Can't Get To Safe Mode - Repair Loop

I have a win 7 64 bit pc that's i'm having an odd issue with. The system will boot and load windows normally, but i can't get to safe mode. When i hit f8, i get the options for safe mode and repair, etc. , But if i try safe mode it loads some stuff, then just stops and a get a black screen with "safe mode" in all 4 corners, a mouse, but nothing else. When i hit "repair" it gets stuck in a repair loop. I've read the tutorial on how to get out of that loop, but was wondering if that's what i should try or if there's some other problem. I'll need to ask a question later about why i need to get to "safe mode" but for now, anyone help on this issue?

Startup Repair Boot Loop

Windows 7 pro 32 on a laptop (could be home premium, can't remember what was installed on this particular laptop). After an update yesterday, the system constantly boots into startup repair. Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically is the message i receive. The details have changed a couple times.

Problem event name: startuprepairoffline

Sig 1: 6. 1. 7600. 16385

Sig 2: same

Sig 3: unknown

Sig 4: 21201082

Sig 5: autofailover

Sig 6: 4

Sig 7: nobootfailure or corruptfile (have gotten both at different times).

Os version: 6. 1. 7600. 2. 0. 0. 256. 1

Locale id: 1033

I performed a system restore to before the update was run, back to an automatic system restore point. It didn't actually apply this. When the system rebooted it went back into startup repair and i thought i needed to go further back. It still had all the system restore points available, even the ones after the one i went back to, which i thought could be something new? I restored to a point further back, but when i rebooted it still came up for startup repair. This time, there
Are no restore points created, according to system restore.

I've run sfc with the proper switches to get it to point to the windows directory and i've run chkdsk just to make sure the disk isn't bad. One of the lines in the repair details said "root cause found: boot critical file d:windowssystem32driversatapi.sys is corrupt. Error code 0x490", but replacing it with a good file from a working win7 install didn't fix anything or remove that error from popping back up in a startup repair details. Another set of repair details says "root cause found: boot status indicates that the os booted successfully. "

My next step is to perform an in-place upgrade to the same os (a repair install) but wondered if there was anything that could be done to address this?  I don't know what update was installed. Should have written it down, but i didn't think about it.

Windows 7 Freeze In Normal Mode, Safe Mode Works Fine

I am out of ideas. Three days ago my computer started freezing within a few minutes after startup. Freezes with no mouse movement and no keyboard. Must shutdown using the power button. Happens every time i start in normal mode. Safe mode works fine. I have done quite a bit of reading and tried a number of things, so far to no avail. Quite a few error codes present, here are some:

Winlog 6000
Service 7001
Distrib 10005
Service 7026
Event log 1101
Kernel 41
Browser 8032
Load perf 3011
Load perf 3012

I have tried restoring, turning off all non-microsoft services, disabling sound, updating video driver, memory test, adjusting bios per g skill tech forum. All hardware showing normal operation in device manager.

I can't find the minidump .dmp folder in c:/windows. The only location i find for .dmp files is in the watchdog folder, and there are quite a few in there. Let me know if i need to upload them.

My computer is a couple of months old and has been working flawlessly until this happened with one exception. (I have been getting occasional monitor blanking for a couple of seconds followed by a notification that the graphics driver has stopped responding and was successfully restored. )

Unable To Do Safe Mode

First of all. There's no virus in my computer so this is not caused by virus. Then the problem is = when i try to go to safe mode. After load all the driver, then my computer restart, so i start windows normally then i go to msconfig.exe, then i checked the 'safe boot' . Then i restart my pc, and automatically go to safe mode, unfortunately when loading all the drivers, my computer restart again. How to uncheck the safe boot in msconfig without get into windows. ? How to start windows normally. ? How to resolve this problem without re-install my computer. ? Now i'm online from linux boot cd.

Windows 7 enterprise build 7100

Freezes And Works In Safe Mode Only

Acer aspire 7740-6656 laptop less than 6 mos old windows 7 home premium 64 bit intel core i5-430m processor w/4 gb ddr3 1066 sd ram, & hd on-board graphics problem: currently only run windows in safe mode:when run in normal mode windows runs for 5 min, then freezes which prevents anything from working - keyboard, touchpad, even the screen freezes. For instance if windows is in the process of upgrading as it was today the install window freezes. All that can be done is to power off machine and reboot into safe mode - note: safe mode networking does not work either.

Have tried system restore in safe mode with success of taking system back but it does not resolve the problem. Acer ts is no help, they are useless and all windows diagnostics show no hardware or software issues when run in safe mode. Have done several re-installs of the os, drivers, etc. From the hidden partition on the hard drive with no resolution and there are no error messages generated when the system locks up.

Unable To Boot Even In Safe Mode

I have windows xp home edition. My pc was working ok last night although running extremely slow. Tried to start today but it gave me the following message: "a problem has been detected and window has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmenting, backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, check for any updated drivers. Run chkdsk /f to check hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer. If you need to use safe mode, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

Win 7 Only Running Programs In Safe Mode

I got my computer about a week ago. Things seemed to work fine the first start-up, and then i had to restart in order to install some updates. After the restart (which took somewhere around 4 hours) i found that several programs will not open, i.e. Internet explorer, media player, norton antivirus. I attempt to open them, the 'loading' icon appears next to the cursor, and then nothing happens. All of these programs came pre-installed, as this is a new computer.

However, these programs do run in safe mode. Prior to the restart, i had installed network magic 5. 1 and attempted to install webroot antivirus. I have since uninstalled these programs, but the problem continues. I have made no other changes to the computer. I've also tried backing up the computer but this has not worked either. I'm afraid i know very little about computers and have no idea what i should do. Any advice would be very welcome.

Flash Drive Only Works In Safe Mode

I have an 8gb pny flash drive that works in windows vista and the safe mode in windows 7. It will not work in the full windows 7 mode. Ll the other flash drives that i have work fine in windows 7 full mode. When i boot the drive up in full windows, the system takes a long time to id the device. Then if it does id it, it shows that the disk is full. In the disk management process the flash drive as shown with "no media". The drivers are all shown as identical for all my flash drives and they work fine, this one won't work. I have updated the chip set and bios of the motherboard (gigabyte ga-ma785gm-us2h) with the latest drivers and updates.

Activate Administrator Account In Safe Mode

How to activate administrator account in safe mode? I have two accounts "user1" ("user" level and i know this password) and "admin1" ("admin" level)accounts. Built-in administrator account has a password (i know this password) but it's not active. I changed my admin1 password and now i can't remember it. I have tried to use built-in administrator account by "safe mode" but it doesn't shows up in the list of users (to log in safe mode)? I logged in as a user1 account with cmd prompt. I typed "net user administrator /active:yes" but os says "system error 5 has occurred. Access is denied". How i can use built-in administrator account (since i know that password) when it's not activated?

Win 7 Wont Start, Even In Safe Mode

When i went to turn on my gateway laptop this morning, it wouldn't start up. I have windows 7, and have been running on it fine for about four months. When i turn the computer on, it shows the "windows is starting" screen, but then it goes to a black screen with just the cursor, sits there for a few minutes, then restarts again. Then i tried running in safe mode (going to the boot menu, selecting "safe mode") and ran into the same problem: it would go to a black screen with the cursor, hold there, then restart again. Is this a virus? Is there any way for me to get to system restore from the boot menu? I can still access the bios set-up, but i don't know what i can do from there to help.

No sound, no virus program (norton 360 4. 0) , no internet settings, there was no system restore information so i couldn't restore, i installed malewarebytes and did a scan and found nothing, so i then re set all my settings and re installed ie, my virus programm, and all other basic settings and programs . Everything worked fine for the rest of the day with a few restars etc then the next day i turned it on and i was back to basic with nothing installed :-(only thing i can think of is possible norton conflict as this was only installed a few days prior to problems? Cannot Boot In Safe Mode Or Command Prompt

Not sure what the problem is but every mode i try booting in gets a black screen and the brightness of the screen is dimmer however i do get a mouse pointer that i can move around freely. I have an assumption that its a video error and regucure probably messed something up while i was trying to repair broken registry. Currently in kuwait by the way and both safe mode and command prompt is the same way the only thing i seem to be able to use is the f2 setup screen which does not seem to help at all either resetted the settings to default but no progress. Wish i could find a way to fix this without taking cash from my pocket or sending it to a place to reset it to factory settings.

However, whenever i go into windows 7 the problem is present. If anyone could please help, i would be very thankful.

Pc Only Starts Up In Safe Mode After Running Scan Disk

I was running scan disk to attempt to speed up my son's computer. I also got rid of some files that he had on it. The files were for his old apple ipod and he doesn't use it anymore. So i figured it couldn't hurt anything. The file were "safari", "bonjour", and some other apple files. I also removed a program for my old samsung camera. I tried to do a system restore from before i removed these programs/drivers. But that didn't work even though it said the restore was successful. I am at a lose of what to do and school is just starting. I hope he don't need it soon. Can anyone help? Thank you for you time and any help you may be able to give.

Netbook Cannot Start - Safe Mode Stops At Classpnp.sys

My msi u130 windows 7 starter does not start, merely gets to the loading screen (where you see the green flash going above the words microsoft corporation). Launch startup repair shows a white bar and the message windows is loading files before going to the loading screen. Launching os recovery does the same as above. Using safe mode hangs at 'classpnp.sys'. A variety of other safe mode options stop at 'classpnp.sys'.

I downloaded the windows 7 recovery disk iso and put it on a usb. After some problem with "ntldr is missing press ctrl alt del to restart" downloaded bootsect.exe, used that, then got a message windows is loading files and a white loading which, which, when complete, put me back tot he normal windows loading screen, zero other activity. Have tried to boot to a linux system off a usb to replace the classpnp.sys file with one i found on this xp machine, but can't get linux to start off the usb. So any ideas? With my main laptop with my wife i desperately need this netbook working, not least because it has office 2007 on it.

Crashes And Debugging - Black Screen After Login, Safe Mode Ok

My laptop seems to hang after the login screen, the screen either goes completely black or sometimes shows the desktop picture and an empty taskbar, but i am unable to do anything such as task manager. Leaving the system running for 10-15 minutes after trying ctrl-alt-del will bring up some error message, but i forget what it said, i'll try to get it again.

I can get into safe mode just fine, and ran the sf diagnostic tool from there, i have attached the files it created as requested. The laptop hung on me on shutdown before this issue started and after waiting for 30 minutes for it to try to shut down normally it wasn't responding so i had to power it down. I'm thinking that might've fudged something up but i'm unsure if there were any windows updates queued at the time or not. I'm really unsure what to do at this point, there aren't any system restore points, i didn't remember turning it off but i must have at some point.

Startup Repair Cannot Repair This Computer Automatically

Yesterday, i went to use my computer and it appeared to be hung up. I rebooted and windows 7 refused to boot. It went to the startup repair screen and gave me a message stating "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically. " As well as the following message:

Problem event name: startuprepairoffline
Problem signature 01: 6. 1. 7600. 16385
Problem signature 02: 6. 1. 7600. 16385
Problem signature 03: unknown
Problem signature 04: -1
Problem signature 05: autofailover
Problem signature 06: 7
Problem signature 07: corruptvolume
Os version: 6. 1. 7600. 2. 0. 0. 256. 1
Locale id: 1033

After reviewing more details it said that the file "fltmgr.sys" was corrupt. I can not boot into safe mode. I logged into my vista partition and extracted the "fltmgr.sys" file from the windows 7 dvd and tried to replace it in the system32drivers folder, but that did not resovle this problem. I also attempted to use system restore from the repair menu, but that won't work either. I have not made any system changes or installed any software recently. This same problem happened about two months ago and i was stuck reinstalling from scratch.

Boot Takes Minutes, Will Boot In Safe Mode

When i booted up this arvo, the computer took 15 minutes to get to the log in screen. Upon clicking the profile image, i had to wait another 5 minutes of unresponsiveness for even the desktop background to display. Rebooted 3-4 times, still happened, booted in safe mode, (which is how i'm writing this) and initially thought it was msmpeng.exe that was causing me issues, so i removed mse once i finally managed to get it going in normal mode. I thought the problem was fixed when i rebooted, and i had about 4-5 minutes of normal speeds before it slowed right down and became unresponsive.

When the computer is running, the actual computer itself sounds fine (hard disk is chattering away) but when going slow and unresponsive it only makes noises every 1-2 seconds, if that makes any sense, as if it's under a really heavy load. Hard to tell because i cant open anything. Ran a system restore, didn't do anything. I need help soon! I suspect a driver issue, but i'm just speculating. Specs: windows 7 home premium 64 bit 6gig ddr3 ram i7-860 cpu ati 5770 gpu

Restart Loop

I did a windows update and restarted my pc as instructed and the pc just keeps restarting. I tried to boot to safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, and last known good configuration and it still loops. I finally chose not to restart after failure and got a blue screen that read "stop: c000021a {fatal system error}

The windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x 0000135 (0x 00000000  0x 00000000) the system has been shut down. "

Installation Reboot Loop

So after having a billion problems with my laptop after the first install of win7 home (its a "free upgrade" version for the new asus i bought before win7 came out) i started to just ignore my computers problems. Today i bought the sims 3 ambitions and tried to install it. It didn't work, so i tried to uninstall all sims versions to reinstall. The computer wouldn't let me uninstall it.

So i figured maybe i didn't upgrade win7 the right way, popped in the disk again and waited 2 1/2 hours (install where it supposedly keeps your files) to find out that "the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed.

To install windows, click "ok" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation. "So i did. I clicked ok and waited. All it does now is say "setup will continue after restarting your computer" then it restarts and says "press any key to boot from cd or dvd" then takes me to a boot manager with windows 7 or windows setup rollback, automatically chooses for me.

Then the starting windows page comes up, then goes to "setup is starting services" and it glitches a bit, then straight back to the error message above. How can i fix this?! Im close to throwing my laptop. At least it kind of worked before and definitely worked before windows 7!

The problem is that just after the first splash screen, either the pc reboots, or with mouse input, attempts to show the tos window, but on clicking the check-box just reverts to the same tos window. Left without clicking, it reboots. I would be very grateful for assistance.

Update Stuck In A Loop

Problem: windows update constantly prompts me to "restart your computer to finish installing important updates". After restart i can boot successfully, but after a few minutes the "restart your computer" dialog again appears.

The update that appears to be triggering this is listed in the windows updates log file as:

Update for windows 7 for x64-based systems (kb980408)

     Installation status: pending
     Error details: code 80242014

No subsequent updates can be installed, as windows update indicates "windows update cannot currently check for updates, because you must first restart the computer so that a previous installation can be completed. "

Machine configuration:

Intel  i7 920 running at 2. 67ghz
6 gb ram, 64-bit windows 7 (came installed on the machine)
Os version = 6. 1. 7600. 0. 0. 65792
Os product type = 0x00000030
Computer brand = dell inc.
Computer model = studio xps 435t
Bios revision = a13
Bios name = default system bios
Bios release date = 2009-02-06t00:00:00
Locale id = 1033

Antivirus: symantec endpoint protection, version: 11. 0. 5002. 333

Approaches i have tried to address this error:

1. Using "uninstall programs" i have uninstalled this windows update and rebooted. After doing this kb980408 is no longer listed as being installed, and yet the reboot prompt continues to appear. I also did a full virus scan (no viruses) and also verified that there is plenty of disk space.

2.system restore. Unfortunately i don't have restore points going back far enough to when this first started happening.

3. Manually downloading and installing the windows update, then rebooting. I had hopes that this would update whatever registry entries are causing the problem, but instead all i have now is a second pending entry in the windows update log:

     Update for windows (kb980408)
     Installation status: pending
     Error details: code 80242014

Upgrade Stuck In Reboot Loop

Received my win7 upgrade (going from vista 64 to win7 64) from arvato digital service, the 3rd party vendor handling hp's win 7 upgrade. After using their "insert this disc first" compatibility application, and an update of bios and i was set to go.

At some point during the installation (i really don't think it was at 62%) the upgrade restarted my system and i was stuck in the endless reboot loop i've read about. I was able to still boot vista. After trying unsuccessfully to upgrade 2 more times with the same results i've given up.

This took place on an hp dv-6 1230 laptop; vista 64; 4gb; core 2duo 2. 1ghz

I want to vent my disappointment with ms or arvato or hp, who knows which one is responsible. I just know that a day was wasted and the desired result was never reached. I know it could have been worse, but as a teacher with access to many impressionable minds, i am quite tempted to go on an all out assault and tell every student i teach to avoid ms. But what's the use? Just hugely disappointed is all.

I know there is a fix for the upgrades hanging at 62%, does anyone know of a fix for this reboot loop that occurs at the first point the upgrade opts to restart?

Upgrade Stuck In A Reboot Loop

I successfully upgraded from vista ultimate to w7 ultimate about a month ago. To cut a long story short. The other day i lost internet access after completely removing zonealarm free v9. After exhausting all known possibilities i chanced on a repair/upgrade install to hopefully replace any lost files. The installation started ok and after several hours completed all the file transfer process and then came up with the following error: "windows could not parse or process the unattended answer file for pass [specialize]. A component or non-list setting is specified more than once in the answer file. "

Clicked ok (which was the only choice) a black screen appeared with a message in the bottom right advising "this copy of windows is not genuine" which is untrue! Then it rebooted. Choices at reboot are windows 7 or rollback windows 7. Both lead to eventual automatic reboot.

How do i get out of this mess and hopefully restore my windows 7. Pc is an asus n50v notebook which came with vista ultimate 32 bit. Originally upgraded to w7 with asus supplied windows 7 upgrade disk. If i try to rollback - i get the error pop-up: the computer restarted unexpected lyor encountered an exception error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows click ok to restart the computer and restart the installation.

Reboot Loop After Trying To Reinstall Sp2

I have a presario 7550 with windows xp which was updated to at least sp2 and ie8. After the infamous updates from 2/10/10, my computer cycled to the safe mode screen. I could not enter safe mode, instead it would keep just looping back.

Had no choice but to go into system recovery, which after restart, reloaded some sort of problem that i had a year ago - not allowing me to open program files. I went to safe mode again, right clicked program files and changed ownership back to me (from another profile named administrator(s), with an "s". This re-enabled me to open the files.

Windows eventually reloaded, but at sp1 and the best i have now is ie6.

If i try to upload security essentials, then sp2, i get an error that states a windows file is corrupt or missing. After sp2 installs - i go back to the restart loop displaying the factory "presario" screen, giving me the choice (or chance) to do a system recovery (f10) again.

Since after recovery, i was still able to get into safe mode and the recovery console (but not from a boot disk) i tried the posted fix from the command line windows/ : chdir $ntuninstallkb977165$spuninst - then - batch spuninst. Text - then - exit

This just sent me back to the restart loop featuring the "presario" option of exit or f10 recovery (looking as it was going to load windows for about 5 seconds).

I am currently at sp1 and ie6 which has only basic functionality but is extremely unstable (temperamental).

Norton has been removed, so has all of the other factory preloaded junk.

I noticed that i have about 20 "windows xp hotfixes, including abot 6 or 7 containing (sp2) in their name" in the remove programs section of control panels. I have not removed any of these.

Can anyone help?

Installation Of Win 7 Stuck In A Loop

My toshiba a305 displayed "no bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key" so my husband decided to do a clean install of windows 7. Laptop originally ran vista and was upgraded via download to windows 7. At 77% screen showed that there was not enough memory left to complete installation of windows 7. Now it is stuck in a loop. It will not revert and it keeps trying to run set up and ends with " the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error.

Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows click ok  to restart computer and then restart the installation" how can i get it out of this loop? I had the vista recovery discs so hubby changed the hard drive but when we try to use the recovery disk it does not recognize it. It displays. "Intel undi, pxe-2. 1 (build 082) copyright (c) 1997-2000 intel corporation pxe-e61:media test failure check cable pxe-mof:exiting pxe rom no bootable device-insert boot disk and press any key"is this a windows problem? I have backup of all info on the laptop so do not care about wiping it clean. Please any suggestion? Love this laptop but it is out of warranty. Any help appreciated.

Sound Hangs And Repeats In A Endless Loop

After playing for a variable amount of time, the sound hangs and repeats a 1 second loop. The only way to stop it is to reboot. Killing and restarting the windows audio service does not stop it. When the service is restarted is continues looping. Realtek integrated hd audio. Does this with windows 7 whql driver as well as later drivers from realtek. Does not happen with the other add on sound card in my machine which is an echo layla 3g professional outboard sound interface. 64bit windows.
