This Installation Disc Isn't Compatible With Your Version Of Windows

I'm having a problem installing windows 7 64-bit. I had windows xp 32-bit, but then i "upgraded" to windows vista 64-bit. After i did that, i realized that i hated it, so i went back to 32-bit xp. Now when i try to install windows 7 i get the message "this installation disc isn't compatible with your version of windows. To upgrade, you need the correct installation disc. For more information, check your computer's system information. To install a new copy of windows, restart(boot) your computer using the installation disc, and then select custom(advanced). I have run 64-bit before, and my computer is capable of running 64-bit windows. The disc i have is from the it office at my school.

Fresh Windows 7 Installation Files Will Not Install On Disk 0

We have a dell laptop 6500 with two solid state disks, which have not been formated, show only unallocated space. When do a fresh installation from cd (win 7 64-bit), then a 100 mb boot partition is created on disk 0 and the windows files are installed on disk 1.

So the results look like this:
Disk 0: 100 mb boot partition 256 gb unallocated space
Disk 1: drive c: 0 gb unallocated space.

Whats going on here why are the windows files not installed on disk 0.

Now the laptop says it is connected to the internet but when we try to access anything via the web it says "internet explorer cannot display the webpage. When i click "diagnose connection problems" it says "dns server isnt responding. " This is getting very frustrating!

Moving Data From 1st Disk To 2nd Disk

I installed my w7 on a single disk pc then i added a second disk for data. I want to have all my data (documents, photos, music, etc. ) In this second disk. In xp, when i did so, i copy my documents from "documents and settings" folder to the new location (d:/) and i was done. Now in w7 i open the "user" folder i found that files are not on a single folder but that there are several document folders (images, documents, etc. ) And settings folders (favorites, etc. ). May i copy all the user folder to the new location or i must leave there some of them in c:/system/users? In xp, when i move my documents to d:, every thing was redirected there (default1 saving folder, default download folder, defautl music folder, etc. ) In w7, would happen the same? The link on the desktop will redirect me to the location or may continue pointing the old one.

Disk Read Error And Recovery Disk Not Working

I have a toshiba satellite c650 that has recently come up with a disk read error. I want to access the command prompt to try some potential solutions that i have read about on the internet. I have made a windows 7 recovery disk using my other acer laptop which also has windows 7 installed. When i use the recovery disk and it has loaded the files etc it just brings up a black screen and the cursor. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? I tried booting my acer laptop from the recovery disk and it worked fine. Also does anyone have any suggestions as to why i am getting the 'disk read error - hit ctrl, alt and delete to restart' message?

Student Discount Still Available?

I have decided that i need to upgrade my win xp sp3 machine to win 7 ultimate home version. I'm also toying with going to the 64 bit professional as well. Many of my school classes are at least vista based now. So it would be beneficial to become win 7 savvy. I also like to play online games (bf2, lotro), which are 32 bit apps. I know they will run with a 64 bit machine at the slower 32 bit pace. But i can't find the $29. 99 student version anywhere. Is this gone now? Was i too late?

Student Upgrade Freezes

For the past few days i've been attempting to upgrade my dell studio 15 from vista 32bit to windows 7 32bit via the microsoft student discount program. The file for setup, ect. Is now on my computer and i've tried three times now to upgrade. I've removed all the extra programs i can, including all my anti-virus and spyware programs, run the chkdsk utility twice, and still the update process freezes at 55% on the transferring files stage.

I have no idea what is causing the failure to complete the upgrade.

Specs:
Dell studio 15
Windows vista 32bit sp1
Intel core duo cpu 2. 0 ghz
3gb ram

Student Upgrade From Vista Error

I recently purchased a win vista to win7 upgrade, which can be found here (it's a student version):http://www.microsoft.com/student/en/us/windows/buynow/default.aspx  the current home premium system and the update are both 64bit. I ran the windows 7 compatibility manager and it said i am able to upgrade. The problem i have now is that when i want to install the upgrade, this is the error msg i get:windows vista home premium cannot be upgraded to windows 7 professional. You can choose to install a new copy of windows 7 professional instead, but this is different from an upgrade, and does not keep your files, settings, and programs.

You’ll need to reinstall any programs using the original installation discs or files. To save your files before installing windows, back them up to an external location such as a cd, dvd, or external hard drive. To install a new copy of windows 7 professional, click the back button in the upper left-hand corner, and select "custom (advanced)". Please help! Another post said: " you can do an in-place upgrade to win7 home premium and then purchase & install an anytime upgrade to win7 professional but you cannot upgrade directly to win7 professional. "Why, is it that the windows upgrade tool verified my upgrade compatibility and on the microsoft website is no hint on which systems are compatible and which are not?

How am i supposed to know that u cant upgrade from vista home to win7 professional? Can i still install the win7 version as the menu tells me to (with deleting everything) or will i get an error msg stating that my win7 is only an upgrade and not a full version?

Upgrading From Vista Using Student W7 Dvd

Had 32-bit vista running, upgraded to 64-bit by performing a clean install from the dvd to a different drive (ssd). It works fine, except the old drive is still the "system" drive and i cannot boot with the ssd as the boot drive. And, when i boot to the old drive i get the option to load either vista or w7. I don't want to start over if i don't have to.

I'm confused at what the upgrade disc really does, and why i can't delete the old system. Do i need some of the vista files on the sdd in order to get w7 to install properly-or is a clean install, a clean install? Anyway, is it possible to still savlage my install by making the ssd a "system" disc? Move some files form the old drive (vista) over to the new drive? . Something!

I've never had this issue before loading a new os to a single drive. I'm not sure if it is the ssd, the upgrade method being used, the way i set-up the new drive, or my advancing age that is the root cause of my problem.

Re-installing Student Upgrade Version

I am planning to upgrade my motherboard and cpu very soon. I am currently running a windows 7 home premium upgrade that i brought under the £30 student offer, i am aware this is not an oem version but i am still worried. I expect that once i have swapped out this hardware i will need to reinstall the os to prevent any issues but i am concerned that this will not be allowed as i have just an 'upgrade version' key and thus a clean install will not be possible without xp or vista already on the drive. I hope that there is possibly some solution to this possible problem which means i can update my hardware, or perhaps this problem does not exist.

Upgrade To Professional Through Student Discount Program

I am receiving windows 7 home premium via a free upgrade program. Can i upgrade to professional through the student discount program. As a college student some of the programs i will be using need to be compatible with windows xp, and the domain join is nice feature. None of these things are on the home premium edition. So i was wondering if it was possible to install the windows 7 home premium upgrade, and then use the student discount upgrade program on win741.com to purchase the windows 7 professional, rather than full price through the windows anytime upgrade.

Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007

I just bought a new dell laptop with windows 7 and microsoft office home and student, both installed by dell. When i attempt to get into word i get a message telling my that i have to insert a 25 digit product key. I then found a 25 digit product key on the cd dell provided me and made 5 attempts to type it in the message; but it tells me that it is the wrong product key. I went into help and reached a spot containing word info. It had the words "product key" listed but there were no digits following. I'm really concerned because the message also told me that i will only get 25 chances to enter the product key.

Student Upgrade Version Cannot Be Used For A Clean Install

I bought windows 7 student upgrade back in i believe it was december, i kept the bootable jumpdrive i made from it and the registration key. The hard drive i installed it on failed recently, so i went out and bought 2 new ones, set it up in raid, and reinstalled windows 7 as well as transferred over some of the files i keep backed up and installed all the programs i lost. Bout a week later i realized i never activated it, and upon doing so received the error that the student upgrade version cannot be used for a clean install.

Now i am fairly sure i can find the original windows discs and registration numbers, however do i need to uninstall windows 7, install the old windows, just to reinstall windows 7 and all of the programs again? (Took me an entire weekend so i think you could see why i don't wish to do this) or is there a way of showing that i have a previous version without needing to go through the hoops of uninstalling everything.

Australian Student Discount For Win 7 Using On Pc In America

I am an australian student who is currently living in america for a few months with an american friend. She currently has windows xp media center edition 2005 on her dell dimension e520, however she has lost the disc and i am attempting to reinstall her os. I have access to the australian student discounts for windows 7 professional upgrade. My questions:

1. Can i purchase this upgrade for her computer and install this upgrade over her current os, even though it is an american computer?

2. I wanted to buy her the 32-bit edition, and get the 64-bit version for myself. I am currently using the windows 7 rc candidate, and i've searched but am still slightly confused. Can i buy the professional upgrade for my computer, or do i need to buy the complete os?

Student Purchase / Invalid Product Key Error

My old desktop running windows xp died recently, so when building my new system today i took advantage of the offer for students to buy a new license for windows 7 through digital river. I purchased a license for windows 7 64 professional, downloaded it on my laptop and burned the iso to a dvd. After i windows from this dvd onto the new system, i received an error message when trying to activate the product that my key was invalid. I have checked my key several times and i am sure that i am entering it correctly.

Looking through the support center website (i tried calling tech support but there was no one on the line at this hour) it appears my problem is consistent with that of trying to use an upgrade license key instead of a full version license key. However, according to this thread, http://social. Answers.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/w7install/thread/8f22c375-aa0c-4825-ab4c-1a2b7f669f04the version i purchased should be the full version. I do own an install cd for windows xp from my old machine, and since the machine is no longer in use i should be able to use the product key to install windows xp on this machine, but it seems excessive to reinstall an old os in order to use a new one which i was under the impression that i owned a full version of. Is there an easy solution, or do i need to buy an expensive license for the full version of windows 7 to install it on my new machine?

Activations License Through Campus / School Student Option Programs

How many activations do i get with a license through the campus and school agreements student option or select license for academics student select volume licensing programs? I am thinking about getting a copy of windows 7 professional upgrade from www.Journeyed.com since my kids school is authorized. When i clicked on the installation instructions at this page: http://www.Journeyed.com/item/microsoft/windows+7/76681473lars?Show=overview, it stated "important: the license and product key included with this program is a single activation upgrade key. " It seems obvious with the way this was worded, but what happens if my hd crashes or i want to upgrade their computer. Am i stuck having to purchase another copy, or is this saying that it is only one license?

Office Home & Student 2007 Automatic Updates Are Not Working

I am at a loss as to what to do. I recently downloaded microsoft office home & student 2007 which seems to be fine. The problem is, the automatic updates are not working. After searching online, i did the start>run>winver and it says i have service pack 3. Then i went to control panel under add/remove programs and although it is listed, there is no indication that it is actually installed.

I can remember a year or so ago having issues with sp3 when i tried to upgraded to ie8 so "i think" i removed it. Probably shouldn't have done that!  But ie8 worked fine once i removed it.microsoft says we will no longer receive automatic updates to sp2 in june so we need to upgrade to sp3. Well, i just don't know what i have on my computer at this point!

Anyway, now i get these failure messages on the updates for the office:

The 2007 microsoft office suite service pack 2 (sp2)

Update for the 2007 microsoft office system (kb967642)

Security update for the 2007 microsoft office system (kb951944)

Security update for microsoft office 2007 (kb951550)

So i thought i would go in and download sp2. But i wasn't sure if microsoft .net framework 2. 0 service pack 2 actually meant i have sp2 installed or not. And i got myself in such a pickle last year i don't want to take any chances again. I'm sorry this is such a long message. I tried to do print screens to attach more info but that didn't work. Let me know what else you may need.

I have found additional information. Looking into my update history for the automatic updates, all 4 of these failed updates have the same error code which is: 0x80070663. I don't know if that info helps to solve this problem or not but there it is.

Student Programs Funded Free Copies Activation Problem

I'm a student at the university of washington, and recently student programs funded free copies of windows 7 ultimate and office 2010 pro. The faq on the uw's site for this specifically states that you can install both of these programs on all of the computers you own. However, having upgraded first my main laptop from windows 7 home premium to ultimate 64 but, then doing the same on my netbook (but 32 bit) resulted in windows telling me that the activation code provided by my school cannot be used to activate windows on the second computer (the netbook). I do have my operating disc for the netbook, but have no external optical drive to do a fresh install of windows on it. So this is a problem. Can anyone help me out?

Error - Logonui Exe No Disk - Outlook Exe No Disk

I have windows 7 professional running 64 bit. A very annoying error pops up every five minutes or so. The message varies and can read "logonui exe no disk" or "outlook exe no disk" or "your favorite app. - No disk" depending on what i am running at the time. I have looked at many forums and can see that this error occurred in previous windows flavors. Some answers point to malware or infected file, others seem to think it's a corrupt install file. I have a fresh install of win 7. My previous os being xp.

I have reinstalled win7 and tried repair functions. No luck so far.

Aol 9.5 Compatible?

Just upgraded to windows 7 on my 64 bit hp quad processor with 8 gig ram and 700 gigb free disk space. I've been using aol 9. 5 software which is supposed to be compatible and ran well on vista sp2. Now i get error messages regarding low memory and that view point media player isn't loaded (and won't load). After 4 sessions with aol tech support they tell me the program downloads but isn't installing correctly and that it's a windows 7 problem. Although aol doesn't show up in the uninstall feature of the control panel it does show up in program file (x86) in my computer.

It will not allow me to delete it. As it stands now, although i can obtain my email on aol, i am unable to use the browser inside aol or access my favorite list nor answer or send email. Aol also doesn't fully load and i continue to get error messages regarding low memory and the view point media player. As it stands now i am unable to even delete aol from my computer. I have been using aol thru internet explorer but the "favorites" list is corrupted and is unusable. Obviously aol isn't willing to help further. What is going on  and how can i either get the program to work or at the least uninstall and remove the aol program from my computer.

Having been a windows user since the days of 3. 1 i find that it is an increasing task every time microsoft brings out a new version of the os and windows 7 is no exception as this is not the only incompatibility. I am beginning to rethink my loyalty to microsoft.

Can microsoft offer any help or solutions ?

Is Labelflash Compatible With Win7?

Does anyone know how to work labelflash in windows 7, or which program i should be using. Labelflash, for those who don't know, is like light-scribe but far superior in quality. It is a laser image label burned right onto the disk. The problem is i can't get it to work with windows 7 even in compatibility mode.

The labelflash website provides a free program, for windows vista and lower, but only allows you to use their own images. I want to use my images to personalize my disks. It can be done because, like with my lightscribe, i have done it prior to win7. Any help on finding a program ($$ not a problem) that will allow me to continue using labelflash with win7 to create my own images and not factory supplied images on labels will be greatly appreciated.

This would not be a problem if i could download another copy. But the two windows media packs for kn and n windows both say they are incompatible with my computer. Can anyone help? Or must i abandon my music listen on my computer?

Compatible Network Adapter

Last week i went out and bought a hp pavilion desktop model # p6203w with windows 7. We have one computer wired to our dsl and a linksys wireless g broadband router model # wrt54g. My problem is the belkin wireless adapter i bought didn't work. Call hp customer service and they told me that the belkin adapter wasn't compatible with windows 7. I took the belkin back to the store and looked at the other adapters. None of them are compatible with windows 7.

I have a toshiba satellite laptop that works fine with the router so i don't want to replace the router. What i need to know is what brand and model # adapter i need to buy to get my desktop up and running? I have checked the device manager and it offers dial up and broadband but not wireless.
