Usb Storage Device Not Detected

I am using a 2gb "memory stick pro duo" plug into a "memory stick pro duo" to "memory stick duo" adaptor, this is then plugged into my trust "all-in-1 card reader" which is plugged into my computer. The computer however does not recognize that anything is plugged in and no error message shows up. In device manager i can see 2 "generic usb hub" which i know signifies the "all-in-1 card reader", but no other devices related to my memory stick show up.

I've tried this on two other computers and they both have the same problem. When i plug my memory card into my camera it can easily see the pictures stored on there. I was going to try to reformat the memory stick but if it can't be detected at all, how would i do that?

Problem Ejecting Usb Mass Storage Device

I'm having problems ejecting my usb external hard drive. I store my music on the drive and would like to have windows media player readily have access to that library. Thus, when i added a folder on the drive to the music library on my computer, i can no longer safely remove the hard drive. Are there any fixes for this issue since it is highly inconvenient to have windows media player rescan my drive to reestablish my library? I am currently running windows 7 ultimate 64-bit if that's at all relevant.

Event Id 11 When Plug Storage Device Into Usb Port

My equipment is a toshiba tecra a11-s3531 laptop with windows 7 professional, 64 bit. This computer is new within the past two months. Everytime i plug in a usb san disk cruzer 8gb drive or a seagate free agent go 320 gb portable hard drive into any of the usb only ports on this computer, two or more event id 11 errors are immediately logged in theevent viewer. The corresponding message is "the driver detected a controller error on deviceharddisk%dr%".

The % placeholder is different numbers at different events. Plugging into the combination usb/sata port does not generate the error. I have tested this behavior on an exact out of the box factory software configuration with absolutely no modifications except as needed to easily see the events in event viewer.

I occasionally see misbehavior of applications and one recent freeze which prompted me to look at the event viewer. This is when i noticed the event id 11 errors. I have also seen other error messages. I don't know if they are related, so i thought i would tackle the first one that appears time wise. Does anybody know the cause of these error messages?

My gut feel is that it is a driver problem since the computer is new and the error is logged when plugging multiple types of storage devices into any usb only port. The mass storage usb driver appears to be usbstor.sys version 6. 1. 7600. 16385 (win7_rtm. 090713-1255) which appears to be the default microsoft driver with windows 7 professional 64 bit. I have seen other very similar problem descriptions posted on other websites.

Computer Cannot Recognize Usb Storage Devices

I am using a brand new hp with windows 7. The first time i plug any thumb drive or my external hard drive into any usb port my computer immediately recognizes it by name and i able to use files on it and save to it normally. When i safely remove it and come back the second time and plug it into my computer nothing happens. I go to my computer and see it is shown as "unknown device". When i use the "trouble shoot hardware devices" tells me it is not recognized and i get this message:

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

I have tried turning the computer off and rebooting but i still get the same message. I have used the update driver and get the message that the proper driver is installed. I have gone to the "windows 7 compatability center" and my simpletech 160 gb external hard drive is listed as compatible. Please tell me what i can do to make my computer recognize and allow me to use these devices. Without being able to use them so that i can do work at home and take it back and forth to school, i really have no need for the computer in the first place !

I am able to use all my external usb storage devices on xp at school as well as on an old laptop at home with no problem. The only problem i have is windows 7 apparently. Since i have tried three different usb plug n' play devices with the same result (each of which was recognized only the first time i plugged them in) it obviously is not the fault of the storage devices.

Is anyone out there?

Usb Mass Storage Class Devices Fail To Install

I'm having problems plugging usb mass storage devices into my pc (it's a dell xps8100 for what that's worth). Existing usb storage devices in that class (e.g. I had been using them on this particular system for a while) work fine. I have an ipod 5th gen, which  is a usb hard disk from windows' point of view, and it's fine. So are a few sata hard drives that i put into vantec usb housings, as are memory keys i've already used and cf/sd card readers. But. Devices that are brand new to this system. Nope. I have observed the behavior with a (very old) ipod nano 1g, several run of the mill usb keys, and another ide hard drive in a venus ds9 enclosure. All of the above use generic drivers - e.g. Disk.sys, partmgr.sys. When i plug them in, the balloon comes up.

Installing drivers. And then it gives me the dreaded red x. Driver not installed. If i go into device manger and have a look, i always see the failed device as a root device. And usually with an identifier i have not seen before. For example, if i plug in the venus ds9-housed hard disk, a root node appears called "other devices || usb2. 0 storage device" (written exactly like that) with a yellow triangle (driver not installed). With the ipod nano. "Other devices || ipod" and same yellow triangle. Always code 28 (driver not installed) now i decided to get cute and go update driver || browse my computer. And try searching windowssystem32.

It still fails, and reports the following: windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. Usb mass storage device (imagine a usb icon to the left of that)the system cannot find the file specified. Since the "file" is disk.sys, it must be there, otherwise windows would not even boot. S i said, this will also happen with usb memory keys. One more data point, vmware workstation is installed on this system.

If i have a vm running and plug in any usb storage device, it will be installed/connected to the guest os (normal vmware behavior). Under vms, the devices that don't work in the host, work fine in the guests! So it is not a hardware problem, it's something in my particular windows 7 installation that is wrong somehow. (Vms i tested were win 7 x86, winxp mce, and w2k8. Works fine in all/any of them)so. I've exhausted just about every path i can think of. Nukeing windows and reinstalling is not a viable option for me. Nyone seen similar/have any ideas as to what i can try next?

Usb Devices Are Not Detected

I've been reading a lot of posts in this community and in similar ones and i tried all sorts of things suggested there with the hope that my problem gets solved. Unfortunately it hasn't happened so far, but at least i know i'm not the only one frustrated. I have a toshiba satellite l30-10t laptop, running windows 7 home premium, clean install after vista home basic oem.

After installing 7, my usb devices (wd 320 gb external hard drive, usb hub, mp3 player, flash drives, mobiles phones, digital camera) worked fine for a few days, then all of a sudden were not recognized anymore. I don't get any error message, the devices are powered (lights on, disc spinning), but drivers fail to load. I've already tried the following (the list is randomly ordered) with little or no succes at all:

- Reinstalling the os
- Updated bios
- Trying to update the usb drivers
- Uninstalling the usb controllers/reboot and let windows find them again, both in normal and safe mode.
- Shut down, unplug from main power supply (with the battery taken out as well), left it overnight and then boot again
- Erased all the installed usb devices in device manager using the "show hidden devices" feature
- Deactivated the usb selective suspension in the power scheme settings and the "allow computer to shut down device to save energy" (my windows is in italian, i'm sorry if not getting the right names in english) in the usb hub's settings - solved the issue for a few days.
- Deleted the upper and lower filters in the registry as suggested in one post - this only caused a blue screen each time i tried to reboot.
- Installed the latest driver for the ati chipset (or at least i think this is what i did)
- Used this tool http://www.Zhangduo.com/udi.html to find any unknown devices, it found a couple, usb controller and usb hub, but i couldn't get any drivers.

I've seen a solution that seemed to work for some, though it was for xp, change the disableselectivesuspend value in the registry, but i couldn't figure out exactly how since my registers look a bit different than described in the post.

Usb Adapter Not Being Detected

Okay, here's what i'm having a problem with. I purchased a mayflash n64 duel port adapter, which is supposed to be "plug and play". It says compatible with windows 98, me, xp, and vista. But my pc isn't even acknowledging that i've plugged something in! Is there something i'm missing here, or am i just out of luck because i bought into windows 7?(I've never had trouble using older programs/devices before. And i was really excited about using the n64 controller with the n64 games. )I searched for drivers, but since it's "plug and play" i couldn't find any.

Intermittent Usb Not Detected Problem

My problem is the following: i have a genius traveler 315 laser mouse which i brought last summer and it worked perfect on my laptop. Recently i have bought a new laptop, on which the mouse does not work anymore.

The problem is very awkward, because the behavior of the mouse on the new laptop is completely random: on several occasions it actually worked perfectly when plugged-in, but most of the times (e.g. After restarting the os or unplugging the mouse and plugging it back) it didn't. This behavior is even stranger because on my old laptop and several others the mouse still works perfectly.

My first opinion was that the problem is with the usb or mouse drivers, but when i tried another mouse and an external hdd on the new laptop, they both worked fine. I even copied the usb-related drivers from my old laptop to the new one, hoping i could solve the problem that way, but the outcome was the same (on both laptops the os is win 7).

Another possibility was that one of the wires in the mouse's cord was broken, but i crossed that out, too, because i tried twisting the cord as much as i could while it was working on the new laptop and it still worked fine. The usb sockets on the new laptop are all working (i tried them all).

I know that the easy solution is to buy another mouse, but i rather figure out what is wrong with this one (or with my new laptop) than to spend money to replace a mouse that i know it is functional because i feel that that money would be wasted, i have no guarantee that the new mouse will work (if i'd buy a new one i'd still go for a genius) and, besides, i would be really glad if i could solve this awkward problem.

Usb Devices Not Detected - Bsod Driver_power_state_failure

I am using a toshiba satellite a505-s6025 running windows 7 pro 64-bit, 4gb ram, nvidia 310m graphics card. Things have been working well for a couple of months until yesterday, after i installed a western digital mybook world edition (1tb) and the most recent windows updates. After these installations, i have been having 2 problems:

1. ) First thing i noticed is that shutdown takes forever, and ends with a bsod with driver_power_state_failure message.

2. ) Secondly, none of my usb devices are being recognized anymore. Sometimes when i have these devices plugged before turning windows on they get recognized properly, but if i plug any usb devices after windows loads i do
Not get any recognition at all.

I've tried updating to the latest video drivers, bios, and uninstalling the programs that came with the wd drive (mionet and wd anywhere backup) but the problems haven't gone away.

Analyzing the memory dump led to this message:

Usb Hard Drive Detected As New On Every Boot

I'm using a usb hard drive (a redrive, from hitachi) for storage of recorded tv. Recently, i installed windows 7 on the internal hard drive for the same machine, and now every time the computer boots up, i get a dialog telling me that windows 7 has detected a new usb device, and asking what it should do (open the folders, start a slideshow, whatever).

I just want the pc to treat this like another hard drive, and not a removable usb peripheral. Any way to do that?  This worked in vista.

External Usb 2.0 Hard Drive Not Detected

I am running windows 7 and trying to plug my 200 gb hard drive from an old computer with xp into my new computer via usb 2. 0 from an external enclosure. The external enclosure is has its own power source and does not require drivers. When i plug it in the usb port i hear the chime indicating window detects an external device and it will appear under usb devices in device manager but only for about 10 seconds and then disappears.

It never shows up under disk management nor under computer as a mass storage device. I have tried using other usb cables/ports. I have tried exchanging the external enclosure for a new one thinking the first was faulty but that didn't help.

Usb Flash Drive Detected / Working But Not Display In Pc

I am running windows 7 professional. Any usb storage drive i connect to my laptop is not displayed in computer. It is assigned a legitimate drive letter and i can access the drive's contents by typing in the drive letter in the navigation bar or in run. I have verified this using the disk management utility. File operations on the drive work perfectly fine. The only issue here is that the drive is not shown or is hidden in computer. I have set folder options to show everything, ie. Any option to hide anything has been unchecked.

Additionally, when clicking the safely remove hardware icon in the tray, the device is listed as ". " Instead of the actual device name and drive letter. Note that there is one user account which is my administrator account. Interestingly, i created a new standard user account and was able to see the usb drive in computer when logged in to that account. Is there any setting i can change on my admin account to enable this? I would prefer not to have to create a new account and reconfigure all my settings.

Error - Unknown Device - Usb Does Not Recognize Garmin Device

Just recently, windows 7 home premium addition has stopped detecting my garmin device. Other usb devices such as my ipod work fine. I was able to get it to detect the garmin only a few times, it would try to install the drivers but the drivers would fail to install. The garmin was working a few weeks ago. Below is a list of everything i have already tried:

Rebooting (after everything i try)
- Turning the computer off and leaving it unplugged overnight
- Completely uninstalling all drivers and software associated with the gamin.
- Manually installing drivers
- Uninstalling the unknown device and doing a search for new hardware
- Uninstalling the unknown device and doing a search for legacy hardware (this produces a device not functioning (code 10) error)
- Reverting back to a restore point before the last windows update

Please, any help would be very appreciated. I am decently computer savvy and have always been able to fix any problems that i have. This one has had me spinning my wheels for days.

Device Malfunctioned Error Code - 43 - Usb Device Not Recognized

I purchased a new computer with windows 7.initially my ipod worked fine with this computer. It still charges the ipod but nothing else. In addition it will not work on my old computer.

1. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled itunes.

2. I reset the device losing all of my music.

3. I have gone to device manager and the ipod shows up as unkown device. I have stopped the device driver and rebooted.

4. I have tried to have attached to my old computer update and i receive the exact same error and usb not recognized message.

5. Other devices work fine on the usb hub, in addition i have tried the other usb hub.

All of the above measures have failed. This all started when i was having problems updating my music to the ipod, and i chose the restore function on the summary page of the itunes software, with the device attached, and recognized. Since then nothing? Initially when the device was attached after the restore option was chosen, i got need to attach to a 2. 0 usb  high speed hub, error message? It is a 2. 0 usb high speed device. I have reviewed other questions in this forum, on apples forums, all with the same results, nothing.

Usb Hub Displaying As Device In Device Manager

Pretty much all my device connected to my usb hub used to show in device manager as separate devices. However, they now only show under the name "kevin o'connor" (the name of my zune). Open the device's properties and going to the hardware tab will show all the device connected via the usb hub.

Therefore, all the devices do in fact work, it's just a little bothersome to me, and the fact that i can't safely remove anything from the hub without having to eject the entire hub. Here's a screen shot that shows what the hub shows as: http://i34. Tinypic.com/34fxmp4.png

Usb Flash Drive - Usb Device Is Not Recognized

I have tried 4 different usb flash drives from different manufacturers and my usb hard drive from western digital. Windows 7 recognizes it until i start transferring files. Then it can't find the drive. When i unplug it and plug it back in, i get a notification that the usb device is not recognized. After i restart the computer, it does the same thing all over again. I ran vista before windows 7 and never had this problem. I am very frustrated. I must have access to my flash & external drives or windows 7 is useless to me.

Mtp Usb Device

I have recently tried to connect my canon 50d digital camera to my windows 7 professional 64bit machine, but for it just can't recognize the camera. I've looked at my devices and printers folder and found the camera simply labeled as "canon digital camera", and it is missing a driver. I dug deeper and found that while installing the driver windows had encountered a strange problem of "system cannot find the file specified" for the mtp usb device.

It appears that the mtp driver seems to be missing on my computer! Anyone have a way to solve this problem? I've seen some of the other threads talking about getting the mtp kits, and i have tried that with no avail.

I also suspect it might be a registry error, but i do not have the expertise to locate the right registry key or know how i'd go about fixing this issue. Much thanks for anyone willing to input on this issue!

Usb Device Not Recognized

I just purchased a toshiba notebook satellite l500. It has stickers shown windows 7 on the notebook but i can't find the windows cd in the packaging. I have alot of problems with this notebook till i can't do my homework and run basic tasks.

Problem 1) the system always prompt 'setting up for 1st time use' in every time i switch on the notebook. Then all the setting in internet explorer are reset and not reflecting what i changed to.

Problem 2) when i plug in my imation apollo 2. 5" portable hdd (25 phdd-500gb), the windows shown 'usb device not recognized'. I tried using ms fix tool but still doesn't work.

Problem 3) i added a password into my account which is also administrator account. The same password works when pc starting up but it doesn't work when i tried to switch pc back from sleeping mode with the same password. It shown me 'account being disabled'. I see no option in the control panel for me to activate this account again.

Problem 4) whenever i switch on my notebook, the screen shown 'system preparation tool 3. 14'. What is this for and is it recommended to have this? If not, pls advice how to switch this off at windows 7. I found some procedure to switch off at windows vista but not 7. Apologize for i can't differential between toshiba's problem or window's problem. All i know, i have some frustration to get things done with this new notebook and windows 7.

This error occurs when i try to install my canon rebel, nikon cool pix cameras and my ipod w/camera. I have done much research and see it's a common problem. I use windows 7 and need to use my camera now! I've paid a lot of people to help and no one can find the answer. I know i'm not alone. I've tried all usb ports. I've tried uninstalling devices. I get a mtp device w/yellow caution sign in universal serial bus drivers.

Usb Printer Device Not Recognised

I have a canon mp810 multifunction printer. It is a usb printer. It has worked fine on my old dell desktop pc. And my dell 1525 notebook can also talk to it via a wifi network and print (most of the time). But when i plug the printer directly into the notebook, i get an error "usb device not recognized". I have tried installing new win 7 versions of the drivers from canon but nothing seems to work. Oh yes i can add the printer to the device list, but it is not recognized properly and ultimately won't print.

And as a control measure, i borrowed another dell notebook (slightly older model) and just plugged the printer cable into the usb port and that notebook proceeded to access windows update and download the drivers and all was fine within about 10 minutes. Something is wrong with my notebook. And the problem is specific to this printer because i can plug in other devices to the usb ports and they work fine. The only other printer devices are onenote and xps and fax.

Usb Device Not Recognized In Win 7

So it seems ms has a problem with " usb device not recognized in windows 7 ". A google search will find no real solutions to the problem. I haven't found one hear ether. How can i have a handful of flash drives and external hard drives that will not work on only 2 win7 systems that i know of , yet work on others ? I never needed to download drivers from anyone to make them work on any other os . I just plug them in and the work . The 1st time. Not after trying all things that don't. This is something that needs a real fix. I should not have to pay tech support to find out why. This is clearly an os win7 problem.

No Recording With Usb Audio Device

I choose to play the audio output of my pc via a hi-end usb dac rather than the scabby wee green hole. But as soon as i connect it (or any external usb sound-card) all internal audio input to the stereo mix disappears. Stereo mix remains the only and active device in the sound 'record' tab (other than microphone) with or without the dac connected but any signal showing activity on the bar meter when not connected disappears when connected.

As all recording software, including the basic windows recorder, still see only the stereo mix recording source option then no recording is possible whilst monitoring via the dac. I have to disconnect it and monitor any recording from said green hole. Then, once recorded, swop back again.

As i make music, entirely pc based, then i require as good and true a monitoring system as possible, thus the dac, but it's a bit of a nonsense that having got my mix just so via the dac, i then have to disconnect the thing just so's i can record it down onto two tracks of audacity or the like. And then connect it back to listen to the final result. Am i doing something wrong/missing the point somewhere please?
