows xp, for that matter.

Currently, my windows xp computer can see neither the windows 7 or the windows vista computer. If i click "view workgroup computers" i get an error that says "workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use the network the administrator of the server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found. ".

The vista and windows 7 computers can see one another, however, cannot access any of the folders that are set to shared on the network. Both of them spit back errors of network path not found. The folders are set to shared for "everyone" with "full access, " and even still cannot access the appropriate folders.

My windows 7 desktop can easily view the shared -drives- set up on windows xp, and has full write access, as it should. Why is getting a feature like this such a pain in windows vista or windows 7? I mean i'm all for greater network security, but network impossibility is not the solution.

Is there a way to get all three of these computers to communicate amicably? All of my advanced sharing settings on both windows 7 and windows vista are set up according to the tutorials. I even have windows firewall off. What am i missing so that i can simply share files between the three computers?

Free Upgrade From Vista

I bought a new dell laptop with vista installation disks with the promise from that i get a free upgrade to windows 7 when it was released. Now that windows 7 is released i would like to upgrade because my desktop program keeps breaking and my 3 month computer is being slowed to a crawl which is completely unacceptable . Theres so much clutter on the website that id sit here ours trying to find the upgrade link. So please if someone could go about explaining where this link is, i would be very much appreciated since i really don't have to go on and chew them out on their lies.

The whole reason why i didn't decide to pay the extra $150 to go to my favorite os, windows xp, is because of the hope to going to windows 7. The computer is the new studio 1555 so dont try to tell me that it was not out when the windows 7 free upgrade from vista was being incorporated into new laptops.

Vista Refusing To Upgrade

I just spent 28 hours downloading my student copy of windows 7 from microsoft it's not cheating (i'm also getting a dvd version in the mail in a couple of weeks but couldn't wait)

Now when it comes to installing, it will not let me upgrade from vista home premium to windows 7, despite the fact that the upgrade advisor said i can upgrade. It gave me the option but then said i cannot and need to do a clean installation.

I don't understand? I cannot do a clean installation either until my dvd arrives and would prefer  to do the upgrade instead.

Windows vista home premium cannot be upgraded to windows 7 professional. You can choose to install a new copy of windows 7 professional instead, but this is different from an upgrade, and does not keep your files, settings, and programs. You’ll need to reinstall any programs using the original installation discs or files. To save your files before installing windows, back them up to an external location such as a cd, dvd, or external hard drive. To install a new copy of windows 7 professional, click the back button in the upper left-hand corner, and select "custom (advanced)".
