Dialup Connection Prompt Always Appears When Accessing Internet Through Local Area Network

I have a dialup connection for one particular connection i must make to an email server. Most of the time i connect to the internet through my cable modem on my home network. Is there a way to set up the dialup so that i am not asked to connect via the dialup every time i try to use windows explorer to connect to the internet?

Reset Local Area Connection 2 Adapter

When i upgraded to windows 7 64 from vista 64 a few weeks ago i began getting stop page in my internet connection requiring "reset the local area connection 2 adapter". The internet ceases during video-on-demand downloading and requires manually running the network troubleshooter which "reset the local area connection 2 adapter" to get the connection back. I have nvidia nfp 3600, driver is up to date according to nvidia's test app. There are a ton of people with this issue, and as many superstitious suggestions, seemingly none embraced by microsoft as a definitive cause and solution. No, i don't want to install a vista driver on my windows 7 box.

No, i don't have the "task overload" option to turn off. No, changing the internet rate to 100mbps from auto didn't fix it. No, i'm not doing complex registry alterations to "see" if it goes away. No, reseting the cable modem didn't fix it. I want to know microsoft acknowledges it to be a general problem so i can follow the progress on providing an update to fix it.

Accessing Internet

On my laptop (dell inspiron 6000) which has windows xp, i cannot access the internet by url icon or hotmail icon. I immediately get an ie error message stating there is a problem and needs to close. The error signature is: appname: iexplore.exe, appver: 8. 0. 6001. 1872, modname: sepsearchhelperie.dll, modver: 1. 3. 59. 0, offset: 0000fbb4.

Although a 'webpage' appears i cannot select 'tools' and when i select 'close' on the error message the 'webpage' closes. My desktop pc works a. O. K. With no problems accessing internet, and likewise with another 'wireless' laptop. I have contacted my url provider but without success in resolving this problem.

When i used remote desktop connection (rdc) inwindows xp, all my local printers showed up in the print dialog boxes in the remote computer. Now that i have windows 7 ultimate 64-bit, in rdc sessions i only see the built in windows printers: "fax (from localcomputer)" and "microsoft xps document writer (from localcomputer). " I have two local printers: a network laser printer that is on a tcp/ip port and a usb ink jet that is on my file server. How do i get these to show up in my remote sessions like they did with xp?

Speed Of Accessing A Network Server

I have a macbook. It is running os x, and windows xp and windows 7 on the same machine so i feel this is a good comparison. I have an in home wireless network through a usrobotics router. Attached to that router is a 500gb little file server. It's formatted fat32 and it contains many gbs of music. Anything attached to the router uses cat6 ethernet cables. When i attempt to access this server with win7 it can take over 1/2 an hour for it to list the contents.

When i attempt to access this server with win xp it can take only a few minutes. Os x grabs the data in only a few seconds. My questions:1)is there something in win 7 i should be tweaking to get it to access the data faster?2) is there a better way to setup the server for win 7?3) anything else you might think of.

Accessing Network Executable As Administrator Problem

I'm having a bit of a problem with accessing some stuff on our network. We have a network share full of installs for different programs that we use. There's only three groups listed in the security permissions that have access to the folder and all three have full control. I double-checked in ad and verified that i'm a member of all three groups including domain admins.

The problem is that while i'm able to browse the folders, create and delete stuff, whenever i try to run one of the installs, i get:

"You do not have permission to access \serverfolderinstall.exe"

None of my co-workers get this error and can run the installs fine. I used to be able to run the installs, but recently we moved the folder to a server running server 2008 and we all upgraded to windows 7 enterprise. We're all baffled as to what's going on.

Unable To Connect To Local Network

For a few days now, i have been attempting to resolve this problem where i cannot connect to the internet via ethernet cable. This computer does not have wireless internet. When i run the network diagnostic tool, i get the message:"the 'local area connection' adapter seems to be experiencing driver or hardware related problems. "To attempt to fix this, i downloaded the most up to date network drivers for the adapter, i have an asus m2n-sli deluxe motherboard, aka nvida 570 sli amd.

This did not solve the problem. With further reading, i have tried several things, disabling then re-enabling the adapters, shut down the computer, unplug the ethernet cable, and plug it back in once it starts up, and disable internet securities. Interestingly, i have also noticed that i am unable to run my mcafee anti-virus scan. Has anyone experienced this issue and/or know a solution to fixing it?

Local Network Service Memory Footprint And Services

I've just upgraded from windows xp to windows 7 and i'm examining what has been installed and trying to remove things which i dont use.

For example i have removed all drivers i dont use or need (like qos) from the network device.

Yet i have services like ssdp running - strangely enough i know exactly which devices i have on the network and the computer is directly attached to all of those and should in theory not need to have any discovery services running.

How can i manage which services are running and control what exactly ia being run on my computer network ?

I notice the local network service has a foot print of around 100mb regardless of wether i'm connected to the internet or not - i cannot understand why this service has such a large foot print. How do i control what is being run in this service, is there any way to stop the service from running and only start it if i need to use the network ?

I also wish to stop tcp/ip helper service from starting as there is no reason why anyone shold need echo requests from my computer, i could disable this by uninstalling the driver, is there anyway i can do this ?

As far as i understand i dont need ssdp, ntfs, tcp/iphelper, dtc, fdphost, grouppolicy client, homegroup provider, network list, nla, ftp server, windows connect wifi (i dont use wifi), windows media network sharing, .

Some of the other services look doubtful to me as well.

How can i reduce these services which i certainly dont need at the moment ?

Internet Connection Speed

I have a fairly new samsung r580 notebook with win7 home premium. My internet connection speed is fixed at 65mbps. My wife's notebook speed today was again 130mbps. Our top speed with cox cable is 156mbps. Our modem and wireless router max out at higher speeds than the 156mbps from cox.

So, why am i maxed out at 65? I tried to trouble shoot as well as updating the driver and still, my speed is 65. My notebook has a high-end processor. Is this a problem with win 7? Or. ?

Problem With Internet Connection

I am having problems with my internet connection. About a week ago, a message popped up saying i needed to clean the c drive and to click for help. I clicked and it ran something and told me to uninstall programs i wasn't using. I uninstalled things i did not think i was using but am afraid i may have uninstalled something imperative for making the connection. We have internet service cause our other computers are working. I may have deleted our internet connection but when i troubleshoot it asks me for info (i don't have) or for a disk. I'm not sure how to create the connection again.

Internet Connection Instability

I've recently purchased a new laptop - a gateway nv54zu. However, i've been unable to fully enjoy it on it as i get random latency / ping spikes and then immediate disconnects. The easiest way i can describe it is it seems as though something is cycling, causing the connection to reset / recycle almost instantly then going back to normal almost immediately.

I find the problem in most things i run (or try to) : world of warcraft, instant messengers, ventrilo, basic browsing (page time out in both ie and firefox), movie/music streaming and the list goes on. I've tried everything i can think of and even spent hours googling and trying to see what i can't find or where to start.

I've power cycled both pc and modem. I've disabled windows firewall, wlan, windows antivirus, norton antivirus. I've tried tinkering with the network card. I've updated every driver i could think of and even ones that weren't related (video, sound, chipset, etc). I've tried the latency reductions aswell. I have disabled checksum offload. I run "as administrator" and have tried various comparability modes.

I have called my isp seeing if it was something on their end. The connection was fine with my old pc (fried mobo - but running xp). This is the only thing on the network / using the connection.

I've hit a wall and don't know what else to try. *Any* suggestion might be the solution.

Basic information :

Gateway nv54
Windows 7 - 64x
Broadcom netlink gigabyte ethernet connector - driver version - 14. 0. 0. 7

Connection type : cable - direct wired
Router : none
Modem : motorola sb5120

Any other info - more than happy to provide if it might mean a fix.

Loss Of Internet Connection On Turning On

I've just got bt broadband through a hub and it was running perfectly on vista. A few days ago i upgraded to windows 7 and now when i turn the computer on there is no internet connection found. I used both the bt help thing to discover the fault and the windows diagnostic but they don't help, and the bt one says that there is a problem with the connection to the hub. I've checked the ethernet cable and used the installation disc but the same thing happens the next time i turn the computer on.

There's no problem with the hub because we have two other computers running off it which have no problems. The only way i can get the net back is to system restore to before when i installed a driver for my epson printer. Since it fixed the problem i thought maybe the driver was the problem but i've not reinstalled it and it still loses the net connection on turning on. I don't know what else to try. Any help is appreciated please =)

Internet Connection Not Working After Update

I always install all the updates that are released on "update tuesday. " This time around that wasn't a great thing. I installed them as usual and everything was fine. I came home yesterday to find that my wireless internet connection wasn't there, only to realize that the cats had unplugged it. After plugging it back in the connection came back on for a moment then i was disconnected again. I restarted the computer and everything seemed fine. I tried to play some games that my system always runs great but i had lots of lag in online play so i gave up. I woke this morning to find that my network id was available in my wireless connections but i couldn't connect to it.

The troubleshooter only gave a "there is a problem with your router/gateway" answer which was false as my wife's notebook could surf the net just fine. I then used system restore to go back and uninstall the updates that were published on 4/13/10. Upon restart i was able to connect to the network just fine. Also since that update i can't use the taskbar to open the network and sharing center or the action center but have to access these things through the control panel and this problem was not resolved like my network connectivity problem was. Perhaps the latest round of updates is buggy?

Internet Connection Access Controller

Does anyone know a free program (from a company that can be trusted) to controller internet connection access? I want to be able to connect to the internet via password once per time i'm on the computer and have it disconnect automatically when i put the computer on standby or when it switches users. The reason i'm not doing this through the modem settings page automatically is because i also have a wireless connection that i want to always be on (so that all i have to do is connect wirelessly with no extra steps on the computer).

Problem With Internet Connection Speed

If i connect from my modem directly to the pc i get an internet connection of atleast 22. 5 mbit/s and it can go all the way to 28. 5 mbit/sif i connect the modem to my wireless router, then to my pc and to 3 other laptops, speed drops to 14 mbit/s on my wired connection to the pc and to 2-3 mbit/s on wireless g laptops. Even if there is no one else connected or using bandwidth, the connection speed drops to half on my computer.

So basically my question is this, why the big drop from a direct connection to a modem and a direct connection to a wireless router? Is there anyway to hog most of the connection to my pc and leave a couple of mbits for the other 3 laptops? Ive tried using ad hoc networks but for the most part it has been unreliable. Is there anyway to use the following network config: internet -> modem -> pc -> router -> 3 laptops over wireless the router to blame for the drop in speed? What are my options?

Wired Internet Connection Problem

I have windows 7 on a brand new computer and it is connected to the internet through an ethernet cable to a westell verizon.net router. My internet connection appears to drop intermittently. (Less than a second. Then reconnects) this becomes irritating because many times when i navigate to the next internet window it will say that i am not connected, but if i hit the refresh button the web page appears. Is this a common problem with windows 7? I have performed some trouble shooting my self to no avail, i disconnected the ethernet cable and ran it wireless, but this did not change anything. Any suggestions for further troubleshooting would be helpful

Internet Browsers Connection Crash

I'm having problem with all internet browsers. This error occurs only when i'm using my main user, admin user. When opening mozilla or ie the page won't load. I have to wait like 2 minutes then page loads. I'm in guest user at the moment and no problems. It seems like my internet connection goes away, but no. I'm using msn and other connection required programs so connection isn't the problem. Still my browsers won't get proper connection to internet and won't load pages at first. Every time i reopen browser same problem occurs again. This problem really bothers me. I'm using windows 7 64-bit and running 4gb 2, 7ghz machine. Modem connection, not wireless.

Internet Connection Lost On Restart

I've just installed windows 7, after having windows xp installed for the last 8 years. Everything is more or less good, however i have an internet connectivity issue (which i did not have in windows xp - so can't blame modem/router for that). Every time i would restart my computer (restart/shut down and turn back on - same thing) i would lose the connection to the internet. The network icon on the bottom right would have a warning sign on it. The way i have found to solve this is to unplug the network cable and plug it back in, which causes the connection to reappear correctly.

I have asus p5n32-e sli motherboard and have installed the drivers that came with it after windows 7 installation, i have then updated the drivers to what was recommended by windows 7 in the update service - that is when the issue began i believe.

No Internet Connection Win 7 64-bit

I've recently been infected with a virus, and now can't connect to internet. The network connection icon on task bar has changed and has a red cross through it. When clicked it says not connected, and no connections are available. In device manager i get no network controller drivers are installed.

I've bypassed the belkin 802. 11g network adapter (pci) and plugged the sagem routed directly into the pc and still no connection. I know the connection is working as i'm dual booting this pc. How can i get the win 7 drivers back in if i can connect to internet?

Internet Connection Freezing Problem

I have an internet connection problem. I am using an usb adsl modem to connect the internet. Sometimes my internet connection drops, i can not connect to any site. When i look at the network connection shortcut (notification area) on the taskbar, it says there is no internet connection. However, it also shows that adsl is still connected. If i want to cut the connection, it doesn't. And after that i can not access the panel any longer, it simply freezes. Reconnecting the usb modem doesn't help. I have to restart the pc completely.

This was happening in my windows vista laptop, i thought it is a problem by the laptop. But it also happens in my windows 7 desktop. Same usb, different driver, different windows. What can cause such freezing in the internet connection? How can i solve it?

Wireless Internet Connection Problems

I got a new sony vaio laptop for my birthday yesterday and i have spent all night and all of today trying to connect it to the wireless internet in my house. It has windows seven and my computer techonologically informed friend says that because my new laptop is with windows seven, but the router is hooked up through a vista computer, that it is not compatible and my laptop is not letting me connect to the wireless. When we tried to investigate the problem on my laptop, it says that it is connected to my netgear system, but the connection is not strong enough for me to actually use the internet.

I did not have this problem with my previous windows xp acer laptop. It didn't have a problem connecting and allowing me access to the router. My friend believes this is a fault with windows seven, and so i have turned to this site for help. We have investigated as many possibilities as we could but could not resolve the situation. Is there something wrong with my computer? Or is this a common problem that is easily fixed?
