Multiboot With Dynamic Disk

I have a laptop (only space for one disk) with a new disk installed. Due to the number of partitions it has been converted to dynamic disk under windows 7. Will this support the installation of a second edition of windows 7 in its own partition or does the fact that it is a dynamic disk preclude such an option? If it will work am i right in thinking that dynamic disks will not support a linux partition due to the incompatibility with gpt

Using Mirror Volume Of A Basic Disk Without Converting It To Dynamic

How to use mirror volume of a basic disk without converting it to dynamic disk? I have two 500gb hard drive attached to my pc running windows 7. I want the software drive (d:) [in the primary hard disk] should be backed up automatically on the other hard drive. I learned a lot from the internet about mirror volume in dynamic disks. In that case i need to convert both hard disks to dynamic disk.

My question is, is there any other way to make a mirror disk of the drive to the secondary hard disk without converting the primary hard drive to dynamic disk? [I have no problem to convert the second hard disk to dynamic disk, but i don't want the first hard drive to be converted to dynamic. ] If it is not possible via windows, is there any 3rd party software to do seamless backup of a drive to different disk without any dynamic disk conversion ?

How To Use Bing Dynamic Rss Theme?

Windows 7 theme problem - bing dynamic (rss theme)i have used many of the new windows 7 themes without problems, but i can't get the rss theme called bing dynamic to work. When i download it and open it, all that's in the theme is the empty theme (no images), so it leaves my desktop black. I thought it might start working after waiting a minute for it to download an image, but it's been over 30 minutes and still no image. It doesn't have the rss symbol on the theme in my list like it does on my friend's computer (where it does work), but for the picture album, it has the right location: a web address for a theme server. How do i get it to work?

Remove Vista From Win 7 Multiboot

On loading windows 7 on upgrade from vista i was given the option of keeping vista. I did this and loaded new windows 7 (home premium 64 bit) to a second internal drive. After the upgrade windows 7 resided on the newly made (by w7) c:/ drive. The old vista system was kept on the newly named d:/ hard drive.

I no longer require the old vista system option presented at bootup. I only want w7 to remain.

How do i remove vista from the multiboot option and delete all the system files on d:/?

Upgrade From Vista To 7 On Multiboot System

I have a multi-boot system installed on an acer desktop computer. Vista home premium is on one partition of the same disk as windows 7 home premium. The vista was a pre-installed system and i clean installed the windows 7 from a retail full version. Evertything worked fine. I tried to upgrade the vista system from a retail upgrade version of windows 7. It nearly got to the end of the upgrade but then said that it could not update and reverted back to the original vista system. Am i trying to do something that is not possible?  Can anybody help please?

Uninstall Win 7 On A Multiboot System

I appear to have two copies of w7 on my computer. I re-installed it as instructed when i was getting a message that my copy was counterfeit. The new w7 i have installed has no programs on my desktop. The old version has my programs and since i got it activated, i have been using it. I get there by booting up and tapping f8, then selecting the w7 program i have. Can i safely delete the new w7 that i installed? I don't use it now that i found how to access the old version.

Can't Get Rid Of Multiboot Option At Boot

Can't get rid of multiboot option. Had installed win. Server 2003 on virtual pc then removed it, but multiboot is still there. I only want windows 7. The option for windows server is not even showing up in bcedit. It looks like there is only one choice. I even tried easybcd and it said there was only 1 entry and it is windows 7. Yet when i restart my machine it always presents a multiboot option with windows server being the top option. I have to click on windows 7 or it will try to boot into windows server (which is no longer present) and then waits for me to insert the installation disk to complete installation.

I don't want windows server anymore. It is not present in the control panel remove a program either. I don't know why it keeps trying to boot into it. Any ideas? Please use small words, i'm not that knowledgeable about the innards of windows.

Dynamic Pen Feedback In Win 7 - Tablet Pc Input Service

There is a wonderful video on the web explaining how to disable this annoying feature, but it only works in higher versions of windows 7 due to lack of expedite. Msc. Here is the video. http://vimeo.com/8567716

Using only the "services" part of this fix does not help.completely disabling it made the feedback disappear only until i put my computer to sleep. After the feedback returned, i re-enabled, then disabled "tablet pc input service". Now i can't even get it to work for a second. Also, geek squad didn't know. The sooner the reply the better i use my tablet for my job and trying to draw with that splash is impossible

Ordinal 120 Could Not Be Located In The Dynamic Link Library Iertutil.dll

"the ordinal 120 could not be located in the dynamic link library iertutil.dll", ie and many other programs won't start! Os: win7 home prem. X64 running as administrator, only user on machine. I installed a game recently and tried to run it and received this error, which causes it to crash each time. Doing the research, i found that this .dll pertains to ie8. Why a third-party game would utilize an ie8 .dll is beyond me.

I did a search for this and the answers all pointed to "uninstall and reinstall". Since i have win 7, there is no way to remove it completely or re-download the software again, so i went through add or remove programs > "turn windows features on or off" to uncheck/uninstall it, reboot, then check/reinstall it. I still get the error.

Other programs - ones i didn't think had anything to do with "iertutil.dll" - are now being affected by this as well, producing the exact same error. I ran revo uninstaller to uninstall the game and clean out any remaining files or registry items for it, but still get the error with some other applications, and ie still won't start.

One suggestion pointed to downloading the .dll from a third party website, but i could not find the correct version (8. 0. 7600. 16385), so i did not do this. Another post about a similar issue had a response instructing to do an sfc scan. I did.correction: sfc found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. I have the log if needed.

Whatever happened to this .dll also has affected my ie8. When i click to open it, nothing happens. It doesn't open in the background and hang - task manager shows no "iexplorer.exe" anywhere. It just does nothing.system restore is not an option. I would really appreciate it if somebody could actually provide me with a good answer. I have not had a single good experience with these msa forums at all for any of my problems.

Moving Data From 1st Disk To 2nd Disk

I installed my w7 on a single disk pc then i added a second disk for data. I want to have all my data (documents, photos, music, etc. ) In this second disk. In xp, when i did so, i copy my documents from "documents and settings" folder to the new location (d:/) and i was done. Now in w7 i open the "user" folder i found that files are not on a single folder but that there are several document folders (images, documents, etc. ) And settings folders (favorites, etc. ). May i copy all the user folder to the new location or i must leave there some of them in c:/system/users? In xp, when i move my documents to d:, every thing was redirected there (default1 saving folder, default download folder, defautl music folder, etc. ) In w7, would happen the same? The link on the desktop will redirect me to the location or may continue pointing the old one.

Disk Read Error And Recovery Disk Not Working

I have a toshiba satellite c650 that has recently come up with a disk read error. I want to access the command prompt to try some potential solutions that i have read about on the internet. I have made a windows 7 recovery disk using my other acer laptop which also has windows 7 installed. When i use the recovery disk and it has loaded the files etc it just brings up a black screen and the cursor. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? I tried booting my acer laptop from the recovery disk and it worked fine. Also does anyone have any suggestions as to why i am getting the 'disk read error - hit ctrl, alt and delete to restart' message?

Trying To Multiboot Vista 64-bit And 7 64-bit

I have pre-installed vista 64 bit, and want to multiboot win 7 64 bit on 2 different hard drives. I get it installed re-boot to system selection, but there is an error message: windows system 32 winload .exe

It won't let me load win 7 only vista. I re-installed 7 with vista drive unplugged with same result. 7 is ultimate 32 and 64 bit version. Same with vista from hp. Do i have a way to do multi-boot on 2 different drives or do i need to re-partition  the vista drive to get it to work. And why does 7 setup ask me if i have x84 or x64 bit. I think it should say x32 bit or x64 bit.

Error - Logonui Exe No Disk - Outlook Exe No Disk

I have windows 7 professional running 64 bit. A very annoying error pops up every five minutes or so. The message varies and can read "logonui exe no disk" or "outlook exe no disk" or "your favorite app. - No disk" depending on what i am running at the time. I have looked at many forums and can see that this error occurred in previous windows flavors. Some answers point to malware or infected file, others seem to think it's a corrupt install file. I have a fresh install of win 7. My previous os being xp.

I have reinstalled win7 and tried repair functions. No luck so far.

Not Enough Disk Space

I installed windows 7 on my dell pc. The os is in d: drive. When i run windows easy transfer to retrieve my old files i get an error saying there is not enough disk space. Yet i have 198 gb free, it's supposed to take only about 116 gb. Now according to the easy transfer program it also wants to transfer some information to drive c:, though i didn't run the transfer program on drive c:, only on drive d: dell uses the c: drive with a only a small partition for some diagnostic programs. According to the transfer program, it wants to transfer about 83 megabytes of data, and theres only about 11 mb of free space left.

Am i going to have to get a partition program to make it a larger partition, or what? Also, when i run the transfer program and go to advanced options where it shows the drive mappings, it shows the drive mappings as c: -> c:, d: -> d:, and maxtor (where i had the easy transfer program store my files -> maxtor. I assume i need to change the maxtor to maxtor -> d:, is this correct?

Recovery Disk Gone

In the course of trying to resolve a problem with a "low disk space" error message that i have been getting i apparently my entire recovery drive (d:), about 8g.

I went to the "my computer" icon and right clicked and selected "manage", found the "disk management" section, selected my "hp-recovery (d:)", right clicked "format", changed from "fat32" to "ftns". The drive formatted and showed up empty. Then the directions i was following told me to right click on the new formatted drive and click "delete volume". It then talked about following some other steps about renaming the drive but mine has completely vanished.

So in conclusion, i'm an idiot. I deleted a recovery drive and didn't even fix the problem i set out to fix. Please if anyone can help i would be very grateful.

I am getting this error code any time i turn on my hp photosmart, and also when i close the tray on my cddvd burner. I am running an acer aspire 5920. I did a clean install of windows 7 over my vista home premium. I'm pretty sure that i still am considered a novice user, comparatively speaking.

No Disk In The Drive Message

I use quickbooks and backup to their server. I can do so just fine with no problem until i insert a memory stick into the usb drive. The next time i try to backup to quickbooks server i get the message, there is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drivedeviceharddisk2dr2. I hit return several times and then the backup will begin.

I'm not even trying to back up onto the memory stick. If i reboot the computer then i don't get the message until the next time i insert a memory stick. Any suggestions? I have called quickbooks and they don't help because after i reboot i am successful so they say it is a computer issue. I called zt systems tech support and they are no help.

Installing New Disk Drive

My problem is more involved than the title suggests. Let me explain.

When i upgraded from vista to windows 7 i attempted a files in place upgrade. That upgrade failed and got itself into a continuous loop attempting to back out of the upgrade. I have two drives, the main boot drive and a second 1 terabyte drive. I should have just reloaded windows clean on the main boot drive, but i didn't. I loaded windows on my terabyte drive, hoping that i would be able to save my data on the boot drive, which i was never able to do. I have been running fine that way, but. Now i want to replace that boot drive with a new larger drive. My question is:

Where is the registry stored. Is it on my boot drive or is it on my terabyte drive that i loaded windows onto. If i remove my old boot drive and install a new drive, will i still have a usable system.

My old drive boots now as drive d:. My terabyte drive boots as c:. It is actually configured as a dual boot system now, but i never boot up the old system because it is still in the infinite loop trying to back out of the upgrade.

Disk And Memory Management

The computer is emachines t3612. Recently upgraded to windows 7 (32). Deleted the recovery drive (d:) as it was representative of the original windows vista home basic that was upgraded to vista home premium. Tried to be a "whiz" and use the memory on c: - i failed and a friend suggested moving the memory to the user file. I did. When the cd/dvd drive did not respond as d: i changed it back to e: but it still will not work (except for a music cd. Is there anyone out there that can help me straighten this mess out?

The cd/dvdw driver is tsstcorpcd/dvdw ts-h652d ata device. I contacted emachines who will not assist because the machine is out of warranty (unless i pay them a small fortune) and tsst doesn't appear to have this model driver any longer, but someone asserted it is the same as samsung sh-5182d that i am to fearful to try. I have considered returning to the upgrade disc to do a clean installation, but it took so long to get the programs and the computer to a really good working state that i do not want to start from scratch again.

I need specific instructions on how (or if) i can move all the available memory to c: and make d: the cd/dvdw drive.

Win 7 Boot Disk

I will be getting an acer laptop next week with windows 7 home premium 64-bit pre-installed on it. I know that acer does not provide disks with their computers for the programs. I want to be able to boot my windows 7 from a disk should it become needed.

How do i create or get a boot disk for windows 7 once i have recieved my computer?

On another note i have been reading several answered questions to find the answer and have come across discussions about creating back up images of the drive. I planned on doing this right out of the box and have been researching programs for this purpose. They didn't mention a program. Does windows 7 let me do this without another program or are they just not saying that they are using another program?

Cannot Run Check Disk

I can't check my system partition. I can't run some  windows functions: calculator, paint, screen saver, maybe it's can't find the file to run (it's icon become gray, screen saver: can't find rundll32.exe). But it's still in my hard disk and can run if i find it out and click. I also can't run firewall because it's dependence services can't start.

So i think partition is error and checked it. On windows, not successful to run "chkdsk" with command prompt. And after restart it's can't check with the note about need to install some software to check. I've just uninstall some soft wares, include "microsoft visual c+ 2005 redistribution" (there are microsoft visual c+ 2005, 2008. I think it isn't important).

Check Disk Problems

Bought my hp dv7 in nov & have had 3 computer crashes. I reboot and get a screen that says 'need to do disk check on c & type of file is ntfs'. Starts countdown & freezes. Have had it back where i bought it and all they can do is a complete sys restore. This weekend i got a message center msg saying that a sys scan/sys maint was scheduled so i clicked on it. Got msg: attempt repairs of disk volume errors. Reboot to repair problems such as bad sectors etc. Clicked next & got "issues found disk volume errors detected & a pop-up asking if i wanted to do sys restore.

Said yes & it said i couldn't because local c had errors & windows detected file sys corruption on c so had to do check disk. I scheduled a check disk & when i rebooted it actually did the count down & it actually completed the whole process & found no issues. Has rebooted without incident so far. In doing some research today i learned this is a windows 7 issue. I'm not computer literate so am afraid to do any of the suggested things without knowing which i should try.

One suggestion said it might prompt to insert the win 7 disk but i don't have a disk as the laptop came pre-loaded. All i have are the sys recovery disks i was prompted to create on the first boot up.

Read Disk Error

I was wondering if you'd be kind enough to help me? I followed this tutorial after creating a duel boot with windows xp http://blogs. Techrepublic.com.com/window-on-windows/?P=1751 and for some reason i get the read disk error. No matter what i try, nothing seems to work following all the bcd commands, fixmbr and fixboot.

All i want to do is delete my xp partition and start using 7 to it's full on the hdd. I'm sure it's something really simple, but i can't for the life of me figure it out?

Windows Cannot Be Installed To This Disk

"windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's bios menu. ". I encountered this error after somehow magically overcoming the cd/dvd drive device driver error that's killing like half of the microsoft windows community, i swear. I'm trying to install win7 onto a 80gb hdd, after using the raid tool featured on my sata controller to format it to clear the way for this install.
Thoughts? Ideas?

Disk Read Error

Well i started a couple of days ago at first when i booted up my computer it came up saying something was preventing it from starting and it could be caused by a hardware change or installed software and it asked me to put in the repair disc. So i did this it managed to fix it for a while then randomly it started again so i repeated what i did last time with out any success so i switched off the computer and tried again same kept happening for about 5 restarts so i gave up and left it. Then the next it works again but when i restart my computer to make sure i get this disk read error with it saying ctrl-alt-dlt to restart so i did this and over and over again it kept coming up.

But then i got the error that i mentioned at the start and so i repeated the process no success but then randomly it works again. This problem keeps on occurring randomly and going away randomly and it is unbelievably annoying as some times it can take minutes to fix sometimes hours. So is there any fix to this problem or is a reinstall of windows 7 the only option.

No Disk Error Message

Both my wife and i are experiencing problems with "no disk" error messages on our windows 7 machines (windows 7 professional). Her error message displays on start up. Mine just pops up randomly. Here's the message she gets:

Userinit.exe - no disk
Winlogon.exe - there is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drivedeviceharddiskdr7

We can get rid of the message after clicking the "cancel" button about 11 times.

Here's the message i get:

Outlook.exe - no disk
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drivedeviceharddiskdr7

So far, i can close the error message window by clicking the "continue" button. She's been getting the error for a couple of weeks now. I started getting the error yesterday. I've run system and malware scans on both machines, using malwarebytes and microsoft security essentials. Both machines seem to be clean. The messages don't seem to be causing any harm, but are annoying. Any ideas on how we can eliminate them?

Lost Disk Space

So i was trying to help my friend delete his old windows 7 beta partition on his new copy of win 7. So far, using disk management, he has formatted it, defragged it with the built in windows defragger, and deleted the partition. At that point it still wouldn't let him extend his main drive to include this newly free space. So he right clicked the free space and deleted it. Instead of changing it too unallocated space like it expected it to, it just vanished completely! And now thanks to me, my friend is missing some 80gb.

Then, for some reason it separated 112gb of "free space" from his new install. So i extended the drive and put the 112 gb back into his new install. And now i'm stuck.
